I was actually thinking how pretty Seven was crying at that moment. I totally think it was eye drops. But the good kind so it feels real. She didn't have a runny nose and blotchy face that kind of crying would display.

In the case of Luo brother (I don't know his name.. lol), I really love seeing him trying to protect all his sisters without caring whether or not his sister is a concubine's daughter. And to pair with this really kind brother, his wife is also really nice – not pretentious at all. Such a rare couple to find, especially during those days when both men & women are all wolves in sheep's clothing – they act like they're all nice but they're actually ready to backstab you from behind. 

I think as a first legal son how he was treated very differently from his sisters. In a way he's like his dad, who can seem really nice to everyone, but like Main wife in that he has more backbone.

This show is really showing us how an upbringing affect characters. People who were raised with kindness are kind, people who were spoiled end up like Qiao and Wang.

I know that. I don't think Shiyi has done any wrong to Erniang. 

But I think Erniang thinks she's been wronged. She doesn't seem like the type to have an epiphany that her younger sister has never tried to hurt her. But she might forgive her for submitting the photo and understand that she was just unlucky.

Shiyi knows too well that her sister hates her. Which is sad. I know she expects nothing from Erniang.

I guess since I am finding Erniang both pathetic and annoying I am really hoping she can be redeemed. Like can the sisters can join forces since they are both from important families. The Xu's being more powerful than the Wang's

We know Shiyi will be in trouble later with the court, will her sister step in and help her?

It’s okay. She’s MDL famous. Technically she had her own channel on YouTube. I read a lot of comments on MDL for different shows and inevitably someone mentions her. I think she’s on a Chinese Bilibli too. I do think she’s kinda funny to watch. I just know that our tastes tend to be polar opposite.

I don’t think me and AvenueX can be friends. If she want to point out the illogicalness in this drama, she better start calling out other drama too. I honestly just felt like she forced herself to watch the drama just cause it have high rating and it would be much easier to grab people’s attention this way

I’m sure she did. She’s obsessed with WOH right now. She’s not even eating or sleeping because of it. But she also hates Mary Sue characters, voice dubs, and a bunch of things I don’t really pay attention to. She gave a scathing review of the Rebel Princess so I could tell she isn’t really into this type of historical drama. 
 

I doubt she and I could be friends either. But she is popular, I think because she gives reviews in English and has some industry background. What I hate is people quote her a lot like she’s Roger Ebert of cdrama land. She’s just another viewer like us.

Really I had no idea. I haven't watched the General and I.

I have learned that AvenueX and I don't share the same taste, when she basically hated Go Ahead, whereas I loved it.

But I like the industry knowledge she provides. I know not to watch her reviews, especially if I am in the middle of watching a show. Afterwards I don't mind so much because I've already made up my mind. Anyways my reaction was less about her than it was a viewer using her review to justify their own feelings.

Watch with caution...I was a little sad.

I'm not sure if I am picky or not...I watch a lot of dramas. Probably an unhealthy amount. So I can't be that picky, but I know what I like.

I like 

- Houye - he is so in love with Shiyi. It's really sweet. Wallace is good had falling in love first. I kind of feel like it's his specialty.

- Shiye - I'm a blunt, fly off the handle kind of person so I am really loving her calm, smart, patient personality 

- The romance between the maid and Houye's subordinate Lin Bo (I think) is both cute and funny

- I don't mind the politics and war of the wives so long as Shiyi wins.

- I am enjoying their getting to know you naturally romance.

This is more than enough reasons for me to watch.

@SnT Thank you. I watched the whole thing but I don't really speak Chinese. So I missed the whole plot about getting Erniang to adopt a son.

Honestly after going back and forth with one member yesterday about whether or not Shiyi was a good person or not and then reading about AvenueX's review and some comment about White Tea B***. I was fed up.

I like watching dramas with other people and commenting about plots and characters. But it's out of hand on MDL. 

I feel like I am a simple viewer. I like the actors, I like the story, I think it flows nicely, therefore I will watch it. I know everyone is different. 

I do think continuity is a difficult thing to comment on with Cdramas because they have to go up against the censors. And I believe this was suppose to be 55 episode drama. But poor Danyang is having a lengthy pregnancy.

Anyways it was nice to wake up this morning to yours and @AwkwarDerp comments this morning. Sometimes I just get tired arguing with people.

The last bit is. Ou yx told master jian n shiyi that his brother is the organiser of the emperor birthday as he is the vice minister of rites. U cam see shiyi start brooding. Master jian asked ou yx to help draft the Shou meaning longevity (no fu sorry. My mistake). 

 

When houye saw the draft, he was like wow what good writing. N shiyi honestly told him it is ou. He start sulking n reversing his comment about the writing. Our houye is jealous in a very cute way. He went back to banyuepan n wrote a shou word himself. He thinks shiyi should like his writing better. But he can't even convince zhao ying. Haha lol. 

 

Shiyi came to banyuepan n she saw the writing which he try to hide. He says how come u din inform before u enter. Shiyi says since when i come here i need to inform u haha... He is just embarrassed.. 

 

She invited him for arrow shooting session. They r not bickering. Their conversation is very intelligently funny. Shevwas trying inflate n blow his ego saying that wow u r so good w ur arrows. It must be these bow n arrows that enhance ming dynasty troop, catch pirates, calm unrest n bring peace to the ppl. She did it in a very overly praising way. Lingyi smiled  said furen, have u ever heard of this... With every high praise sure got motives (like there is no free lunch). Hahaha he was like ya ya my dear, what do u want? Lol. 

 

Shiyi says honest from the bottom of my heart it is only if courageous n brave people like u n ur service thst brings peace to the people. those ppl who r good in study n can draw n write (emphasis the tjose who write here ok), are dependent on ppl like u. Hahaha thats it her motive is clear n he got it. She is saying my dear houye, u don need to write to impress, u r above all that. What a smart wife. N he says so... I c so is like me having a wife like u who us smart n kind that gives me all the peace to fight wars n protect the nation haha... These two r like rubbinv eavh other ego. They r intelligently teasing one another 

 

Second motive is she wants tk speak to him in a very unassuming environment. I think it is about setting the trap for the spy. 

 

Another sweetmess is when he teach her shooting. He tap her hand to say release. It is such a cute adorable move from Wallace. So natural. Amazing acting.

My goodness. I've been away from this forum for a few weeks and it's up to 43 pages. Enjoyed reading everyone's comments. It's definitely healthier vibe here. I was getting annoyed and frustrated with the audiences on MDL. I know everyone can write what they want but the vibe was really harsh.

I'm caught up to ep. 35. I wanted a break before the next couple challenge appeared. Also Erniang and Madam Xu were both getting too antangonistic to me. I know they are playing their part. But sometimes I need a break from the infighting.

Anyways love this drama.

I am curious about that too. Wallace is fairly realistic when he kisses, but Seven has usually been chaste. I know she's been working towards more mature roles. And I understand that it was pretty hot in Dear Mayang Street. So I am really looking forward for Shi Yi to return the Marquis feelings. 

Don't get me wrong I love the slow burn chemistry so far. I don't want them to rush it too much.

I like it. Janice is and the ML have good chemistry. Warning it is a melodrama, so there can be some annoying parts, for example her sister, and the ML ex-girlfriend.

Also my Mandarin is terrible, but having to listen to the ML speak with a Cantonese accent makes it even harder to understand. But it's not all of the time, so I can get over it.

Has anyone started watching this yet? I am enjoying the drama, but there are so many annoying characters.

ZQ’s acceptance of LX- LJJ relationship

 

 

The confrontation between LX & ZQ after LJJ’s post became public was heated & mean. Both were spouting off nonsense because they were blindsided & immediately wanted to defend their stance. ZQ’s hurt reaction when LJJ confirmed that she is dating LX was because naturally he felt rejected, hurt that they hid it from him & also because he felt that again he was not picked up. He told them exactly what his issue was-“Why does nobody want him?”.

 

 

So, he kept giving silent treatment to them while still cooking breakfast for them. He was upset for max. 2 epis & then naturally he let go of the hurt & accepted their relationship. They were back to becoming siblings & friends with each other. He had some heart to heart convo with LJJ & that was enough to let go. I liked how naturally it was done. There were no grand explanations & apologies but simple letting go of the anger after cooling down in few days.

 

 

ZQ confrontation with his biotrash dad & He Mei

 

 

After he received the call from his biotrash father, ZQ couldn’t hold the anger within him & immediately went off to confront HM. I really liked the scene about how LJJ & LX searched for him, informed their dads & friends about him running away & then finding him outside HM’s salon. The scene with the trio is so great were while LX is trying to comfort him by patting him, LJJ wipes off his feet & makes him wear his slipper. This unconditional care is why ZQ hugged her as if she was a lifeboat for his rescue. He calmed down from his high rage to certain extent because of LX & LJJ.

 

 

ZQ’s confrontation with HM was a watershed moment. He just doesn’t understand why can’t his bio parents leave him alone after abandoning him. He doesn’t blame them for abandoning him but instead wonders what is wrong with him that made them leave him. He says that yes he is going through financial hardships but he doesn’t want them to help him. He wants to earn money so that he could give his everything to the people who never abandoned him & supported him through thick & thin i.e. Li Ba & LJJ. They are his family & he doesn’t want the outsiders to interfere in his life.

 

 

He gives & receives comfort just from LX & LJJ’s presence after this confrontation. I like how they are one unit whenever one of them is facing a crisis. These trio’s relationship goes beyond friendship & romance & they are each other’s home. Hence, I am not worried that they would break off again. They know each other’s importance after their 9 year long separation & are ready to weather all the storms together to be never separated again.

 

 

The morning after breakfast scene just warmed my heart. The nostalgia of their teenage years came back seeing their routine. Li Ba’s talk with the trio was also good. I liked how he started off with his own shortcomings in raising them as an adult to give them perspective regarding HM. He let them know everything that he knew about her story then & left it on ZQ how he wanted to proceed his relationship with HM. I liked how LX asked LJJ to spend time with ZQ & talk with him to check his state of mind. These small subtle things show the deep bond between LX & ZQ. ZQ felt more calm & relaxed after his discussion with LJJ where he explained that though he now knows the reason why his mom left him, it still doesn’t make any difference & he has decided to let go off his anger against her.

 

 

Now in the latest episode we & ZQ both come to know that the actual reason that HM couldn’t come back was because she was jailed due to accidentally killing someone. Therefore, she decided not to continue being part of his life so that he doesn’t have to live with the stigma of a mother who was a criminal. Li Ba commented to HM that how ZQ is most like her which I had pointed out in an earlier post. Both HM & ZQ are so alike in their life philosophies- they both care deeply for their loved ones, want to give them only their best, hide all their difficulties from them. It is like even after such a long separation they both still are made from the same mold. HM loved ZQ more than anything in the world & therefore ZQ was still waiting for her because he just couldn’t understand why his mom who loved him so much did not come back for him. I am sure now that they will have a happy reconciliation & become a family again.

 

 

Also wanted to quickly point out that I like how HM- Li Ba relationship has evolved into a deeper one by each of their interactions. They are becoming confidants for each other with their common point being their unconditional love for their children. Li Ba provides HM a safe space to reveal her painful past & advises her to not distance herself from ZQ when it is only hurting both her & ZQ. She also intrigues him & he finds a counterpart to himself in her. I like this pairing & happy that they might become a couple soon. This would be the fulfilment of ZQ’s deep seated wish of having his whole family together- Li Ba, his mom & LJJ.

 

 

ZQ’s professional struggle

 

 

The show is depicting ZQ’s business struggle very well. ZQ has not given up & is giving it his all to overcome the financial hardship. He has taken a part time job at another hotel to supplement his income. He has made changes in his shop menu offering more variety. He is at least able to earn as much as the costs of running the shop & is now at least keeping his business afloat. I like how LX & ZQ discuss the business & how ZQ is able to accept financial help from LX. They really are best friends.

 

 

I would like to appreciate how the writer’s have completed this ZQ & family arc so well with the resolution coming in like 7- 8 episodes. They handled it with sensitivity & care & so realistically. So, I have confidence in them that they would be able to give a resolution to LX & his family arc also satisfyingly. They have earned my trust with their writing.
