Cast- Their Characters And Their First Looks

K-dramas are very uptight about their characters and their first looks. Almost all of them release their character’s descriptions and first look posters before the drama starts. The same is with River Where The Moon Rises. Earlier, character illustrations and images were released for the upcoming historical show. And we have only one thing to say. Perfection.

River Where The Moon Rises tells the story of love between Pyeonggang and On Dal. They are the lead characters in this iconic Goguryeo folktale. Pyeonggang/Yeom Ga Jin is an ambitious woman who wants to be the first female to lead Goguryeo. She seems to go to any lengths to fulfill her dream. This makes her use On Dal and his feelings to achieve her goals.

Well, Pyeong Gang and On Dal are a legendary couple from the Goguryeo era, but it's a pretty romantic story since he wins his princess. Or rather, the princess wins the husband that she wants rather than the husband her father the king picked for her. In the legend, On Dal who is also known as The Idiot because he was the village beggar eventually rises to become a heroic general of the kingdom who eventually dies in battle. It's a classic Korean "rags to riches if you have a good heart" story, and considered a fable rather than history.

So, depending on how long in the relationship this drama covers, it could have a happy ending with the Princess and her General living lovingly together, or it could have a sad ending with On Dal's death for his country.

Ji Soo's character teaser explained

credit : Soompi

The newly released teaser begins with On Dal remembering the words of his father On Hyup (played by Kang Ha Neul). Despite being a revered general, On Hyup finds himself in a situation where he desperately urges his son, “Dal, you must become an ordinary man—no, become a fool, and survive.”

Heeding his father’s words, On Dal—who is now dressed in frayed, humble clothing that seems at odds with his status as a famous general’s son—hides his intelligence and strength in order to stay alive.

Pyeonggang, who first meets On Dal under the name Yeom Ga Jin, brings meaning to his lonely life and gives him something to strive for aside from survival. When she tells him, “People say that everyone is born with their own destiny,” he replies, “My destiny is you, Ga Jin.”

Embracing her, he confidently declares, “Someday, you and I will become bride and groom. You’re going to end up with me eventually.” The clip then shares a glimpse of Pyeonggang and On Dal dressed in luxurious clothing, unlike in the previous scenes—piquing viewers’ curiosity as to what has changed for the would-be lovers.

@abs-oluteM - Wow, no one ever release English subs for the script reading! I'm very appreciative of that. When LJH said that he didn't get to show everything in his last drama (Dinner Mate), I was like, "I hated you soooooooooo much in that drama!" :pandarage2:

Oh no why?! Can every drama be like Run On with no love triangle? :yoongibtspls:

On Dal is going to go against his dad's wishes, he is not going to be an ordinary man or be a fool at all.

Edit:

More JiSoo!
