Just read an interview with the writer of the drama, and would like to share a couple things she said, which I find interesting.

It took the writer four years to adapt the novel to the screen, and lots of changes have been made. In the original novel (same name, published in 2012), XKL is a soldier and MK is a military doctor. They kept the profession, but decided to make XKL a SWAT police and MK a normal doctor instead, to make it easier to design the plots. 

The XKL character in the novel is more experienced and shrewd in relationships. However, when doing field studies with actual SWAT police, she realized that they are very simple people and usually do not have much dating experiences. Hence, the writer decided to change XKL into the type of character we see now. I must say this definitely made the person much more cute and relatable. :-))))

As for MK, they think it is important for her to have her own career. She can be naive in love, but not simple minded. She needs to have a strong personality.

They also decided that they would not do love triangles just to make it dramatic. They are like: the audience knew from the beginning that the two leads will end up together, why toying with their emotions (AMEN!!!). They want the audience to be relaxed and happy when they watch the drama. :-)

The writer also talked about how the plot will move forward from now, and the focus will be on personal growth. She said that it will be about smaller things in life, which will be relatable to the audience, and it will make them grow individually and collectively in the relationship. 

Finally, the writer commented on the two leads and contributed lots of the success to them. She said that Bai Jingting has surprised them greatly - he would design lots of details and dimensions when he acted, while Sandra Ma suits the character well as MK needs to be stubborn while sharp at the same time.

I really like the new BTS from today. It shows that there are quite some improvisation in their scenes. Just like @NiteWalker said, the director is good at letting them play out without stoping them. I feel that many scenes we saw were supposed to be NG (like here, he took her to the wrong side of the car), but they decided to keep it because it is so natural and funny. 

Rough translation

BJT: (in a truly military marching tone) turn right, go in step

MSC: how to go in step? (hahahaha)

BJT: get in the car first

MSC: my seat is on the other side

Director: cut... do you want to put her in the back seat?

BJT: I forgot

(So this is the scene outside the hospital when he told her that he only had two hours before they went to eat the raw pig brain :-)))) I think the original line for XKL when MK asked "do you have to go back to the camp to spend the night" is "yes, we need to get married". something along the line... Two of them think it is too cheesy and out of character at that point, and which is why XKL said "yes, you cut my life line short" instead.)

BJT: when you came, I would hide here

MSC: that's good. then it is normal that I didn't see you.

BJT: no, no, it should be like this. "Where are you" "I am here" (hahaha, BJT is such a dork)

The BTS is wayyyyy toooooo short... but I guess I am grateful that they even have one. 

I feel that what is coming plot wise is to expose the more human side of Xing KeLei. So far he has been delivering everything we ask for and more, but as you guys said, he is just a human, so he has his vulnerabilities. I remember what is said to Mika about the celebrity patient, something along the line of "underlying all the hard surface, there is always tenderness", which at the time I felt was foreshadowing XKL. I guess I just hope that they would use the later plot to further develop the character rather than simply a tool to get the story going...

I guess he is just frustrated, which I can understand. There is a preview bit where he was being interviewed by Xiao Xia. Xiao Xia asked him whether he has thought about not being a swot police, and he said no and ended the interview. I think he already knew about his disease (a benign tumor in his brain) and he was scared about not being a police. His family is very well off, and he does have a choice if he doesn't want to be a police. So I think he is really passionate about what he does, and he is also not used to not being the strongest.

I hope the preview is just trying toy with our emotions (which is often the case). I have faith in XKL and MK to handle this in a mature way.

Favorite scenes: every time these two interact. I mean, seriously, how can they be so awkward yet cute at the same time. The acting is really natural and relatable.

The scene where XKL picks her at the hospital and told her that he has two hours. Then he took her to the driver side of the car by mistake... It is so nice that they kept scenes like this because it is so relatable

Ok. Just finished the two episodes... I have to agree with @Tofu that it feels a bit like fillers, but I guess it is necessary since the rescue is a serious issue and they need to deal it thoroughly. Also, in terms of the main couple, the concern they have for each other during times like this only builds up their feelings until the climax when Mika finally realizes who XKL is. I like it that they wait until now for the recognition to happen, because regardless of who XKL is, Mika already likes him, so she likes him as a guy, not because he saved her life. I guess this is also why XKL waited so long.

Two things to rant about: the delivery scene with Xiao Xia is a bit ridiculous. They made it look so easy but it is very dangerous procedure. Second, why did Mika have to go back and retrieve the emergency pack?! I understand that she needs it as they don't have that much of supply, and it is a gift from XKL... but come on, you are in a mine and you should get up as soon as you can! I guess it is for the trope... Oh well, I just need to remind myself that I am here for the couple, not the plot.

Best scene: Mika tries to hold XKL's hand when he was about to go down the mine and realized that his hands are very warm/hot. She asked him why are your hands so warm? He answered: maybe because I am a warm guy. :-)))))))

That scene is one of my favorite, because I did not expect it at all. The way she said his name, and the way he reacted... really touching and sweet! It made you feel all kinds of things. 

This scene, together with the silent salute scene at the earthquake site, are my favorite so far. The drama does a good job in capturing these small things and subtle feelings.

Yay for joining us! I think this month, Chinese dramas have step it up a bit that I am finding myself more excited for their dramas. In Korean dramaland right now, most of the dramas out are on the darker side. It's always nice to have something a little lighter to balance everything out. I never used to be a huge fan of costume dramas but for the past several months, that's all I've watched so watching a modern day drama was kind of off my radar -- modern day dramas were something I binged through if they sounded interesting but usually do not catch them when they are airing. I think the last one was Go Ahead and even with that, I finished the drama weeks after it finished airing. 

 

I think most people had little expectation for the drama because it was getting compared to DoTs a lot (also didn't help that it aired the same week as Rattan and Sword/Brocade is still airing). I read that some people even avoided watching the drama because of the similarities in the synopsis. I'm glad that I decided to watch this despite that because it's been such a nice little treat. Like you, I really enjoyed the small interactions Kelei and Mi Ka have. One of my favorite scenes is still when they console each other after Kelei's friend/member of his team was shot. I didn't really expect both of them to have that deep of a conversation because they are still in the courting stage. I think a lot of vulnerabilities were shown in that scene and it allowed both of them to get to know each other on a much deeper level. 

 

Please continue to spazz about this drama with us! It'll make us a little less crazy because I think the rest of the members on the forum think we've all lost it.

I agree with you that sometimes we just need a lighthearted drama like this to feel good and happy, especially in times like this.

I think I had some prejudice against Cdrama with a modern setting, since they tend to be cheesy and too propaganda-ish, so I used to only watch costume Cdrama (shout out to joy of life!!! and can't wait for season 2). This drama is the first modern one I watched in years. I also like the fact that they use the actors' voice rather than dubs - it doesn't hurt that BJT has a very nice voice! :-)))))

Judging from the reactions on Weibo, I think the drama is gaining more tractions than expected, despite the competitions. Netizens are collectively drooling over BJT and hashtags such as "I want a boyfriend like Xing Kelei" or "BJT should tatoo the uniform on him" got quite popular. The fact that both leads are awkward in love is making people laugh while squeal at the same time. People are like "the plots are cliche but for some reason I can't stop watching" hahaha

It is funny that I started to watch Who's the Murderer because of Zhang Ruoyun after Joy of Life. Then slowly slowly I realized that this BJT is handsome, funny, and cute... so I start to follow him more. He has so many good lines in the show and he is REALLY smart. I look forward to watching the last episode of S6.

I have watched this one! They both are super cute and I love their banter. There is another show they did together with four other guys (e.g., Wang Kai), which is called Fighting Man. I heard that it is quite funny.

And yes, BJT and Tan SongYun will be featured in this new drama called Our New Era. It is supposed to be a propaganda drama and they will lead a section called "because we have family/home" which is suppoed to be about how they lead a village out of poverty through e-commerce ;-))))) 

Hello everyone, newcomer here.

I have been lurking on this forum so far, but can't help to post something now for this drama.

I don't watch that many CDrama (especially modern CDrama) though I am native Chinese ;-) I have been in Kdrama land because of Kim SooHyun the last year or so... 

But... the pandemic made me start watch Who's the Murderer, and I started to like Bai Jingting.

This is the first drama of him I watch, and honestly I didn't have high expectations (I thought the pairing was a bit weird).

And 14 episodes in, how wrong was I...?!

What makes the drama stand out for me is how it portraits the littles things/interactions between the CPs, both the main one and the secondary one. The acting is also very natural, which makes it so relatable. Except the life-saving part, the interactions between Xing Kelei and Mi Ka are mostly about small things, but you can really feel the feelings they feel, which made this extremely addictive... I lost count of how many times I rewatched their interaction bits. 

Of course, Bai Jingting in uniforms! He really pulled it off and made it very convincing... and handsome as hell!!! 

The only question is why they only release 8 episodes a week - wayyyyy toooo slow!!!!
