  1. Ha! I thought I was a rare non-watcher of that drama. It was apparently very popular when it aired. It's still on my to-watch list haha. Too many good dramas to watch. And more GOOD ones are coming soon... I'm all caught up for this. It was a satisfying binge. It seemed to end almost as soon as I've started. And some clever editing to end Ep 18 at bedtime. This OTP is a cute and lovely pair. Btw, I love the drama's medal on some of your side profiles. Nice! Oh no! Our General is wounded! This must be the accidental stabbing segment. Everyone, gotta prepare tissue boxes for more angst to come... And I can't wait to watch this segment. Why are they crying? I don't think this is due to the upcoming divorce since General is hugging her... But it's definitely the same day, looking at Shiyiniang's clothes. Btw, I love Shiyiniang's personal maidservants. Both of them, for now...
  2. Yay! Be prepared for even more to come. Good ones at that. Haha. IKR! Me too. So many dramas to watch but... I will also try to watch tomorrow. Look forward to your thoughts. I know I will be more mad than I already am lol.
  3. Lots of chatter on weibo about a rumored premiere date next week (whoa! about time!) - 3.10 Wed on TENCENT and IQIYI.
  4. That was an awesome drama. They were perfect for each other, albeit the age difference. I just love ZLS and that mustache. lol. Anyone who has yet to watch it, I highly recommend it.
  5. Raise your hand if you think this drama is very addictive... I just can't stop watching it, from 4 till 12, my record for these two days lol. I'm so afraid of spoilers that I can't "talk" or "read" this thread, and you folks are posting like crazy as always. Good crazy. Once I'm caught up with current airing episodes, don't anyone stop me from crashing the party here lol. Love the excitement you all are bringing forth at such warp speed. 19 pages! Jia You! SPOILERS (for anyone who hasn't gone past Ep 12) This has, in so many ways, especially because of this OTP (probably my huge bias hehe), surpassed Ming Lan by Ep 12. I guess I can now rest and catch up with the rest (13 to 18) over the weekend. Anyone else's heart dropped when you saw this (and look at Shiyiniang's eyes lol): Ohhhhhhh... And yes! Finally! XLY is taking his wife back home. Finally some real action from this general. I thought he was too indifferent, too aloof and too uncaring of our sweet Shiyiniang (sweet but not so smart, for now, of course it's no doubt for character growth, likewise for our general). But he has his own nonchalant way of caring, just as he did with his late first wife, Yuanniang. Btw, so sad to see her leave the world of the Luo family (and this drama). I love YIng'er too. But well, she just has to go to pave the way for Shiyiniang to marry into the household to watch over her Luo Family, esp. her son and husband. Besides the beautiful embroidery, the beautiful settings and cultural artifacts, I love the bickering and coldness these two are sharing at the moment. So I am fine with the angst (caused mostly by none other than the hateful schemer, Concubine Qiao) and the non-sugary behavior of them. Slowly but surely their flame of romance will glow, yes? Looking forward to their consummation (they haven't, right? I didn't miss it, right? haha), and erhem, that passionate kiss and more, more, more! (PS: Pardon me if I'm posting photos that have already been posted. I haven't gone through all the pages of this thread. I know, I am very late. I have to catch up, right? I will.)
  6. I don't know for sure, but I think in the high 20s. I saw the clip and it was an unbelievably good kiss for this OTP in such a genre, and this being their first pairing as a couple. They are soooo cute Stay tuned and don't you dare blink or you will miss the passion lol I will try to post the vid link when I see it again.
  7. Oh no! I'm shocked and disappointed. Ji Soo of all actors/guys? Unbelievable! There goes a good drama down the gutter, at least for me. They have scripted till 18 with only 2 more to go toward wrapping up, and JS has reportedly done most of his scenes. Aish... I can't see how this would still work out well, no matter who his replacement would be. Just like Delayed Justice was a good drama till something unforeseen happened... sigh... and even with JWS taking over the role in DS, it was a drop for me. Likewise, though I love sageuks, this drama has been not as good thus far (plot and pace haven't been as tight, but quite all over the place), I'm going to drop this and not even bother to see what else happens. 8. Yeah there was - Negotiator. That was quite a stretch in pairing. But I watched it till the end because the theme was interesting.
  9. Me neither. He is "new" to me. I think this is the first drama of his that I am watching. But he does have quite a portfolio. Just not what I've been watching lol. No doubt very cute lol, and thus far (3 episodes), seems quite good in portraying a doctor in this drama.
  10. Haha... but they are not that far apart in age (or even in looks) - 34 vs 26. There are worse cases of over ten, even almost twenty or more, in age differences. On the whole, I don't care about the age difference. Some may look too young/old for their age, but others may look too young/old for their role. I care more about the script/plot, the acting/cast and the production (setting, cinematography, genre, etc). There has been a change in name, again. It's now 《骊歌行》 (as seen at QQ.com and its official weibo account). It sounds like some form of influence by the other highly anticipated drama 《长歌行》. It looks like this XK/LYT drama is scheduled to premiere this month. I guess new posters with the new title are in the making.
  11. As I was watching the drama, I seemed to see flashes of Louis Koo in his younger days. Isn't there a striking resemblance of Ian Yi to Louis Koo? PS: No idea when these two photos were taken. I thought they look very much alike. Official BTS - The beautiful memories of the brothers in the snow. Src: MGTV Drama Channel
  12. Ladies... don't fret. Just remember this drama's setting is of a bygone era, not in current day. In fact, watching dramas like this ought to make us feel more comforted that the times have changed for the better. A lot better. And I don't think XLY is quite the norm of that era. Hard to believe any man having so many wives/concubines and not have time, or want to spare time, for every one of them since they are all beauties in their own unique way. In fact, I was thinking perhaps he should have three more, just so he could fill his week perfectly and impartially lol. Haha... so true. Me too. But I will read reviews and recaps of those I love after having watched them, just to see how differently the take could have been, or if I could have perhaps missed some interesting aspects of any. I loathe spoilers. I try to stay away from them if I could help it, lol, sometimes I can't. We are all from different walks of life, different nationality, ethnicity, etc., and so having different takes in some and similar takes in some other would not be surprising. In fact, quite refreshing, enlightening and entertaining at times. A lot of times.
  13. Exactly. Well-said! Awesome! I do and did, too. I loved to hang out with the "boys" and be like a "brother" lol. I guess all of us have to grow up someday, and be more responsible in our behavior. If not today, then hopefully it's someday... And hopefully, that someday wouldn't be too little too late... I wish writers would come up with dramas that expound on this mindset that you've stated so well above. Perhaps not as titillating to watch, though it can still be crafted to attract eyeballs. Exactly! Drinking is fine. Almost everything is fine in moderation. But (self) discipline is a big problem, esp. when being urged to drink more and more, or the temptation being too strong to really stop before one gets drunk. Wah! That's so scary. I thought big 5-star hotels have good security and strict rules against such practices. Back to SH and SW, I feel badly for SW and I can't wait to find out her backstory and how they ended up in the current state of affair, pun intended. I can't see SW walking into this firepit sanely and thoughtfully. She has such wise words for SH (and for any married couples). On the other hand, I am biasedly and probably insanely rooting for SW (esp. the actress) to be happy with SH, lol. I think her real life backstory played a big part in my biased views regarding the 30s couple. Ottoke?
  14. Yes. I've checked out Ep 1 at mgtv.com via its app, and loved it. Hence, hoping this thread will alert more viewers to watch it. Btw, the first four episodes are free (but raw), while 5 onward will need subscription. And the good news for international viewers is that mgtv's YT channel will soon provide English subs, just as you've stated. TBT, I like MZJ a lot (still new to IY). Ever since his Legend of Hao Lan role as the Crown Prince held in hostage and later enthroned, I've started to "follow" him. He was good there, though his role was a little understated, both in character development and in overall plot. It gives a Winter Begonia feel, but the plot is very different. Anyone who loves WB will love this drama, I believe. MZJ looks good here. This bromance between him and Ian Yi is growing on me. Don't you think they look good together? The plot sounds awesome. @NiteWalker Thanks so much for your help with this thread. I would have been so very lost without your help, this being my first thread on JH.
  15. Characters: Mao Zijun as Jiang Yuelou (Main Cast) Ian Yi as Chen Yuzhi (Main Cast) Guo Shutong as Chu Ran (Supporting Cast) Other Supporting Cast:
  16. An anomaly of an adaptation. Just like The Wolf drama, this drama will also be adapting its same name novel from its original screenplay. This adaptation is already in the works. I bet there'll be much interest in it. This bromance is cute, funny, and soooo good for the eyes lol.
  17. To date, 4 episodes are up on YT, in raw. But the mgtv translation team is still working on their English subs. It wouldn't be too long... ENJOY! The playlist:
  18. Hello everyone I've just started to watch this drama which I've anticipated for a long while. Love the embroidery theme, love this era (as a viewer), and the OTP! Seven is an excellent pick for Shiyiniang's role. I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this (have yet to go through this thread) but she's the one who recommended Wallace for this role. How sweet! The polygamy situation is a bit hard for me to embrace, but I do understand in that era, it was a cultural norm. Look forward to reading more of your thoughts and updates!
  19. That's true. SH didn't intend to cheat. Neither did any of the hubbies (or anyone, for that matter). And emotions are free-flowing and apparently unrestrainable? Besides, our eyes are not trained to look away from sights to behold either. Just the opposite, actually. But I still think the right thing for any married person to do is to remind oneself that one is married, and to try to work it out if the couple has issues at home. Failing which, to first get a divorce before starting or getting involved deeper. If nothing else, it bodes well for the new relationship or marriage, rather than have the "tag" or the "guilt" weigh on their character and their new union (but of course, it seems less and less of any concern since infidelity is so rampant everywhere). Oh well, these are thoughts from my sane mind. If I were to drink till I'm no longer of clear mind, like the 30s SH did with SW (and so did the 40s YS with Ami), then sanity no longer has a hold. Would that be a valid or excusable pass to trespass the boundary of marriage, as SH (and YS) did? Do we ask, did it just happen? Or was it a choice we made that led to it?
  20. Cast: Mao Zi Jun Jiang Yue Lou Main Role Ian Yi Chen Yu Zhi Main Role Synopsis: A story that follows "violent" cop Jiang Yue and good doctor Chen Yu Zhi as they support and redeem each other during troubled times. They are polar opposites - one kills while one heals. Jiang Yue Lou who heads the Jingcheng Police Station appears to be neither good nor evil. Smugglers tremble at the thought of him. While investigating an opium case in Hong Kong, Jiang Yue Lou encounters doctor Chen Yu Zhi. Chen Yu Zhi discovers that Jiang Yue Lou has manic depression. From his initial refusal to undergo treatment, Jiang Yue Lou eventually opens up to Chen Yu Zhi. Despite their values being as different as day and night, they become close friends. Meanwhile, warlord Zhan Jun Bai, tycoon Zhao Jing Ming and rogue gangster Zhou Huo continue to make trouble and even attempt to put Jiang Yue Lou to death. At this time, the secrets from the past also rise to the surface. (Source: cdramainfo) Native Title: 恨君不似江楼月 CREDIT: MDL (PS: More info to be updated in time...) Airing Schedule:
  21. Haha me neither. So lame, wasn't it? And I don't think it was her first experience at "confession". IKR! As viewers, we have a love-hate relationshiip with this drama. Overall, it is eye-opening, to say the least. You're not alone in being "open" to the 30s story. I am too. It's in fact the only couple that I could be "open" to having them get together eventually although I'd have preferred them to have done the right thing - as in SH getting a divorce first before getting SW pregnant. I read the other forum and someone said she now knows what "it just happened" meant. Some C-forums have similar comments too. Isn't that mindset worrisome? (And I can't say I fared any better lol). Viewers (and womenfolk) are being "brainwashed" into accepting infidelity is just as normal as any event in our everyday mundane life. With good-looking actors and actresses portraying it, the "hate" is much harder, don't you think? And because of that, I "hate" myself too, lol, for hoping SH and SW will end up together. And I believe they will. Likely the only cheating couple that will end up together. That ending OST by them is written very well for them and their relationship. The lyrics... very meaningful and touching. I can't stop listening to it lol. Sure. If you like Agatha Christie and Alfred Hitchcock genres, you have to watch it. It's somewhat crazy, way over-the-top (almost no expenses spared in production), but so fun to watch the goings-on among the "pretty and classy" bunch while trying to figure out what's happening. It would be better to start with S1 and then on to S2. I was drawn to it by the genre and the cast, esp. the return of Eugene and Lee Ji-ah, but ended up loving it. I still haven't had time to start watching S2, but I will find time this week. The curiosity is just "killing" me daily lol, esp. when their ratings for S2 started with a bang and have been keeping up well to date!
  22. Yeah you're right. Looking at The Untamed and Guardian, indeed a lot of money, and a lot of glory as well. The C-market seems to be "starved" of BL or LGBTQ entertainment. The interest (or perhaps curiosity) is unbelievable! Haha me three! I'm a random cuts fan You're spot on. TSnTB has overtaken their top spot.
  23. Ahhh but reading and watching give totally different feels. Bingeing it with lots of fast forwarding may work too, lol. I'm enjoying this series even as I puke all over it along the way lol Also, I think the Penthouse series is better written and filmed, though both sets of cast are great! So skillfully crafted and filmed - writer and PD - that none of the cast knows what to expect of the others, as in who was who and who did what to whom, yet the output was cohesive (as far as S1 was concerned) and the shock/suspense value was high. Can't wait to start on S2... Do you think he sowed many wild oats? Crying for PY. I had a feeling that Ami is his first transgression, but I may be wrong at this point since so much is still left hidden. The flashback of 10 months - a lot could have happened. So it may be true that once YS hurdled past his first hesitation on physical infidelity with Ami (though he definitely has already committed emotional infidelity many times over), he could have gone on with more conquests. Perhaps. Can't wait to find out! Hope you'd be able to sleep after watching it lol. I admit it kept my mind "busy" for hours, for days, lol Hmm... good question. I think he is a basket of confusion (due to his childhood trauma, perhaps), to put it mildly, or in a sorry and sick state of delusion. Or, at worst, he needs professional mental counseling. IMO, if he as a psychiatrist who supposedly is well-versed in human psychology, in their thought processes and ways to heal a mental state in disorder were to truly be in love or harbor love emotions beyond the familial kind, he needs help! Besides being unfilial to his father who clearly loves him greatly, he has transgressed beyond his marriage vows, not to mention his professional code of ethics. (Stepmom Dongmi is by far the worst character of them all, I think. Another topic, another time lol). Just an example of a flout. I could not find any SK's references, so here's one for general reference - Code of Ethics for Psychiatrists.
  24. Now that I've finally caught up till Ep 12, I can't "blame" you for this thought. I was hoping the trajectory would "surprise" me in that writernim would have had better plot ideas in her arsenal of ideas. When Ep 9 was beginning the unvealing with flashbacks, I was through the roof happy with anticipation of the reveals, or those to come. But it has been a letdown, to say the least, and which was why I could not bring myself to post anything. I wanted to tear myself away and drop this drama after Ep 10, but I couldn't because the curiosity of what's to come bugs me so much lol. Now that I'm resigned to the facts shown to date. My recap of sorts. The 3 wives: Spunky 30s BHR, Elegant 40s SPY, and Virtuous 50s LSE. The 3 hubs and their FIRST ENCOUNTER - non-interactive. The 3 hubs and their FIRST ENCOUNTER - interactive. All 3 wives are smart, capable and beautiful, or at least presentable (50s LSE). All 3 hubs appear to be nice, caring, reliable yet are actually not what they appear to be, and worse, are leading double lives? Needless to say, all 3 hubs are making me feel so repulsive at their behavior here. I'm finding it hard to decide who is more hateful between the 40s and 50s hubbies. Of all 3 "the other woman," I think the youngest of all, Ami, is the most hateful one (and the eldest of all, Song Yuan, is the least hateful. Eager to see what's her backstory). From Ami's first day of encounter with YS, she was already dreaming of him as her "white knight", or better yet, "knight in shining armor" with that horse-riding scene on the beach. And yes, YS was wearing white and looked bright and shining, as bright and shining as the sun in the background. Hold on to your seat for some shocking revelation of Ami's background, probably a painful one, and where YS would be the gallant knight to her rescue. Haven't we seen YS "rescue" her time and time again? For ex. giving her his jacket to keep her warm, treating her Indigestion from too much lounge food, and of course, more to be revealed in upcoming episodes. I can't wait to see how elegant 40s wife, PY, will deal with the truth when she finds out about it. I'm also holding my breath for the transformation of 50s SE. So... what's worth applauding? Definitely the awesome portrayals by the cast. I guess I'm somewhat biased where actors LTG and SH are concerned. Not their loathsome characters, 30s and 40s husbands. Plot-wise... I guess the realistic though not so common portrayal of YS and his first love being his stepmom? I guess the realistic portrayal of a scheming and ruthless stepmom? Scheming for love (of SIL) and for money (from spousal inheritance)? I guess the realistic common premise of a man/theatre professor HR who laments "it's not fair to expect a man to love only one woman all his life"? I guess the realistic and still patriarchal societal norms where wives ought to bear the family’s future generation no matter what? I guess the realistic portrayal of wives in comparison to a man's best friend, aka, a dog? Dongmi-ah Isn't it funny how a teen can be more mature than her professor dad? I applaud 50s SE/HR's daughter, HG, for standing up and speaking out so eloquently when it counts: Thus far, up till Ep 12, I am getting no new plot ideas, no renewed hope for the trodden wives that would show us being "a working wife" or "a wife who puts work above child-bearing" is not a failing; no moral compass to show being "the other woman" (esp. when it wrecks a family) is wrong, wrong and wrong, let alone to husbands, that being married (esp. with a family) is a vital oath to honor. Instead, why are men who cheat given a free pass on this issue? As if the females of the world are being "groomed" to accept and accommodate unfaithful men/hubs? As if the wives/moms of the world do not have heavy enough burdens on their shoulders, they needed more huge lens to magnify any existential humanly/wifely/motherly flaws as another "gotcha"? Thus far, wives are given the clear signal that men are men, and men are/can be hypocrites, liars and cheaters. On top of that, any given mundane situation or any social setting with any given female is an opportunity to cheat, and a valid reason at that, to forget their marriage oath, their family, and their wife. Why do womenfolk (some forums) point fingers at these wives for not being "better" wives? As if being better wives or being more well-groomed and beautiful would preempt infidelity? Not a chance, looking at the world at large, we have seen better being subjected to such infidelity anyway. Finally, it seems that K-writers in general, or this drama's, like to portray wives with cheating husbands who are whitewashed from infidelity with reasons that directly/indirectly point to the wives, "You deserve it!" or "You caused it!"? Why? Will good answers be provided in the remaining 4 eps? Or will S2 make a difference? LOL... Hopefully, so as to provide viewers (like me/us) with good answers, good reasons, and good unfolding plot, to continue watching? I shall complete the rest of S1 first. I have come this far (and have put many other dramas on hold lol), I have to see what's up this writernim's sleeves. PS: @abs-oluteM
  25. Nothing against BL genre, but it's so surprising that more BLs are on the way even while censorship is snipping so much off of historical and fantasy genres, and even metropolis genre, that they deemed contain values that are "unsuitable" and "unhealthy" and even "unfriendly" to family values... where's the logic? What about creative licenses for production crews and viewers at large? I'd watch this for ZZH and GJ if only... oh well... I'd sit on the fence and see how it pans out... How did it even topple TSaTB? Perhaps still too early to tell...
