  1. I understand that. I can also see a lot of people relating to it. And I know a lot of people who had to make those kinds of sacrifices. I also know what toil it takes an a person who has to make that kind of sacrifice. The burden it carries. It’s a good story that can spark this much debate. I guess I just optimistically wish anyone who has to make sacrifices to have better options.
  2. @SnT I am being logical. I don’t feel that Shiyi removing herself from the Embroidery business is going to help the family. Nor do I think it’s the business that is harming the family. Because their enemies are out to get them. They will find something else to use. They have spies in the house. They have people actively scheming everywhere. Every time Houye steps into court their is a plot. The rice fiasco had nothing to do with embroidery. Neither was the death of Shiyi’s mom, sister, or the plot to poison a child. In the latest 6 episode the when the boy goes missing or the maid is trapped, those things aren’t caused by Shiyi’s embroidery. The concubines didn’t want Shiyi in the house. So they plot to get her out. The Ou don’t like the Xu’s request to lift the ban so they try to ruin the family pretty much anyway they can. It seems like it would be simplier if Shiyi could give the embroidery shop, and maybe she will, but I am say it’s not going to solve the real problems. Anyways, we can just disagree. I mean it real life it’s not an easy choice nor is it a fair one. Also I can’t speak to Malaysian politics, but I can say at least Prince Phillip chose to marry Queen Elizabeth. Shiyi did not get the privilege to choose who to marry.
  3. I think that if you limit the solution to just two options it’s just a little sad. I’ve caught up to the episodes. It feels like many people agree with Madam Xu. Who is worried about her family name and her family feud with the Ou. The real issue had little to do with the embroidery shop. It’s just what the enemies know is Shiyi’s weakness, or at least that’s what they think it is. This is about the private bann. It’s also about money and winning the king’s favour. The real threat here is the concubines that Madame Xu brought into the family, and the Ou’s. It’s about two families who have been at odds with one another for two generations. If they want to save the family from danger they should root out the real problems. Instead of what Madame Xu always does with is make Shiyi take the blame. The poor girl has bailed out the family and rooted out their spies. And the old woman still can’t give her a break. And neither can the audience it seems. The Xu’s women’s real objection is that the SML is a partner in the embroidery shop, and I do understand that. But he’s not the threat. And both Shiyi and Houye, don’t think he is. But what they feel doesn’t seem to matter. By episode 42 Shiyi’s selfish desires to keep the “hobby” helps bring down their enemy. Still, the entire family had to convince the Old Madam that she was wrong in her old fashion thinking. I understand there comes a time when people have to give up what they love for someone they love. And for many, it seemed like Shiyi should to do that. But she found a way where she didn’t have to. And she found a husband who supported her. It’s a romance. In reality Shiyi would have no choice. I just wanted us to think of more options than simply give up a place she loved for the good of the family. Because if you think about it, it’s the family that’s been really selfish.
  4. Thank you. I had no idea. I just always wondered. So money let’s you have more children. Well that’s true in the west too. In a way. I feel bad for second children from poor families. I admit the whole system feels foreign.
  5. I’m not caught up yet. But as a career woman I’m uncomfortable with the simple assumption that Shiyi must give up her passion/career for her family. It’s not really her shop is causing the issues. Forgive me but isn’t it the Ou family? Or all those people scheming? The embroidery is just a vehicle for plot. Of course people do make sacrifices for their family. But it’s annoying that it has to be the women. And the general assumption is it should be the woman. We should all be rooting for her to find a way to be able to support her family and keep her career. I’ve always had issues with Madam Xu. But we can’t pick his mother nor can we pick the mother-in-law. Poor Houye.
  6. I’ve watched it. I think Sun Yi and Wallace have a nice chemistry. But it’s very long, and very antsy. I really like it but I only watch the scenes of them together. I found the rest annoying.
  7. she is but also a bit annoying. I watched her on that drama with Steven and definitely suited the character. Although the Japanese original Nadame’s Canto was better.
  8. The actress with Bai Ting is very competitive. I was surprised.
  9. I might rewatch it now. I need something to keep me distracting waiting for new episodes.
  10. I didn't like Vic's hair on The Flame's Daughter but I thought he was charming. TSY on the chair reciting the poem, when her brother confesses to her will be my all time favourite scenes. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. Love Go Ahead. Almost too much. I feel it ruin me from future CDramas. I was really struggling to find another show to watch after it ended.
  11. I've only seen him in Flame's Daughter. I haven't seen the Taiwanese version of Meteor Garden.
  12. In interviews she said she wanted to play someone married. She has not played a married person before. I didn't realise it but this is probably her first TV wedding. She's been engaged on shows before but not to the alter. I think there has been a calm before the storm aspect in her acting: Fox's Summer, Under the Power, and the Eight. But she's always been an outgoing character so I think it's great she's so restrained here. I didn't watch the last drama, Dear Mayan Street because it was slow to be subbed, and I know the ending. But she might have been more mature in that role too. I actually like Vic more than Liu Tao. I am sure she is a great actress, but I haven't really gotten attached to her characters. The only drama of hers I like was Ode to Joy. I couldn't finished Nirvana on Fire. I know that's much beloved...sometimes dramas are really well executed but too stressful to watch.
  13. lol. It’s mostly overt speech and eye contact. They hug and comfort each other. it’s feels like skin ship because they act more intimate but it’s in the eyes and the fan he uses. Compared to regular romance there isn’t much but to the Untamed there is definitely more.
  14. WOH is more overt than the Untamed. I like it. If anyone is interested. It's a fun watch very different energy than Sword and the Brocade.
  15. You guys should try and find BTS of the scene of when Houye gets administered by his wife after the knife wound. I believe the shirt was more exposed than in the show. We saw more of his chest. lol we replied about the same scene at almost the same time.
  16. Does anyone wonder how tall the shoes TSY must be wearing? She's a head shorter than Wallace but in some shots she is up to his nose. Those long skirts are hiding a lot.
  17. Yeah. I can see what people mean. It's not a great colour and I think fitted sleeves suits him more.
  18. Can someone post the Brown outfit. I just can't remember it being that bad That is a good outfit Is this the one? It's a weird colour kind brown.
  19. Yes well when China had the one child law. France is famous for mistresses. @OsmanthusTea you're right it is different legally. Women in general just had so little rights back then.
  20. If you read Crazy Rich Asian, you know mistresses have replaced concubines. Sad but true facts :-( Does anyone know how the one child rule worked if a man has a child with his wife and another with his mistress? I know this is probably not the right forum for this question but I always wondered.
  21. I think Shiyi respects Madame Luo, and understands her love of her own children. But she doesn't necessarily loves her or her father. She says to him: "I never really expected you to anything, considering how much you abandoned me and my mom after she lost your child." The best way to describe the relationship is how you would act to your boss, manager, CEO. You are afraid of them, and you know that you have to depend on them. So you are respectful towards them. Also Shiyi is logical, so if she can understand peoples reasons for their actions, she can respect their decisions. She knows that Madame Luo is trying to protect the family and that she loves her daughter and grandson. So even if she doesn't "like" the woman she can understand her reasons. I think Shiyi has developed over her life (since her mom was beaten on her behalf) a way to control her feelings. Even to Madame Xu when she's obviously being bias to Qiao, you see Shiyi bright (kind of fake smile). I think Seven who is famous for her bright smile decided to exaggerate it whenever she is really annoyed or angry but can't show it. Because Shiyi is powerless in the Luo family she has to rely on her patience and wits. Erniang is the daughter of Madame Luo's maid. She is also a concubine's daughter, but because her mom has devoted her life to kissing up to Madame Luo, I think Erniang hasn't had to suffer as much as Shiyi. Also not everyone can control their emotions. And she's terrible at it. Who she likes and dislikes is very clear. I don't know why she's seems to always hate Shiyi, unless it only started because the sisters were set up as rivals for the two grooms. And she wanted to be married to Houye. In a way Erniang is a simple person, love, hate, jealously, anger she reacts very clearly. Shiyi is much more complicated. She holds everything in and grew up only relying on herself. Even thought there are people who love her (her mom and maid) they aren't very clever. So she is used to having to internalise everything. In that way she and Houye have that in common, so for both of them they need learn to relay on each other. And that's what solidifies their relationship.
  22. Did they show what clothes she made for him? You know after the measurement?
  23. Personally I think Wang was always going to be a bad husband. Maybe it would have had a better start but he's spoiled abuser. Once he he got tired of her, he would have started his rampage of drinking and violence. Besides his family did nothing to curb his behaviour. The other issue is Erniang is hot tempered and blunt. She would overstep herself eventually. It might even be worse if she started to care for him and then to watch him turn on her. In a way, Erniang creates her own tragedies.
