    Ep.10

    - Urgh, Deok Ro is jealous. Although what he said are valid. He is a very practical person. Obviously never been in love, not knowing that boy-girl love is just different from appreciation of

    - How dare Deok Ro look down on San's affection for Deok Im by suggesting that he indulge himself in it and the passion will be gone?

But San is somekind of guilty of thinking the same. In episode 4 when he told DI "i only notice you today cause it is your first day, but if you are always next to me someday i will see you no more. As you are only a court lady out of many and of no consequence"

But then our boy fell hard. He ate his own words.

And here we are with a king who pines for his courtlady, and the with courtlady herself who tries to wiggle out of his proposalz and rejecting all things alike, tangerines ans feelings...!

Agreed. Wonder what is the rush.  They can always air Tracer week later.

I was really confused when they said Tracer will air on Jan7. I think tracer is not really an MBC to start with, right? Like they only announced tracer under MBC about 2 weeks ago. And this drama is mainly a wavve produced/streamed drama. I dont get how they are willing to accomodate wavve this much at the expense of TRS. I mean I am big fan of Siwan, Go Ahsung and Son Hyonju, but it really feels weird how they could not just moce tracer's premier a week after. They did it so easily for TRS....!!!

I really hope this rushing wont affect negatively TRS...

@Mizv @czakhareina I wish they won't rush all the episodes- 3 this weekend! This is Christmas weekend ( I won't be able to live stream since I will be celebrating) and I am sure a lot of folks will be busy in SK too . Will it affect ratings ? I am concerned only bc I would love to see Jun Ho dance. LOL

I think most Kfans are pretty much worried about that. I think @suhodorable posted in twitter about the petitions regarding scrapping the 2-episode airing, especially sincs they are airing it deep into the night. And that would definitely affecr rhe ratings...

I do hope it doesn't cause if it does, it feels like MBC is shooting themselves on the foot, which seems stupud given that this is their most successful drama in 2 years....

I do hope that the audeince is invested enough after 12 episodes to see through the drama on the love story of San and deokIm.

  11. 2PM’s Lee Junho And Lee Se Young Keep The Mood Lighthearted While Filming Their Emotional Confession Scene In “The Red Sleeve”

    Dec 23, 2021 | by S. Cho

MBC has shared a behind-the-scenes look at Episodes 11 and 12 of “The Red Sleeve”!

“The Red Sleeve” is a historical drama about the imperial romance between crown prince Yi San (played by Lee Junho), who later becomes emperor, and the strong-willed court lady Seong Deok Im (played by Lee Se Young).

The making-of clip starts with Lee Se Young practicing her lines and adorably imitating a puppy. Soon after, the puppy they’re working with arrives, and both Lee Se Young and Junho have lots of fun showering it with affection. Lee Se Young comments, “I can film for another 12 hours today.”

Later, Junho is preparing a serious scene with Lee Deok Hwa. He meticulously runs over each line and movement with the director before giving his all in rehearsals, impressing the crew with his immersion into the scene. As they continue with filming, Lee Deok Hwa recites his lines perfectly in one take, earning applause from everyone on set.

Lee Se Young, Jang Hee Jin, and Seo Hyo Rim gather around Lee Deok Hwa’s script and explore all the comments he’s written on the sides. The trio jokes around as Seo Hyo Rim tells Lee Se Young, “I’ll give you San.” Lee Se Young explains to Jang Hee Jin, “I like the princess. She says she will give me the crown prince.” Jang Hee Jin mishears and hilariously asks, “The King?” Once they notice Lee Deok Hwa has returned, they quickly scurry away from his script, leaving the actor confused.

In the evening, Junho gets ready for the scene where he confesses to Lee Se Young. He discusses with the director how to elevate the scene and jokes, “Deok Im will then just make an outstanding facial expression.”

Junho comments, “This is the scene of ‘I want to become family.’ It’s a confession,” before adding in English, “Propose.” He continues, “I was nervous. She wiped my mouth and put dried ginger in my mouth.” Lee Se Young shares, “First off, I’m really nervous. I also feel excited, flustered, and awkward.” In between takes, the duo keep the atmosphere light as they make jokes with the props and poke fun at one another.

Lee Se Young adds, “Apart from everything else, it would’ve been great if he were just a regular guy [and not the King]. The King is someone who cannot drop everything just for me. I have a line like this: ‘If you give someone everything, you will want to receive everything from them.’ But the King is someone who cannot do that.”

here is an interesting read with how historical dramas are produced/written now, and historian and international fans views on it:

Historical K-dramas have some questioning what's fact and what's fiction

    Spoiler

    - Omitted some unrelated parts -

Currently-airing series "Secret Royal Inspector & Joy" on tvN and "Moonshine" on KBS are both set in the Joseon era but do not feature any real historical figures. And while MBC's "The Red Sleeve" does center around King Jeongjo (1752-1800) of Joseon and his concubine, it focuses on their highly-romanticized personal relationship rather than history.
Separate from their commercial success, domestic viewers largely consider such shows to simply be K-dramas in traditional costumes, not actual historical shows. Although period dramas with fictional elements have always been popular in Korea, the trend has been made more prominent as authentic historical dramas have declined in popularity and become few and far between over the years.
Especially because historical K-dramas are growing popular abroad, some express concerns about whether they really represent Korean history.

"I know there's such thing as artistic license, but I can't help but feel a little skeptical as a historian," said Ban Byung-yool, an emeritus professor of history at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. "When 'historical' dramas only deal with fictional characters and events, I fear that viewers may not take authentic history seriously or think of actual historic events as unimportant.
"I believe the purpose of a historical drama is to convey lessons from the past," he continued. "Even if certain historical figures lived centuries ago, the tribulations they went through are still quite universal and relatable. Their true stories can give messages that transcend time. But if everything is fiction, viewers are only left with romance and costumes. That's the side effect of prioritizing entertainment over history."
Professor Ban was also wary of misinformation.
"I'm not saying TV shows must be strictly factual like academic papers, but there needs to be a certain level of historical accuracy," he said. "If a show is set in the 1800s but characters behave like it's the modern times, that's anachronism. I doubt such highly fictional shows will make either domestic or foreign viewers interested in actual Korean history, and some might even take historical inaccuracies as the truth."

On the other hand, Professor Park Chan-seung of Hanyang University's Department of History had a different view on the role of period dramas.
"I expect historical dramas to promote Korean [traditional] culture rather than history," he said. "In that sense, even fictionalized historical dramas are meaningful. Complete fiction may actually be better to avoid distorting history or receiving complaints from descendants of real historical figures, which has happened quite often when they were portrayed negatively in a series. Fictional characters give screenwriters much more creative freedom."
Park also pointed out that fictional period dramas are a trend worldwide.
"We're seeing this phenomenon in Japan and the West as well," he said referring to the Netflix series "Bridgerton" (2020-). "There's no rule that historical dramas must adhere to authentic history, which tends to be too serious and unexciting. The time period can simply set the premise for an interesting story to play out."

“The Red Sleeve” reportedly to film its last scene today (Dec 21st)

MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “The Red Sleeve”, which has recently become very popular among viewers, is coming to an end.

On Dec 21st, OSEN reported that “The Red Sleeve” will start filming its last shoot on the same day. According to the article, the drama will begin shooting its last scene from the afternoon of Dec 21st. As such, the filming is going to complete its seven-month journey.

As it is the last shoot, it is known that both Lee Jun-ho and Lee Se-young, who took the lead roles, will participate. The novel of the same name has a sad ending, but people are wondering how the drama’s ending will be as “The Red Sleeve” has been receiving a lot of love lately. “The Red Sleeve” tells the record of a royal court romance between the King of Joseon who believes his duty is to his country first above love, and a court lady who wants to protect the life she has chosen.

Meanwhile, the drama first aired on Nov 12th with a viewership rating of 5.7% (based on Nielsen Korea’s national standard) and recorded 13.3% in episode 12.

By the way does Deok Im seem sad now that he has ascended? She seems less cheerful?

    She does.

But I think it was really naïve of her to think that everything will stay the same. Even Boknyeo left the palace, so the 3 years with San ascending must have thrown them some definite changes in their life. Much like how it is with adulting in our modern times.

Though personally it is more pronounced when it comes when she is in the presence of the King.

I think they can't be go back to the time that she can easily joke around with him or laugh.

He is King now, and protocols would probably be rigidly followed. I think San would have probably changed first in his interaction with her, mainly because any and all of his action would be highly scrutinized. Plus the responsibilities would have been so heavy for him, as can be seen as foreshadowing withKing Yeongjo's advise to him over the years, as well as his monologue as he started to sit on the dragon chair for the first time

and with that, I think DeokIm also started to follow protocol, and also distanced and proper. and also sad.
