  1. @mademoiselle That’s episode 11 when he went to the chicken restaurant with Gidong and “chanced” upon Hongjo and colleagues. They ask him what’s his ideal type and he said he had none and Hongjo asked him why not. Love that black with black aesthetic. Love it!!
  2. @mademoiselle Like you, I'm not invested in the romance bit, would have liked more KSL interactions within the family, but generally very keen to know what's gonna happen to Eun Gyeol and the future his actions will bring. I feel like Dad will still lose his hearing, but the outcome might not be as devastating as it was before, because I think Eun Gyeol will be there to help him through, possibly get through college despite his deafness - I hope both parents make it to a college degree (so rare for the Deaf of that generation) and it changes life for them significantly in the future where their voice becomes more significant in the present. Was Eun Yoo one of the girls Eun Ho was dating? or befriended? The one he could not let go of? About Eun Gyeol kissing Eun Yoo as Se Kyung, I know what you mean, but I think the point of the voice-over narration was that it was the first time he was reckless. So that abandonment of logic made sense to me.
  3. Hmm... not so sure about the line up. PMY's shows are generally of a predictable story line. No? I love time slip shows but they're not always well done in KDrama.
  4. @mademoiselle don’t stop posting!!! I’m still watching. Hahaha…
  5. @mademoiselle aw man… I’m not sure I’m ready to see him not as Shinyu with Hongjo!
  6. I think that she’s learnt enough to recognise some of the signs. She did tell Se Kyung/Eun Yoo that she’s only started learning so she doesn’t yet know many signs. Not uncommon that hearing people sometimes sign better than deaf people who picked up signs late. I reckon we don’t know enough Korean maybe to know if the speech patterns have become vastly different? They seem quite exposed to English already in their portrayal of 1995… wouldn’t know how the vernacular might have changed in that time. But I do want them to find out soon. Eun Gyeol almost got it except that Eun Yoo encountered the shop while in the US. And yes, I would very much like more of the band. We’ve already passed the halfway mark and there’s so little of the band still! The ending to episode 10 was interesting - that’s the real Yoon Dongjin in 2023… do we assume he speaks before history changed? Because in 1995, it would seem he did not become part of the band. The band will also “debut” under a different name - Watermelon Sugar.
  7. Just came across this thread - has Infernal Affairs vibe. I reckon it’s good but anything that could make my heart stop multiple times is not good for my wellbeing… hahaha…
  8. Am finally caught up! Loved the scenes relating to Chung Ah and her very ignorant family, Eun Gyeol’s discovery of this past which his mum never told him, and him convincing his grandfather to let him tutor his mum. Made me tear. These stories are unfortunately so often true. One thing that does not make sense though (I reckon it’s dramatic licence for them) - in reality if her parents wanted her to learn to speak, they would have either given her hearing aids or a cochlear implant - she has neither. She totally does not speak, does not voice, shows no semblance of an oral upbringing. Without that, how could she even reasonably pick up written language to survive up to High School? Surely it’s not all painting for them only? And she can certainly write. In reality if she was as language deprived as they suggest her to be, fully learning KSL only in her late teens, she would not be as able in school. What I’m curious about now - was the lady who first taught Chung Ah KSL her real mum or governess? She’s in the same class as her sister/half-sister? So she’s a mistress’s daughter? But if a mistress’s daughter and the father also wants to hide her disability, then would she not have been abandoned rather than taken into the family, especially since she’s not even a son (given their cultural norms still in the mid-90s)? What I’m waiting excitedly to happen - Eun Gyeol finding out that “Se Kyung” is actually Eun Yoo from the future too! But ah… what clashing agendas they have. I feel that pacing in the show could still be better. Scenes of Yi Chan’s antics honestly bore me and I fast forward through them.
  9. I don’t think he was sad per se, but he was certainly filled with many emotions, not least those he carried over from his memories of Mu-jin with Aeng-cho on the same bridge when he told her to run away with him. At that time it was because his father had threatened him with her life, so he was certainly sad. In the present, I reckon those feelings stemming from the knowledge he had of the past carried into the present - he knew things she did not yet know, and it was probably both overwhelming and confusing at the same time. I don’t see it as sadness. More weariness I think. He knew he would have to break the engagement with Nayeon which he had not yet done so. He still had to face his parents about that. He was still recovering, being freshly discharged from the hospital… many emotions. Hongjo too had that look of uncertainty and weariness in her eyes actually.
  10. @mademoiselle I like Shinyu the Lawyer look. Very dapper. Hahahaha… I have to say I prefer my men with short hair, so while Rowoon looks all modelly with his long hair at CK, it’s not doing it for me… hahaha… And the archery attire is a field attire I think. They wear it when out hunting. Must say Rowoon looks good whatever he wears, including in period attire. That said, I’m not so sure about his upcoming rom-com… but watching it for sure. He’s quite busy this year, aye?
  11. Exactly right? Either a wardrobe error, or he bought spares for her to change into in anticipation, or she already had spares placed in his house, which makes ep 15’s choice of wearing his work shirt (“take your time to change”) all the more sus which we love, cos we’re just busy filling up the gaps now. Hahahaha…
  12. @mademoiselle They’re all CK?!? Then whoever styled him for the latest didn’t do a good job. It looked formless on him. Ah - that episode where she went to his house drunk and then went to bed in that striped shirt - I always wondered, “who changed her?” hahahah
  13. @mademoiselle He looked good in all the denim ensembles except the CK one. Hahahahaha
  14. @mademoiselle There was this other Tumblr post I came across trying to explain the significance of the final scene with Mujin burying the spell books. Suggested that the blue book was buried by him with a hope that his reincarnated self would be the one to find it, so it began with him and it ended with him. Hmm… I dunno about that though. Cos then they bury it again - what if it gets found by another person in the future - especially the book of curses. Also, that thing about the blue book not being written by Aengcho and so would explain why the spells would not work - wasn’t there a flashback she had of herself writing the spells? I still wanna know how come Mr Gardener knew the curses without having the book. And did his curses work? We’ve only talked about about the spells Hongjo cast, but did the curses cast really work?
  15. @mademoiselle The Swoon needs to do actual Swoon cuts of Shinyu! Not short (i think it’s what he’s wearing). He just looks very normal in height when he’s standing alone. He’s not lanky. But once some other tall dude stands next to him, everyone else just looks so much shorter! In a crowd, there’ll be a sea of people, and then Rowoon. Hahahah… (I don’t like that denim getup he’s in by the way. Looks shapeless, but could be the angle of the shot.)
  16. Oh. I’m sad that today is Wednesday and there is no Shinhong to look forward to. Sadz.
  17. Yes! I do think that maybe for ladies being "all legs" is nice, but not for men. They need to be proportionate in their vital stats. Hahaha... It's like people who do workouts on their upper body and forget leg-day? No. Just, no. Hahaha... Rowoon looks good. Like those gifs you shared of Shinyu standing alone in the office, or the one where he is looking over at Hongjo lying down on the floor of the dilapidated shrine? On his own, you don't get the sense that he is as tall as he is because he just looks really good. And ah... hahaha... I didn't cry. I felt like crying, but I'm not someone who cries easily... just a real feat that I could feel his emotions too. @mademoiselle I also had a look at the tumblr link you shared (I hadn't gone into tumblr like forever, I had to reset my password!) and I stumbled into someone who totally analysed the Ep 15 kiss scene which I found quite so amusing. Hahaha... Also, that idea about the spell books... hmm... Maybe I should rewatch those scenes too. But why would the real book be the book of curses? Doesn't also explain NJB's knowledge of the curses. That is one issue I'm not happy that they didn't resolve. Tsk.
  18. I have discovered that Rowoon is indeed eye candy. Hahaha... But I have seen so many other eye candy idol actors who eventually became uninteresting to follow because they could not really act, or their delivery is very limited so they end up taking very static type roles which don't have depth of character. I'm sure you can think of a few in this category. Rowoon however has (and I keep saying it) been very firmly sealed as an actor whose shows I want to follow. I do hope good script writers will continue to seek him out. About how magic was presented, I kept having this on-going discussion with @mademoiselle where I couldn't decide if magic did or did not have a part to play with anything in the show. I reckon that perhaps the general cultural climate does not really want to push forward the idea of a believe in spells or what might be associated with the occult, lest there be people who attempt such things and then the show is blamed for it. They were quite clear at the end of it all to have Hongjo say that she accepts the knowledge of things such as a past life and spells, but she does not believe in them.
  19. Ah, KSL and ASL are totally different. I'm picking up some KSL signs now. Time to pull out that KSL dictionary! Hahaha... Are you fluent in ASL? Anyway, another gripe from me - the deaf trope that hearing people love to employ - I cannot sense that a car is right behind me and so I might get run over. First of all, Deaf people (like hearing people) wouldn't walk in the middle of the road. Who wants to risk getting run over by a car, hearing or deaf? Secondly, Deaf people are a lot more spatially aware than hearing people. Didn't Dad exactly say that when 12yo Eungyeol asked how he knew that Eungyeol was in trouble in the water? That annoyed me some. But otherwise... let's continue with the watch...
  20. Yes right? I usually hate angst of any kind (i'm bad with melodramas - very little patience for it since life is dramatic enough), but the pain that he had to go through and how he portrayed it just drew me in with the character. I felt his pain and wanted to cry with him (cos I'm annoyingly stoic that way and have forgotten how to cry with screen characters) - so anyone that can make me want to cry deserves an award. FL on the other hand... not that she's stupid or unthinking, but some of her actions just seemed like a product of poor directing because it did not seem like (a) a logical thing to do, nor (b) something she would do. Exactly this. A bit more to come. Tell me if you pick it up later @ktcjdrama. There could've been smarter ways for the plot to be advanced such that Shinyu still gets stabbed, or for her to not answer the call, for example (and obviously) she's taking a shower to calm herself down after the event. Can't drama characters be more real than stupid?
  21. Have been very invested in our Shin-Hong couple, but finally watched episode 5 this morning - and I'm finding this push and pulling with Dad's young self and the "mysterious" Se Kyung getting a bit tiring. And also with mum being absolutely quiet and non-responsive to anyone or anybody. That's gotten old already. Goodness. Deaf people don't behave that way!!! I hope they move things along soon. It's been moving so slowly I thought I had only watched 2 episodes when I decided to resume my watch today.
  22. Ooh! Nice that you're progressing nicely with the watch! And exactly this! I totally agree that this is has firmly placed him on my list of Leading Men to watch. His role in the other shows were a little more forgettable. I too thought he did better than JBA in this. Like you - I too wasn't quite so invested in them as an OTP at the start, but as the show progressed, I did find their relationship to be really believable (unlike for My Lovely Liar where I've said before - cute couple, but emm... yeah, that was about it). And yes, I agree with you on JBA's styling for this show. I don't like her cockroach-feeler bangs (they really annoyed me), and her fashion in episodes 1 and 2 was ok, but after that it really deteriorated. I found what they put her in really frumpy looking. Like, I know she's supposed to be a simple girl, but do her clothes need to look so bad? And those high boots... no. Just no... Aiyoh. I do think Rowoon's Shinyu saved her in more ways than one. @mademoiselleand I also did not like her colleagues. Even though the end tied up nicely, I felt it just wasn't enough to redeem them though. And the Ma-Gong story... I don't even know why it was there. Even the episode 16 cat-fight. Like... why? Wasted air time. So many other more interesting side characters they could have chosen to develop. Even if it was to develop the relationship between Hongjo and her teammates would've been better than Ma-Gong loveline... I had no idea that's what it meant to be the "face" of an idol group! I always wondered what they meant when they said that so-and-so was "in charge" of the visuals. But doesn't this mean they have more opportunities than their other teammates to make it big(ger)? Aiyoh... But Rowoon has proven himself finally. The description of what he's had to go through though is just very sad. Korean community is just so harsh. Ridiculously harsh. I also think it's sad the drama didn't seem to do so well back home, but I hope he's being appreciated for being popular outside the country. International community is clearly loving him/them - the number of views some of the YouTube edits have racked up! Wow! And speaking of YT edits - there was a FMV of their first few episode encounters made to the back group of Until I Found You by Stephen Sanchez (love the song!). I wish someone would do an updated one to the song of them right through to the end of ep 16. And I agree! There is advantage to his height! But you know, Rowoon isn't just tall. I mean, there are many tall guys, but some of them are too skinny tall. Rowoon is proportionately tall. He's not "all legs". Until someone else stands next to him, you don't actually get the impression he is that tall. He really looks good. Proportionately. Hahaha...
  23. What irony? What happened? Did not impact him negatively right?
  24. He was. And is. I have to say I like how his overall personality was written. Like his Joseon self, he had this period of aristocratic arrogance, only that in Joseon it did not last long cos he met Aengcho as a child. In modern day Korea, he’s had more years without Hongjo and also grew up under the shadow of the curse. So this cool, aloof exterior was very much waiting to be awakened by Hongjo. Even then he keeps it only for her (cut to Octopus cooking scene where he tells her he now realises the power of love and what he will be willing to do for it). But I digress. This cool exterior is also in part that aristocratic nobility that has likely been passed down the generations. And so it remains beneath him to play tit-for-tat with Nayeon and the Mayor. He is aboveboard and uses the law to achieve his ends. So very imperturbable. Absolutely sophisticated. I loved how when Jaegyeong told him to resign, afterall how could he let the man who used to date his daughter but is now dating someone else remain in the organisation, and all Shinyu said in response was, “Mayor’s daughter didn’t date only me.” Netflix Swoon should do cuts of Shinyu and all his swoonworthy clips. So many. My goodness. Be still my beating heart. About Cha Eunwoo - nothing against him, but his acting can’t hold a candle against Rowoon. Up to perhaps even The King’s Affection I might even be willing to say yeah…Rowoon is more pretty boy than actor, but after DWY - he’s sealed a place in the Hall of Actors. Firmly moved from Idol to Actor. In fact, because I’ve only ever known him as an actor, I must say I find it intriguing that he was even ever an idol! I cannot imagine Eunwoo taking up this role (voice not deep enough, looks not serious and mature enough). Can you imagine Eunwoo up against Jaegyeong? Naaaah… and Hyunseo? Naaaaaah!!! Besides, Eunwoo is really pretty boy but I think Rowoon has matured into handsome. There is a difference. 😉 Thanks for the clips! This ☝🏻! I love because you can see all that acting in his eyes. Eyes don’t mean what the words are saying! There is a lot of pain in his expressions. Very slight, but you can see he’s struggling with her rejection. And it’s not cos she’s stopped loving him - quite the opposite and he knows it. But as he’d told Wook before, he’s afraid that the more he tries, the more she’ll retreat. In that scene he had come to her drunk. He was responding to her heartbreaking resolve and her answer sobered him up. You could see all the gears in his head cranking up, the disappointment, pain, unwilling acceptance… He was in an absolute daze of painful memories when Wook came back to drive him back. Give the man an Emmy!
  25. I remain very impressed by Rowoon’s portrayal of Shinyu. I was watching his other past videos of him with SF9 also. He’s very likeable. And then other cuts from his other dramas. But this role seems to really seal him firmly as an actor. I see a lot of comparison between him and Cha Eun Woo too. But nah, Rowoon hands down. I think it would make sense if it worked this way: To be above board, they decided to hand the land over to the City of Onju and go through a proper tender process so that no one can say there was favouritism or nepotism involved because Shinyu is upright that way. The land was his anyway and as a civil servant at that point, employed by the City Hall, he did not want anyone calling him out on corrupt practices. But Daddy Dearest was not a straight man - no wonder his daughter grew up to think she owned the world. He would do anything for his daughter, and hence the dirty underhanded deals. That’s why when there was a sudden change in developer, Shinyu questioned the legality of it and said they won the tender fair and square. I wonder how Dad would feel if he knew that CEO Haum was banging up his daughter - it looks like he never knew till the end. And this jerk who also dumped his daughter - Nayeon was really deluded to the end. She actually told her friends she was getting married when in effect there was nothing between them following her breakup with Shinyu. That girl was really desperate to get married to power. And oui - I like the idea of Shinyu becoming the controlling shareholder of High & Law. Hahahaha. I love how we’re filling up the “gaps”. I think Gidong should be brought over as his personal assistant too. I can’t leave this drama yet. Keep the posts coming!! hahaha. I’m here with yoooooooo… Jang Shin yoooooooo 😂😂😂 and @mademoiselle, you of course. I too think the hospital scene where out of sheer relief and fatigue he collapses at her bed side and cries. Aiyoh. So many overwhelming emotions at one go. How is this young man so talented? He must have a lot of empathy for people and the emotions they feel.
