  1. Mannnn Episode 7 of this drama slayyyyyed me! I haven't felt the rush of romance addiction with this year's dramas...but I think I did a bit when watching this episode. I love both Chae Jong Hyeop and Park Eun Bin. They both have such beautiful smiles and they're both super cute together And I'm glad that they're giving Ki Ho such a grand moment. I also felt like this episode had good momentum and pacing. Like there's movements on all fronts from Mok Ha achiving her dreams, to Ran Joo learning to let go and faciing her fears of betryals, to Ki Ho revealing his identity and the father nearing his chase. Also there's a bit more revelation with the family secret and the lake. And I'm glad there was no weird editing - I still can't quite understand why Wigen was narrating as future Ran Joo? But I wonder if you feel this way @Tofu...But I kinda wish they'd fix Chae Jong Hyeop's hair!!! It's kinda fizzy at the moment and not his usual look - I just want to straighten it
  2. Hahaha I actually didn't feel trolled by Start Up because I knew Nam Joo Hyuk was lead and I didn't find Nam Do San to be unbelivable as a love interest since Han Ji Pyeong never openly outed himself to female lead till it was far too late I agree the stronger bet is on Bo Geol as Ki Ho - I do think it's more logical. I feel like one explaination of the last episode could be Woo Hak's memory of Ki Ho's dad is because he was attacked seeing as the dad thought he was Ki Ho which resulted in the accident making Woo Hak forget his memories. Because of that, Bo Geol is hesitant to ever reveal his identity in case in would put someone else, namely Mok Ha, in danger. Hahaha how could you accuse us of entertaining SLS @mademoiselle when you know how much both @Tofu and I love Chae Jong Hyeop But also, I think this year I've become a changed woman. Haven't had SLS in soooo long I loved the ML in every show I've watched, old and new dramas: Heartbeat , Bloodhounds, Destined with You, Taxi Driver s2, My Mister, Where Stars Land, Strong Woman Nam Soon (I guess I'm kind of cheating because I already love Lee Je Hoon who is in 2 of those dramas and a few of the other dramas have bad guys for second leads...but still! I think I've been very good this year )
  3. I love how that actress ill forever be known to everyone as 'Wigen' from Uncanny Counter I was also really confused and thought it was RJ reflecting on the past (really confusing to have a flash forward scene). But I guess if she has a character name then she must be a new storyline that's not yet unfolded. I just wish that they would have edited her itroduction into the drama in a less confusng way
  4. HAHAHA oh noooooooo. When I was watching the first and second episode, I totally thought this reminded me of Start Up because of the whole first episode being related to a tragic back story. And then the whole Chae Jong Hyeop not getting enough air time....Ughhhh...what if Woo Hak IS Ki Ho, but Seo Mok Ha will end up falling for Bo Geol because he protects her and Yoon Ran Joo now in her adult life....ughhhhhh.....but surely, as a writer, she won't want to copy the storyline for Start Up twice will she?! But who knows? Maybe she really loves this sort of torturous storyline This series involves a full suspension of disbelief If you've ever watched the Tom Hank's Castaway movie, maybe she got her supplies when a FedEx plane crashed I still feel deprived at episode 4. I hope he's cenntral to next week's episodes now that he's rescued Se Mok Ha These are all good points though. I think Bo Geol presents more like Ki Ho in terms of behaviour, while Woo Hak just looks aesthetically more like him. The other thing I think is interesting is that Ki Ho already had video editing skills etc which is on the way to being a producer/ working in TV and music (Bo Geol's job) But there's always a chance this could be one of those dramas where the truth is obivious, but we complicate it because we want things to play out a certain way. Like in Twenty Five Twenty One , I think it was pretty obvious from the start that the main character had moved on. But we all wanted the main characters to be together so we looked for the evidence. In this drama, it'll be hard to accept if Mok Ha falls for Bo Geol, but it turns out Woo Hak is Ki Ho and he's still there. Ouch. It depends on how bittersweet the writer wants to make things This is the truth. I mean if CJH is first lead, then he gets the girl as the law of being first lead dictates I really feel sorry for Yoon Ran Joo. She seems like a person who's been tricked and gaslit about her talents. Her agent pretty much stole everything from her and continues to treat her like she's the crazy one Hahaha This is also a valid posibility. Then the writer is probably laughing at every fan theory she comes across
  5. Hello all! It's meeee. I am watching this series because I lovvvvveeeee Park Eun Bin and Chae Jong Hyeop, so I'm in for this one for sure. So far, I don't know if I love the drama yet...maybe it's this year coz I haven't been obsessively in love with any drama so far. I liked the first episode with the kids and I love the mystery surrounding who is Ki Ho because we all know that dramas with a good mystery hook us in. But I also think the mystery might also be why I feel a bit weird about this drama in that it's a little hard to tell the character's relationships because they you to be confused. I find the brother's relationship to be so weird. Do they get along? And what's with Woo Hak copying Bo Geol all the time? Haha, that would drive me crazy. Also I feel like Chae Jong Hyeop is not getting enough air time for my liking...I mean, if he turns out not to be Ki Ho then I feel like this is one of those Kdramas where the Second Lead position will have been stronger than the first lead *cough Start Up cough* Haha, I think BG is probably Ki Ho, but it's hard to tell at the moment. WH is meant to be the same age, but he doesn't remember the past except he has seen Ki Ho's dad before. BG is meant to be younger and he's very strongly opposed to WH identifying as Ki Ho. It's a 50-50 chance with my theories being the following for each scenario: 1) BG is Ki Ho changed his look (ie. no glasses) to hide from his dad. WH doesn't remember his parent's adopting BG because he happened during the time of his accident. Accident may have been caused by WH enoucntering BG/ Ki Ho's dad which is why WH remember's Ki Ho's dad in a traumatic way. 2) WH is Ki Ho and was adopted by this family but doesn't remember due to the accident. Ki Ho's dad came to find him one time and endangered WH which is why BG is protective of WH and doesn't want him to find out in case it causes him to suffer. 3) I guess both of them could turn out NOT to be Ki Ho. But then does Bo Geol know the real Ki Ho? Anyway, I hope episode is 4 onwards is the start of more screen time for Chae Jong Hyeop
  6. Hahahaha nooooo!!!! I can't believe you're into the bad guy But also I did laugh last episode because the bad guy was clearly into her and spilling his traumatic childhood to her while Kang Hee Sik was getting jealous watching tthrough the spy cam. BUT I wonder if the bad guy just wants to date her because combined they would have a mega strong child The romance definitely isn't super strong in this drama compared to original series, but I think the main 2 are playful and silly and cute. I really liked the ramyeon 'peck' kiss
  7. BUT from memory the webtoon is pretty cute and I love dogs....so not all hope is lost? I'll see how much time I have.
  8. Hahaha I like Cha Eun Woo, but I can't watch things when I'm not a fan of the female lead...Hahaha I don't know what she did to offend me btw...I've just never been keen on her projects
  9. Hahaha you've warmed up to him too! Hmmm, I think he's not your usual type, but I feel like you also often wonder outside of your usual type so I'm also not surprised. You have a very eclectic selection of Oppas His character is rather sweet here and not overdone I feel. I don'r know if I buy his silly/ extra moments (like dancing in hs apartment in his underwear) as much as I bought Park Hyung Sik's extra moments though. I felt like PHS was more natural being extra whereas OSW is more natural being sincere and straightforward as you said. Yes, I think more than OSW not being your type...I'm more surprised you're watching this drama! I feel like this drama is not your drama type since I know you love the hard-to-get, non existent pairings and maybe the less cutesy/comical type dramas (which is a type I like). He is already pretty into her though he doesn't seem to know it., so you might drop this soon. But I'm still glad you gave this a shot and think the main pair is cute Hahaha it's that cursed drama! I couldn't watch that series. I think I watched 2 episodes? And my blood was boiling. I just remember thinking, "How can everyone like it?!" But I see no one liked it in the end Like I'm a fairly indescisive person...but stringing people along is not ok Nah, I like this drama as it, but my favourite part was still the the Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Sik cameo for sure! Haha, I think the sentiment in the drama is that evil is stuff that really harms other people rather than petty revenge. I guess the money-making also doesn't harm people since the family seem to use their wealth to help the broader community (ie. track down drug lords and such). Haha, I agree. I'm hoping OSW's character is a bit more involved in the storyline. Though I also like the female cast and the storyline involving 3 generations of strong women mothers and daughters as well Yep, I was happy there was no drag with the fake daughter storyline. I suppose at first the mother was desperate to find her daughter and fill that hole in her life. Then later on, even when she knew, she felt sorry for that girl and tried to live by her rule of not treating others badly in case it hindered her daughter's karma. One thing I laugh at is how blantently she promotes Korean capitalism. It's pretty funny, but I think a fun way of looking at class and whether money buys happiness since Nam Soon has obviously been happy all her life even without money and luxury.
  10. @Tofu I'll be here for Chae Jong Hyeop and Park Eun Bin. It's like a dream pair for me. And also I love Chae Jong Hyeop and know you do too
  11. Hello all! I'm here for this series! Glad you're watching this and enjoying thie seris too @ktcjdrama I have to say there's something really fun and cute about the Strong Girl series. Like it's prior series, the storyline and romance is cute and I'm really enjoying it. Nam Soon's strength is so far fetched that it's funny and silly, but all the characters have heart and the humour works for me. Also I already liked Lee Yoo Mi from all her other projects coz she keeps picking dramas I would definitely watch and she's shown her versatility in them by being the cool girl (Squid Game) and then mean girl (All of Us Are Dead). But now she's playing a cute character and I think she's so adorable So my early opinion is that the romance was stronger in the older series, but the storyline set up is better in the newer series. I mean things could change, but it's hard to beat that strong Min Min and Bong Bong chemistry. But I think the storyline is moving much better in this series so far. Less draggy and the characters all have really fun personalities. Haha, do you not like Ong Seung Wu too @SilverMoonTea??? I have to admit I've started to warm up to Ong Seong Wu. I think I didn't like him much for a long time because he looks a bit like a guy who was a big player with lots of girlfriends at my uni but also I dont usually find that kind of look to be for me. With that said, during the Korean film festival, I watched a film called Life is Beautiful and he played the main character's first love and I thought he was kind of cute in that (Also the story line with his character made me laugh when you find out the truth). And I love that his character is so obviously soft for Nam Soon and is attracted by a strong woman ALSO LOVED LOVED LOVED the cameo with Park Bo Young and Park Hyung Sik. I nearly died when I saw the photos pop up on PHS's Instagram!!! Even though it was a cameo, I felt like they really revived their characters and chemistry!!! How is it they were so belivable as a married couple in only like 15 mins?! Why are they so cute???? I love them both so much. Was happy they gave them ample screen time and explained how she was related to the main characters. Thanks for sharing all the pics and videos here @mademoiselle
  12. Hello @mademoiselle and everyone else! I did finish this drama! I've just been so busy at work lately so my default has been to watch dramas and then pass out afterwards. And my on-going arm issue means I haven't typed as much as usual....Anyway I found Rowoon so pretty to watch in this series. But I don't know if the actual drama was for me in terms of the storyline. I will admit I kind of got bored in the later episodes when it got really fluffy but I didn't feel like there was much story to tell. It felt like they were trying to cram too many genres in - it went from comedy to melo to thriller to very mushy romance. But it might just be this year - I haven't really found any dramas, particularly romances, this year that have had me obsessing about them. I pretty much watched just for Rowoon being pretty and talented and pulling off the comic relief I have a like-dislike feeling towards the way magic was presented in this drama. I liked that they showed it as being an unknown in that you were not sure if it really was a spell or not that caused the main character to experience what they were experiencing. I feel like often in dramas they make the magic very clear. But I liked this new idea because that's what we experience - you know, whenever people pray or go to see a psychic or something...we never really know if the supernatural stuff is real or something we just believe in and is a placebo to explain or validate our own feelings or wishes. But the flip side to everything being explained by the doctors as part of his illness and hallucinating was that it felt anti-climatic? And then it felt like it didn't sit well with the past life storyline...because if she was a sharman in her past life and the magic seemed to work then, why was it so inconsistent in the future? And also, how did both of them come to suddenly see into their past lives without a logical tie to the past (ie. magic)? It's like all of a sudden she saw and understood all the things that had happened to them both...Felt messy in terms of storytelling? I wasn't a big fan of any of the side characters so fully agree with @gilaswan on the following: I think when I love a drama, I often have to like a lot of the side characters as well or at least find their humour to sit with mine, but in this drama I didn't really like anyone except for Rowoon/ Jang Sin Yu I thought I'd end up at least lliking the female lead and I liked her during episode 4-6-ish, but then I felt indifferent to her story and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because she needed a lot of rescuing. I would have liked to have seen her as being less helpless and more able to deal with the stalke. I really didn't like the Gong-Ma relationship either. It didn't feel funny, or progress the story or help us to understand the main couple. But there was that on line that the co-worker said which made me laugh during the proposal and that was when she said" "It's not the dreaded public proposal that women hate so much, is it?" And that made me laugh because it's so true. I think I'd die from embarrassment if someone did that to me (and they were meant to know me the best!) Speaking of the co-workers, I still didn't warm up to them in the end either...sure, they were no longer bullies and were technically her friends. But I feel like they never apologised for being mean to her. They also just seemed to use her to get to guys...and they were soooo cringe. Agan, I'm sure they were meant to be comic reflief, but I felt so embarrassed and annoyed watching them haha. Na Yeon's storyline also felt over the top to me. I think it felt too old school - bully girl who is also cheating with a bad dude while she still wants the main guy and hires the psyho to deal with the main girl? This is like a storyline out of an early 2000's drama I didn't like her character, but I felt like they could have spent less time on her than give her so much to do in the drama Anyway, I hope I don't sound too negative - I did enjoy watching Rowoon''s perfomance. It was the first time I was clearly there for Rowoon as a main lead and not for hhis second lead He was equal parts handsome and also very belivably funny. I felt like he carried the drama. I just wish the storyline and genre was a bit better though. I also wanted to point out that he did a number of very grown up scenes @mademoiselle that were not his usual monk-like scenes. Your boy is a man now
  13. Hello friends! I'm popping in once again after like a million weeks or so to check in. How is everyone? I know this is an Oppa thread but it turns out the first Korean fan meet I'll ever go to is for an Unnie I'll be seeing Kim Sejeong when she comes down to Melbourne I thought it was pretty good of her to goo to Kuala Lumpur, Melbourne and Sydney, so had to support especially since I did enjoy Business Proposal and The Uncanny Counter. But I do wish some of my favourite actors would pop down (though admittedly KSJ is down here for a concert since she's technnically a Kpop star...I just never seem to get into the Kpop idols though). When will they bring my Oppas down to Australia?!
  14. Oooh I forgot you also watched and liked Someday or One Day It was nice to see your comments and have someone understand what I meant. I know @Tofu is also a SOOD fan, but I remember her saying she was avoiding this remake because she did not like the casting (Haha, have you decided not to watch at all Tofu? ) I think this is true - I wouldn't be familiar with the late 90's in Korea as much as I would be in Taiwan. With that said, I heard there was some backlash from Korean fans because A Time Called You actually didn't portray the late 90's in Korea very accurately. It went more for aesthetics rather than true nostalgia and fans called out the series for that. I think the Korean fans were more hardcore than the Taiwanese fans about this remake! (But I guess it was in theiir culture) 1. https://www.kdramastars.com/articles/131244/20230913/a-time-called-you-backlash-multiple-inaccuracies-shouldve-done-properly.htm 2. https://www.koimoi.com/korean/a-time-called-you-starring-ahn-hyo-seop-jeon-yeo-been-is-getting-backlash-from-the-audience-for-setting-unrealistic-portrayal-of-korea-viewer-says-seems-like-a-drama-that-only-focuses-on-loo/#:~:text=Korean Entertainment News-,'A Time Called You' Starring Ahn Hyo Seop %26 Jeon,Only Focuses On Looking Pretty” Also some other translated forums, but can't find the links anymore I've enjoyed reading your thoughts @ktcjdrama because your thoughts are very fair and considerate of both storylines and contexts and also because they mirror so many of my thoughts. I haven't finished yet (Just getting to episode 8), but I have started to warm to the storyline a bit more because as you say, it does have it's own charms and funny moments. It is faithful in the retelling in terms of similarity of events and scenes. It's almost scene for scene. But I definitely agree that it''s missiing the heart and soul of the original series. I think even if I was not a big SOOD fan, I would have still been able to point out why one series was more addictive to fans than the other. I also really agree that the Korean series seems to do more telling than showing which is a shame because it seems less realistic (?) when a character says a line that explains a plot line out loud. I think Han Jun Hee says something like "How did I travel through time? I fell asleep with the casette player. Must be the casette" or something really obvious like that which just struck me as odd because in the original the characters didn't know immediately but had to work that out. Anyway, like you, I think the series is watchable and entertaining. But I just don't think it'll be memorable or beloved in the long run. Hahahaha, was this the older versiion of the ML? He was very shaggy
  15. Hahaha I sometimes sense JH friends summoning me! I am watching btw! I'm just so busy with work/ arm injury / social life/ watching 4 dramas/ recording podcasts / trying to keep up on drama news & JH....that I struggle to balance everything But just know that I'm watching and will spazz especially if you tag me (I'll eventually get back to youuuu). I'm definitely still watching and enjoying the series. I caught up llate last week and I actually really like this show from episode 4. Rowoon has been fantastic this whole time but female lead becomes so much Rowoon is killing me in this series. Why is he so hot and simaltaneously so funny? Hahaha he tried hard to stay pretty? I thought it was just his natural way of being He slayed me in Episode 4. I couldn't help but laugh at his cool-guy-but-desperately-cursed-lovelorn antics. I have never been so charmed with Rowoon as I have been in this series! Also I feel guilty for saying this but I STILL haven't watched House on Wheels yet evenn though I LOVE the EY trio. I'm going to schedule in time to watch it tomorrow !!! It is important content and I feel kinda guilty that I haven't kept up with my boy LJW in awhile FL for some reason got better after episode 4. I'm not sure why. Maybe I've just gotten use to her ways. But more likely I think it's because they've stopped making her do as stupid things and given her some more substance. Also they've started to spend more time on other characters like the second leads in order to get the story moving. So I'm finding her A LOT better. I agree with you though - those FL who start out all cool but then turn into a sobbing mess really irritate me. I am LOVING the female boss. I mean I haven't caught up on the last few episodes yet, but up until that point she's been so cool - she sees throguh everyone's bad behaviours and calls them out on it!
  16. Hello all! I'm here watching this as a person who LOVES Someday or One Day so my opinions will probably be a little different. While I wasn't exactly overjoyed when they announced a Korean version, I also wasn''t one of those fans attacking everyone who was looking forward to this and saying the original should not be tainted or anything like that. I knew it would probably be milked for it's popularity, so no point getting upset when there's also going to be a Mainland remake as well. I was also quite curious about what they would do with the story and liked the idea that maybe if people were open to watching the original, then it could bring more people into the Someday or One Day fandom or get people into watching the modern day Taiwanese dramas which have improved a lot....The original series, Someday or One Day, had a pretty crazy following in Korea anyway - I witnessed this when the Taiwanese movie sequel for Someday or One Day was launched in Korea. A huge number of Koreans even started learning Chinese to understand the actors better etc. So I guess if anyone would give a fair evaluation of this remake it would be the Korean fans themselves. I think there's also fans who will enjoy both because even though they loved SOOD, they also love these Korean actors, which is fair enough. Episode 1-2 My thoughts so far is that A Time Called You is ok. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either so far. Would I have loved it more if it wasn't a remake of SOOD? Hard to say. It's a nice enough drama and the actors are doing a good job - obviously they're both talented and have a huge following already, so I expect most people will like the characters as well. I'm not a huge fan of either main actor for the remake, but to be fair, I also wasn't a huge fan of Alice Ke or Greg Hsu before I started watching Someday or One Day either, but I loved their acting and chemistry and the way they portrayed their characters that I became a bigggggg fan of them both from that drama. Maybe it'll happen for this series too? In a funny way, I think this drama might actually catch all the fans who weren't exactly a fan of Someday or One Day. Even though the drama is going through the same central events as SOOD, it does have a very different tone which is not bad per say, but doesn't capture what I (and I suspect a majority of the SOOD fans) truly loved about the original series. But what a lot of fans loved may be what other people didn't (I just glanced at @mademoiselle's comments above and I can already see where we differ, but will reply later in a different comment because this is going to be a long one in itself!). So I think this drama doesn't have to be a carbon copy of the original. And I'm trying to apprciate the project as a drama in it's own rights - there are some scenes I like in this drama which were not in the original which I'll talk about below as well. But I will talk about some overarching changes/ differences with characters and moments that I think are the reasons I was hooked on SOOD from Episode 2, but not so with this series. Again, I don't hate this series - it's a series I'm watching, but I haven't felt compelled and wanting more the way I felt when watching the original. My bias are obviously: I already know how this story unfolds (so maybe not as exciting for me), I already have a strong reference to the original story/ characters/ stories. But I'm also feeling that even if I had no idea what SOOD/ or the original series was like, I still don't think it would be an addictive series for me, though I'd find it enjoyable. Things I liked: I think it's quite pretty - Korean cinematography is nice. The original was quite dreamy and definitelly pretty. But the Korea version has brought it's own aesthetic scenes. I think stuff like the cherry blossom scene when they were having that talk about the hearing aids was nice. I think they've styled Anh Hyo Seop to look mighty fine (Hahaha...the scene with the abs was definitely not in the original!). Sometimes I've been confused about Anh Hyo Seop. But he's looking like very much the dream boyfriend here which is essentially this character's main role hahaha. Certain scenes play out nicely. That scene where Jeon Yeo Been and Anh Hyo Seop talk at the table and she asks why he made her love him when he was just going to leave her alone was great - the lines existed in the original series, but the scene played out differently. A Time Called You also toned down some of the events in the first episode of Someday or One Day that had a bit more of a Taiwanese Slackstick element like when they go look for Huan Yu Xuan's (FL) collegue's missing dog and end up going to a dodgy fortune teller which is how she first sees Li Zi Wei (ML) on the street even though he's apparently dead...in this version she thinks she sees him at a train station which I thought was actig a decent change. Things I don't know if I like/ didn't quite like: With that said, I'm not feeling as moved by this drama and I think it's in part because it's missing that deeply nostalgic element. They have indicated that one time line is 1998, but if I wasn't paying much attention, I wouldn't have really noticed because both time lines look so stylised and modern. But in Someday or One Day, 1998 is super retro and noticeable because it's so daggy. The record store and the shops and their houses are super telling of the times. The characters even dress super daggy and use the slang of that time - even if they hadn't written the year on the screen, I would have known because I could remember doing the same things, wearing the same clothes etc. The drama was also tied together by a song with very moving lyrics and very iconic to those times. I don't know if this drama has introduced their song yet, but I'm not sure if it'll have quite the same feel. In terms of the characters, I'm trying to differente Anh Hyo Seop's Koo Yeon Jun to Greg Hsu's Li Zi Wei. I feel like Koo Yeon Jun is quite reserved compared to the original character - Li Zi Wei is more realistically a teenager boy - And a charismatic and rougish and smart talking guy at that. Like one of those guys who is cheeky to teachers and sometimes puts their foot in it because they speak before they think, who is cool because they don't care about getting in trouble if it means protecting their friends, but well liked because they tease/ joke with everyone in a friendly way, but has a heart of gold, is brave and is deeply loyalty to their quiet friends who they bring out of their shells. So far, they've tried to show this, but Koo Yeon Jun is quite vanilla and much more reserved. He's definitely the heart of gold, loyal friend, but the character isn't as funny or as realistic a teenager as the character in the original. Part of the charm of the original story is how much Li Zi Wei (ML) matures and learns about himself and what love means when he meets the FL (I have avoided giving spoilers as to the context of how he meets the FL), but I agree with a few comments I've read where I don't think this will come out as strong in this series, where he is already more reserved. To a lesser degree, I also feel that about Jeo Yeo Been's Han Jun Hee and Alice's Huang Yu Xuan (the adult version of the FL). I'm not going to say yet because it hasn't gotten past the crucial point yet (can't say more or I'll spoil things) and maybe this will be shown eventually. But so far, it feel liks Han Jun Hee is much more mild when the original Huang Yu Xuan was quite spirited, assertive and charismatic - one of those people who doesn't have to try hard to be liked because they're flexible and carefree. The character that I've had to try my hardest not to compare is the second MLs. I can't help but feel like the second lead in A Time Called You has no personal character yet. In the original, he was reserved, but still tried to bring out the FL who was even more timid than himself. He also had a more convincing friendship - like they would show the 2 leads talking or plotting how to bring the FL on their adventures...in this series so far, I haven't seen ML and second ML lead talk unless ML tells him to talk to the girl (which is true to the original, but they had more conversations and jokes aside from that?). Another reason I feel less moved: they also got rid of a lot of the nice relationship scenes in the original which made you understand the backstory of just how good a relationship the main characters had. Like here, the birthday scene was he gave her flowers and a cake the year before. In the original they show a montage of how he celebrated her birthday each year for several years and he always did very meaningful things, not just give her gifts - he planned a surprise party which her friends and family, he dressed up in a character costume and they had play fights with cake because he brought out her silly side, one year they fought and he still celebrated her birthday, stuff like that etc. So by episode 2, I was also griving a dead boyfriend of several years that I had never had. In A Time Called You I understand logically that he's passed away and he was a good boyfriend, but I don't feel quite so sad because I have less details to go by and less meaningful moments/flashbacks? Feels a little like they show the surface level without as much depth? Anyway, I think a lot of people will have different opinions on the series which is fine, everyone has different tastes and likes different actors/ styles. I'm not trying to convince anyone to like either series more or less - but just exploring both shows, I can see what appealed to me and made SOOD a crack drama to me personally. But this might be a crack drama to someone else, so I'm not judging this drama to others. Just me and other SOOD fans I guess Also plenty of time to see how the drama unfolds. I will laugh if I turn out to really love this drama too a few more episodes in.
  17. @mademoiselle I haven't read through the thread yet coz I'm still 2 episodes behind...But I'm watching and up to episode 3! I can't really tell if I enjoy the storyline yet, but I'll tell you what I do enjoy? Rowoon Damn, I don't know what it is, but he is on fire in this drama. I think it's a combination of: 1. He's in a suit the whole time 2. While I'm not a big fan of the cold CEO type who is mean to the girl at first, I feel like his character is not that old stereotype- he's not really mean, just more deadpan and sarcastic which is fun/funny and I personally really like these charactertistics 3. Rowoon's acting has improved a lot of the years and he's more convincing now He's already adopted, but maybe he'll scale the tiers in my eyes from this drama As for the rest of the drama, I'm unsure of how I feel about it just yet. I'm curious about the curse and back story (especially since I never read a synopsis about this drama), but why is Jang Sin Yu being molested by a bloody red hand?! It's so weird. I do also find the female lead character a bit much so far. Not due to acting, but due to the fact I've never been a fan of the ditzy girl trope. There are times when a character toes the line of ditzy, but I warm to them if they're more fun and bubbly than an airhead. However, if the antics are too silly, then all I want to do is cringe (eg. when she mistaked Jang Sin Yu as a grim reaper and when she decided to do a love potion)..I feel conflicted because I don't hate her, but I find the cringe factor a bit too much and it kinda puts me off. I'm annoyed by her work mates too. But I'll continue to watch because Rowoon is the hottest I've seen him yet (which is important to a drama, right? )
  18. I don't like fan fights - I think it sometimes gets to the point of online harrassment/ bullying which is not ok. But it is funny sometimes when people make claims without having any evidence or pretending they know the celebrity or something wilde like that As for that HB fan, I think it would have been ok if she's just a HB fan without shippiing, but kinda weird that she went from one ship thread to another? Hahahaha I actually laughed out loud when I read this Mmm you make good points. I've totally had people zoom in on the things I've said before even though I aways applying huge caveats to my points of view. I like to analyse things and look at them from both side or talk about possibilities but also remind people to think about this with a grain of salt. Although I don't think it's wise to be delulu, I understand the fun of really liking a pairing and I still like to celebrate my favourite pairings when I'm really into them, so I also do not support 'anti' culture. Yeah and I agree, you never know any of your favourite celebrities in real life so best to never act like you do so you're not in for a bad surprise if any rumour proves true A bit late, but yes, that was 2nd kiss. Now I'm just left being sad about this drama... I need new dramas. What's on at the moment @mademoiselle and @abs-oluteM? What would you recommend? Haha, are you going to try to sell me something @SilverMoonTea?
  19. Sorry in all my house moving times and rage about the Heartbeats ending, I realised that I've forgotten to get back to a whole bunch of messages! Time to get typing... Hahaha I feel like there might be some passer bys who will make some judgements on us, but they don't know us To be honest, we're generally pretty fair and not too delusional. I think even when we fangirl and get excited about our favourites, or are not fans of someone, we're not extremists so I think we're ok. As for internet fights, I don't think I've had too many, though I like to state my opinion and sometimes that can be taken the wrong way by someone because I substantiate my points very strongly when I make them I'm ok if the other person doesn't agree with me. But I'm not ok if the other person starts to make things personal/ gets abusive about me or the things/ people I like just because we have different points of view Hahaha, I did have one with LJW's stan...but then we made up and became Twitter friends I think she just misunderstood something I said but later on appreciated the effort I went through to translate a bunch of LJW's interviews etc. So we're ok now Wow didn't realise that person lived in NZ and not Korea. I wonder if it was more a personal thing like they just didn't get along and that other person just wanted to get revenge that way. My friend was saying someone she knew was hosting 2 Japanese students at their house and the 2 boys had a fight because one was quiet and sennsitive and the other was very talkative and sometimes silly. So they just offended each other because they were not each other's cup of tea. It could have been something like that Hahaha I thought all 3 of the villains from Uncanny Counter looked like Batman villains. Kang Ki Young= Looks kinda like The Penguin/ Joaquin Pheonix's Joker Kim Hyun Wook = Looks like Jared Leto's Joker Kim Hieora = Reminds me of Harley Quin (No specific version...just unhinged and crazy villainess vibes) I feel like the villains are scene stealers in their own rights...but I think the Counters are equally fun and kooky characters especially when they're together. Their cast chemistry and counter chemistry is super silly and warm. As for the villains, I like that they're strong and apply a lot of pressure to the main characters, which allows for fast and exciting pacing. Taecyeon's vampire look was the period era suits and hair style - similar to the latest version AMC's Interview with a vampire . I love that era of style where guys looked so put together. I don't like Taecyeon's normal hairstyle as much as when he has it styled up...he looks so good when it's styled up I didn't mind the original Interview with a vampire or the book version, but I love the new TV series. Lestat is played by an Australian actor, Sam Reid, who is so charming. One of my non Asian Oppas Hahaha I had a hate-love relationship with Twilight. I couldn't stop reading the books (which I guess means it was exciting to me at the time) and I enjoyed the premise of the story about meeting some vampirres in a boring small town, but I found Bella incredibly terrible as a heroine. She seemed to look down on everyone around her except the pretty vampires, but everyone seemed to like her even though she was so judgy. She had not personality and no faults - her only traits seemed to revolve around loiving Edward. Also the storytelling was incredibly badly wriitten and fanfic like. I couldn't believe these anicient vampires were afraid of her. And there was no battle scenes - she'd just conveniently faint or something when a battle took place. Thinking about that book still makes me mad I have to admit haven't actively looked (Just been so busy with woork lately). But I hope to soon! I saw that Jasper posted photos with Alice and the cast so it's definitely been a thing. It warms my heart that my favourites are working together though Hahaha Tea does have a type that she likes, though not everyone she likes is part of the type...But if there's a guy of this type, she will definitely fall for him at least for 5 mins I feel like the type is like effeminate and refined (if you understand Chinese : the 斯文 type) I'm sad that the amusement park date put you off my vampire...it was not the best directing/ editing/ acting on that episode, but still a good pair overall. But I guess it saved you the horrror of watching this drama ending!!! Hahaha I thought HMH was your type because he's very slender, pale, tall, piano-fingered and refined looking I don't know if I have a type either! I know iin real life, there's been some guys that looked like Yoon Park But my Oppa tastes vary - Jasper, Lee Jae Wook, Lee JeHoon, Taecyeon, Greg Hsu are all verrry dfferent. I feel like I like guys that can be equal parts cool and charming, but also very funny and silly. I think that's my type
  20. Ok so I've been a little behind in dramas since I moved houses...BUT I JUST WATCHED THE ENDING FOR HEARTBEAT AND WTF WAS THAT?! Did you end up finishing it @SilverMoonTea?! I think I'm cursed to like doomed pairings I can't even begin to talk about it at the moment. I think I need to make an entire podcast outlining all my issues with this drama, although I liked the main pair a lot. My poor vampire Taecyeon aand my poor In Hae. I can't tell which ending I hated more out of DDSSLLS or this one. This one definitely made more sense, but the pacing was awful. DDSSLLS was wacked at the end, but at least it had a mildly happy ending? Kdrama is meant to relieve me of stress not cause it
  21. Hello friends! Are we turniing 3 already?! I was summoned here by @abs-oluteM via her reply that @SilverMoonTea should mention me in relation to Before We Get Married. I have so many things to say about that love triangle...How is it possible that both the main lead and second lead were both toxic in that drama?!?! I disliked everyone. It wasn't Jasper playing the main lead and Jasper and Puff chemistry I would have been long gone (Sorry Tea, it's like one of your crack dramas! But I liked that it got you to notice my boy Jasper) As for me, I am a very regular sufferer of Second Lead Syndrome. I think it's something to do with the fact that I probably enjoy rooting for the underdog. And maybe because I started watching dramas in the era where they loved to make the main lead toxic, but then the second lead a kind empathetic soul who didn't get the girl due to bad timing or tragic circumstances or grl being oblivious (Think Boys Over Flowers, You're Beautiful etc). So I feel like that pity and wanting to adopt the second lead has lingered throughout my life as a Kdrama watcher. Memorable Kdrama Love Triangles You're Beautiful - I did not watch this Kdrama oddly enough. I thought the main guy was super toxic but everyone around me (who was watching the show) loved him. But then by chance I saw a clip of Jung Yong Hwa as the second lead and thought he was both more attractive and super kind to the FL that I was devastated that FL would never notice him. It didn't make me watch the drama, but it did make me watch Heartstrings (another drama where they paired the FL and SL from You're Beautiful) and it did start my on-again-off-again addiction to JYH and CNBlue. It is also probably the origin story as to why I get SLS. Extraordinary You - I know I'm the one who is always anti-toxic-male-characters...so why did I fall for this super toxic second lead??? Aside from the fact that he was Lee Jae Wook who is very talented at playing nuanced characters , I think the love triangle got me in this one because it was about more than just the characters being stereotypes. They were complicated becaue they were controlled by a god-like comic book writer who made them who they were. So the second lead was toxic because the writer forced him to be that way. And it was painful to see that he graudally became a better person when he developed a consciousness and actually liked the FL, but realised if he wanted her to be happy he had to let her go despite his own feelings Also he had been made to treat her so badly in the past by the writer that there wasn't really a way he could make up for his behaviours even though they were mostly out of his control King's Affection - I loved all the male leads in this drama. But damn, I had such a soft spot for Nam Yoon Su's character in this drama. I don't know what it was, but I think he was super empathetic and caring for Park Eun Bin. It hurt to see him sidelined. But I also liked Rowoon and he wasn't toxic, so all pairing worked. Life's so hard when all the mean around you are hot and nice! Lost Romance (Taiwanese) - I think @Tofu will understand this one. Simon Lian's character Qing Feng was so much cooler and so much more caring. FL was just so in love with the self-centred main lead, but the second lead always did things to make her happy and ensure she was comfortable. And it was just so hard because Vivian (FL) and Simon (SL) had such good chemistry in real life even though she also had good chemistry with Marcus (ML). Hahahaha, my SLS was so intense during this period - I translated so many SL behind the scenes content and interviews The drama was a bit meh, but I still miss Qing Feng. There are more! But these were the main ones that came to mind because they hurt me deep Not normal for 2 Oppas to like me at the same time...but more normal for me to like 2 different Kdrama Oppas at the same time I agree. I only get SLS because I tend to watch more series where the SL gracefully bows out of the FL's life. Sometimes they don't even confess knowing the FL's feelings for ML. But yeah, have definitely seen many hatable second leads too - The SL from Heatbeat at the moment is pretty gross (likes the FL and wants her to cut off contact with ML due to 'safety' though she's fine)
  22. Wahhh, you must watch The Uncanny Counter abs. Worth it to see Kang Ki Young play a really evil villain This is quite the most insane schedule I've seen this year. I mean I'm not surprised. But I am shocked Hahaha I love that when @abs-oluteM says she has no time she's still diligently watching 5 dramas. When I have no time, I'm watching 1/2 an episode in one week of a single drama @Tofu I think sometimes there's no crack drama to keep you addicted. It's nice to have a break every now and then...hopefully sometime will really catch your eye soon! This is a very specific description But I love that you notice all of the details! Whose hand is it??? Hahaha I like amuseument parks and don't mind amusement park dates. But I thought the way that Woo Hyeol acted at the amuseument park was a bit too cheesey/ silly? Hahaha I was not convinced by his being sick on that ride or his being scared in the fun house...Taec=yeon's acting was too over the top in those scenes I also thought maybe the child actor was a bit green to acting. Most of the time I'm shocked at how good child actors are. But that child actor felt like he just memorised the lines. But I do like the sort of 'impossible' mechanics of this show though. Like how can Woo Hyeol like In Hae when Hae Sun's new version shows up? And in that last episode, it's horrifying to think that one must die so the other one can live HAHAHA Oh the second lead in Alechmy of Souls! I actually thought to myself when I first saw him on screen that he was probably your type. But you weren't watching that drama so didn' bother to mention to you. Looks like I was right though
  23. Hahaha I feel like this is my happy thread. Get to spy on all your Oppa adoptions but also it's just nice to talk to everyone who is supportive of everyone - no fan wars or defensiveness Hahaha...I was a tiny bit afraid o the AoS hread because we had a big JSM following on JH. And while there's a lot of normal JSM fans in the world, there were also a lot of really aggressive fans around during that time. Couldn't tell which was which and I was stressed.. To be honest, I'm not afraid of the old internet fight because I'm pretty good with words and logic. But I don't get pleasure in putting people down and it's so energy consuming. Haha I still haven't gotten onto this. So busy in real life now (again!) and Kdramaland just dropped a whole bunch od Kdramas on me Still haven't made time for D.P 2 yet! But i I end up watching this, I'll let you know! If he had people come out to defend him, it makes me feel a bit better...a bit more justified that he was less likely to be a bully. It's hard to know what's real, but I think if people come out to speak on yoour behalf, it's definitely a good sign of character. Hopefully the ratings continue to increase. The Uncanny Counter is just too good as a drama - humour, pacing, action. I just feel like it's revived my jadedness for dramas this year. I really hope it sweeps ratings! THEY ARE SOOOO EVIL But I enjoy really bad villains coz it makes the pacing more exciting in these action-type series Their aesthetics remind me of the villains from Batman Hahaha oh no. If the evil team are winning at games, our counters have no chance at saving the world Rowoon does look pretty handsome there! Taec-yeon has gotten a hold on me with his handsome vampire look I never cared about him when he was a Kpop star...but vampire version does it for me I DIED WITH THE 2ND KISS. It was too cute the way he pulled her on top of him and they cuddled I feel like they're cute when they're both a little awkward But realistic me was thinking...If it was me in that situation, I totally would have runied the moment by being like, "Hey why are you kissing me when they said you still like Hae Sun?!" But then again, Hae Su be damned. That second lead is so annoying that it totally ruins the image of the kind past Hae Sun First kiss was fun. but second kiss was better in my opinion. He was touched that she looked after him while sick and then couldn't help himself when she confessed (she said it even though she knew that he only cared about Hae Sun) Hahahaha I'm here! I didn't get time to watch that episode till yesterday. so catching up on my thoughts now. But I do really like the main couple. I'm just scared because they only just had 2 episodes of happiness and now it's going back into the angst of one-of-us-must-die-while-the-other-lives WHAAAAAAATTTT?!?!?! Oh my god, this is a dream cast if I ever saw one. Can't wait to see it. It's also 12 episode so less chance of any draggy storylines. I'm so happy Will you be watching @Tofu? Hahaha when you have too many oppas. must prioritise, huh?
  24. Do you like my new face @SilverMoonTea? Guess I'm a vampire now Damn, I feel like a bad LJW fan now Haha but I know season 2 was in Dec 2022. I did really like the show, but it was the weird fighting over the FL which I found off-putting on threads. Made it hard to discuss the drama wiithout being attacked! Hmmm maybe I'll give it a try. I've never been able to get into a C-Drama romance. I can't help but find the romances (that I've seen in the past up till now at least) to feel too mushy too quickly without that slow burn tension...buttttt maybe it's because I've never picked the right dramas for my taste before? The only C-drama I loved was The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty which I think was not anyone's cup of tea here, but quite popular on the webs for a very mild boys love/ bromance drama Oh so glad that I was not the only one who felt like that!!! I was soooo skeptical that he wasn't just going to use it to build dud businesses, drink and gamble etc I think we're all pretty jaded, but can you blame us when Siwon's character was such a scaredy rich kid?! I like KSR as an actress and think she's pretty and talented, but I think she did act pretty poorly and handled her social media very badly as well. Not that I think people should be unncessarily cruel, but I do understand why people are quick to anger when they hear her name. I think that she should have gone through rehab rather than get a fine...does that even fix a drinking problem?! I also wish the story telling of a drama wasn't affectd by this They didn't need to give her a big scene, just a brief reference to her character would have helped heaps. Oh nooo, I love The Uncanny Counter so far. If not guilty, I feel bad for CBG - from memory, I don't think there's substantial evidence of bullying? It's one of those things where he was accused in the middle of the scanndal period and then it was a their word vs. his word type scendario, which is much harder to prove inocence in. I don't know - I feel like people need to address the casues of bullying and change the underlying culture. In any case, I hope it doesn't ruin the hard work of the other actors.
