  1. I felt that way when I cheated and watched the fast-track ending. But apparently, all does not meet the eye. So, do watch till the end and tell us what you think of it. @Tofu Because I was cheating and ffed,
  2. @OsmanthusTea YESH! I knew LYN was a divorcee because I follow a YTber and I recall watching one episode where it was reported that he came right out to clarify the situation when people tried to dig dirt about him - such irresponsible behaviour, dragging the ex-wife into the media. And I recall, he did it very promptly, so the matter died down quickly. As someone who has his own channel, I suppose he had no qualms about making that clarification in his campervan, and in his costume (perhaps, it was the drama with Song Zu Er that he was shooting then...), with a phone - very decisive of him and assertive, he told them off for bringing this matter up. After you told me, I went online to do some research. Well, I suppose it took WZM years to start making some money and living in a 30sqm apartment must have taken its toll on the relationship, particularly if perseverance and thrift are NOT their innate traits. Read somewhere that the other half was getting friendly with another celebrity, oh well, if there's any truth to it. Btw, has anyone got any updated news about LYN and Song Zu Er? Heard that there's still some hope left for Prisoner of Beauty (I saw the trailer, and LYN looks really bad-*** there). Also, for Crystal Yuan, any hope too?? I am dying to watch her with the hot guy (Liu Xue Yi - Love Never Fails) and the older but still fairly hot guy (Wallace Chung in The Emperor's Love). @liddi my friend loves TJC, and is singing praises about the drama you mentioned. The FL is extremely sweet, so that helps too.
  3. Eh, if I have limited time only, and he is an introvert, it means he will need time to warm up to me, then how much time do I have to get to know him??? Which is my main concern. Actually, I am an ambivert, so I am also half introverted, hhhmmm maybe I can sit and stare at his face the entire time? yah... tbh, she is not only aggressive, but after he turns around to woo her (due to a belated realisation on his part), she behaves like she is 刁蛮 and 发脾气 a bit unreasonable...but the reason I can relate with her character is when I was younger, I also went after a guy, but then later, I also behaved somewhat like her, had a lot to do with pride and the feeling of "I sacrificed so much and threw so much into this one-sided relationship that I dunno if you really feel that same way about me, as in do you feel the same intensity as I do". So for people who cannot relate to her behaviour or cannot understand where she is coming from, she can seem very unreasonable and childish. But the ML has great lines.... and if I met someone who told me the same thing when I was younger, I would buckle over and give in entirely. LOL @OsmanthusTea he is a divorcee? really? when? to whom? Ah, that explains why he probably can deliver some lines better than some other male actors. He's been in a marriage, and a divorce means he probably went through some rough patches, so he understands what those emotions mean, the silver lining in the cloud I guess. Hhmmm, I'll give it some thought, I am not sure I want to watch him with other men, but I'll give it a try. I know what you mean about the minute Didi opens his mouth. I found his relationship with Bai Lu, the characters I mean, in Only For Love, odd. The person who wrote the script, or perhaps followed the novel too closely, needs some help with script writing. As for Liu Xue Yi and Zhang Yu Xi, it was hot, I agree! Now that's another man I have thoughts about too, other than Miles Wei. @SilverMoonTea Actually drinking coffee is G-rating, if it's P18, it's definitely something else
  4. Oh, do watch so we can swoon together. haha Do tell me when you start watching! I don't particularly fancy Luo Zheng, if you ask me, I'd much prefer Liu Xue Yi, now that fella is one 霸道 character! But Miles isn't as 霸道 as Dylan Wang, there's this 温柔 and 斯文 manner about him, also a very peculiar way in which he delivers his lines... the last few words kinda get softer and more slurred (probably not very good) but it makes his speech very distinctive. Sigh, I can't tell you how many times I wish I was the one in the FL's role , what I would do to see him in real life and have a coffee with him. Though I think in real life, he won't be as easy to get along with as compared with people like Dylan (more outgoing). I suspect Miles is a bit more introverted, have you come across any news or interviews with him in this regard? Oh, he has a contract with Mango? Hello, I am at your Service was by iQIYI and the upcoming one 披荆斩棘的大小姐, no idea. [To be objective, his face fits modern drama better, the few times I have seen him in costume, it doesn't quite jive... LOL]
  5. @Tofu i have not watched all eps but the few snippets I watch here and there tell me that this is great for those who love very sweet scenes. I watched the FL recently in Scent of Time and she can act her part well. Here, she is even more sweet and her smile is disarming. TJC, oh well, I know that he is extremely dedicated to his work, so I am sure he tried his best to do well here too.
  6. I agree, the beginning was a little strange. And just like you, I watched purely for Miles Wei - no regrets, he delivers! I've finished till E18 and I must say the scriptwriter did a pretty decent job for the ML's lines. Particularly when in E15-17, when he tells her how he really feels and explains his initial behaviour, those are believable explanations and the FL's response to him, I can understand because I am someone who would respond just like that. So, there's at least a bit of depth to the characters than the normal romance script.
  7. @Tofu @40somethingahjumma my bad, I replied with my comments about SOKP in the wrong forum. @Tofu, if you can shift it here??? I accidentally replied in My Journey to You, in response to 40somethingahjumma....
  8. @Tofu @SilverMoonTea @OsmanthusTea I can't recall who here thinks Miles Wei is eye candy... or maybe none of you BUT I just wanted to say that I am currently watching I May Love You (对你不止是喜欢), where he stars with Huang Ri Ying AND he is STILL such eye candy. And there are a few scenes where the character is soooooo endearing. He's typecasted into CEO roles, and lately he was in one other drama as a ML + a few other supporting characters (not remarkable roles). But it's so nice to see him appearing on screen - someone on YT said he must be easy to work with because he gets jobs easily. I didn't think of him much in the other one where he starred with Xu Lu (Hello, I am at your service) though it was a fun watch AND it must have done well because now the both of them are casted into another costume drama. But this drama, his character is much more thoughtful and the feels I get is like when I saw him in Perfect and Casual. Is anyone watching so we can drool together???
  9. Sorry for the late reply - been tied up with work lately. I finished it, binge-watched over a few days. We have not had many good dramas lately, and so this was a little refreshing for me. Also, because I had just finished Scent of Time, which has a similar concept and funnily enough, the ML there is a supporting actor here, so it was satisfying to watch a similar genre as I didn't have a very satisfying ending with the other one. The drama is watchable for someone who needs pure entertainment and satisfying for a sucker who loves HEs. I understand that if one has a critical eye, costumes would be off-putting as they threw in a whole bunch of costumes from different dynasties but since I know no better, this was no issue. Now, for the reasons why one might be dissatisfied. After watching it, I saw a reviewer on YT critic the drama and I must say I agree to some of the comments plus my own observations. - Bai Lu appears the same in any drama she takes on, so the way she portrays this character feels no different from a few others she has taken on. Her facial expressions all look too familiar. And her face is too old for the character she is playing, someone less than 18 years old or thereabouts. - Zhang Ling He captured my attention years back when he was relatively unknown with Sebrina Chen in Maiden Holmes and there was this innocence in him then, that is sharply contrasted in this character he plays. Xie Wei, the ML in this drama is dark, and his background is a little like the protagonist in NIF (though he didn't lose his entire family and army overnight). So, he is twisted and hell-bent for revenge. But I believe because ZLH (IMHO) is by nature someone who doesn't have those dark traits and can't imagine how to depict them, has over-projected himself to the point he looks unnatural. The curled lips, the insane glare + the makeup, and as the YTber said the constant shouting to command presence makes it appear unbelievable. I watched a video where he commented about the criticism he got, and he admitted that perhaps he doesn't fully understand this character. AND it probably doesn't help that the director didn't give much advice in this department. - The script changed certain parts from the novel, so those who read the novel find the changes hard to accept the way the characters or certain plots developed. - After being at odds with each other for so many episodes, and the deep distrust that the FL has for the ML which was conveyed to viewers, the sudden acceptance towards him felt out of place, even if he did save her many times. - Though the ML never really harmed the FL, I didn't appreciate the rough behaviour he displayed towards her (the scriptwriter must secretly enjoy such things or if they adhered to the original content, the novelist must have a penchant for such things.) As someone on MDL said, Bai Lu's neck probably got overused and abused. Overall, I would say, if one can suspend judgment and enjoy it for what it is, it's one of the better dramas this year, particularly if one is like me, a sucker for HEs
  10. @40somethingahjumma I have been in like with Alen Fang for a long time, glad you think kindly of him in this drama. He has typically been casted in the supporting role, for whatever reasons, and even if he took on the lead role, it was not in a drama with a good script, so I hope this time, he will at least get noticed a bit more for future projects. As for Liu Yu Ning, I think my wish came true and he is going to be paired with Zhao Lu Si in another new drama - though sometimes these things can fail miserably because of the plot. Let's see. Yah, poor tall chap (LYN) was getting such a beating about his looks - not good looking enough, etc. China viewers can be extremely blunt and cruel, he didn't graduate from acting school so he has had to pick up the trade from on-the-job training, but I think he doesn't lack in terms of on-screen presence and the right attitude. But I must say, besides his hard work, he has quite a bit of luck/ good interpersonal connections. I recall he mentioned that he got the role in Legend of Anle from attending a celebration dinner, and the director signed him up for the role just like that, over dinner!
  11. @Tofu @SilverMoonTea @40somethingahjumma are you watching Kunning Palace??
  12. 冬至 Love Song in Winter (CCTV, iQIYI) - A detective, Jiang Chengyi and an anesthesiologist, Lu Yan who are separated for eight years due to a misunderstanding and reunited with their old love. Johnny Huang and Sun Qian confirmed in the role and booting ceremony not long ago took place. Not sure about the pairing but another so-call uniform role, though detectives don't really have a uniform. hahaha
  13. @abs-oluteM you mean the one with Reba? Nope....for some reason I prefer her in costume drama, with the exception of her show with Yang Yang.... because of that, I didn't watch Love Designer. I found his chemistry with Li Qin more endearing for some reason... but this will have to do till he appears in another uniform drama.
  14. @abs-oluteM I am strangely drawn to Johnny Huang and first saw him in My Dear Guardian. I saw a fan-made video comparing him in a uniform with the other guy who was also a fireman in a drama that drew lots of flack (keh keh keh). And I concur that JH makes a more convincing fireman, soldier, etc. He admitted that he has played a few uniform roles and it's become second nature to him, and I think that's why he was natural in this drama (he also said he won't do costume dramas because the make up & prolly the wig + glue, makes him feel extremely uncomfortable). I certainly look forward to seeing him in another uniform role, I am sure he won't fail.
  15. @liddi Thanks for listing the changes in the script; that indeed settled my curiosity. Oh well, let's see what happens then!
  16. It's honestly not exciting, yet not too boring, enough of a hook to want to keep me watching. LOL After MLC and MJTY, the bar just went too far up for other dramas to make me feel that way, so I have to adjust my expectations. But I heard China audiences are pretty positive about it, which means it can't be that bad.
  17. @SilverMoonTea i haven't been really watching. Mother's boy is not my cup of tea and sometimes I watch he is in a wheelchair and sometimes he's not. I am confused with such a storyline, though if I were to follow each episode I am sure there is a valid explanation. Anyways, tonight is ending and I watched it!!!! Really old-school drama. Dunno how many times CY is in the hospital, now not enough, the FL also in the hospital.
  18. @SilverMoonTea @Tofu aren't you both watching 为有暗香来 or Scent of Time? It's got Zhou Ye and Wang Xing Yue. The 2nd timeline plot ...not revenge, it's a so-call female villain who gets a second chance at life and tries to right the wrongs. Its a strange experience watching this drama. It's neither overly exciting nor boring, there's suspense but it's not overly suspenseful, it's got drama yet not overly dramatic. It's like sitting by a river, watching the water flow placidly, calming yet relaxing. I can't quite put my finger on how to describe it but I am enjoying it and so wishing it would speed up. haha Heard HBO Asia bought the rights, so the quality of translation should be decent.
  19. @SilverMoonTea Yes, I like YZ as a serious character more than as a bubbly, over-the-top kinda character. But then what brought her to fame (AOL) was partly that, strange that I come to think of it, these few dramas have her as both bubbly and then serious: AOL, IS, LYF.... I think the only one where she won't have much time to be bubbly (except for flash back) is The Golden Hairpin. I am so dying for Kenny Lin (melon) and her to finish reshooting. Hopefully they can push it out for 2024... I agree, CY and YZ were pretty amazing. And I liked that he got pay-back sort of, when the tables turned on him and she kept pushing him away [me cackling away like an evil witch]. Still, I reckon this genre should be put to rest for now. Too much of the I love you but can't be with you and then tables-turned storyline. Then again, this year we got Xiao Zhan in what was really The Longest Promise to viewers....and I am sure, someone will wanna cash in on the script as long as they think they can milk it.
  20. @Tofu Cheng Lei is in this drama! He is good, saw him in the short format drama before and knew he would nail this role. In real life though, I saw clips put together of him, he seems very nervous in large crowds, and the video kept poking fun of him as he didn't know where to put his hands in many of the fan meets or in public appearances. LOL @NiteWalker yaloh....I first saw him in Maiden Holmes and thought, 'my goodness, what a young, fresh-looking face, and so 斯文! Until today, I still think he looks very 斯文.... haha. I know in Tiger and Crane, there's a scene where he appears to be a darker character, but in my mind, he will always have that good boy look. And yah...he ought to get the girl in the 3rd drama pairing.
  21. @SilverMoonTea i have seen her twice, once as a really cool, calm and very collected Sifu to Esther Yu's character in LBFAD. Loved her to bits there even though her appearances were brief. Then I saw her in Warm on a Cold Night with Bi Wen Jun, whom I think is cute. But her character there was totally opposite - more like the EY kind, loud, dramatic, you knowlah that sort. I think she has potential but I prefer her as the cool, composed sort more. Let's see. With CY ah...hhmmm depends on the character. Though CY with Chen Du Ling (calm, collected) was IMHO awesome in MLC. I cannot imagine him with someone like EY, loud and bursting with energy, muah hah hah hah
  22. @SilverMoonTea lol, format different. My bad. Someone said the sypnosis sounds like MJTU, rumour has it, she is a spy who enters his household. heh heh heh
  23. @40somethingahjumma wah I admire your ability to maintain your glee - I watched the latest episode and I wanna strangle the mother... And give me powerful, crafty and blood-puking CY anytime. This version of submission-to-mother, wan-looking, gonna-topple -down-when-the-wind-blows CY is just
