Watching ep 36 i hv only one conclusion. Being parents are tough, being a stepmum is tougher n will get the blame in everything under the sun. Sigh... Lol. Haha... They say she scheme to exchange her wangyu marriage w Erniang. Haha lol its hilarous. I think either they dint understand the story or thry just ff too much. Shiyi was selected for houye way in the beginning by yuanniang n jiang lady wangyu sister selected Erniang to marry wangyu. Shiyi upon understanding the scheme after the party decided to run away n ended up her mum died. That's why shiyi says i never owe u Erniang anything. If Erniang had not schemed to cosy up wangyu n mislead him into thinking she is shiyi, wangyu mum will not come knocking at lou manor to see shiyi that fateful morning causing shiyi to be delayed in meeting her mum. Shiyi would hv successfully run away n ErNiang will marry houye as the replacement wife was their top priority. So it was Erniang who in a way owe shiyi for her mum death. Upon returning back from the murder scene, she suddenly become wangyu hesrt desire besides grieving for her mum. God she was only 15 then. After recovering from the death event, she started to feel and any normall person will feel something amiss n think maybe he got the wrong person as their first and only encounter was a quarelling match in xianlinge n wangyu will prob beat her up then. So the right thing to do was send her own portrait to confirm w wamgyu. How on earth would she expect wangyu to come barging into the house n kiss Erniang. She has NO idea wangyu was into Erniang all along. Deal is seal with that kiss. Erniang is tarnished by wangyu d. Looking at the whole pic i don see amy evil scheme from shiyi to get out n get erniang in. So my guess is these ppl who complain about this plt really did not understand the story. Sigh.. Technically, i insist she never ran away from marrying houye because at that point after the party, yuanniang is pretty much still aiive. She could hv live on n get well n cont to be houye wife n in btw there can be so much other possiblities too. N there is never a fornal bethothal of shiyi n houye until the sister death bed scene (by then Erniang is married to wamgyu d) n no one specifically says she is to msrry houye. It is just a guess on everyone part becsuse shiyi was with her sister when encountering qiao half undress w houye. So houye was right when Erniang brought it up in ep 34 to make them feel bad. He says... These are all in the past. It doesnt matter. She is my wife now. I feel it is even better he knows because it is a confirmation she never wanted to marry him n would not hv scheme together w yuanniang. It cinfirm what he already knows. N it is not like he had wanted to marry her n love her then as well. Nothing to complain about right. So what matter to him is does she love me now after all thsy they hv experienced n after showing her how he felt. I love how the script write xulingyi. He is sensible n doesnt dwell on petty things in the past. I think dad is just a nice guy. N madane luo has been using her dowry to support the family since the dad lost his court position. I believe many of u are right, shiyi just understand how madame luo is selfish n grab everything for her family. Her center is the luo family, her children n hubby. So no matter how much she dislike the madame, she tolerate her. N don go against her upfront. But she doesn't necessarily follow her ways. She listened n go back doing her own things.

Also i still don understand shiyi for madame luo. She n her mum was obviously tortured n abused by her. Madame luo only want to use her for chunge n alliances w xu. I never get the feeling shiyi is scare of her but she seems quite demure and obedient whenever madame luo summon her. I don understand this bit. Should she not at least dislike her n don want to put up w her demands? She was never never rude to her. Looks like besides Erniang who is avbit screwed. All the luo children are rather well brought up, kind n gentle. I believe yuanniang wasn't bad too. Just taught by her mum to play the scheming game too. much.

Anyone has any idea whose daughter is wuniang. She is kind n innocent n like not being tortured like Erniang n shiyi Niang. Is she a younger daughter of madame luo too? Maybe a concubine daughter but no mother d, so wuniang was rear under madame luo? The brother n yuanniang is definitely the first born son n daughter of madame luo. My thoughts on his journey to fall in love: After that un consumated session, all his actions esp up to kidnapping saga ep 12 is about keeping his promise to yuanniang to give shiyi the dignity accorded to the first wife. So he kept an eye for her. Maybe it is like taking care of a young person under his care. Defend her in front of madame luo, pick her up when he got back found his family send her to country home over sonething like silly superstition, indirectly scold qiao with 5 poison flower analogy over the brocade issue, reminding her about the account holding rights. For me through this events, his protecttive instinct is activated. N of course he stsrt to notice she is different. Cause she doesn't want him nor the money or power bit. Only after chunge illness he started to see how responsible n calm she can be n how gentle and understanding she is. I remembered i saw him looking at shiyi tapping chunge hand n later when he wss w linbo at the militsry office, when he recall what happen, the shot shows his hands rubbing against each other. Subconsciously, these are shiyi quality that start to attract him. I think them spending so much time together taking csre of chunge really sooth him too. I see him as a man yearning for gentle, soothing n a peaceful family life w a wife who understand him. After 5 wives imckuding tong, he gave up n just hide in his cold hard shell. N remember linbo says he used to laugh n go with his heart desire like play polo n zither. He is after all not the elder son.. So now he is highly suppressed. So shiyi stsrt to bring out those suppressed qualities like his cheekiness (he love teasing her, linbo n zhaoying) boyishness (asking for return present, throwing temper at his surbodinates when shiyi ignore him, wearing those shoes, keeping those shoes, haha). Its like she light up something in him. Porridge saga is a big cstalyst. This is not only a gentle n soothing woman that dont go petty over the usual women stuffs, she is actually amazingly unselfish, responsible, clever, think big and very all rounded. N she doesnt ask for his favour or reward after that. He was the one rushing to give her rewards. And It is like what he says wow if she is a man, she will do big things. He saw a woman who is worthy to stand by his side n he saw a good partner in her.. U cam see he start to discuss things w her like ou family grievance, when feng ching arrive he look for her, Settling feng ching again show her ability to be a good partner to him by giving him the peace of mind.everytime they talked, he felt comforted. N he felt so good she understand n trust him enough. Well we all know he is a goner by then. He just doesnt fully acknowledge that till ep. 22.

Interesting how they pick a guy w smallish single ey lid almond eyes as houye. Through the whole script they talked about their children eyes. See the eyes know they are xu kids. Haha except chunge all hv single eye lid smallish almomd eyes. Yes. N i always wonder which set is the one she 'made' for him. Looks lik shoes more precious haha.

I love his beginnih grey ones too. Esp the one he wore to receive the shoes n the grey one when he first reach home.

Ruyi m yunxi weakness is the script which is vety illogical in many places. N jjy acting which is somehow wooden esp her eyes. Zzh is fabulous in look m acting. Ruyi is better thsm yunxi in every sense. But the ending also not so satisfying. No kids n no kiss too but final bed scene at least is sweet.

@OsmanthusTea my guess is master jian. I think all the concubine are out. Our xu men will only love 1 lady haha... If that littke boy is danyang n wuye son then it should be shiyi will be pregnant soon. Haha... Because the little boy looks a bit older than the gal. It will be my dream come true if they show shiyi pregnant n giving birth to a gal. Xu has house full of boys, yuge, chunge, jiege, wuye son (ep 35). They need a little shiyi houye to spoil to bits.

That is a good point. If no initial tricks, then no bad blood, n he likes her in the beginning, he happily say he want to marry no one but her. Thsts why the mum set off to take a look at 'shiyi'. In fact wangyu is a good cstch since he will have a Duke title. Only son. Just family no power in court. Like shiyi says whatever life throws at, u have to walk ur journey with guts n be brave. If they stsrted well n ErNiang may hv the ability to keep hin interested or at least soft towards her, he may not change his philandering n drinking way, but at least not so abusive. Erniang also hold too much grudges. She refused to be in touch w the luos sfter marrying. Their brother is a nice chap, 5th sister is nice n shiyi of course is willing to help. She turned everyone away before n now. After houye warned wangyu, he stopped beating Erniang d. So shiyi must be told houye. Erniang like shiyi says instead of be brave n find ways to make things better, she just moan n blame everyone else for her misfortune. She could hv used her luo n xu connection to avoid being abused at least.

Tbh i watched the qiao n houye final showdown scenes few times too. Esp when they were alone. Boy i love their interactions. Moment he walked in n she says how she sees him as the nicest looking person she had ever seen n start to love him for years... He hong san did a good job. Her saying i love u for so long, why cant u see it n Her hands going towards him n finally stopped because she finally knew it is hopeless. N the music came on. From pleading to final giving up. So sad n heartbreaking.

Cant help it is all over weibo, Instagram, YouTube the scenes haha... But it is first time i notice he cried. I saw her tears alright. N he even wipe the tear that roll down to the corner of her mouth.. Haha they prob used eye drop. How to cry so handsomely/prettily n nicely? Lol

Wallace is perfect as xu lingyi. No question he brought life to the character. Hope his hardwork is acknowledged. Instead of trash by some reviewers. Totally agree. In the old days in most culture u do it only on ur wedding night. Even when u fall in love, u wait till marriage. Showing thst the deed is love pure n sacred. I believed nature of men don change much over time. When u truly love some u can wait till they love u with their body n heart. N men dont think so much. If they like a gal they would court n woo them. So when HouYe realise in ep 22 he want to open his heart to her. He had the patience to wait till it is fully reciprocated. But i believe all fans wanting the consummate scene fast fast is because we want to see them in love. Haha... But we hv our fun watching the courtship of houye, the I dont know if u like me stage is always so fun to watch as well.
