@abs-oluteM Just like Unasked Family, i just think it will be a timeskip in the last episode. I don't think we will get a wedding. I will just be happy if we get YY,KJ,Mirinae scenes in the last episode. I hate the idea of separating leads until the last few episodes. You can still make a good story without it. Plenty of others good daily where the leads had episodes of them as married. Mostly the older ones. Bravo My Life did it decently.

I sincerely hope we get a scene in the last episode like in the dream KJ had. You can't tease us like that and just leave us hanging in the end.

I have some faith in the next daily drama.

@Zoaze, I started watching Bravo My Life daily this year. You’re encouraging me to continue. Just didn’t like ML’s uncle’s son obsession with second female lead and his mother’s treatment of ML.

I also hope that we do get scenes of KJ, MR and YY as a family. I most definitely hope they ditch the nonsense of living in the same house with ES. @abs-oluteM,  I hope KJ stick to his dream. It never made sense to me that they would live with ES anyway.

This writer really needed to stretch this huh? Does YY need permission given all that KJ has done? The man almost lost his life for crying out loud. I rolling my eyes at YY's MIL. That woman has multiple personalities or what?

    Thanks for recaps @Zoaze

I understand the whole “respect the elders” principle but this is simply ridiculous. The MIL has already used up all the grace and respect that was due to her. First, she didn’t want YY with her precious son and she wanted her to abort MR. Then she still blames YY for her son’s death even though she already learned the truth of what happened.

All I can hope for is that YY and MR don’t live with her. It’s very unhealthy to have someone like her around on a daily basis who is not only supported and enabled in her meanness but she’s also a person that has not changed one bit through at least five years already.

Actually, they might do a twist in having HH be the donor instead of KJ. Otherwise, why would they include the scene of her finding out about Mirinae's condition? What do you guys think if that's the case?

I wondered if that would be a twist too after reading she was told about it but like @abs-oluteM, I want the donor to be KJ. It would be more meaningful that way. It would shut up the awful-to-the-end ES as well or so I hope because it’s long past due for her to hush that miserable mouth of hers.

Both Grandpa and KJ dad absolutely adore Mirinae. Mirinae was outside with SJ and they were kicking a ball and Mirinae fell while SJ helped her. KJ returned home and saw it and ran towards Mirinae pissed at SJ. KJ is in full protective mode and currently furious. It was a sweet family scene. Pity it will be the last one for awhile. Mirinae is singing while everyone is gathering around the couch. KJ was giving death stares. ES sent picture to HK and HK showed HM. They are both shocked with CY in jumpsuit. Mirinae wanted more milk and went to the kitchen and was together with HH. HH helped her.

They talked and HH looked nervous or something. Mirinae and YY is leaving and KJ walks them out. Mirinae wants to go somewhere and YY say hes probably busy. I think Mirinae say that she wants to go snow sleigh and want to go as family saying YY eomma and KJ appa. KJ say lets go now and ep ends.

YY and KJ outing which will be the last until the end im sure since the breakup will almost certainly happen next week. KJ,YY,Mirinae outing in the preview. KJ confront SJ in the preview also.

    Episode 99 Preview

Youngi and Gyeongjun take Mirinae to the sledding range. While Youngi is having a happy time, he carefully observes Gyeongjun's mood, which seems to have calmed down somewhat.
That night, Kyung-Jun calls Young-I to the playground near his house and tells him that he has no time to spend with Young-I in the future...

Thanks for this. If KJ and YY will breakup for a time, I hope MR isn’t too much affected since she seems to already have expectations of KJ. I don’t want her to get hurt.

Regarding SJ, this might be the chance for him to release his burden. It will be hard to face everything instead of running away but ultimately, he would be able to move pass it by properly facing the issue. Time and healing will take care of the rest.

  5. @ktcjdrama, you always commented on HM’s pathetic behavior and her failure to value herself like her grandmother pointed out. I guess her attempted suicide will be the rock bottom. This lady has really lost it. I don’t understand why she’s so obsessed with winning KJ because I really don’t think it’s love at this point. I’m glad YY family is already acquainted with KJ because at least they would know that KJ never led HM on.

@abs-oluteM Yeah, but writer seems to copy paste everything from previous drama. So it will probably end up happening. Wouldnt put it past HM either to lie that the child is KJ's. But i don't think it will happen so late. Still alot of things to get done in about 40 eps. HH is so fake. Atleast KJ and Grandpa see right through her.

Seems like KJ dad gave his permission. According to naver comments.

Which previous drama is that? Bravo My Life? If it’s that one, I was very pleased that the second leads did not end up together in the end. It felt so much more realistic that way after all the drama they had. I couldn’t even believe it when they both moved on.

@abs-oluteM, I also hope that SJ doesn’t end up with HM. We already lost EJ to a useless man and I can foresee her working hard for the rest of her life to support at least two “children”, that is, the one in her belly and the one who got her pregnant. I don’t want to see SJ end up with a woman like his mother. I think he can do better.

  7. I’m here wondering if SJ will be the one to save YY from any evil plot of his terrible mother and alleged father. He’s probably the only one aware of the situation and would sense the danger if he discovers WS is hovering around YY and her family.

I love how the Chairman found out that it was HM who harmed his company. It reveals to him what kind of person she is to do such a malicious thing and out of personal reasons, no less, just to put YY in trouble. What kind of company manager does that kind of thing? That is always a ground for termination.

  8. I honestly wish YY would leave with her child. This woman is ridiculous. Apparently only she alone feels the pain of the death of her son. I remember she wanted YY and DJ to abort MR. She also blames YY for calling her husband about her pregnancy pains. The terrible thing about it is that everyone in that house enables her victim mentality. I know the grandmother tried to talk to her but they still try to accommodate her feelings in the end.

YY should tell her that she’ll leave if she gives back the hard earned money that her precious son lost. I don’t know how YY hasn’t felt like an outsider in that house all this time since her husband died. It might be because she tries to repay them by doing everything they ask after working all night at the convenience store and sleeping little when she gets home. She tries to earn a place there by being good to them. Her breakdown over the lost money revealed just how hard and sacrificial she’s been living.

@abs-oluteM Yep. They have a 18 years age gap in real life and 12 years in the drama but their chemistry is on fire. Also it started later in the drama so. They also were among those who won best couple award. Which is amazing since they aren't the main leads of the drama. But they are the favorites and most popular couple in the drama. Problem is MY daughter is dating SR ex-fiancee. Who is a greedy scum. We waiting for him to be exposed.

Ji Hye(MR Daughter) is very kind and naive and innocent. So we hoping writer doesnt ruin her and she will support her father.

I like them the most too. I enjoy their story and scenes. The stationery part is so cute and MY seems like a quiet man so it was amusing seeing SY slowly build an acquaintance with him first at the Pilates studio then over stationery.

With the main couple, as if they didn’t have enough issues, I cannot stand the plot of a secret son. It just added more issues upon issues.

HH 😡 am speechless.  why do these type of mothers get away with these bullying behaviors!

Let’s see how high her horse will be when everyone finds out about her complicity in YY’s former husband’s incident. HH’s voice and diction have always grate on my nerves before I even get to the evil content of her speech. She’s always plotting against KJ and now she has an irrational hatred for YY. Every time I hear KJ address her as mother to please his utterly stupid father, I cringe. I can’t wait for him to be freed from the shackle of calling her mother. I hope that her part in his blindness is also exposed some day soon. KJ said he’s been planning for five years so I hope he gets a good outcome.

  11. @abs-oluteMI second it hard that I don’t want SJ to be hooked up with HM. That would just be a carbon copy of his mother. I sometimes hope that the girl from his past would reappear or he finds someone else completely opposite of his mother. I just can’t see HM changing her personality and her personality is a problem.

Am I the only one hoping to see HH on her knees before YY some day? The way she has treated YY so far, even going as far as ordering security to manhandle her, I can’t help but wish to see her on her knees begging for forgiveness before YY after all is revealed about her part in covering up the accident.

As to YY’s MIL, while this woman is a bit better than HM and HH, the way she treats YY is like her servant. I can’t wait for YY to get away from her. Her son, DS, gets on my nerves. It’s a pity that EJ seems destined to end up with him. I foresee her taking care of him for the rest of her life.

I hope so too... Let's think of the intro sequence of just putting the second leads together in one frame for easy presentation, not meaning they're going to be an item.

I hope so too. I really hope SJ doesn’t end up with her. She got much worse after I posted that High Heels is the one that grates on my nerves. Now HM is right up there. The way she conducts herself as a supervisor is totally unprofessional. She has basically threatened YY in her capacity as a manager all because of her personal and territorial feelings towards KJ. She’s also not suited for someone like SJ who doesn’t need another High Heels in his life. I hope there’s someone else for SJ.

The actor is the male lead in daily show Brilliant Heritage. There are 120 episodes of him. It’s a similar feel drama to this drama in that it’s not over-the-top and is more family-oriented. The actress who plays HM’s mother is also in that daily.

High Heels is the character that irks me the most in this drama. HM is spoilt and entitled but I don’t mind her as much since KJ remains adamant in his refusal.

I’m watching it for the first time. I’m currently on episode 28. The only thing I wished for is that they wouldn’t keep breaking up the main couple.  Anyway, I do love both of the couples: the sisters and their generals.

I also keep wondering when is Fu Rong going to remember that her dead master warned her against keeping company with Duke An. I didn’t like the guy from the first time I saw him but is Fu Rong really going to be deceived by him to the end? I hope not.

    Love O2O

    微微一笑很倾城

    Director: Lin Yufen

Writer: Gu Man, Shen Feixuan, Wen Ting, Ou Yang, Good Story Workship

Based on: A Smile is Beautiful by Gu Man

    Original Broadcast: 22 Aug - 6 Sept 2016

Main Cast: Zheng Shuang, Yang Yang

    source: wikipedia.org

Love O2O is a romantic comedy about Bei WeiWei, an underclassman who is considered the beauty of her university computer science department, and Xiao Nai, a senior in the same computer science department and considered to be a god by all of the students.

In addition to being a model student, Bei WeiWei is also a prolific online gamer whose character Luwei WeiWei is married to Zhenshui Wuxiang in the game “A Chinese Ghost Story” at the start of the drama. However, Zhenshui Wuxiang, played by the scion of a wealthy family, Zhen Shaoxiang, wants to meet for real, and when WeiWei refuses, he becomes suspicious that WeiWei must be ugly or even a man. So, he divorces her to marry a character played by a girl who is considered pretty in real life, and who quickly becomes his girlfriend.

WeiWei soon pairs up with Yixiao Naihe, who unbeknownst to WeiWei is played by their university’s most popular student, Xiao Nai, who WeiWei has a crush on in real life. Xiao Nai, however, knows who WeiWei is, having seen her play her character at an internet cafe and been impressed with how fast and dextrous she was at the controls of the game. So, Xiao Nai has deliberately approached Luwei WeiWei to form their partnership.

In real life, Xiao Nai comes from a good family with both of his parents being university professors at the university he attends. He also has 3 dorm mates who are his friends and with whom he plans to start up a tech development business once they graduate. There is also a second lead, a rich girl who is the cousin of WeiWei’s ex-virtual husband and considered to be the prettiest on the campus, who has a crush on Xiao Nai and keeps trying to arrange situations so that he will ask her out.

WeiWei comes from one of the provinces instead of a metropolitan area from a comfortable family. She also has 3 dorm mates who are her best friends, however, none of them are gamers, until her best friend Zhao Erxi starts playing.

One of the things that this drama does well is that it plays with the parallel worlds of online communities/relationships versus real world communities/relationships, and how they may bleed into the other, but are also different from each other. Bei WeiWei is firm about the lines between her real life as a student and her online persona, but that line is definitively crossed when Xiao Nai is revealed to be her online husband Yixiao Naihe. There are also instances of confused real life versus online identities, including one that fuels a secondary romance between Zhao Erxi and Cao Guang, a second year student who has a RL crush on WeiWei and thinks that he is gaming with WeiWei’s online character due to a misunderstanding. They also discuss the transient nature of online friendships, how someone can suddenly disappear one without a word and no way to find out what happened, and that is not unusual.

There are moments of satisfaction as when people who have assumed things based on their own prejudices and ego are brought down a peg, such as when Zhensui Wuxiang finally meets WeiWei face to face to realize that his ex-virtual wife is much prettier, smarter, nicer, and more modest than the woman he had traded her in for. It’s a measure of his shallowness that he immediately tries to make moves on WeiWei, showing off his personal wealth

There are a lot of other things going on in this drama apart from the various romances. For instance, there is the David vs Goliath struggle as Xiao Nai’s start up firm competes for development contracts with Zhen Shaoxiang’s father’s established company. As well as Xiao Nai’s ambitious plans to develop a new game engine that would allow for much richer graphics on games without overwhelming either devices or networks. Interestingly enough, there is also a small subplot about going up against an American company about intellectual property rights which Xiao Nai’s firm wins handily, of course. This sub-plot was interesting actually given how much international and US news deals with IP theft by Chinese firms and agencies, and this felt like a bit of a jingoist response to that.

There is also an allusion to homosexual love that was so lightly tread that I didn’t realize what was going on for the longest time. It made for an engaging drama, even when it wasn’t focused on the OTP interactions. It feels like a thoughtful, playful study about relationships both virtual and real life and how they can both be real.

This drama does have some weaknesses though. The first is that the leads Zheng Shuang and Yang Yang are both gorgeous, but not the strongest actors. Since I don’t understand Chinese, I had to rely on the subtitles plus the way the actors emoted to follow what was going on.

I’m not sure that I bought into Zheng Shuang as a super gamer or a computer scientist. Even more importantly, I’m not sure how much I truly believed that she was so into Xiao Nai. More frequently, she seemed content to stand there being beautiful and let the other actors react to her beauty. I suppose my strongest criticism may be during their kiss scenes where she had the classic look and reactions of a doe frozen in the headlights even as Xiao Nai finally loosens his control in his desire for her. This is after they had been dating for months, btw. Also, visually Zheng Shuang is extremely thin and her stylist seemed to put her into outfits that accentuated her gauntness which made her seem less like a beauty who is famous campus-wide. Not to mention I had to laugh at a scene where she complains about how stuffed she is after eating a few spoonfuls of fish broth.

Yang Yang was much better but his acting also felt bit stilted. However, he had the advantage that he’s supposed to be playing a tsundere character and so not required to be as expressive. Plus, there were enough bromance scenes of him playing basketball, swimming, biking, etc. that I could sit back and admire his beauty.

The cast who surround the two gorgeous leads seem very good, however, and that kept the various side stories interesting to follow. The entire cast was pretty much a young cast, though, except for a brief interlude for a subplot involving Xiao Nia’s father.

The game world that they created looked beautiful with the aesthetics, details and flourishes of the most immersive games, and stood in contrast to when they took the action to the real world which was more mundane. It helped to underscore the differences in interactions online versus real world, and also led to some juxtapositions as relationships started bleeding a bit into both worlds.

There is also an interesting point made that the art in the games may actually help to replace the knowledge of their cultural art in the young, especially as opportunities to see that art was disappearing or limited in the real world.

All in, I felt that this was a good, interesting romance, but telling a story that was richer than just a romance. I would definitely recommend it to a friend to watch, even if it’s considered a bit kitschy by other Chinese viewers. It allows for a relatively easily understood entry point into C-dramas, set in the modern day with modern day concerns and can be enjoyed even with a minimum of knowledge of the Chinese culture. Aside from some of the jingoism, it was thoroughly enjoyable to watch as a foreigner.

And, I think it has a good re-watch value, because I have watched it more than once, and it wasn't just for Yang Yang's smile.

Love your review. The bolded part is one of the reasons why I couldn’t believe the girl liked the boy. She was practically frozen up when he kissed her. I don’t know why this actress take drama with kissing if she’s going to react that way. Better yet, maybe the show could have done without kissing if she was going to kill the make-believe. And usually Chinese actors do better at kissing than the stilted pressed lips in Kdrama shows. Quite a few Chinese actors have mastered the art of kissing without actually kissing for real.

Yang Yang was real nice eye candy in that show though. Currently I can’t bring myself to rewatch this mainly because of the lead girl. I liked the story though. They should do a remake in the future with different actors or maybe even in Korea.

About the movie, I preferred the acting in there. The male lead is not as handsome as YY but he’s passable and his acting or character was not as standoffish as YY’s version. Angela baby was much better as Wei Wei to me.

I am assuming that he is from the same country as A'Fei because of how her dad immediately left to help Anping Army when he learned of General Wang Lin's death. Anping Army is General Wang Lin's army who's main mission is to help restore Xie Yun to the throne.

It doesn't say in the drama why he was sent as a hostage to another country, but if we're basing this off the real person that Xie Yun was inspired from (Xiao Zhuang), that person was sent as a hostage to make peace. More about Xiao Zhuang in the spoiler tag.

      Hide contents

Xiao Zhuang was considered the last emperor of the Liang Dynasty which is considered the third of the Southern Dynasties. He was sent to Northern Qi, which is considered one of the Northern Dynasties. The real General Wang Lin wanted to restore Liang Dynasty so requested assistance from Northern Qi to return Xiao Zhuang. He declared Xiao Zhuang the emperor. Xiao Zhuang actually goes back to the Northern Qi after there was an attack and General Wang Lin was defeated. If you want to learn more, you can definitely just look up Xiao Zhuang. During my research (I did it earlier on in the drama so I can have a better understanding), Xiao Zhuang lived a very sad life where he eventually died at an early age (I think he was in his mid-late 20s).

Going back to Legend of Fei, in one of the episodes, there was a storyteller who told a story, where the drama made it seem like he was retelling Xie Yun's life story. The storyteller said that, his hometown was under attack which led him to wander the world. He met a Taoist priest who taught him incredible skills. Many years later, he returned and joined the army (I'm assuming Anping Army) to restore the state of his hometown. He led the army, fighting in many wars. He fell into a trap and was poisoned. He gave up his ambition and decided to become a monk.

In episode 16, Xie Yun was sharing his new story he was writing to A'Fei and Chuchu. He said that it was about someone who thought he was a hero and would return home with honor to marry the person he love. He soon learned that he was nothing but a pawn to the government and they did not regard him as a human being. He was considered a living bait to lure enemies and his mission would be completed once he was dead. Upon realizing this (which seems to be after he was poisoned), he decided to fled and never return to this kind of life.

I think that Xie Yun's life story is roughly a combination of these two scenes in some compacity. It seems like we will meet Xie Yun's master in today's episodes so maybe more light will be shed on who Xie Yun really is and how he came to meet his master.

Thanks so much for the insight. It helps me a lot to understand. I figured that the story Xie Yun told A’Fei and Chuchu was about himself too. He doesn’t seem like he wants to walk the path of an emperor though. Another thing is it seems like he gets along with the third prince and doesn’t have much desire to get involved in a succession war between the two princes. I would prefer that he lives a life outside the palace but then what is the goal of A’Fei’s father if that army is dedicated to restoring Xie Yun to the throne. I hope Xie Yun doesn’t die young but I suppose I can accept it if he does. There’s that one scene in the opening theme where A’Fei is dressed in a red dress sitting in the snow and she looks forlorn and Xie Yun is close by looking like he’s unconscious or lifeless.

It seems as if she was pressured into it because the Chairman was such a powerful figure. Without explicitly saying so, there are the earmarks of sponsorship for young, attractive, female reporters. It seems as if GO's birth mother was trapped in it, and then later she gave up a job and introduced HR into it instead, except HR actually married her guy only to realize that it was a living hell. It's interesting that HR blamed GO's mother for the situation that she HR had found herself in, as if GO's mother had known, in the way that HR couldn't, what that position would entail.

On the other hand, it's interesting that GO's mother had written to the Chairman all those years ago asking him to take care of their son. Wonder why she would do that when she had given GO up to HR since she was on the run from GO's half-sister who was trying to kill the mother and GO.

I just want GO to be safe and loved, and with his beloved mother HR. The Chairman is not the right person to raise GO, and even if the birth mother is still alive, she's probably in no condition to take care of him either, whereas HR has always put GO first.

I thought that He Ra blames Ga On’s birth mother because she recommended her for the position and then she was raped or sexually assaulted in a private room by the future husband during a business party. I get the impression that He Ra probably married the awful husband because of that situation. Before she was sexually assaulted, I recall a scene where a male worker at the news station was telling another female worker that Ga On’s birth mother didn’t do any favor by recommending He Ra. He said He Ra might think so but she’ll soon find out. So, it seems like people at the news station knew this stuff was going on. I think that’s why He Ra blamed he sister because she knew what type of world she recommended He Ra to but He Ra didn’t know.

About Cha’s sister and the CEO, I guess I hoped that she would be one of those women who would die with their dignity. Heh.

  18. @Tofu, thank you for bringing up Xie Yun’s former home. I always wanted clarification on that. I understand he’s the emperor of the former dynasty. I guess he’s the surviving heir from the palace where I presume his parents were killed. The eunuch who saved him took him to the war general to protect him. Later he was sent to another country as a hostage.

I don’t understand his story fully. Did he come from a different country from A’Fei? Or is he really from the same country that is now under a different emperor, that is, his god-brother’s father? Why was he sent as a hostage to another country? If he survived the battle as a child (the scene where he regained consciousness on the battlefield) was that in a different country and then he went back to see General Wang?

@UnniSara, keep trodding on. The male lead probably suffers to the end. I can’t remember all the timing but it was a ridiculous amount of suffering throughout the series. I love the guy so I can’t sit through that again. That Nutcase from the Heavenly Realm also irritates me to no end so that’s also a sore point for me in the series. He’s given so much deference from the female lead and her father while I wondered how do they not question his statements and actions at all. It was clear to me he’s a psycho from almost the beginning. The way he tries to control the female lead and then when he couldn’t do it on his own he uses the master or the father. I just feel that nobody was worthy of the male lead. He was too good for them all.

  20. @stroppyse, I also want Ga On to stay with He Ra. His father and his half sister are not exactly good role models. They have their feud for many years now and no matter whose in the wrong or right, it’s better that Ga On isn’t used in their destruction of each other. I think this time around He Ra will be able to provide him with a safe home if his birth mother doesn’t show up.

I haven’t watched episodes 11 and 12 yet but hopefully there is more development on Cha’s missing sister or Ga On’s birth mother. I would really like to know her story. Too many missing gaps right now but it sure looked like she willingly walked into that old man CEO’s hotel room.

@Tofu, I really didn’t think we would see Ying Pei again in this way. Then again, he was adamant in his lousy behavior so it’s shouldn’t be surprising. I wonder if he will continue down this path.

About A’Fei’s sword style, I notice in Viki’s sub for episode 20 they called it North Blade instead of South Blade. That’s an error right? I thought the guy who died in the cave was the one who practiced the North Blade.

  22. @NiteWalker, that explains it. The episodes are also short so they don’t take up too much time on a daily basis.

@Nohamahmoud2002, Man In A Veil is worse? Yikes. Well, at least their lead guy won an award for his role. The actor who plays Hae Shim’s husband in this show also won an award for his role in this show. I think he’s the only actor who won something from this show.

  23. @Nohamahmoud2002, you’re still watching this show? My hats off to you.

@stroppyse, the cross dresser stuff annoyed me too. I figured it will continue for most of the drama since that’s how the character appears in the official posters for the show. It’s just too unbelievable for me. I mostly dropped the show because so many of the characters were not likable for me. It’s hard to root for anybody. Byeori is rightfully the only one that I appreciated probably because she’s a good kid. Dae Ro wasn’t bad either but well, not interesting enough to keep me watching. Hae Shim was nice too.

@NiteWalker, nice that you’re watching a daily show. I preferred Brilliant Heritage even though I did complain towards the end. This daily show, however, made me appreciate Brilliant Heritage. lol

    I wonder why.

I love the male leads -- all three of them -- but the cases were fairly straightforward, ordinary. Nothing I hadn't seen before. It was an easy watch with decent fight scenes. The bromance was probably the best part.

Ancient Detective was actually trying to do something quite different within the wuxia genre. In fact, it turns a number of wuxia tropes on its head. A male lead who has lost his memories, doesn't know martial arts and relies on his wits to get out of various  predicaments in his travels around jiang hu. There's no protracted  push and pull with his female love interest and she's the one who is actually skilled in martial arts. The individual cases are quite sophisticated paying homage to golden age detective fiction but with an ancient Chinese flavour. There's also some nice twists in the third act.  What's also impressive is the kid who took on the lead role. He turned out to be a great fit and comported himself with elegance. The structure and plotting was very well thought out. To me it's one of the best C dramas of 2020.

I think if it didn't suffer from some of usual editing problems associated with C dramas, it would be even better.

Oh my! I love your post. You probably describe exactly why I love Ancient Detective. I didn’t know the male lead but I also think he was a good fit for the role. I also liked the way he unraveled the cases. The ending five minutes was interesting and even though it opens a surprising mystery, I was still satisfied with the ending.
