Unfortunately i'm not really a big fan of PP Oh and btw...apparently in certain scene..not sure which one.. There's a poster on the background of the men double Indonesian team...known as Minions. Hahahahahahaha. Mwo! PP was ex-cellent! How come you didn't enjoy it? I checked the official posters, there are no other people in the background. Perhaps you meant an episode still. I wouldn't recognise anyone though lool. 2 2 Link to comment
LaLa
@SnowBlob I tried to find the posters but haven't found it yet in the drama. I guess the scenes where it was aired in the trailer is for the upcoming episodes. Although it's not very clear I do think that it is minions in the picture Don't mind about the writer past work, focus on the current one. :) From my guess, this story will focus on the journey of the athletes from being just a regular player to professional one. I like the first 2 episodes. It has the humour and also the touching story mixed in to one. Like in episode 2, I don't that curry could bring laugh and make you feel touch at the same time. Throw in the kimchi (I think it's geotjori, one kind of freshly made kimchi that can be eaten as soon as you finished make it without long time process to ferment it) and it will give a meaningful gesture for the dinner time. I wonder how long that the actors and actresses practice for the badminton. I don't know whether they use a substitute when they shoot the match because the pose, strokes and the whole process of the game or rounds looks very realistic like a real match in a game. If they don't use any substitute then I gave a big applause and appreciation for them for practicing hard. It's not easy to do that but they've done it like a real athletes. And also for the female actress. They really cut the hair short for their role and it's not easy. The haircut they have reminds me of Ahn Se Young (Korean Single Female Athlete) and Akane Yamaguchi (Japanese Single Female Athlete). Maybr the story of Se Yoon will take a background of two of them because both were still young when they joined the national team and won a lot of medals when they were in junior section. I'm interested to find out why Hae Kang left badminton and moved to baseball. Perhaps it related with his parents who also used to be an athlete themselves when they were young? This scene. It's actually quite sad to hear it. What Hae Kang said about it, not all wrong. As far as I knew (from watching k variety shows) badminton is a quite popular among the Korean people and they do have local clubs and local competition, but if you compare it with baseball and football then the differences and gaps were too big. I felt sad about this when I watched the first episode. And found this on timeline. Apparently the badminton world federation also watch the drama? Maybe because many matches were being cancelled because of the pandemic? 4 1 Currently Watching List: K-drama: The Real Has Come, See You in My 19th Life K-variety: Link to comment
bluepebbles
This blog featured the rackets used in the drama. Honestly , I don't play sports, but I find this drama interesting not only because of the plot but badminton is quite similar to tennis (which im an avid fan of world tournaments). Haekang and Youngtae - Yonex Astrox 88 Dae-mun- Yonex Astox 77 Woo-chan - Yonex 2019 Voltric LD Force Seyoon and Solyi uses Astrox 77 with variation of color red Spoiler 2 1 1 Link to comment
bluepebbles
Haekang 's curry of hope While everyone try to save their lives from eating the horrible curry cooked by Haekang (the adjusshi even buried the poor curry in the ground), this couple was literally saved from committing suicide. Thanks to Haekang's curry of hope. It can save lives ! This is a big shot of reality in Korea, where suicide is prevalent not only to the younger age bracket--but also to adult , and families who are struggling financially. The drama is quite bold to tackle this in terrestrial TV. Since 2014, family or multiple suicides are becoming frequent that the government was alarmed . Repeated incidents shed light on holes in S. Korea’s welfare safety net Quote Over the past year (2019), at least 70 people have passed away in 18 known incidents of multiple suicides and murder-suicides involving entire families. The most frequent reason identified from suicide notes and other information is believed to be extreme financial problems. In many cases, including the Daegu and Incheon incidents, families did not meet the government’s criteria for public assistance. The insertion of the couple going to rural area to commit suicide, I am itching to think that this could be a mask or a foreshadowing about Yoon 's family. Or this only represents the prejudice of couple / family suddenly going back from big cities like Seoul to rural areas just to commit suicide eventually. The Haenam village was also skeptical about Yoon's family sudden transfer to the county. No wonder, the halmoni became concerned about the two kids, and fed them. We still have 14 episodes, and considering the writer--there are a lot of stories to tell yet. Dad Yoon is a fighter in a sense that even after he was conned because of the co-maker of a loan, he still manages to have his pride intact regardless. 2 3 Link to comment
mademoiselle
Thanks for the racquet info @bluepebbles A family member who plays badminton is already naming some of the racquets while we watch (and criticising the actors' posture - so annoying). I'll let him know and see if he guessed right. We both notice Hae Kang hasn't been wearing a proper badminton shoes in his match - I'm guessing he hasn't because he's not yet serious about continuing (and also noticed he's wearing one in the IG posts). Your post above reminded me about the city couple. I'm actually quite puzzled as to why they moved to a rural area only to attempt suicide. I'm glad Hae Kang's curry and Halmoni's kimchi save them. I have never had fresh kimchi and always thought kimchi are naturally sour. Thanks to @stroppyse I realised it is not. I'm now very interested in that kimchi. Hahaha. Need more Koreans / know more Korean friends in my country so I would get a chance to try more authentic Korean cuisine. I am now getting more acquainted to Indian food thanks to a colleague been feeding me 2 1 Link to comment

Actually, @LaLawas the one who mentioned geotjeori which is more like a salad type kimchi, and she's probably right given the way the grandmother was mixing the kimchee. Using tender Spring cabbage, it looked delicious! Though I have to say that even regular kimchee which is made to ferment can be eaten fresh, and if the seasoning is good, it will still be delicious. It just won't have the sourness of the fermentation. But, it all depends on the actual seasoning. If it's poorly seasoned, the kimchee won't taste good whether it's fresh or fermented. Poorly seasoned kimchee can taste bland, too salty, too briny, or even too vinegary. Not geotjeori exactly, but a "quick kimchee" recipe which actually resembles seasoning that can be used to make fresh kimchee. Plus, the host is very cute. 2 2 Link to comment
stroppyse
Episode 2 was fun as well, giving us a bit more insight into the various characters. HK stands up for YT who got bullied which I thought was part of that same caring quality that he had when dealing with the grandmother and grandfather. It's interesting though that HK's mother calls it that HK has a temper and his pride has been hurt rather than that he is truly interested in badminton again or has any team spirit or sense of responsibility. Even volunteering to do part of Dae Mun's punishment or standing up for YT wasn't really about being a team, but rather HK's temper. I think that the mother is still right at this point, and I wonder what will finally get HK to develop a true sense of being a member of a team. Regardless of that, though, HK is making friends with the other guys, even if purely from hanging out together all the time. I wonder if HK will lose his singles match again which will provoke his temper further to take badminton seriously. Or whether he will win and find that he enjoys that feeling of winning at badminton again. The suicidal couple is an interesting bit. They move somewhere idyllic where no one knows them to attempt a double suicide. I think I can understand their motivations for doing it in the countryside rather than in the city where they lived, and even why in their new home rather than in the wild or in their car. It's a strange kind of consideration amidst their hopelessness. I assume that this is a commentary on the dire financial straits that some couples can fall into. The curry was both hilarious and thought-provoking as @bluepebblespointed out. I'm really looking forward to how their stories are revealed, but also how the team comes together. 3 1 Link to comment
bluepebbles
@mademoiselle interesting on your fam member who notices the form and posture of the actors during the tournament scenes. One badminton training center in Korea commends on episode 2 : 1. The overall appearance and atmosphere of the venue is very realistic, and the athletes who are playing games on the court with the whole shot clearly showed different strokes as if they were played as players instead of actors! 3. Still, like the ace among the main actors, I can feel that Tang Jun-sang, who plays Hae -gang, practiced badminton a lot and put in a lot of effort! The posture is the most active, and the moment-to-moment scenes produce scenes similar to those of the players! 4. In fact, it feels awkward in a match that is actually followed by a rally, but the wall-climbing training or jump smashing look just before hitting the ball is really synchronized with that of a player! 5. Personally, I wish the speed of badminton could be expressed more realistically!! Especially the smashing and clear shots make a great sound!! But when they fall on the opponent's court, they are parabolic and powerless~ 4 1 Link to comment

The first point (and screenshot) - those were real players. The way they receive or hit each shots and even the sound of the racquet hitting the shuttlecocks were real. When the shuttle is hit at the right spot on the racquet, the sound is loud and crisp. I can't really explain it but I know because I don't always hit at the right spot 1 hour ago, bluepebbles said: 5. Personally, I wish the speed of badminton could be expressed more realistically!! Interesting because fam member questioned if the shuttlecocks was CG because it didn't look real. The actors' posture are stiffer, they move slower and the hit are less powerful - which probably correlate to the badminton training centre saying the shuttlecock looks powerless. Also fam member pointed out that they are holding the badminton handle incorrectly (this I can't tell and never master due to small hands ). Supposedly we should be holding it like we hold a knife. 1 hour ago, bluepebbles said: I can feel that Tang Jun-sang, who plays Hae -gang, practiced badminton a lot and put in a lot of effort! It's telling because their foot work is there and their practice racquet swing was correct too. As for Joon Sang's jump smashes x 2, fam member was disappointed upon seeing it. I thought it was acceptable for the first one. The second jump smash is the one I think the angle and height are incorrect. It was too low so the shuttlecock would have hit the net or even under and not over. I think after two episodes, I'm going to watch it by myself. Fam member is making me notice more technical stuff than I need to . 4 Link to comment
bluepebbles
Some TMI about Lee Yong Dae He is featured in Yonex website: Quote CAREER Lee Yong Dae stands as a true badminton Legend, having been ranked world No. 1 for 117 consecutive weeks with doubles partner, Yoo Yeon Seong, from 2014 to 2016. He was also able to achieve world No. 1 with three other partners in both men's and mixed doubles. He announced his retirement in 2016 with his last tournament being the Korea Open. However, he returned to the courts in 2017 with a new partner. He also joined his fellow legeds, Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan, Peter Gade, and Taufik Hidayat for The Legends' Vision initiative to share their passion for badminton and inspire the next generation throughout the world. It will be awesome if he will have an actual meta-cameo in the drama. Hope he will recover soon tho--because in May he was tested positive for covid19. I guess he is doing fine, he just updated his IG yesterday 3 Link to comment

stroppyse
I like to watch badminton in the Olympics. They are fiercely competitive! I used to play a little badminton in college, but as a club sport, so it was much more about having fun and hanging out rather than killer competitive. Still, I understand what @mademoisellemeans about the sound when the racquet hits the shuttlecock at the right spot. I think the badminton in the drama is good enough that it adds to the flavor of the drama for most of the viewers anyway, even if not the hyper-technical fans. It's a lot better than a lot of sports movies I've watched where it's just not credible or it's clearly someone else doing all the actual sport scenes. Anyone watch today's episode yet? Any spoilers about the match that ended ep 2? I won't be able to relax and watch for many hours as yet. 3 Link to comment
