Plot

Lee Hong-Ju (Kim So-Hyun) is as an animation production PD. When she was in the 3rd grade of high school student, she fell in love for the first time. She went through a hard breakup and has been skeptical of love since that time. 10 years later, she meets Kang Hu-Young (Chae Jong-Hyeop), who witnessed her miserable past.

 

Kang Hu-Young works as a financial planner and is smart and handsome. He returns to South Korea after 10 years. He meets his first love Lee Hong-Ju as if by chance and fate. He faces a strong wave of emotions. Meanwhile, Bang Joon-Ho (Yun Ji-On), who is a popular novel writer with a free spirit. Lee Hong-Ju is his big fan. Kim Hye-Ji (Kim Da-Som) is Lee Hong-Ju’s best friend and works as an English teacher.

Kim So Hyun Confirmed To Star In New Webtoon-Based Drama

Kim So Hyun will be starring in a new drama!

 

On September 27, Kim So Hyun’s agency IEUM HASHTAG announced that the actress is confirmed to star in the new drama “Is It a Coincidence?” (literal title).

 

The upcoming drama is based on the original webtoon of the same name which marked the beginning of the heyday of Naver Webtoon. “Is It a Coincidence?” depicts the story of youths who mature over time as they move forward. Song Hyun Wook, who is known for his delicate and beautiful directing skills shown through dramas such as “The King’s Affection,” “Beauty Inside,” and “Another Oh Hae Young,” will be in charge of directing, raising anticipation for the drama.

 

Kim So Hyun will take on the role of Lee Hong Joo, an animation producer who is afraid of love due to the painful memories from her previous relationship. The actress who showcased her delicate acting skills as well as her ability to take on various characters through the projects “The Tale of Nokdu,” “Love Alarm,” “River Where the Moon Rises,” and more is expected to make another transformation as an ordinary office worker.

Recently, Xportsnews reported that Chae Jong Hyeop would be starring in the new drama “Is It a Coincidence?” (literal title) that is currently in talks to broadcast on tvN.

 

The upcoming drama is based on the original webtoon of the same name and depicts the story of youths who find true love and their dreams after reuniting with their first love 10 years later. Kim So Hyun has been confirmed to star as Lee Hong Joo, an animation producer who is afraid of love due to the painful memories from her previous relationship.

 

Chae Jong Hyeop has received an offer for the role of Kang Hoo Young, who has heart-fluttering memories of Hong Joo and eventually reunites with her.

 

In response to these reports, on October 6, Chae Jong Hyeop’s agency IOK Company shared, “[‘Is It a Coincidence?’] is one of the projects [Chae Jong Hyeop] has received an offer for.”

It’s official: Chae Jong Hyeop will be starring opposite Kim So Hyun in a new drama!

 

On November 18, Chae Jong Hyeop’s agency IOK Company announced, “Actor Chae Jong Hyeop has been confirmed to appear in the new drama ‘Is It a Coincidence’ and is officially beginning filming.”

 

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, “Is It a Coincidence” (literal translation) will tell the story of young people finding true love and their dreams after accidentally running into their first love from 10 years ago.

 

Kim So Hyun was previously confirmed to be starring in the drama as Lee Hong Joo, an animation producer who is afraid of love due to painful memories from her previous relationship.

 

Chae Jong Hyeop will be playing male lead Kang Hoo Young, a handsome and intelligent financial planner living in the United States who never needed to work hard to achieve great results. Bored with his dull and meaningless life, Kang Hoo Young finds his heart fluttering again when he returns to Korea for the first time in a long while and unexpectedly reunites with Lee Hong Joo, his first love from high school, after 10 years.

 

“Is It a Coincidence?” is currently aiming to premiere sometime in 2023.

I've watched the first two episodes. I think episode 1 cuter than 2. Good thing it is only 8 episodes, so it shouldn't drag on too long. The drama switches between the past and present a lot, telling us the story of the OTP.

 

Chae Jong Hyeop's character needs a bit more backstory, though. I mean, we know he's good with studies in high school, went to Yale and also good at his job, but I want to know why he's always so expressionless unless he's with Hong Joo (Kim So Hyun).

 

The story is quite typical, and I'm not sure if it will stand out from all the romance dramas we've seen.
