@IpohBanana @40somethingahjumma I don't think the kiss will be sizzling, but I still hope it is. They waited how many years to be together, they deserve a nice kiss. Haha!

@IpohBanana

Spoiler

I think there's still a possibility that the massacre will be the end of season one. If that happens, season two will open up with their separation. Maybe they will show CSS going through heartbreak and entering the palace. Then, there's probably LBY's redemption plus CSS getting engaged to YS too. I'm hoping they end season two with a marriage, but I'd be happy if it shows them living out CSS's dream of loving and being loved by someone of her equal.

Such a relationship would have my approval anyday except for the fact that there is no attraction between them.

HAHAHA! They seem more like friends, don't they? :lmao2:

@movingwheel Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi were in The Long Ballad together. They played in-laws (Wu Lei was paired with Dilireba and Zhao Lusi was paired with Liu Yuning).

@Tofu the way I understand it...

Spoiler

the massacre will be the cause for their separation and it will happen when the two are totally at the peak of their relationship, in love and thinking that everything is lovey-dovey. And of course, he has to cast the die and slaughter the family who killed his maternal clan.

It will also happen after he collabs with the 3rd prince to bring down the Crown Prince (who in a way asked for it), which will cause the Empress to retreat into the Cold Palace. LBY and CSS' engagement will be broken and CSS will ask to enter the Cold Palace with the Empress to serve her when she needs company the most. well, it's mutual, cause she's also nursing a heartbreak.

so with all that back story, I don't think it will happen in part 1. I suspect it will happen in part 2..but then again.... your guess is as good as mine. we'll see.

@Tofu Epis 15-16 totally confirmed that they are besties. I mean no spark of attraction at all even from Yao's side. They freely touch each other & there is like zero awareness between them. But you can always sense UST when CSS & LBY are in the same room even if they are not in close proximity of each other. Just a gaze or inane convo between them makes it seem that they are somehow connected.

Epi 15 was one of the most hilarious epis with the hilarious romance text reading. The way CSS was going on about it before Yao came, I thought she was seeing something explicit & it turned out to be so innocent...ha ha...

Then the epic gathering of the 3 suitors & 1 rejected fool who refuses to accept years old rejection still. Earlier I had doubts about third uncle-aunt pairing because of the hinted history between the aunt & teacher but turns out that aunt was the wronged party in every way & she still has confidence issues about her beauty & worth due to that loser. I am happy that she receives love & adoration from her husband now.

I think something similar is going to happen between CSS & Yao. It would be the case of Yao being too nice & not being able to turn away his ex-fiance maybe. Hence CSS would break up as he still has feelings toward the other girl.

General LBY is a very smitten man & has no shame in showing it. He confidently said he would save his fiance first if he had the difficult choice of saving only one person. He personally escorted Cheng family caravan when the city was barricaded. CSS's parents became aware of LBY's interest in CSS just by seeing them interact & no one could miss out on him making exception for her. Only CSS & Yao are naive enough to not understand it.

It was sad hearing CSS's reasons for accepting Yao's proposal. Her self worth is down in the dumps so she is ready to accept the 1st guy who is nice to her. Also she wants to get away from under her parents thumb more specifically her mother's. Though her mother has right reasons to reject the proposal neither CSS nor we can wholeheartedly agree with her because she just cannot communicate clearly. Instead of calmly explaining things she always resorts to belittling CSS which makes her even more stubborn about it.

I think the part 1 will probably end with the revenge  massacre. That would be the high note to end the season. I am unsure whether CSS-LBY will be engaged though in this part. Their feelings for each other may grow by the end of it. But I think in the novel they get engaged, break up as LBY gets banished & get back together when he returns. Let's see what the show chooses to do. It all depends on how well they can execute the development of CSS's feelings for LBY. Right now she is willfully ignoring anything that she senses wrt LBY.

Niaoniao's entire attitude to the marriage issue is little more than a form of late onset teenage rebellion. I think she's doubling down too because it was Yuanyi raised serious objections. I don't think Yuanyi handled it particularly well but I did notice that she did try to talk a lot more reasonably in Episode 16. In all honesty, A'Yao can barely stand on his own two feet and he really hasn't thought through the ramifications of marrying Niaoniao all that well. He looks like a boy and thinks like one. The very qualities that he admires her for having are also the very ones that will get her into trouble with the prim and proper types of the clan. He's very naive and regarding this issue, so is she. In fact, she's being absolutely silly because she knows what it's like to live with disapproving in-laws. She's witnessed it firsthand so for her to suddenly throw caution to the wind just because a guy is treating her like a queen shows how bad things are between her and Yuanyi (mother). It seems to me that this whole marriage issue is really a reaction against long-term neglect and bad parenting.

Okay A'Yao has grown a little since the Hua County incident. They've both had a little taste of war and now they think they know what they want. I am and have been very uncomfortable with A'Yao's behaviour from the first. Some girls might find it charming but I find it off-putting when a guy crosses so many lines and takes liberties. It just so happens that Niaoniao is in a particular frame of mind where she's very open to compliments and effusive praise that she's buying into this fantasy that things will be as good in the future as it is now. No one can be sure, least of all her.  A'Yao is still wet behind the ears and barely out of boyhood. Certainly compared to Ling Buyi who is careful, strategic and a lot smarter. Plus the guy is on a rebound.

Niaoniao's justification for being adamant that she has to grab the first guy that asks because she's unlucky and unlikely to have more opportunities is the most irrational thing she's ever said so far in the show particularly when Ling Buyi has very publicly shown his interest in her in front of her parents. But it does reinforce the fact that it's basically about her giving the adults in her life the middle finger.

The dinner scene which features Huangfu Yi, the three suitors and Niaoniao is quite a fascinating one because again it reveals A'Yao and Niaoniao's cloying idealism as well as Ling Buyi's more logical pragmatic approach to life. I think it's quite a compelling story about how various people see love and use it as a justification for all kinds of good/bad/indifferent behaviour. I'm really struck by Ling Buyi's razor sharp intellect and perceptiveness. He is a man who feels much more than he lets on. Still waters run deep with this one. Yet he's also a sharply logical which is refreshing.

To me A'Yao did everything wrong and Ling Buyi did everything right with regards to Niaoniao. A'Yao (not intentionally maliciously) took advantage of Niaoniao at a very low vulnerable moment in her life and rushed matters. Ling Buyi, on the other hand, was willing to give her time to get over her loss and grief. That's why Ling Buyi is really angry with A'Yao not just for snatching the girl away from his grasp but for his unseemly haste in wanting to marry her without knowing their entire story. Niaoniao implies that Ling Buyi took his own sweet time but really it was A'Yao who acted too hastily.

@Tofuand @IpohBanana

The kiss that I saw wasn't calculated to raise the temperature in the room but at least we're getting at least one kiss scene.

@40somethingahjumma lol, I like the way you described it 'giving the middle finger'. Can't watch the video you posted, though, geographical ban.

To me, I saw it as what CSS perceived to be an opportunity for independence and to free herself from the clasp of her family (mother). She thinks that she can finally be an adult and live her own life, based on her own ideals. For a female from that century, that's just being blindly optimistic, more so as her husband-to-be doesn't wield any political power and personality-wise is too meek. Marrying someone like him may seem ideal in the beginning (he's sweet, runs at her beck and call and panders to her fancies), but she will certainly find that the gap to be bridged between the two of them is just too big. He will end up being a carpet and she'll resent him for it.

Well, the author and scriptwriter have certainly sharply contrasted LBY to LY to the point where it's glaringly obvious. One is a general who has seen through (probably) every kind of deception, vice and evil that mankind is capable of, while the other as you put it is 'wet behind the ears'. It's not an apple to apple comparison, their experiences have been vastly different.

I've finally seen the trailer for E23-24 and @Tofu I don't think that scene is going to happen by E27. Unless the director and scriptwriter really speed things up in 3 episodes.

Wow this is officially the first time for cdrama am ahead with the trailers and tuned to episodes. Look forward to next week.

I don’t expect to see CSS and LB relationship in Part 1. Not even expecting a kiss. I think the first part is more focused on CSS finding her strengths  and dealing with those biases around her.

CSS will go through broken engagement with Yao.  She also ends up in the palace.  If LB is at war taking care of the traitor.  how would they have time to build a relationship?  I have seen the trailers of him falling off the cliff. but I still don’t think they are in an relationship at that point.  I would love to be wrong.  there is just little imagination with so many previews for episodes coming out.

Nevertheless I really am enjoying this drama.  It’s has its humor moments too.  I find myself often laughing here and there.  I think this why it’s so high rated. Can be serious at times but room to laugh.

Ep24 Preview

I love that everyone is watching even @mademoiselle who normally watches K-Dramas! I met up with my BFF today for dinner and I was talking to her about Love Like the Galaxy. I asked her what episode she's on and she told me episode 18. I just picked her up right after she finished work so I turned to her and asked how she's on episode 18 already (it just came out today!). Apparently, she worked from home so she spent a good portion of her day watching episode 17 and 18! Later, I was talking about the previews and she informed me she already watched the previews for episode 23 and 24. :lmao2:

I am up to eps 9 and yet to back read but is Wu Lei the ML here in this show?  He's screen time is quite minimal. It's true that I am watching this mainly for WuLei and I feel like the 2nd ML has even more interactions with SS.

Someone spoil me ...when do things take off? Romance wise...

@movingwheel if you read my earlier post, I mentioned that this week would be sh*** because they only show it 3 days a week (Tues-Thur). They only aired Tuesday - Saturday for the very first week. So, it will be 3 days a week (2 eps per day for VIP), ending on 27 July, with Episode 27. What @Yana saw is for non-VIP, which means one episode per day.

@abs-oluteM I honestly can't tell when it becomes a two-way affair. For now, even based on the trailers up to E24, it looks like LBY is the way expressing how he feels from his actions and words. She is still holding back.

This show doesn't really follow the usual rom com trajectory. There is no such thing as a second male lead per se. It's more of a growing up story where the FL has many different kind of experiences with all sorts of people until she reaches her happily-ever-after. Niaoniao has 3 main suitors so she will have different kinds of dynamics with each of them and go through the university of hard knocks in the meantime.

It's possible to say that she doesn't really even know what she wants at this point or what's good for her.

Found book summary   I can understand the puzzles of previews now.  I hope Part 2 comes out immediately…. Can’t be leaving me hanging dry after all these spoilers.

Spoiler

Cheng Shao Shang got engaged three times in total. The first time was with Lou Yao, the 2nd son of an aristocratic family, but later for the sake of the family and the country, Cheng Shao Shang chose to break off the engagement with Lou Yao, letting him marry He Zhao Jun, whose family sacrificed their lives for the country. They ended up with a happy family.

The second engagement was with Ling Bu Yi. He was attracted to Cheng Shao Shang for a long time, so he requested the emperor to grant him the right to marry Cheng Shao Shang. But in view of Cheng Shao Shang’s “unpolished manner”, the emperor planned to get the queen to educate her for a period of time before the two can get married. During this time, those troublesome girls who like Ling Bu Yi but dislike Cheng Shao Sang tried many times to set some traps for her but failed to do so. Under the guidance of the queen, Cheng Shao Shang became more mature and thoughtful, a person who the queen can trust. With her growth, she and Ling Bu Yi still could not end up together. (I suspect this will be the end of part 1 of the drama)

A few days before the wedding, Ling Bu Yi found out that his so-called father was actually his uncle, who caused the demise of his family. His so-called mum was actually his aunt who switched her own son with Ling Bu Yi to save him, then became crazy. Thus he went beserk & chose the wrong way to take his bloody revenge. In order to save his life, Cheng Shao Shang dobbed him in to prevent the deterioration of the situation. She also pleaded for his life. As punishment, the emperor sent Ling Bu Yi to the frontier and withdrew his marriage decree.

Cheng Shao Shang was heartbroken and never saw Ling Bu Yi again. Later, under Yuan Shen’s frantic pursuit, Cheng Shao Shang chose to be betrothed to him in order to forget Ling Bu Yi. But in Cheng Shao Shang’s heart, she never forgot Ling Bu Yi. While in exile, Ling Bu Yi started to use his actual surname Huo. He also kept tab on Cheng Shao Shang and protected her from afar.

Five years later and being victorious in war, Ling Bu Yi returned and disrupted Cheng Shao Shang’s life once again. He told Yuan Shen to break off his engagement to Cheng Shao Shang but he refused. Until Yuan Shen found out that Ling Bu Yi helped his family and he also found out the depth of Ling Bu Yi and Cheng Shao Shang’s love for each other. Hence the engagement was broken. Then, Ling Bu Yi gave chase until Cheng Shao Shang was willing to reconcile with him, so they finally have their happy ending.
