The global super group Bangtan Sonyeondan, which gives a turning point in the K-pop world in various aspects such as messages as well as records on global charts such as the US Billboard are overflowing.

'Dynamite', which topped the US Billboard's main single chart 'Hot 100' for the first time as a Korean singer, was nominated 8 times, the most. It is a song that is hard to ignore because it is an 'official record' that changed K-pop history with actual chart performance. 'I Need You', which became a turning point in Bangtan Sonyeondan domestic career, was nominated 6 times. 'Spring Day', a popular hit song loved by Korean Army, and 'Blood, Sweat & Tears', which gave aesthetic and philosophical achievement to K-pop, were named 5 times each.

Bangtan Sonyeondan music video for their hit single "Dynamite" has exceeded a whopping 1.7 billion views on YouTube. Released on August 21, 2020, as the band's first full English-language single, the video reached the mark two years and nine months later.

Jimin, a member of the globally acclaimed K-pop group Bangtan Sonyeondan and a star in his own right, makes a mark on Billboard's Hot R&B Hip-Hop Songs chart this week. As he secures his first appearance on the chart, he also resets the record for the third-highest-charting track by a South Korean musician.

Jimin's collaborative piece, 'Angel Pt.1', with artists NLE Choppa, JVKE, Kodak Black and Muni Long, made a stellar entrance on the Hot 100 chart, boasting the week's highest sales score, as it clinched the No 1 spot on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart. The track's success can be attributed in large part to its substantial sales figures, as the chart takes into account various forms of consumption, including purchases, streams, and radio play. The single's performance exceeded expectations in terms of fan purchases, mitigating the need for exceptional streaming numbers or significant radio support.

Jungkook of Bangtan Sonyeondan may drop a solo album in July, local media outlet Sports Chosun reported on Sunday.

Sports Chosun's exclusive report reported that Jungkook is gearing up to release his first solo album on July 14 and that the album will include an English song.

    2023060501000241000029481-20230604084301

Bangtan Sonyeondan agency Big Hit Music told Korean media that it will announce Jungkook's solo debut "once plans are confirmed."

Jungkook will be the sixth member from Bangtan Sonyeondan to come out solo, following J-Hope, Jin, RM, Jimin and Suga. Last June, the septet officially announced a hiatus on group activities to focus on individual projects.

While the upcoming album will mark the Jungkook's first official debut, the 25-year-old singer already holds significant achievements as a solo artist.

In November last year, Jungkook sang the official soundtrack song for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, "Dreamers," becoming the first South Korean to release a World Cup song. He also performed the song live at the opening ceremony that took place in Qatar.

In June 2022, Jungkook was featured in American pop musician Charlie Puth's hit single "Left & Right," dropping his first project outside of his group. The song was named among Billboard's 17 biggest collaborations of 2022. The song debuted at No. 22 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart and remained on the chart for 17 weeks straight.

Jungkook made his first solo Hot 100 debut in February 2022 with his song "Stay Alive," a soundtrack for "7 Fates: Chakho," a webtoon series featuring Bangtan Sonyeondan members. Produced by Bangtan Sonyeondan Suga and vocalized by Jungkook, the single peaked at No. 95 on the Billboard singles chart.

With the three songs, Jungkook in May set a Guinness World Record by amassing a billion accumulated streams on Spotify in the shortest time for a K-pop male solo artist.

Other than the two official releases, Jungkook also unveiled solo songs "Still With You" in 2020 and "My You" in 2022 via SoundCloud.

Meanwhile, Bangtan Sonyeondan recently kicked off "Bangtan Sonyeondan Festa," an annual event to celebrate its debut anniversary on June 13. This year, marking the band's milestone decadelong career, the event was launched in collaboration with the Seoul city government and will take place both online and on-site around the city.

Bangtan Sonyeondan which celebrates its 10th anniversary on June 13, has grown from a lesser-known hip-hop idol group to the most successful K-pop band, breaking numerous records in K-pop history along the way.

Initially launched as a band under Big Hit Entertainment, a smaller K-pop label that later transformed into Hybe, the group encountered considerable challenges in capturing the attention of its fan-base within the fiercely competitive idol music industry.

But with its strong rebellious image, the septet gradually built a fan-base, captivating them with music that resonated with the younger generation, dazzling stage performances and a friendly style of communication.

And then a passionate and cohesive fandom called "Army" was established. As this fandom grew tremendously, Bangtan Sonyeondan  began to make a name for itself in the mainstream pop market, churning out back-to-back hits, such as "I Need U," "Fire," "Blood, Sweat & Tears" and "Spring Day.

Especially since 2020, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Bangtan Sonyeondan has continuously achieved unprecedented records in K-pop history.

The band's fourth full-length album, "Map of the Soul: 7," released in February of that year, sold over 4 million copies and topped the album charts in the world's top five music markets: the United States, Japan, Britain, Germany and France.

The English songs "Dynamite" and "Butter" reached the pinnacle of the highly coveted US Billboard Hot 100 chart. With the feat, the members of Bangtan Sonyeondan solidified their position as the top pop stars in the world, shattering the prejudice that K-pop cannot appeal to the Western market.

They became the first K-pop act to be nominated for the Grammy Awards and won Artist of the Year, which is considered the top honor, at the 2021 American Music Awards. The AMAs are one of the three biggest music awards in the US.

The group's performance at the Grammy Awards, where the members whispered to global pop star Olivia Rodrigo, and the commemorative photoshoots with top stars, like John Batiste, Lady Gaga, John Legend and Megan Thee Stallion, showcased its status.

Furthermore, Bangtan Sonyeondan left a distinct mark on popular culture with a wide range of activities, including a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, receiving the Order of Cultural Merit from the South Korean government, holding solo concerts at Wembley Stadium in Britain and SoFi Stadium in the US, and visiting the White House.

Experts evaluate that Bangtan Sonyeondan  success has opened the way for K-pop to be embraced in the global market.

Kim Jin Woo, head researcher of Circle Chart, which reports accumulated sales and streams, said, "I have often heard that other agencies found it easier to expand overseas, as  Bangtan Sonyeondan paved the way in the global market."

He added the group can be said to have played a leading role in the global expansion of K-pop.

After dropping the anthology album "Proof" in June last year and holding a concert in Busan in October to support the city's bid to host 2030 World Expo, the band began a hiatus from group activities to pursue solo projects.

The oldest member, Jin, joined the military to fulfill his two years of mandatory service in December, followed by another member, J-Hope, in April this year. Their agency has said other members will also enlist sequentially.

Bangtan Sonyeondan members achieved remarkable success in their solo endeavors as well, including Jimin claiming No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a solo track and Jungkook's performance of a song from the official soundtrack for the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the event's opening ceremony in Qatar. Suga had a world tour to promote his first official solo album, while RM and V appeared on TV variety shows in their home country.

Music producer Pdogg, the creative force behind Bangtan Sonyeondan chart-topping hits, is confident about the group's ability to continue captivating worldwide fans with their profound messages even when they return as a whole group in the future.

"When the members regroup, most members will be in their 30s. Please anticipate the perspectives on the world that these members will bring in the second chapter of their career," Pdogg said during a recent interview with Korean media to mark the group's 10th anniversary.

The K-pop septet announced a year ago they would be taking a hiatus to pursue solo projects out of the group. Their agency later said Bangtan Sonyeondan can be reunited as a full group in 2025 after all the members complete their mandatory military service.

Pdogg showed strong conviction that the members will each work on improving their weaknesses and continue to grow during the team's hiatus.

As an integral part of Bangtan Sonyeondan success story, the producer, whose original Korean name is Kang Hyo Won, has produced an array of the group's most successful tracks, starting with their debut song, "No More Dream," and culminating with last year's highly acclaimed release, "Yet To Come."

He was awarded the top prize of the Korean Music Copyright Association's annual copyright awards for five consecutive years since 2019 for making the highest earnings from song royalties, in tandem with Bangtan Sonyeondan meteoric rise to global stardom.

Pdogg expressed his affection for the group, calling them his "musical companions." "I'm in a sort of mutually complementary relationship with them of conveying their messages to the public through my role as a producer."

Throughout the interview, Pdogg described Bangtan Sonyeondan or Bulletproof Boy Scouts in Korean as a group that frankly expresses their own narratives and candidly reflects the times.

"This approach probably has contributed to forging a connection with people across the globe," he said of the secret behind the group's resounding success.

Bangtan Sonyeondan, which made their debut as a hip-hop idol group in 2013, initially focused on conveying messages from rebellious teenagers. Their early songs had a distinct flavor, setting them apart from the familiar chart-topping hits.

While Bangtan Sonyeondan successfully left an indelible mark on K-pop fans with their impactful messages, as Pdogg mentioned, their ascent to the top echelons of the industry took place much later.

It was with the release of the "The Most Beautiful Moment in Life" album series that they truly soared. And Bangtan Sonyeondan eventually cemented their status as a global phenomenon with the "Love Yourself" and "Map of the Soul" series. He added the tremendous success of "Dynamite," an upbeat English-language disco-pop tune, broadened the horizons of the band's music.

"While they started as a hip-hop idol group, they have now made their mark as a global pop band, leaving an indelible impression on music fans worldwide."

Bangtan Sonyeondan members have engaged in solo projects since the release of the anthology album "Proof" last year. Pdogg has recently composed some of the members' solo tracks. "I felt that solo projects are helpful to the artist's development," he said.

While the members might want to take a rest ahead of their enlistment, their musical enthusiasm is even stronger, he said, adding he finds this aspect admirable.

"Around the time of our debut in 2013, Bangtan Sonyeondan RM and Suga were the members with clear individual colors, while the others felt rather incomplete. Hence, their identities became clearer as they engaged in music activities and they each found their own colors. This why I highly think of the team Bangtan Sonyeondan" he said.
