Should I watch You’re My Hero?

If you like BJT and would like to see him in uniform, yes.

If you like BJT and would like to see the manly side of him (by manly, I mean good body with muscle), yes.

If you enjoy a natural, sweet, dorky, and healthy relationship, yes.

We went crazy for a good two months. :wow:

  2. @abs-oluteM I think ep 9-10 are quite intense in terms of pace and discovery they had, which made the hug by the sea so much more touching. I really like that scene and the subtle romance between the leads. It is hard not to fall each other in such life-and-death situation when the other person is your only support.

    Spoiler

Fun fact: Regarding the last loop, there is a video where they timed exactly when XHY looked at the watch where it showed 13:44:12 to when they threw the pot under the bridge, and it is right on time. I also saw posts where they say some people tried to time each loop (where  they show time stamps like loop 24, 25), the time also matches.
I guess it just feels much much  longer when you watch it. :-))

Re. Officer Zhang in the last loop:

    Spoiler

I also saw comments that maybe Officer Zhang got in the loop last round (because he died in the hospital just like how XHY got into the loop). The evidence is that (1) the couple got away easy this time (2) when he stopped them outside the police station, he said why XHY had his phone number, though this time around it was LSQ who contacted him not XHY.

  4. @ktcjdrama I am still reading all the reactions online... it is nice that the drama is short, but it is not nice to say goodbye.

    ep 14-15

    Spoiler

This is the ending everyone sort of expected and hoped for... except the kiss I guess (I for one didn't expect that, haha). But I am not complaining.

I know that people might complain that the ending is too perfect - everyone gets what they have wished for. But there are two responses to that:

    - WMM still died, and his parents went through hell to get the answer they finally wanted. It is really ironic that they had to bomb the bus, and "use" a miracle of two people trapped in time loop, to get that answer. This is telling, and I can't help thinking that the drama is making a point here: in reality, things are much more crueler with all the unanswered question and unserved justice. The fact that everything ended so well for everyone on the bus is almost too good to be true. I saw comments that maybe it is all a dream, because only in dreams can things be perfect.

    - I really like (and didn't expect) that the solution to end the loop is not just to save everyone (which they already achieved last round), but to make WMM's parents let go and get the answer. That's why in the end, the one who ended everything is the father who did so voluntarily. This is the real point of the drama: one about bravery from normal people, one about internet bullying, one about justice.

BJT plays the famous song Canon in piano. I have never seen him play a whole song, though I knew that he used to play piano very well (level 10 or something). I read that he bought a piano to practice in Hengdian, where he is shooting his next drama.

BTW, the one who posts this is his own account - he makes every interesting content and it is worth checking out if you can understand/read Mandarin.

  5. @mademoiselle I liked Lu Di too and his interaction with the leads. It is so dorky yet cute. XHJ being jealous without explicitly saying so is just adorable. Oh, those light-hearted scenes will be missed. 😆

@abs-oluteM Finally, you are at episode 8!!! It totally blew me away... I did not expect that level of intensity... The result is that I kept thinking about it ever since. :nervous:  I think the drama portraits their relationship in a very subtle yet heart-warming/wrenching way. The anti-explosion CP has sailed.. and Chinese netizens can't get enough of it.

Unfortunately, EP9 with subs will come Tuesday, I think...

    Spoiler

But her phone rang once already in previous episodes... I don't know if that has any purpose.

Anyway, I forgot to mention that the police office scene in EP 12 is really great. I like how they are so experienced now they play this "hide and seek" game with the police so that they can stay in the station to gather more information from them. Our leads are really smart and cute

Zhao Jinmai posted this picture on Weibo today...

Zhao: I want to post this picture on Weibo. Do you want me to Photoshop(retouch) it a bit?

  7. @ktcjdrama I am also up to speed now (episode 13). What a ride! I think the pace after episode 6 is on a totally different level, like a plane has taken off.

    Regarding episode 7-13:

    Spoiler

I was constantly on my edge when watching these episodes. The stories of passengers are touching and sad, especially the guy with the suitcase (Lao Jiao). I really like how the drama reveals the side stories in a way that is tightly intertwined with the main plot: it hit you in unexpected time and spot.

Then we have the main characters... what XHJ went through in episode 8-9 is just brutal and heartbreaking. It sort of made us wonder whether they will ever get out of the loop, psychologically, and the courage it took for them to continue this route.

I also liked how they portrayed the relationships between the two leads. It was never explicit, but with all they have gone through, everything can be left unspoken, all you need is a hug, a hand, or simply sitting next to each other in a place that is not bus 45. The seaside scene was nicely done in that regard.

Now we know the whole story of who and why, but we still don't know why Wang Mengmeng got off the bus five years ago. With two episodes to go, the netizens are going crazy with all kinds of theories, as the ending will for sure be different from the novel. Some were even suggesting a double loop...

Anyway, I don't want to speculate too much, but one thing I have noticed is that every detail in this drama matters. We have seen that over and over again (e.g., why the bus driver only let LSQ off in loops where she claimed to be harassed; why the bus driver didn't accept LSQ's gloves as gifts). So my question is why does the female office have the same ringtone that triggers the bomb? This cannot be a coincident. Also, why did XHY become weaker and weaker?

@abs-oluteM I really liked the interactions between the main leads in episode 5-6. I feel they are the last light-hearted moments before the crazy run later. XHY's small expressions are so cute when he was talking about how he became stronger. hahaha. I think LD's character also resonated with many people who are "stuck" in the virtual world (er ci yuan in Chinese).

  8. @abs-oluteM Don't watch too many trailers! It spoils the watching experience, sometimes...

I don't like that there is so much difference in terms of airing schedule between Chinese platforms and international ones. I can't talk about it with you guys as I do.

  9. @abs-oluteM I think the ViKi and YO-YO airing schedule is Tue - Fri, which means episode 5 will come tomorrow. It is too slow…

Due to BJT’s efforts, they have added one episode to the VIP schedule this week :CharmanderYay:

Finished ep.8. Best episode so far. Intense... Seems like there's more than 1 person on the bus involved regarding the bomb. Can't wait for more episodes to be released!

    In ep.6-7

      Reveal hidden contents

The part when Lu Di hugged his father was so moving... I teared up. And then the story about the watermelon uncle too.

LOL, I had guessed what's inside the backpack of Lu Di. Too bad he isn't in the loop... I thought he is an interesting character to add to the team. I can already sense jealousy from XHY haha...

Episode 8 is sooo good. They moved from trying to make you cry to trying to make you scared in no time. The last two scenes were haunting…

I really need to avoid spoilers on Weibo… I think the watching experience is much worse when the suspension is gone.

  10. Happy to see that more people are jumping on the train.

I think the airing schedule on VIKI is probably one episode a day, whereas the schedule on Chinese platform is two-day a week, which is too little.

I can't wait for you guys to catch up, as it is getting more and more intense as we go.

@abs-oluteM I don't think the original novel talks about why they ended up in the loop, but I do hope there is an explanation later in the drama. I think now they both assume that you will get out of the loop if you can save everyone and stop the explosion. But on the other hand, they don't know if/when the loop will end abruptly, which means they still want to make the most out of each loop.

I also agree that the police station scenes are really frustrating to watch, but again, if we accept that everything else is normal, it will be extremely hard to make a Chinese police officer to believe that you are trapped in the loop. :nervous:

  11. @Tofu I don't want to spoil anything, but you will know more about how the reset happens as the drama goes. I think it is quite well-done in terms of its logic and attention to details. All the questions you have as you watch it will be raised and answered by ML and FL in the drama. It also gets better and better...

It is become very popular in China - everyone is talking about it on Weibo. We are also wondering why it is sooooo slow in terms of airing. :letalQQ:

  12. @abs-oluteM I am glad that you enjoyed it. I think the subtitles on Viki might be better, if you are referring to the ones on youtube.

Anyway, I think what makes this drama stands out is its very real depiction of how normal people would behave in dangerous situations like this and the discussion (explicit and implicit) of what it is being a good person. The theme gets more and more emphasized as the storyline progresses.

I also think that the premise of resetting is simple, yet it is not necessarily an easy job to tell the story of two people trapped in a never-ending repeat of cycles. How to make it interesting for the audience to watch repeating cycles and not get bored is hard, but I think the directors have done very well so far.

  13. I just finished episode 8!

OMG!!! This drama is soooo good!!! The story is original and interesting in itself, and the way it is done made is even better. Though the premise of being trapped in some sort of loop is very much fictional and super-natural, the story it tells or the core of the storyline is about ordinary human being and their ordinary life, and about how ordinary people try their best to "save the world". It is suspending but touching at the same time.

A refreshing genre for C-drama and a must watch!!!

  14. I have watched five episodes on Chinese platform.

It is a very interesting genre. Without reading the novel, it is very intriguing to see what is gonna happen. The pace is very good so far. The leading pair has good chemistry and dynamics.

I can see why they casted BJT for this role. All those years at Who is the murderer have definitely helped him in this crime/puzzle solving role. :-)))))

  15. I am on Episode 12 and it is definitely getting better and better.

The pace issue at the beginning is less of an issue now. The plot, the characters, and the script are all quite interesting for me to enjoy the drama. The actors, especially Ruoyun and Hu Ju, are great, which carried a big part of the drama.

The problem definitely lies with the directing and editing. The director is good with cameras, but he is not good at telling stories, which is a shame.

What is most interesting for me is to see how the prince grows, both his martial art skills as well as his way of reconciling with the cruelty of the world. He has a very idealistic world view, which makes him extremely likeable and charming. But in the world he is in, how can he keep such idealism and find "the third route" is a very interesting storyline. I think it does speak to the strength or the charm of the Chinese martial art dramas: the protagonist's spiritual or ideological pursuit on a higher level.

Yes! I plan on checking it out! I probably won't get to it until the weekend because work is really busy this week. Have you watched? How is it so far?

I watched three episodes yesterday, and there are things I like, such as the witty/funny dialogue and dynamic between the father (Hu Jun) and the son (Ruoyun), and things I don't like that much, such as the slow-motion fighting scenes. But I think it is still too early to say. I never read the book, so I don't have any expectation in that regard. Pace-wise, it is a bit slow at the beginning, if we compare it with Joy of Life, but I also feel that story is way more complicated.

Anyway, I can see online that people are complaining about the looks of the ML and FL, especially the FL. I agree that the acting of the FL is a bit off, but again I never read the book, so I don't know what the FL should look like. As for Zhang Ruoyun, he is never seen as a handsome guy. But his acting is what makes you believe in the character. He is doing a great job as usual, but I think he lost too much weight for the character... a bit too skinny for me. And I like Hu Jun a lot - miss seeing him in a costume drama!!

I like both actors but why so many dramas airing all the same time?! :scaredpanda2: I would have to drop some dramas to watch this. I don't know if I can sustain the 8-9 dramas per week like our great masters.

@Xiaopz_pj!! Where have you been?! :letalQQ:

You need to check out this one - it is a short watch with only 8 episodes.

I just finished the first two. I must say the production is very high level. The cinematography is superb - movie level atmosphere and visual. The acting is super super good. KSH and his crying scenes... oh my god.

I have been hiding out and not watching many dramas lately... ;-) Good to see you here.
