Earlier this month, Bangtan Sonyeondan Jimin made history with his solo debut album “Face” by becoming the first K-pop soloist ever to top Billboard’s Hot 100 and Artist 100, as well as the first to enter the top 2 of the Billboard 200.

U.S. media outlet 'Complex' announced the '30 Best Songs of the first half of 2023' which included Bangtan Sonyeondan J-Hope's solo track 'On the Street (feat. J. Cole).'

The article complimented J-Hope for a trendy collaboration by saying, "Talented artists J-Hope, a K-pop star and rap legend J. Cole used their exceptional storytelling abilities to bridge cultural differences."

Following this, 'LA Times' unveiled the list of the Bangtan Sonyeondan Suga 'Top 40 Best Songs of the first half of 2023.' Agust D's track 'Haegeum' from his solo album titled 'D-Day', featured on the list.

Online magazine 'Consequence' pointed out that 'D-Day' is Agust D's final reveal in his trilogy series under Suga's solo name 'Agust D.' 

Bangtan Sonyeondan Jimin is also of hot topic. 'Rolling Stone' selected Jimin's first solo album 'Face' and the album's title track 'Like Crazy' as their "Best Album" and "Best Song" of the first half year of 2023, respectively.

'Rolling Stone' explained, "Jimin has often appeared as the Bangtan Sonyeondan member closest to classic R&B musically. This single gives a dreamlike feeling and captures the essence." US Billboard listed Jimin's album and song in their rankings of "The 50 Best Songs of 2023"

Billboard highly praised the track by saying, "The K-pop phenomenon in the U.S. has been dominated by groups. Jimin made history as the first Korean solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart."

More recently, on June 22nd, Bangtan Sonyeondan took first place trophy with their 10th anniversary celebratory digital single 'Take Two' on Mnet's 'M Countdown.'

Lee Ji Eun, popularly known by her stage name IU, and actor Lee Joon Gi are often making headlines for the way they encourage each other on their individual projects. IU sent a coffee cart to her friend Joon Gi last shooting location, showing her support for his upcoming drama Arthdal Chronicles 2.

She also included a sweet message, which is an acrostic poem of the actor's name, on the banners of the cart. IU and Lee Joon Gi featured as leads in SBS’ period drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, in 2016, and have since been friends. Over the years, the two stars have continued to remain close.

On the June 22nd episode of M Countdown, BTS' "Take Two" and Stray Kids' "S-Class" were nominated for first place. Eventually, BTS whose known as Bangtan Sonyeondan was named the winner of the episode after gaining 7500 points, earning their first music show win for "Take Two."

This music show win is even more special because "Take Two" is a fan song released by Bangtan Sonyeondan last June 9th in celebration of the group's 10th debut anniversary.

Bangtan Sonyeondan placed its digital single “Take Two” on Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 48.

The single was dropped on June 9 in time to mark the 10th anniversary of debut for the superband. It also landed atop a series of other charts including Billboard 200 and Billboard Global excl. the US.

The last time the septet hit the main albums chart as a group was a year ago when “Yet To Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)” debuted on it at No. 13. The song fronted its anthology album “Proof.” The album not only topped Billboard 200 but stayed on it for 41 weeks in a row.

Meanwhile, all seven members made Billboard’s Hot 100 on their own, another record in K-pop history. In April, Jimin became the first K-pop solo artist to top the chart with “Like Crazy,” main track from EP “Face.”

The hit filmmaker who helmed “Veteran” (2015) and “Escape From Mogadishu” (2021) returns with the star-studded female-led action film “Smugglers.”

Set in a peaceful seaside village in the 1970s, the crime action film revolves around an accident in front of "haenyeo," female divers who collect seafood from the ocean floor. Kim Hye Soo, Yum Jung Ah, Zo In Sung, Park Jung Min, Kim Jong Soo and Go Min Si act in the film.

Actresses Kim Hye Soo and Yum Jung Ha had to overcome their fear of the water while shooting the film. Most of the scenes were shot inside a 6-meter-deep water tank.

“I didn’t know that I panic when I see water. Maybe it was after shooting 'The Thieves' (2012) when I was locked in a submerged car in handcuffs. So it took me a while to get familiar with underwater shooting,” Kim said during a press conference at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University on Tuesday.

Prior to the underwater and seaside shooting, the actors trained for about three months.

Yum said she did not like going into the water before.

“I don’t like the water but after hearing that Kim would star, I was more than happy. Having wrapped up the shooting, I really miss all of our cast” said Yum, who appears as the leader of women divers.

Director Ryoo Seung Wan said although the film is led by two female characters, it’s more about a team.

“From the planning stage, I had Kim Hye Soo and Yum Jung Ah on top of the list. It’s something that I cannot explain in words, but for me, they were irreplaceable actors for this movie,” Ryoo told reporters, joking that Zo In Sung and Park Jung Min were cast as he was looking for actors who were not busy.

“Unlike TV dramas or streaming content, there have not been many female-led films. When I received the director’s suggestion for this project, I was thankful that this kind of film was planned and I got the role. I also appreciate Zo and Park for adding good energy to our film,” Kim said.

She added that even if she had not starred in the film, the fact that director Ryoo, who has effectively communicated with the audience previously, has returned with female-led film would have heighted her anticipation to see it.

Zo, who also appeared in Ryoo’s “Escape From Mogadishu,” said he mastered the action sequences this time for greater impact and higher quality. Zo stars as Kwon, who collaborates with Cho (Kim Hye Soo) to find a new smuggling route.

“Compared to ‘Mogadishu’ where my action was more improvisation, I tried to do action this time under Ryoo’s detailed direction and get confirmation from him,” Zo told reporters.

“Smugglers” opens in local theaters July 26.
