SYNOPSIS

The clever and decisive Liu Mian Tang, as the first lord of Yang Shan, led the people of Yang Shan to punish the wicked, promote goodness, and uphold justice. However, she suffered serious injuries under the attack of various evil forces and was rescued by Cui Xing Zhou, the Prince of Huai Yang. In the past week or so, We TV has been working hard to promote the show. They dropped so many teasers and that worked since reservations for the drama is already at 3 million. Hope the show lives up to my expectation.

A good compilation of teasers from both perspectives. The reason he lies  to her is because I think she's was from the enemy's camp. He thought he could use her as a chess piece. But once her memories returned, she was mad as hell and she would get back at him. My favourite line is when she bit / kissed him and said that do you want to experience what the taste of hate is like? 

Poor girl probably wondered why he was not being intimate with him etc when she was trying her utmost best to be such a good wife. TBH, he was most definitely falling for her but  trying his best to have lots of self control ahahahah

I enjoyed the 1st two episodes. The storytelling was good from the start - clearly establishing his motives for staging such a deception, and fleshing out her personality despite being confused & amnesic. The humor is just right & the romance is developing organically. What I enjoy most is seeing CXZ get sucked in to this charade; staging & spinning scenarios to maintain the this make believe world he's set up for LMT- unwittingly becoming a chess piece himself. The amount of staging & lies that he and his staff have told her - she's gonna be mad as hell once she remembers.  But of course from his perspective - she's the enemy's person. He is using her to lure the actual person out. 

 

I also really like LMT's character. She may have lost her memories but her personality is there - she is clearly intelligent , resourceful and decisive. The way she negotiated for the shop lots & set the business in motion. She often wonders  why he seems warm or was told he is  a kind person but yet she senses the distance. She has accepted her identity quite easily but she's naturally observant so keeps catching him being inconsistent.  Also, the way her muscle memory worked when she was fending off the scoundrel who was after her showed that she was no ordinary girl before her amnesia.  

 

The pace is quite fast - I think there's a lot of story to tell so in episode 2 there are already signs that the lines between real and fake is blurring. He may be suspicious of her but he can't help being protective of her. I especially like the scene towards the end of ep 2 when he insisted on having a banquet to clear the rumor that she is just a mistress. It wasn't merely just to lure the enemy out.

So far I am enjoying the series (am up to date till eps 3) - at this point there's quite a bit of humor but we know that there's intrigue about LMT's real identity and how all this ties in to CXZ's arch enemy Luo Wen whom CXZ has been after for the past 3 years. 
 

Some thoughts

They should have kept the original title Hidden Charm because that's the effect LMT is having on CXZ. Each time he think he's right about her being LuWen's person, he gets wowed over by her devotion & genuineness. Ofc part of him still thinks it's all an act.

 

1. He staged the carriage accident at the beginning hoping that would expose her & lure LuWen out but he was impressed that all she could think of was making it to the banquet since husband had spent so much to prepare this.

 

2. He continued to observe her during the banquet from afar thinking that LuWen would finally appear. When he thought it was finally LuWen who came, he was wrong again. She threw hot water at the scoundrel and that lead to the scene of her treating his burnt skin.

 

3. That treatment scene - when she blew on his skin - the innuendo there need not be explained. I mean he's a full blooded male and I think he's definitely shaken

 

4. Then when they went to bed, she finally realised as per what the villagers told her that perhaps he wanted to consummate the marriage & decided to do it despite not being mentally ready. He really needed lots of self control to say no

 

 

The game changer will be eps 6. His feelings for her will become more and more ambiguous. He keeps thinking she's just a chess piece to lure out LuWen but of course we know that will not last long. He's falling into his own trap . LOL

 

This OST is so sweet

CXZ never expected her to be such a devoted wife. Man is shaken...his feelings for her are becoming ambiguous. Is she really LuWen's person ? How does he plan to get out of this web of lies that he has spun - I mean he almost got caught in eps 5 and his staff are going to give it away especially Li Mama and her slip of tongue.

I don't why people say it's slow but I love the show so far. I think these episodes are crucial to show how CXZ's feeling evolved. As the Prince of Huiyang , he's cold & calculating. He's constantly stressed juggling the politics. But coming "home" , he feels at rest & cared for.  He tells his housekeeper playing house will end when they catch the enemy LuWen. But everyone can see how immersed he is in being the husband. He's jealous & protective - if she was merely a just a pawn he won't be so bothered about what happens to her. He is falling for LMT and just hasn't realised it .

I was just going to say I find it slow 😂 I've finished ep3 and am going to play the rest while I work - it doesn't need much concentration at this time since not much has developed in 3 episodes. I'm wondering how they are going to stretch it to 40 😅

 

The drama is starting off light. There are some moments to snicker. His "wife" is a beauty who has the general public oggling at her including the women. But he asks "Is she?" with his deadpan face, then goes home to her changing for bed and showing her sexy legs and shoulders. Because he is not sleeping with her, his subordinates have to cook up a story and say he is "unable". And his wife keeps asking him to take his medicine lol.

 

I quite like Zhang Wanyi. He has a certain acting style/manner that is unique. It's there both in Lost you forever and this drama.

 

The FL though... Her character is a good one - strong, intelligent and savvy even with her memory loss. But the acting, have to wait and see. I thought there was not much expression, just a lot of big eyes and looking pretty while spouting the script.

 

For now, I have some questions:

 

- Was Luo Wen the guy who kidnapped her 3 years ago on her way to be married? He seems to have a genuine relationship with her instead of just a mean kidnapper.

- How did she lose her memory and end up with CXY? They've not shown that yet right?

All I can say is Lou Wen isn't who we think he is. For now, CXZ thinks that  Lou Wen is the bandit leader & he think he is hiding in the Mountain of Yang. He personally has no idea how LW looks like. He is guessing that she is the concubine of LouWen given where he found her. Where he found her was at the river near that mountain - at that time she had her hand tendons cut off (and was left for dead)  and he got his bestie Physician Zhao to treat her. After a long while she woke up from her coma. The only memory she had was that she was on her way to get married to a man called Cui Jiu ( which was also the nickname that Physician Zhao gives CXZ) So when she heard him being called CuiJiu and CXZ had that scented pouch she had made for her future husband then, she thought CXZ was her husband. CXZ wasn't intending to deceive her but I think he jumped at the chance to pretend to be her husband thinking this way he can get intel about LouWen as he suspects she is LouWen's person. 

 

I like both leads - I think they are suited for their roles. I love how naturally she comes across as a truly sweet & devoted wife. And I love watching his change - from being suspicious to falling for her. This is a romance centric drama - it won't be so heavy though the conflicts are starting. Zhang WanYi ( he's very funny - got this sense of humor to him even IRL) that this drama isn't like his other roles where you will need tissue to wipe your tears. If anything he says you'll need tissue to wipe your drool cause it's very sweet.

but I do like how they are setting up their relationship and I like how intelligent she is. She's especially observant & despite her memory loss, has not lost her wit. The way she dealt with the other merchants who were terribly sexist men was very good. The women is this show are well-written as in they are the backbone of their families but given the times , they do what needs to be done subtly. I am at the point where he's already feeling very conflicted - is she really LuWen's person? He is enjoying this role play more than he will admit . On a subconcious level he sees himself as her husband.   The 2ML has appeared and CXZ suspect he is LouWen. But this guy is a mystery - all we know is that he recognises LMT and they had a complicated past. 

 

I love this scene - squeezed my heart. At this point , he's already fallen for her if you ask me.

I'm watching from Duboku where the intro is not shown. Strangely, I never saw this part. Thanks for the summary.

 

I'm at ep7, where he is falling already. LMT is indeed a very well written character. So is that Ms He, who is probably in love with the Prince. Wonder if anything will develop between the 2 women later (meow).

Just finished ep 12.The story is engaging, the leads are pleasure to watch but I didnt expect 

this to be this funny.. 

The ML delivered the comedic scenes very well (Go club scenes, the scenes between him and Zhao, the ''Sweet Night'' scene..)  

The other characters are also likeable, Moru, Miss He, Miss Shi...I think Ziyu is a good guy, I like him.

Not sure if he is Lu Wen.

Yay you have started this @rocher22   I’m only up to ep 11 & bracing myself for the angst ahead 🫠😅. I’m enjoying the sweetness  & comedy but I know from some spoiler novels ( if they follow it ) , CXZ will not be revealing his identity so fast. The hate he’ll get from viewers won’t be pretty . I’m not defending him but I actually feel for him.

The girl, Sun is very cunning but Im glad that Miss Shi is a composed and smart girl. 

 

 

 

Another strong woman, the Princess of the Tribe...Loved the scene between her and CXZ. 

 

Finally, the Princess warned LMT to be cautious about CXZ.

the hidden angst scenes from ep 17 are compelling and I just love them in that scenes.. they both are smart. 

Looking forward to both of them working together.
