Hapcheon #1 - ‘Silver Grass Trail’ on Hwangmae Mountain

Another fantastic filming location of Bossam is a 4 hour drive from Seoul. I guess MBN really invested much on this sageuk because of the production cost alone dedicated to cinematography, apart from the restrictions of covid19 and the cold weather during autumn.

Located at the border between Gahoe-myeon and Daebyeong-myeon of Hapcheon, Hwangmaesan is a guardian mountain of Hapcheon but has not been popular and was hardly mentioned in hiking magazines or tourist maps. Thanks for that, the mountain has all the natural environment that has been kept untouched and undamaged. In 1983, the mountain was designated as the County Park and now, along with Gayasan, it is regarded as one of the most major mountains in Hapcheon.
Hwangmaesan is beautiful during the spring season when royal azaleas are at their full blossom but the summer season when hills are covered with fresh greens or the fall when silver grasses cover the hills gloriously and even the snow flowers in the winter season are scenes not to be missed. Unlike other mountain tops, this one has a full open view so every seasonal changes are more truly experienced. It is convenient that there is a road that reaches to the top of the mountain but if time allows, hiking up to the top to see the magnificent view is recommended for visitors

Oh hello Song Kang! I’m definitely going to watch this one. I’m not familiar with the FL though.

Same here, it's my first time to watch her. (She was one of the candidates and offered the script for the Island FL, but agency says it's not true.)

But the teasers and posters look endearing. It has spring-summer vibes on it !

Princess Soo-kyeong (Kwon Yu-ri/Yuri of Girl’s Generation) visits this temple –appearing as ‘Sangwon Temple’– for the second death anniversary of her late husband in episode 1 of Bossam: Steal the Fate (보쌈-운명을 훔치다) (MBN, 2021). At the same time, Ba-woo (Jung Il-woo) pays a visit to the head monk of this temple as it is his father’s death anniversary.

    About

    Spoiler

Located in Cheongnyangsan Mountain Provincial Park, Cheongnyangsa Temple was built by the great monk Wonhyo in 663, the 3rd year of King Munmu of the Silla Kingdom. According to the principles of feng shui, the area is an ideal place for a temple – with the 12 mountain peaks surrounding the temple like the petals of a lotus flower.

The temple is home to two precious historical remains; one is the board of Yuribojeon that King Gongmin of Goryeo wrote upon and the other is Jibul. Yuribojeon is the building where Yaksa-yorae-bul (the Medicine Buddha Statute) is housed and Jibul is a Buddha statute made of paper that was painted with gold.

At the back of the temple is Bosalbong Peak looking out towards Cheongnyangsan Mountain. A 30 minute walk along the hiking trail will lead you to Eungjinjeon, a hermitage with a beautiful view where the great monk Wonhyo once stayed. Behind Eungjinjeon stands Geumtapbong Peak and the sheer cliffs below. The peak was named Geumtapbong (meaning ‘golden pagoda’ in Korean) since it looks like a nine-story pagoda with pine trees growing around the base. In the autumn, the beautiful red, gold and orange hues of the maple trees are a true sight to behold.

  4. After episode 7-8, it is revealed that Kim Dae Seok a.k.a Ba Woo is indeed from the royal family, a descendant of Queen Dowager Inmok and her father Kim Jenam. It was five years later after King Gwanghae reign, that Northern Faction leader Yi Cheom instigated elimination of major players that will become threats in solidifying their power , including Kim Jenam's family.

Bossam: Steal the Fate' drops first teaser poster, Jung Il-woo's new still cut | Kdramapal

I can't find more readings about Kim Jenam, which prolly the production took artistic license to expand his story, including Ba Woo / Kim Dae Seok. It was a brilliant move, considering that there are more key political figures during King Gwanghae 's reign who were tried and killed because of power struggles. Based on records, Kim Jae Nam 's family were all executed--a good leeway for the writers to indicate that they may have died on record but still living in hiding, like Ba Woo. (Other stories with same scenario were The Princess' Man, Tale of Nokdu and Queen In Hyun's Man ).

What is more interesting on this historical references is when Sookyung mentioned about Hong Gil Dong, which became a popular literary figure from King Seonjo to King Gwanghae's reign. Said publication is written by a renowned scholar Heo Gyun, which circled his political connections with King Gwanghae and Yi Cheom. Heo Gyun, was also tried for treason, something that also plotted by Yi Cheom eventually.

    밀당커플's supporter (@yuwre) | Twitter

Also, Bossam made two references to history with regards to Princess Sookyung. (1) Historically, Yi Cheom, in order to gain more favor in the political arena, let her grand daughter marry the crown prince. (2) Sookyung could be the unnamed daughter of King Gwanghae from Royal consort So-ui of the Papyeong Yoon Clan . The timeline of her birth versus on the story may have adjusted to fit for the narrative (born in 1619, which is quite a significant age gap if we will align with Ba Woo's age in the story).

  7. Episode 4 , Geu Ru plays Moonlight Sonata as he cleans the room of the murdered teacher.

Further readings about Moonlight Sonata , i would cling on the idea that the production had chosen this song as the theme for this episode. I came across on this article that describes about this piece.

    2. What inspired Beethoven in case of the first movement of the Moonlight Sonata?

According to Edwin Fischer, in a library in Vienna he found notes written by Beethoven, supporting the theory that the first movement was inspired by Mozart’s Don Giovanni‘s murder scene. If so, the first movement is a death scene.

    - As mentioned by Geu Ru, they have dealt with crime scenes before, and the murder of the teacher is just like the others whom they made a send off.

    4. What is unique about Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata?

This piano sonata has a unique atmosphere, something never heard before. It has a mesmerizing and heartbroken mood, at the same time.

This describes how Geu Ru perceived the love of Teacher Seon Yeong 's students to her thru the scribbles made for her, which he highlighted when he confronted the murder/stalker.

    9. What is special about the last movement of the Moonlight Sonata?

According to Charles Rosen, the first movement is too delicate for modern instruments and the last is too massive for the contemporary. The first movement has an unspeakable mystery and tragedy, which finally results in rage and fury in the last movement.

    - Fully describes the death of the teacher, but then unraveled after the discovery of the cctv installed in her home. It may also describe the crime of passion committed by the perpetrator.

Lee Da Hee is also positively reviewing the offer .

    Spoiler

Lee Da Hee might be starring in the upcoming drama “Island” (literal title).

On May 17, Sports Donga reported that Lee Da Hee had been cast as the female lead of “Island,” a role Seo Ye Ji was previously in talks for. The producers reportedly pinpointed Lee Da Hee as the optimal fit for the role while the actress also appreciated of the quality of the production.

Her agency Santa Claus Entertainment clarified to Newsen, “Lee Da Hee has received an offer to star in ‘Island’ and is positively reviewing it.”

“Island” is a fantasy exorcism drama based on a webtoon of the same name. It will tell the story of Pan, who needs a woman to end his cursed immortal life, and Won Mi Ho, the daughter of a rich family who is being targeted by goblins. The two are joined by exorcist priest John who is consumed by the guilt of having been unable to protect one girl. On the island that possesses an evil darkness despite its beauty, the three characters who seem unlikely to get along will gather their strength to protect each other.

Kim Nam Gil is confirmed to play the male lead Pan, and ASTRO‘s Cha Eun Woo is currently in talks for a role. Initially, Seo Ye Ji had been in talks for the role of Won Mi Ho, but she withdrew from the drama after being swept up in a controversy.

There are reportedly plans for “Island” to have multiple seasons. The broadcast schedule is undecided, as the female lead has not been confirmed yet. Based on Sports Donga’s report, the first season would have aired in the end of this year according to the original plan. It is also reported that the production process may begin this summer at earliest if the casting is finalized now

  9. I started to watch this drama today :hearties:

TMI on Geu Ru's playlist - every time he does the cleaning

    Quote

The melodies of the pieces use deliberate, but mild, dissonances against the harmony, producing a piquant, melancholy effect that matches the performance instructions, which are to play each piece "painfully" (douloureux), "sadly" (triste), or "gravely" (grave).  source

The word gymnopédies was derived from a festival of ancient Sparta at which young men danced and competed against each other unencumbered by clothing, and the name was a (presumably) droll reference to Satie's gentle, dreamy, and far-from-strenuous piano exercises.

I guess producers really love the tone of Erik Satie's works in genres like this. One of his famous work, Je Te Veux was featured in A Piece of Your Mind.

  10. Jung Il Woo, Yuri, And Shin Hyun Soo Find Themselves In A Dangerous Situation In “Bossam: Steal The Fate”

MBN’s “Bossam: Steal the Fate” has released new stills ahead of its next episode!

The historical drama is about the fateful romance that occurs when a mysterious rogue named Ba Woo (Jung Il Woo) accidentally kidnaps Princess Soo Kyung (Girls’ Generation’s Yuri), the widowed daughter of King Gwanghae.

    bossam.jpg

    Spoilers
Previously on “Bossam: Steal the Fate,” the relationship between Ba Woo and Soo Kyung started to change. They still bickered and argued, but they started to genuinely care for one another. Soo Kyung decided to work at a tavern and do the chores to help out Ba Woo. He pretended not to care, but he was actually concerned about her. Towards the end of the episode, Soo Kyung stopped Dae Yeop (Shin Hyun Soo) from hurting Ba Woo, and it will be exciting to see what will happen to these three people in the future.

The new stills from the upcoming episode foreshadow a crisis. The guard of the northern faction leader Lee Yi Chum (Lee Jae Yong) has sent people after Ba Woo and Soo Kyung. Dae Yeop and Ba Woo both stand firmly against the chasers, and Soo Kyung’s eyes are sharp with determination as she aims an arrow at someone. Dae Yeop ends up getting hurt while protecting Soo Kyung, and viewers can look forward to what Ba Woo and Soo Kyung will do next.

MBN shared, “In episode 5 that airs on May 15, Ba Woo, Soo Kyung, and Dae Yeop will face a major crisis. Viewers will be able to see what choice they will make in order to protect what is precious to them. Please watch to see what happens to the fate of these three people

    P A R T 1

The faces of actors vary. Through the characters they assume in productions, viewers have only an indirect asses to the lives these actors live behind those images.

Having taken on the role of smooth-taking Seo Eunji in KBS2's drama 'Nice Guy' last year, Moon Chae Won appears as Cha Yoon Seo this year as 'Angel Doctor' who cares for patients and colleagues alike in the drama 'Good Doctor'.

A fine arts student who became an actress

Although there are people who might already know this, prior to becoming an actress, I was majoring in fine arts. I was a highschool student who dreamnt of entering the arts faculty, I have a great natural interst in movies and enjoyed dramas, and my hobbies finally concretized into something more practical (acting) when I im in the third year of highschhol and worrying over course or direction to take in future.

Although I did eventually enter an arts course, an unexpected chance to become an actress came, so I stopped attending school and debuted in 2007 through the drama 'Mackarel Run'.

    e09f7c9661a1711e36da63e4d62554f0.png

Even though at that time, although I did not receive any formal education as an actress, I have, at present, learnt so much through my seniors. All I learnt I count as important teachings and am, to the fullest extend possible, happy because of the advice given to me. After filming 'Mackarel Run', I filmed the movie ' Our School E.T.' and immediately after, was cast in 'The Painter of the Wind'.

I still feel thankful towards 'Painter of the Wind'. I received compliments for my role as Jeong Hyang in the drama, and for the first time, gained official recognitions as an actress. Ah! There is no way I could ever forget that moment.

'War of the Arrows", I am very satisfied with this production...

    837ccee694eb30f5148e9c5cd9224410.png

'War of the Arrows' was present that I could not even imagine could come my way. At first, I was already really satisfied because it was a good production , so it was beyond my wildest dreams when it later helped me clinch the Excellence Award (2011 19th Republic of Korea Cultural Entertainment Arts Awards). On top of that, it helped me gain recognition as a promising actress, and gave me the Best New Actress Award (32nd Blue Dragon Film Awards and 48th Daejong Film Awards). I am both grateful and honored.

I always think that I made a good choice choosing acting as my career. That is because the productions and awards continually allow me to give opportunities to dream and to continue challenging myself.

For all the chances given to me that have allowed me to come this far, from the depths of my heart, I am grateful.

Again, I want to make use of this opportunity to thank the many people working behind the scenes .

It is only with their efforts that I could have arrived at where I am right now.

Filming Location  : House of Choi Champan in Hadong

This blogger posted that she was able to witness filming location of Bossam when she visited the place. The theme park is called Choi Champandaek or also known as House of Choi Champan, located in Hadong--a 4 hour travel thru train.

I find the place exquisite because of the architecture of the houses, which is quite different with the earlier Joseon period. It is noted that the setting of the drama is near the first Japanese invasion era.

Other dramas filmed here : Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung , Moonlight Drawn by Clouds, Moon Embracing the Sun.

    Quote

Literally mean “Home of Choi Cham Pan” or “Home of Choi Second Minister”, Choi Champandaek is located in the plain field under the Mt. Seongje, which is the end of southern part of the ridge, which is the great ridgeline of the Mt. Jiri, Pyeongsa-ri, Agyang-myeon. The hillside village of Pyeongsa-ri in Agyang is well known as the setting for a great epic historical novel called “Toji” or “The Land”, written by Gyeongri Park, and received all the benefit from the Seomjin River. Every autumn, the “Toji Literature Festival” takes place here.

This is where Heo Yeon Woo lives during childhood. Choi Champandaek consists of 14 traditional Korean houses, reproducing the living culture in the later period of Joseon Dynasty.
