  1. @mademoisellei skipped chapters 20-30, so we will get the answers from there. I will continue to read the remaining chapters and will update here.

However right from the beginning, Jaeon simply just 'like butterflies', without any backstory to tell but only describing their nature. That's all.

I hope the drama will find a way to humanize Jaeon. But like i have seen the webtoon he's a total jerk. And based on the recaps of everyone here , his being touchy to ladies is just what was described in the webtoon . There were no details on this one, i guess the drama will expound Jaeon's description.

The tease on the article, i thought i was reading an excerpt from Mills and Boon  :GrimChamp:

    Quote

Excessively sweet, dizzyingly sexy, and the flirtatious reality of young people who want to fall in love even though they know they are bad raises the excitement index. In the photo released ahead of the first broadcast, Jae-eon Park's unstoppable 3-step straight forward moment is unveiled. You can feel the trembling in the eyes of Yuna-bi, who stands with her back against the wall, and Jae-eon Park, who is approaching her. The distance between the two people, close enough to even breathe, calls for a thrilling thrill. The mood of the two in the following photo changes 180 degrees. Park Jae-eon and Yuna-bi are full of freshness like college students. Yuna-bi's face, receiving Park Jae-eon's sweet gaze, is somehow complicated. After the intense first meeting, the two people reunited in an unexpected place, raising curiosity about how their relationship will change.

Park Jae-eon and Yuna-bi's '1 Second Before Kiss' moment makes us guess the unpredictable relationship between the two people who are falling in love. Yuna-bi, with her eyes closed, and Jae-eon Park, boldly entered into his boundary. The moment when your lips seem to touch at any moment creates a 'breathing' of the viewers. Meeting like fate on a chilly winter night The two people raise expectations by foretelling the thrilling excitement from the beginning of what they will go through until they meet the spring night together.

Han So-hee said, "Like the title of the drama, it is a work that deals with the emotions of 'knowing but unavoidable' realistically and in more detail. I hope you will pay attention to whether the two people's meeting will be fate, or whether it will be love." He also said, “I was nervous because I received a lot of attention and love before the broadcast, but I worked hard on filming, so please watch it. I hope that it will be a work that will remain in the heart of the viewers as well. Please support Yoo Nabi.”

Park Jae-eon', is a flower that no one can have. He said, "You will definitely get a different feeling from the existing fresh and tickling youth romance. I always feel new while filming. I think viewers will be more attracted to this point,” he added, adding to the anticipation. He continued, “Jae-eon is a person with a strong personality. I thought deeply about how to best express his thoughts and feelings. You will find a completely different look from the ones I have shown in previous works. Please look forward to it.”

  4. Song Kang And Han So Hee Talk About Similarities To Their Characters In “Nevertheless” + Reasons For Starring In The Drama
    nevertheless-song-kang-han-so-hee.jpeg
    by C. Hong

On June 18, JTBC’s upcoming Saturday drama “Nevertheless” held an online press conference with director Kim Ga Ram and lead actors Song Kang and Han So Hee.

Based on a hit webtoon, “Nevertheless” is about the realistic romance between a woman named Yoo Na Bi (Han So Hee), who doesn’t believe in love but still wants to date, and a man named Park Jae Uhn (Song Kang), who finds dating a bother but likes to have flings.

Director Kim Ga Ram said, “Han So Hee and Yoo Na Bi are one and the same. There were times when I’d even get confused between the two. I’m grateful to her [for getting so immersed in the role]. Song Kang and Park Jae Uhn are people with different textures. People ask, ‘How can the boyish and pure-hearted Song Kang match with the flirtatious Park Jae Uhn?’, but both have their charms. I think you can say that a spoonful of Song Kang has been added to the original webtoon character of Park Jae Uhn.”

Han So Hee said, “I was a big fan of the original webtoon, and like the director said, I could relate to Yoo Na Bi’s feelings of falling in love. I wanted to try a romance that was different from what I’d done before, something that was more fitting for my current age.”

Although Han So Hee has filmed other projects since then, “Nevertheless” will be the first to come out after her breakout hit drama “The World of the Married.” She said, “A lot of people think that I chose ‘Nevertheless’ to change my image after ‘The World of the Married,’ but the truth is that I am quite similar to Yoo Na Bi in real life. Rather than a ‘change,’ it feels like I’m wearing clothes that suit me.”

About working with Song Kang, she shared, “He was one of the fan casting choices even before the drama was announced, right? I think that he looks very similar to the character. I think that helped me bring Na Bi more to life as well. Song Kang is a bright person in real life too. He has a different appeal from Park Jae Uhn. His innocent and refreshing vibe combined with Park Jae Uhn makes the character more appealing.”

Song Kang said, “When I first saw the script, I thought it was a campus drama, but it’s more like a romance drama with a different twist. I like how it shows the pins-and-needles feeling of sweetness and excitement of romance at that age.”

About Han So Hee, he said, “I think that she resembles Yoo Na Bi on the outside. Her expressions and everything were so similar that I was surprised. Han So Hee is someone who has an easygoing and refreshing personality. She’s very good at what she does. She’s also very flexible. No matter what I do, she goes along with it, so it’s comfortable to film with her.”

Director Kim Ga Ram mentioned the fact that some episodes are being rated 19+. “A lot of people are thinking crude thoughts about the rating,” she said, “but the truth is that the characters are over 19 years old, so they sometimes act in ways that are over 19 years old. Since people under the age of 19 can’t see those things, that’s why the rating is like that.”

Okay Song Kang, we are looking forward what is that twist you are referring to.

  5. The reason why Joo Ji-hoon climbs the mountain while traversing the eight islands

    FOREVER CHASING TOMORROW

    Esquire Magazine Interview

Please tell me about 〈Mt. Jirisan〉, which is filmed while riding on the mountains.
There's something fun about this. I often ride mountains, but I don't think I'm overdoing it. After thinking deeply about why, I think it is because the times have changed. There was a time when office workers took overtime for granted. In those days, even if the lead actor was injured while filming a drama or movie, it was difficult to complete the work. Everyone wanted the lead actor to do that, and the lead actor also jumped in with passion.

    ef979499-ba57-4e7b-86ad-ad01675c93c7.jpg

Doing so has been described as a virtue.

Right. However, while filming <Mt. Jirisan>, I thought that the situation and times had changed a lot. What we were trying to fill with passion alone, we have been able to reduce risk factors and increase the quality with the advancement of technology and systems. To shoot a scene from three viewpoints with one camera, an actor has to perform the same performance three times. But if you shoot with three cameras, you can only do it once. That's the logic.

Q:I think that's a very important thing. As technology advances, production time is reduced, but it also reduces the risk of injury to actors and staff.

Yes. It takes less time and less risk if you shoot an action scene that would have been shot with one camera with three cameras. I am enjoying such an advantage this time. If there is a scene where there is a very steep mountain, actors would have to climb a really steep slope themselves in the past. We're doing it a little differently. What you can cover is taking pictures while covering it. So I climb the mountain, but it doesn't feel like I'm about to die.

Yes. We had similar conversations in previous interviews. In a scene where a stuntman can be used, it is right to use a stuntman as much as possible. That's the way the lead actor is for the whole project.

It's not because the action scenes are annoying or difficult. If a leading actor gets hurt while performing a stunt, it's a big deal. If you get a fracture, you won't be able to do filming for at least 8 weeks. About 1,000 people, including 150 to 200 staff members and their families, are inevitably affected, such as having to take a break from work for 8 weeks. Of course, you have to do the necessary scenes and the scenes where you can do it. Do I have to shoot an action scene while taking that risk? It would be possible if the sum of the actions was perfect, and the actors and crew were completely prepared and given enough time to shoot, but in reality, these are tasks that are always pressed for time.

I was going to ask you something light-hearted about how you feel because you've been living for a while, but it has become more serious than that.

I think it's because I've been thinking a lot about these things lately. Of course, you don't need passion even now. When I am involved in a film with a small budget, I take risks and do it too much. I'm thinking about trying to do better without getting hurt somehow.

It's an important story, but after that, I didn't even talk about the content of <Mt. Jirisan> that I was curious about. Please talk quickly. Not much is known.

There is not much I can reveal. (Laughs) It is a work that uses the genre characteristics of 'Thriller', which is its own identity, very well to cover the huge theme of 'coexistence'. But in the meantime, the color of emotion conveyed by this work is very warm. It seems impossible, but it is possible. It's all in. There's a big theme, dramatic fun, and emotional warmth.

I think Kim Eun-hee would do a great job.

That's right. I don't know if this is a correct analogy, but think of eating spicy chicken feet at a dinner party and pouring soju into your stomach. It may not be good for your body, but there is definitely a sense of pleasure that comes from sweating. But again, the purpose of the dinner is not for pleasure, but to promote camaraderie and friendship.

He drinks soju from chicken feet, but the subject of the party is friendship, and there is a genre-stimulating pleasure called thriller, but the theme of the work is coexistence. It's pretty fitting. What mountain did you come from today?

I arrived in Seoul at 12 o'clock last night. From Mt. Jirisan in Namwon, Jeollabuk-do.

Why are sightings heard not only from Mt. Jirisan but also from Jeju Island?

I am filming not only in Namwon, but all over the country. First of all, Mt. Jirisan itself is so large that it spans three provinces: Gyeongsangnam-do and Jeolla-do, so we are constantly wandering around the South. Also, since the sets are located in Daejeon, Yongin, and Paju, we travel all over the country. Filming in Jeju Island is somewhat related to the technology and capital story mentioned earlier. It is possible to take pictures in the nature of Mt. Jirisan, but it is a very deep mountain, so the distance from the place that can be reached by car to the filming location is too far. It is dangerous, difficult, and time-consuming for the staff to carry all kinds of equipment to film on that long road. However, in Jeju Island, there is a place where you can meet nature similar to Mt. Jirisan within 10-20 minutes of walking from the car. Even with a little more budget, we shot it with less risk, less effort, and faster in Jeju Island. I think it was possible to do <Jirisan> because there was a budget and the pre-production period was sufficient.

This time, the director is Lee Eung-bok of 'Goblin' and 'Mr. Sunshine'. Is this the first time director Lee's aesthetic screen and Kim Eun-hee's story are attached?

    Image
So I'm very curious to see what the results will be. Dramas don't have time to monitor like movies.

Is this the first time Ji-hoon and Lee Eung-bok work together?
    First time.

If it comes out as pretty as <Goblin>, it's good to look forward to it. (Laughs) He's a director who can make you look like a cartoon character if he wants to.

It won’t come out like that. (Laughs) Since we are a mountain, it rains all the time, and we roll and do it.

There seems to be no romance.
Romance... Romance in our work is like 'Schrödinger's Cat'. If there is, there may be, and if not, there may not be.

If you know it exists, it is not there, if you know it does not exist, it is there

But definitely not at all. It can't be without it at all, but the level and the way it is expressed... Viewers who are accustomed to dark melodies may respond, 'Is this a melodrama?'

    It seems similar to <Signal>.
Right. <Signal> is definitely not a romance, but you can feel something. I really did my best (laughs). I think I did everything I could say. Now watch it on TV.

  6. @abs-oluteMI agree on you when it comes to participation of women in politics, given that in this drama , Sookyung had been there at the backstage , involved in the behind the scenes from the moment she was bossamed by Bawoo.

Lady Kim too, is more of an advisor to the King , which is quite unusual. Because Kings have eunuchs to begin with. But here, the court lady official takes the lead in ensuring the King's welfare as a priority--even if the King's daughter be damned, she doesn't care.

This is quite bold for the writer to highlight female characters that are more influential in the flow of the story. Maybe the writer took inspiration from the Queen Inmok herself--which is quite an interesting character who was not a significant part of this kdrama. Considering that Queen Inmook's exile is at the same timeline of the events that took place in Bawoo's life.

    Queen Inmok (TBC, 1974)

Choi Yu Ri as Princess Jeongmyeong, Yun Jeong Hee as Queen Inmok, and Cheon Dong Seok as Prince Youngchang

The event of the books which circulated because of Lady Jo as an insider of the royal family affairs (well, we have Sookyung too ), was similar with the accounts of Queen Inmok written in her diary 'Gyech'uk ilgi. The diary was composed and written by unnamed court lady official which is a devotee of the Queen. However, the narration of the Queen 's suffering during her exile, as well as the death of her son Prince Youngchang was debunked by scholars because the standard historical accounts of the King Gwanghae is known to be 'wise and good king'.

More about Queen Inmok and her relationship with King Gwanghae --

    Spoiler

This is a calligraphic work by Queen Inmok, the second wife of King Seonjo of the Joseon Dynasty, who excelled at the art. The contents of the writing have been interpreted as a comparison of herself and her stepson King Gwanghaegun to an old cow and its whipping master, respectively. At that time, she was in a difficult situation due to the power wielded by the the Daebuk (Great Northerners) political faction.

Seonamsa is a beautiful temple located at the east end of Jogyesan Mountain. The distance between the entrance and the temple site is approximately 1 kilometer. The temple site is nestled within a lush forest of diverse trees that are hundreds of years old. In front of the temple is a arched stone bridge named Seungseongyo Bridge, which is supported by natural bedrocks. In front of the main hall, Daeungjeon Hall, are two three-story stone pagodas that grab visitors' attention. Not only is Seonamsa Temple home to many of the country's pristine treasures and artifacts, it is also one of the few temples that preserve the traditional temple culture even as of today. Seonamsa Temple is beautiful throughout the year, but it is especially inviting in spring and fall when the flowers start to bloom and tree leaves change in color. (source)

@bluepebbles @Tofu Me no likey the webtoon's ending  I hope they change it & give me happy ending, esp. when Song Kang already did not get Kim So Hyun in Love Alarm! Hmm you know what? He may be smiling a lot in the preview @Tofu, perhaps later he's back to crying LOL

I really hope so. The webtoon Jaeon is not really a likeable character, not sure if the writer intended to have the main lead not getting the girl in the end.

Also the writer said the webtoon is completed. No more season to follow. Based on the comments, author is fond of writing 'realistic' endings, based on her previous works.

[Official] "Explosion of presence just from the back"... The 2nd teaser poster for 'Kingdom: Ashin starring Jeon Ji-hyun is unveiled

    [Sports Chosun Correspondent Jo Ji-young]

The world-class entertainment streaming service Netflix has released the second teaser poster for 'Kingdom: Ashen of the North' (screenplay by Eun-hee Kim, directed by Seong-hoon Kim).

The 2nd teaser poster that was released draws attention with the strong back of Ah-shin (Jun Ji-hyun), who has become an adult. Ashin, facing the cavalry alone with a bow in the broad plain of the cold northern part of the country, amplifies curiosity just by looking at the back surrounded by black smoke and flames.

What kind of whirlpool of fate has struck young Asin (Kim Shia), who has discovered the resurrection plants that bring the dead back to life. The story of 'Ashin, the beginning of death' also causes a lot of speculation about Ashin's warriors who are entangled in the starting point that drove Joseon into fear of the plague.

If 'Kingdom' seasons 1 and 2 dealt with the tragedy of the plague that spread like wildfire in the south of Joseon, 'Kingdom: Ashin of the North' deals with the story and origin of the first found plan in the northern part of the wilderness , with unfamiliar background . It makes you anticipate a huge story that will unfold.

'Kingdom: Asin' is a special episode of the 'Kingdom' series that tells the story of Saengsacho and Ashin, the beginning of the great tragedy that covered Joseon. Jeon Ji-hyeon, Park Byeong-eun, Kim Si-a, etc. appeared, and writer Kim Eun-hee, who created the 'Kingdom' series, wrote the script, and director Kim Seong-hoon took the lead. It will be released simultaneously in 190 countries around the world on July 23.

  12. @abs-oluteMno specific of Kim Dae Seok as Kim Je Nam’s son at the same time Princess Soo Kyung is vague when it comes to records.

Given the timeline still, King Gwanghae will be ousted by Kim Jae Jeom-the faction that Bawoo joined forces with. Also, for the record Princess Sookyung is dead , and seems like she will just be recorded as is if we base on the records of

King Gwanghae . (He has unnamed daughter—only addressed as Lady Yi).

This is quite a leap from the Annals of Joseon but I guess the artistic license they got was the timing differences from the events. The reinstatement of Prince Yeongchang still happened. And from the records of Kim Jenam—the writer tweaked that if given that there is no specific record to say that all of his family died too. It only said that Kim Jenam was tried and executed but no mentioning if all of his family survived or not.

(another example of deviation but not really a substantial to the character/legacy of the monarch is from River Where the Moon Rises where in the age of King Jinheung of Silla was adjusted to fit in the narrative)

  13.

    Nevertheless spoilers from Chapter 31-40

    Spoiler

    Chapter 31

So from 31 we already have Do-hyeok and Seol-a in the story.

Nabi is in the country side with her aunt. Do Hyeok is walking her home, but at the same time having their last time together because Nabi is going back to Seoul the following day. He might not able to catch her but he promised to be there before she leaves. During their convo, Jaeon keeps on calling Nabi.

Nabi hugs Do-hyeok , because he is about to cry. (could be SLS warning from here on

When Dohyeok leaves, Nabi answered the call from Jaeon.

"You got to be kidding me" she said.

    Chapter 32

Nabi is ranting about the phone call to her aunt. She only said about Jaeon 's breaking up with "her girlfriend" and asked her when she is coming back. Aunt mentioned how Nabi and her mother as so much the same, coming to her and complaining about their love lives.

    - Aunt and Nabi's mom were the ones who thought about Nabi's name--mom want her life to be sweet as the nectar, while aunt wanted her to be able to spread her wings wherever she goes.

-Dohyeok apparently brought flowers for Nabi. While he is practicing what to say-Nabi was there. Embarrassed as he is, he confess what he feels. Of course Nabi rejected his feelings for some reasons. Dohyeok assumes it was because of Jaeon (tho he did not know his name i presume). Nabi said that was not the case,

    Chapter 33

"It;s because I played mind games with his GF. Then I pretended I hadnt done anything and came here to escape. When I get back to Seoul. Ill probably get into a huge fight with him.... Right now I don't have the ability to love someone wholly."

Dohyeok is taking his chances, asking Nabi to give him a chance. (this screams SLS  )

Again, Nabi says no. They parted. She get the flowers tho--for her aunt to keep.

At the bus station, Nabi is just thinking of getting on the bus when Dohyeok came. He made a proper goodbye but he is not giving up either.  "I give it some thought. Until you find another man or tell me that Im just not the one for you.. I won't be able to give up on you. I'll text you " :pandalick: *He was blushing after LMAO*

In Seoul , an expectant Jaeon is waiting at the front door--of Nabi's unit perhaps.

    Chapter 34

Nabi and Jaeon talked. About the break up .About Jaeon being sincere. Nabi said forget it. Jaeon is persistent. He asked what he should do for her to listen. Nabi said kneel . He kneeled. He asked if she believe her now. Nabi again is having second thoughts.

    Chapter 35

Still Nabi wont believe Jaeon's intention to have a serious relationship. Days go by , both are busy with their sculpture which are due. One night, Nabi have a convo with Dohyeok. Both are trying to squeeze in their scheds in order to see each other, but both don't have the right time to do so (nabi having an overnight with her friends). Then suddenly, Jaeon hugged Nabi from the back interrupting the call ! She asks why. Jaeon handed her the other pair of her glove which she dropped.

He said he was jealous. "I hope you'll recognize my feelings soon. This is harder than I thought."

The day of the overnight trip arrived.

    Chapter 36

During the trip, both Jaeon and Nabi are not talking to each other. Bitna confronted Nabi about this. Nabi asks her to stop asking . But Bitna is insisting to know what exactly happened because it is an outing after all. The silence coming from them both makes the atmosphere awkward for everyone, and they will be having a drink later. Nabi finally said Jaeon asks her out. Bitna was surprised. (All along no one knows about their complicated relationship)

Bitna says he changed and that is a huge deal so no need to play hard to get.  Nabi did not deny she has no feelings for him, but anxiety always kicks in everytime she is with him. She asked Bitna not to tell anyone.

Later that evening the group talked about their plans. One of the students mentioned that Jaeon and seonghun havent been to the military yet. Jaeon said it depends when the right time comes. Bitna being the pushy that she is, asked is it because of a lady? Then everyone is curious who is that girl.

    Nabi is panicking.

    "Is she here with us?"

    "She is"

"Would you like to kiss her?"

    "That would be nice"

"Do you want to live with her for a hundred years?"

"are you having fun?" Nabi finally spoke up and she walked out .

Nabi is mad about what Bitna did . While Bitna is defending what Nabi said about her feelings is still there, Jaeon overheard it. He asked Bitna to leave them .

    Chapter 37

Nabi and Jaeon reconciled, and decided to give it a chance, and try to have a serious relationship.

However that night, Do Hyeok sent a video to Nabi about the things they did together. It somehow hurts her that she foresees they will no longer text each other soon?

The spoiler photo I posted before is in this scene. However, Nabi being weirded out don't want to do IT.

She pushed Jaeon Park out of the bed.

    Chapter 38

Things went fast on this chapter.  While the group is expecting an announcement of Nabi and Jaeon dating news. It is the other way around.

"Well, its; not the first time Ive seen a girl like you. Girls like you always find a way to ruin things whether im good to you or not. Usually I just argue with them and let it go, but what you did really pissed me off. "

(because I skipped 10 chapters, there should have been something Nabi did that pissed Jaeon a lot)

"Im sure we both said a few more hurtful things to each other, but I dont remember . Perhaps i forgot about them on purpose" .

Nabi became the lethargic that she is (sleeping, doing nothing for days) , until her mother came to console her.

Transition -Christmas came. And so Do Hyeok.

    Chapter 39-40

Do Hyeok is based in Seoul as a trainee as a chef. Both Nabi and him are quite busy that they only communicate thru text. That Christmas Day, Nabi finally confessed what happened between her and Jaeon. She asked Dohyeok to leave her for good because she don't want to be guilty about him being good to her ever since.

They parted ways in the street, Nabi wanted to walk Dohyeok at the bus station but he refused. If she really care about him, she just let him leave. At the middle of the street, Dohyeok left with Nabi standing there, crying. The crowd noticed her assuming that Dohyeok was the boyfriend breaking up with her. She grabbed one of the bystanders but before she punch her , Dohyeok fetched her and both of them left.

Dohyeok confessed that like Nabi , he also had been in shitty relationship similar to hers.

They decided not to end their communication. Sometime had passed, until they met again.

They started dating, however Dohyeok started to become famous because of one video uploaded on social media. This made Nabi a little insecure, that even at one time when they both strolled in the park , fans of Dohyeok approached him.

While the fans took photo of him, Nabi overheard a guy talking about butterflies to a girl. Even without seeing his face he knew who it was because of the navi tattoo.

"Do you want to see the butterflies im raising?"

"Whoa, that's so cool! Do you keep them forever like pets?"

"No. Usually I let them go after a while, but sometimes they fly away on accident. That just how it is."

"When you let them go, do they survive well on their own?"

"I guess so. Do you want to hear something interesting? Butterflies look free, but actually..they travel on the same paths forever.:

"Hmm. I feel kind of sorry for them."

"Really? I think they should just enjoy it"

    The end.

    Spoiler

After reading the last 10 chapters I am in awe. To be honest, I am expecting that the webtoon=drama but then omitting the Nabi's ex professor boyfriend could be a sign that there will be deviations from the webtoon.

But I really like how the ending went. I am just for the realistic one, at the same time I think this would give justice to Nabi for valuing herself more than anyone else. Even if she still struggles with her new relationship with Dohyeok, she is trying to get away from the norm that she believes .

Do hyeok is too good to be true, but then , I like how the writer had made him the not perfect guy in the story. I just hope his character will be more in depth in the kdrama version. Im saying this because i skipped ten chapters. But maybe with the ending, I would be liking his character more from the rest.

Jaeon is an interesting character, which I think Songkang had made this project as one of his next character to bring into life. In the webtoon he is a douchevag , I might not even liking him at all in the drama version. HOwever, the character choice also is intriguing which makes me wonder how will song kang interpret Jaeon as his own.

Nabi.. ah Nabi. Let me hug you. You feel shitty about yourself but you do this on your own accord. But you becoming a courageous woman that you are to make one step away from Jaeon is the highlight of the story. I cant wait to see how Han Sohee will make her to be loved and hated by the audience. Because definitely her character is a roller coaster.

  14. I am watching this drama like a snail, i am still at episode 12.

Alright, so the King reinstated Prince Yeongchang. This is a deviation from the history, because the prince was only reinstated during King Injo's reign, together with Queen Inmok. Also, there is no historical reference (based on my readings) that Kim Jenam has survivors. Thus Kim Dae Seok reinstated as well as his mother and sister , may also have been part of the artistic license.

With the direction of the story, Kim Ja Jeom's character is crucial for the upcoming dethronement of King Gwanghae

    Spoiler

    The coup of 1623

Although King Gwanghaegun (光海君, 광해군) was an outstanding administrator and great diplomat, he was largely unsupported by many politicians, scholars, and aristocrats because he was not the first-born and he was born of a concubine. Greater Northerners tried to stomp out those opinions, suppressing Lesser Northerners and killing Prince Imhae (臨海君, 임해군), the oldest son of Seonjo, and Grand Prince Yeongchang (永昌大君, 영창대군), the queen's son. It was not Gwanghaegun's plan to keep his throne; and in fact, he actually tried to bring minor factions into the government, but was blocked by opposition from members of the Greater Northerners, such as Jeong In-hong and Yi Icheom.

The actions made Gwanghaegun even more unpopular among wealthy aristocrats, and they finally began plotting against him.

In 1623, members of the ultra-conservative Westerners faction, Kim Ja-jeom, Kim Ryu, Yi Gwi and Yi Gwal, launched a coup that resulted in the dethroning of Gwanghaegun, who was sent into exile on Jeju Island. Jeong In-hong and Yi Yicheom were killed, and followed suddenly by the Westerners replacing the Greater Northerners as the ruling political faction. The Westerners brought Injo to the palace and crowned him as the new King of Joseon. Although Injo was king, he did not have any authority since almost all of the power was held by the Western faction that dethroned Gwanghaegun.
