  1. @Chocolate it does start slow but eventually the pace picks up.. I also thought it was slow in the beginning but then @NiteWalker told me she really enjoyed LingYi and Shiyi's interactions and so I just kept watching to get to those scenes.
  2. @Darkarcana that's why I think it's strange.. By the way, are we going to keep talking in Spoiler tag? LOLOL I guess we have no choice bec we don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen it.
  3. @Darkarcana that's why I am not sure about Ba Reum yet.. because I don't know who he really is at this point. We don't even have his background and we don't know where he lives or who he lives with. We always just see him at work. And what is his obsession with animals? Is he really taking care of them? How do we know he didn't harm them and then helped them after? Suspicious.....
  4. Haha let's just say that just like there is "sugar" hidden deep inside of you that comes out once in a while, I have a mystery detective hidden deep in me that likes to come out once in a while too.
  5. It looks like there's a scene in the video where LingYi is fighting while protecting Shiyi. I wonder if she ends up following him when he leaves... And maybe something happens there and Shiyi takes the fall..? Ugh! Can't wait for the rest of the episodes!! As for reviews, if I like a drama, I don't care about what the reviews say. I will continue to watch and love it. I also don't follow ratings much. As long as they keep airing it, all is good.
  6. @Darkarcana there are so many potentials that it's hard to figure out who is actually doing what.
  7. @mademoiselle I totally think you should check out Mouse. It's so good and it's not even my typical genre. It does such a good job of hiding it's characters.. you just don't know who's who and you just come out of an episode with questions instead of answers!
  8. I’m just eager to see all the sweet scenes between LingYi and Shiyi. There’s potential for depth here. That’s what I appreciated about Eternal Love... yes it’s a love story but their love wasn’t easy.
  9. I wonder if Shiyi is going to eventually do something for ErNiang that will make her change her mind about Shiyi.
  10. It’s been ages since I last posted in this thread that I forgot the rules and had to go back to page 1 to refresh my memory Eclair 50
  11. @abs-oluteM I agree with you. I think the writers do a good job of putting distance between LingYi and the other women. It gives me the impression he slept with them only once (or maybe it’s just how I comfort myself lol).
  12. I think they became his concubines because of his mother. Concubine Wen for her family’s support and then Concubine Qin was his mother’s former maid. At least he doesn’t really spend time with the concubines unless he’s told to. And even then, he just eats a meal or checks on them and then goes. The only thing that bothers me is that he has a son with concubine Wen and he also had a child with Concubine Qin although she miscarried. I don’t even want to imagine those scenes. I’m pretty sure he just slept with them out of duty, to produce children. He draws the line with LianFang though and he still hasn’t consummated his marriage with her (thank goodness and let’s hope it stays that way bec if he ever sleeps with her, I’m pulling the plug on this drama haha)
  13. honestly, if the drama showed him treating all the women the same and sleeping with all of them, I think I’d have an issue with it. Lol 😂 I’m sorry but I expect the FL to always be special to the man and for the man to be different from all the other men. Haha
  14. Just finished Ep 2 and I don’t even know what to say... so much to digest! I’m beginning to realize that each episode is likely going to be 19+ and that we’ll always be at the edge of our seats, trying to figure out who’s who. Putting the rest of my thoughts in spoiler tag because I don’t want to ruin it for those who have yet to watch the first 2 episodes....
  15. Gotta admit it was also difficult for me in the beginning, understanding the concubines but that was the norm back then. I also think that the drama did a good job of explaining how his concubines came to be. It wasn’t bec he was collecting women or that he was a womanizer. Also, we could clearly see a difference in how LingYi viewed/treated the women.
  16. @SnTI also noticed the different hairstyles. My favourite is the one where she has a side part. She looks more mature but I do think it signifies her growth and more likely - the changes she undergoes. I think her first hairstyle is to signify her youth and innocence. The second hairstyle is to signify her new status as a married woman and I suspect the third hairstyle signifies her love and acceptance of LingYi. I am curious about the circumstances of the divorce letter. Perhaps @NiteWalker is right in that he might be doing it to protect her. But it could also be from a misunderstanding. We’ll just have to wait and see. It looks like Shiyi is going to end up in prison somehow and I wonder what leads up to it. The 2nd ML also seems to change his hairstyle later. Maybe it’s to signify a change in him as well.
  17. @SnThaha! I’m also rummaging through IG and YT trying to look for more clips!! I’m also addicted! It’s annoying that we have to wait until Monday for more episodes. Too long of a wait!!!
  18. Please don't let LSG be the psychopath! I can't wait to see the next episode! The little boy might actually be a different character altogether. It could be that both detectives carried the gene as children (one as Han's son and the other as that other mother) but neither of them are that mysterious child. I am curious to see how Prof Daniel is going to play a part in all of it too. Remember when they were discussing the psychopath gene? They said that the psychopath gene and genius gene are so alike that it would be difficult to differentiate between the two.. I wonder how that's going to weave into all of this (if it has a meaning at all). I love that ep 1 also raises the question - do we, as a society, have the right to terminate life based on probability? The study was only 99% accurate and even at that, how does one differentiate between psychopath and genius? Also, do our genes dictate behaviour or do we have a choice? I am curious to find out too if the unborn children were made aware of their predisposition by their mothers. And whether having that knowledge impacted their eventual behaviour or whether their environment either suppressed or highlighted it. Arrrggh! Only 1 episode and my wheels are turning!
  19. I'm sorry if this has already been shared before but I came across this on YT and I'm dying over the scenes of the two of them together! It only gets better!
  20. @SnT I watched that video at least 5x! It's obvious they develop real and deep feelings for each other but it's so sad that he ends up giving her a divorce letter. BUT THE KISS!!!!!
  21. Woah! This thread sure moves fast! I enjoyed reading all of your comments. Both Shiyi and LingYi are smart and prudent. I think Shiyi didn't think twice about teaching embroidery because (a) she has a close relationship with her teacher and likely feels indebted to her and (b) it was her idea after all to have the women learn embroidery and likely felt that she was supporting LingYi's initiative in her own way. I also think that when she entered the marriage, she knew full well that it was only to take care of Zhun and only because Yangnian had asked LingYi. This, to me, means she doesn't really consider herself LingYi's wife but more like a "fill-in". This is why it doesn't really bother her when the concubines try to take privileges from her. To her, it's all about getting things done since she is there for a purpose. I think this might also be contributing to why she doesn't see LingYi as a "husband" in a romantic way. What I liked about LingYi gifting Shiyi the fan, accepting her shoes and buying back her land deeds plus more land - is that it actually showed a thoughtfulness on his part and an effort to go above and beyond. We can see that LingYi is fair and honourable and we see this in the way he deals with all the women. However, he is careful to draw a line. He only does the bare minimum according to what he thinks is appropriate. He doesn't go above and beyond. But we see a difference with Shiyi. He could've bought her a gift to show his appreciation but instead he MADE her a gift. He was EAGER to wear the shoes she gifted him. He WENT THE EXTRA MILE in not only buying back her land deeds but also TOOK THE TIME to assess her assets and purchased adjacent land so that she would have an advantage. Another thing I really liked was when he stayed for lunch at Shiyi's and he ended up trying the food she liked. With all the other women, they would always serve him what he liked. But with Shiyi, he was willing to adapt to her and understand her preferences. I like that he is trying to get to know her - why she likes the dishes she likes, what kind of tea she prefers over flowered teas.. He once thought of her as young and with the same goals and mindset as YangNian and now he's starting to realize that she is different. I think too that because Shiyi doesn't look at LingYi as a ticket/advantage, she is able to actually look at him as a person and understand him. I love love loved that scene where they're on the pavilion and she says to him "you're worried about something that bothers you but feel powerless to do anything about it.." you can see he's surprised that she was able to glean that. And yet she didn't pry nor offer any advice. She simply made an observation. The other women would have tickled his ears, or thought of how they might benefit from the situation. She didn't.
  22. Just watched episode 1 and I have to say it’s good so far. I honestly didn’t see it coming - I was surprised to find out who the head hunter was! This drama is not really a genre I typically watch so I’m not used to it. I have to admit I squirmed in my chair a few times. I actually debated in the middle of the episode if I should continue or stop watching because it was so disturbing for me. Lol But I think it’s well done and I am curious to see how the rest of it pans out. I haven’t seen subbed version of the trailer for ep 2 so I have no idea what they’re saying. Lol I guess I’ll just have to wait to watch the episode.
