Recipe For Farewell is based on the true story of writer Kang Chang Rae. 'Recipe For Farewell' a slice of life drama about a husband’s kitchen diary who sets a table for his wife, who was diagnosed with colon cancer. The Watcha original drama 'Recipe For Farewell' side released a behind-the-scenes video of the 3rd and 4th parts full of humanity on December 13th shows the scene where the three awkward families get closer to each other.

 

Han Suk Kyu, who plays the role of Chang Wook, personally prepared the dried oysters, which became the main recipe for part 3. He showed confidence in his cooking skills that goes beyond the details of preparing oysters especially for his family besides he plays the role of husband 'Chang Wook' who clumsy cooks shared hilarious scenes.

 

Kim Seo Hyung, who transformed into an emotional queen, showed off a lovely and mischievous charm off camera, unlike in her main story. In particular, in the scene where she works with new actor Jin Ho Eun, who plays her son 'Jae Ho', their chemistry is expected to shine even more in the upcoming episodes.

Han Suk Kyu‘s ‘Recipe for Farewell’ a local hit

Watcha’s latest drama series “Recipe for Farewell” has staked out a spot in the streaming market's fierce year-end competition with its heartwarming story.

 

The series revolves around a middle-aged man named Chang Wook (played by Han Suk Kyu) whose wife is terminally ill. The series develops as the husband learns to cook for his sick wife.

 

“Recipe for Farewell” remained in the No. 1 slot on the service’s viewership chart for three consecutive weeks after its premiere on Dec. 1.

 

The series is expected to surpass the smash-hit project “Semantic Error,” which topped the chart for eight consecutive weeks.

 

According to the homegrown streaming service, the drama led an increase in paid subscribers in the first week following its release.

 

Proving its popularity, the 12-part human drama also received an average rating of 4.5 out of five at Watchapedia, a South Korean app for movie and TV show recommendations, recording the highest score among 190 TV series that were released this year.

 

Adapted from an autobiographical essay of the same title by author Kang Chang Rae, “Recipe for Farewell” features Chang Wook, who has never cooked before in his life, and his journey to preparing food for his family.

With each episode named after Korean dishes and focusing on how the character progresses in cooking, including making japchae – a stir-fried glass noodle dish with meat and vegetables that requires multiple steps -- the series is considered a new style of food drama.

With top actor Han Suk Kyu’s small screen return in two years after SBS’ medical drama “Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim 2,” “Recipe for Farewell” drew attention from many drama fans even before its release.

 

Four of the 12 episodes were screened at this year’s Busan International Film Festival in October.

'Recipe For Farewell' has been confirmed for Channel A.

 

'Recipe For Farewell' will be broadcast for the first time on Channel A on February, 7.

 

'Recipe For Farewell' (Director/Screenplay Lee Ho Jae) is based on the same-titled essay based on a true story by Kang Chang Rae and is for his wife, Da Jung (Kim Seo Hyung), who finds it difficult to eat and each meal is precious. It is a human drama depicting the story of her husband, Chang Wook (Han Suk Kyu), who is clumsy but tries to make a precious meal and gradually realizes the meaning of family. The new found character and virtue has made viewers were left in tears.

 

 

 

 

 

The drama was produced as a total of 12 episodes of about 30 minutes each time, and was first released through Watcha last December.

 

Channel A confirms the first TV program of the drama 'Recipe For Farewell', a drama that attracted attention from the casting stage and received favorable reviews early on for its warm directing, with A-list actors Han Suk Kyu and Kim Seo Hyung working together as a married couple to warm viewers heart.
