‘Old Boy’ star Choi Min Sik says he missed TV dramas

 

 

 

 

Top movie star Choi Min Sik did not hide his excitement at his return after 25 years to the small screen in Disney+ noir series “Big Bet.” His last television drama was MBC’s “Love and Farewell” (1997-1998).

 

“I decided to star in ‘Big Bet’ because I really missed TV dramas,” Choi said in a press conference at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square Seoul on Wednesday.

 

The veteran actor explained he wanted the opportunity to work on a project featuring a long story.

 

“Drama series are not limited to a two- to three-hour playing time. I was more than satisfied to have enough time to deliver the long story about my character Cha Moo Sik,” Choi added.

Disney+’s original Korean drama series “Big Bet” opened the new year with strong results, ranking first on multiple streaming service aggregators and raking in good reviews, the streaming sercvie said Tuesday.

 

“Big Bet” achieved the highest IMDB score — 8.4 — among domestic streaming service series as of Tuesday, garnering rave reviews for the four episodes released so far, according to Disney+.

 

“Big Bet” is led by veteran actor Choi Min Sik, who is venturing into the streaming service market for the first time in his career. Choi is a household name within Korea for his many leading roles in film and television. This also marks his first television role in 25 years.

 

“Big Bet” beat other Korean dramas released on streaming services around the same time, including Netflix’s “The Glory” and Tving and Amazon Prime Video’s “Island.” “The Glory” garnered an 8.1 rating on IMBD, while “Island” garnered 6.8.

 

“Big Bet” also features actor Son Seok Ku, who previously starred in “My Liberation Notes” (2022) and “The Roundup” (2022).

Episode 5 of 'Big Bet' starts with the back story of Chairman Ko who bet a large amount of money and Moo Sik (Choi Min Sik) spurring business expansion by entering the best casino in 'Caliz Bolton Hotel'. 

 

Here, Moo Sik and Jeong Pal (Lee Dong Hwi) team up to design a Korean VIP with a lot of wealth to bet all their wealth in a casino, and will bring fun to a new world of casinos that has never been seen before.

 

Lastly, it arouses curiosity about what will happen to various characters, from Jeong Pal, who seems to be waiting for someone while holding flowers and a ring, to Jin Young Hee (Kim Joo Ryeong), a new meat restaurant owner.
