  1. From tvN. I love the little interactions between the leads from the first episode! Scene shots plus some line quotes underneath. "어떻게 시간만 공평할 수 있냐? 공격받고 있어 현실한테" #오늘의 청춘기록 #꿈과 현실 사이 #시간이 없다 <청춘기록> 9월 7일 [월] 밤 9시 첫 방송 매주 [월화] 밤 9시 방송 The caption under the poster is a quote of one of HJ's lines that he says to his friends: "How is it that only time is fair to everyone? I'm in the middle of being beaten up, by reality." #record of today's youth #the distance between a dream and reality #there is no time <Record of Youth> September 9th [Mon] night 9 pm first broadcast Every week [Mon, Tues] 9 pm broadcast "너 팬한 거 너무 잘했다는 생각이 들어" #오늘의 청춘기록 #덕업일치 #안 정하고 살아요 Under the poster, this is a line that she says to herself which HJ overhears as he walks up to her: "I think it is very good that I became your fan" #record of today's youth #agreement on a virtuous achievement #Living without having decided "내 힘으로 성공했단 걸 보여주고 싶어, 그거 하나만은 존중해줘" #오늘의 청춘기록 #정정당당 #노력의 차이 This is a line that HH says to his mother to ask her to back off of his career since he wants to do it on his own. Poor baby that his mother can't just let him do this much less anything on his own. "I want to show that I've succeeded on my own. Please respect just this one thing." #record of today's youth #firm and resolute #difference of effort
  2. I love his new drama, even if I've only watched the first episode thus far! This pic isn't from his drama, but for some reason, I always think he's so cute when he crinkles up like this that I wanted to post this photo. So, here is a pic of PBG looking gorgeous in his new drama! With a smitten PSD doing his make up, of course.
  3. I suppose this is off topic to this thread since this thread is about the Japanese version, but I have to say that I enjoyed both the TW and the K versions for different reasons. I thought that the ML was quite a lot meaner in the TW version, but it also felt more raw, emotional, and urgent. Perhaps because the OTP is quite a bit younger in the TW version, so they both also had some growing up to do. In the K version where the leads were older, it felt more measured, plus I'm not sure I bought the argument that they felt compelled to get married as much as I did in the TW version. However, I loved the OTP, and the comedy wasn't quite as slapstick as in the TW version. Overall, I thought the K version was more polished with a more sympathetic protagonist in Jang Hyuk. Though, watching the TW version was what started my lust for Ethan Ruan.
  4. In any one minute, I'm usually trying to figure out if there is anything I'm supposed to be doing, or whether I want a cup of coffee! Trying to change fate in 1 minute? Yeah, mate, ain't gonna happen to me, I guess. But as you say, October 26th will be here soon enough and then we'll find out about the mystical 1 minute phone call!
  5. I don't know if it's because you're so excited about this drama @katakwasabi, but I'm starting to get excited about this drama as well. What genre is this drama? Hope it will be fun!
  6. Definitely. There is going to be some pain and some angst. I mean this is about youth trying to persevere despite being beaten down. However, I think it'll ultimately be a healing drama, which for me means that they are going to kick butt and take no prisoners! Honestly, though, it was a good first episode. Can't wait to catch the second episode tomorrow.
  7. Thanks so much for this review! I've been wishy-washy on whether to watch this drama or not, but you make it sound like such fun! And, I'm definitely curious about the fusion wardrobe!
  8. Can't argue with that. I'm looking forward to watching the Glory of the Special Force, and seeing a more manly version of him.
  9. The roles may be about e-sports, but perhaps that is because e-sports is becoming more prominent in the RL? Anyway, just happy to see him in a role.
  10. I didn't realize this. Why did they object to his taking on the role? Overly possessive fans are scary.
  11. Ohmygosh! There is actual legislation in the Korean National Assembly to allow entertainers who have made "great contributions" to delay their enlistments! Jin was supposed to have enlisted some time next year. However, this may mean that he can put it off another 2 years! That would allow BTS a clear path to continued world domination for at at least the foreseeable future. BTS is huge, both for South Korean soft power and for their GDP, but given how controversial anything to do with military enlistments are, I wasn't expecting even a delay in the enlistment age. We'll have to keep a close eye on this one. However, because it's a delay rather than a waiver, I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this. In some ways, it would be good to have Jin just go and do his service and then come back to us.
  12. True. That is high praise from Jackie Chan who is himself such a hard worker.
  13. That's true, though with the number of single mothers and single fathers in kdramas these days, it seems as if society in general is becoming more tolerant? At least as reflected in dramas. Legal status, in Korea, can be conferred to the child by putting the child on the father's registry.
  14. I'm actually okay with YangYang being in modern dramas. I'm not really into all those flowing locks of hair in historical dramas. And, I love his smart suited looks! I can't tell whether he's a good actor, though my suspicions is that he still needs to learn more about his craft. However, I do enjoy watching him in a role.
  15. Something so adorable about Jasper Liu. Like him even more after watching some episodes of Twogether. Is he really that sweet and relatively innocent?
  16. I didn't think it was really about cheating. Isn't it that the hero married one woman because he got her pregnant while he was still in love with another? I have conflicting feelings about this, especially in this day and age, the father could claim and co-parent the child without marrying the mother. @Phikyl, have you had a chance to watch this Japanese version yet? If yes, did you watch the TW and K versions enough to do a contrast?
  17. Forgot to mention, I really loved Kim Hye Yoon's cameo as Lee Bo Ra, the make up artist ex-girlfriend of the rather arse-y star Park Do Ha as played by Kim Gun Woo. On the one hand, hope it's not some weird foreshadowing that a make up artist breaks up with a star. Still, Kim Hye Yoon is so good at playing feisty characters. The last time I saw Kim Gun Woo, on the other hand, was as the arse-y Kim Tak Su who was the opponent to Park Seo Joon's character Go Dong Man in Fight for My Way. So, perhaps Kim Gun Woo is specializing in playing jerks? Anyway, I enjoyed their cameos and watching Lee Bo Ra get her own back against Park Do Ha. Especially since PDH dared to leave a scratch on HJ's face! Grrrr.
  18. Crash Landing On You 사랑의 불시착 Director: Lee Jung Hyo Writer: Park Ji Eun Original Broadcast: December 14, 2019 to February 16, 2020 Starring: Hyun Bin Son Ye Jin Kim Jung Hyung Seo Ji Hye Background Crash Landing On You was always going to have a troublesome public perception issue on its hands. It was telling the story of a cross border romance between a North Korean military officer and a South Korean heiress in the modern day, and treat it as more of a romantic comedy rather than a melodrama or a tragedy as other works have done. The issue has to do with the fact that a Korea that has been divided for going on seven decades not only exists, but that North Korea is the most reclusive and repressive regime in the world today, with families still divided. The division of Korea is still a very sore point for many people in both North and South Korea, with a hope of reunification still a very hot topic. While the lengthy separation and development of the two Koreas has led to marked differences and cultural alienation, CLOY tackles the task of trying to humanize the North Koreans to a South Korean (and international) market. As such, its depiction of the North Korean village where most of it is set is to treat it as a bucolic rural village with comedic touches of black market trade, inconsistent public transportation, and village hierarchy based on the official positions of the husbands or other family members. The drama does make brief references to the beggar orphans who lead appalling lives as non-persons in NK and to the all-invasive, all-controlling state, but these references are marginalized or not referenced for most of the drama until near the end. As such, it does a good job of creating sympathetic North Korean characters, but it may do so at the expense of the most prominent of the South Korean characters who are depicted as greedy, suspicious, fake, back stabbers whose primary concern is for themselves. Not all South Korean characters are depicted as such, of course, but the ones who aren’t do not have much of a role. But, the question remains whether with this is as a backdrop, the romantic comedy worked as a plot, and actually, it does for a majority of the story. The OTP have good chemistry together making you want to root for them to be together and happy. Plus, they have the kind of dialogue which is both playful and earnest which makes them a fun watch and listen. Plot and Review - warning - major spoilers Commentary It may be my personal gripe that the ending doesn’t offer much of a resolution to whether they are able to be together or not. Given that this drama was a comedy, I thought that it would eke out a happy ending of some kind. I had wondered if the drama would tackle the idea of reunification in some future Korea which would finally enable the OTP to be together, or whether it would separate them, or just give them an unrealistic happy ever after ending somewhere even if it went agains their portrayed characters. But instead, the drama uses a bit of a cheat to delay that question of whether the OTP can truly be together. Again, it’s a clash of what the drama is trying to accomplish coming up against the realities of using a real world setting and scenario. Ultimately, this drama felt very busy and not very engaging when it wasn’t focusing on the central chemistry and romance of the OTP. Even the second lead romance felt as if it lacked spark and progression, despite some really emotionally touching moments, especially by Kim Jung Hyun as the amoral conman who actually turns out to be a pretty good guy, Goo Seung Joon. Goo Seung Joon had the only true moment that gave me pause in the final episodes as he’s running away from NK soldiers who want to take him in for questioning. There is a moment where he is hiding, and some NK street orphans are complicit in hiding him. GSJ comments that the orphan is also like him in that neither of them have any parents nor anyone to cry for them when they die. GSJ’s sparse back story as an orphan parallels CCG’s story of being an orphan, and is reflected in this moment with the nameless street orphan that GSJ addresses. However, this issue of orphans being disposable people whether they grow up in NK or SK isn’t really explored, but rather put into a pithy observation. Despite that, this drama really relies on the chemistry between Hyun Bin’s RJH and Son Ye Jin’s YSR. They actually demonstrated their chemistry before in the cat-and-mouse thriller of The Negotiation, and their romance sparks are good enough that it’s created a legion of real life shipper fans as well. HB’s comedic timing was shown to great effect in Secret Garden, but it is more refined here and burnished with his action star credentials as well as his generally acclaimed dramatic acting skills. Son Ye Jin slides easily into her role here as one which is similar to roles that she has done before in her diverse repertoire of roles. Both visually and chemistry-wise, they do make a great OTP. It is in the actual story itself that I found flaws in depiction, execution, and satisfaction. It is hard to separate out the real world aspects that this drama doesn’t reflect as it pertains to their romance if it had been real. While I watched it the first time wondering how they planned to resolve their various issues, the ending left me unsatisfied enough that I don’t really feel the need to watch it again, even for the great OTP chemistry. 19. I know, right! Their scene, especially when HJ reaches out to his grandfather so that they can be moral support for each other is so sweet! I don't have the father because I do think that the father wants the best for his son, but it's clear that the father still harbors resentment on a number of issues with his father/the grandfather. The implication is that HJ's father keenly felt that his own father did not necessarily approve of his choices, maybe because the father did not inherit the good looks from the grandfather? Not to mention, the grandfather did make the mistake of getting conned out of his son's money. :( HJ's father also makes it clear that what's important is being able to make enough money to live on. I agree with that to an extent, but feel that everyone should get a chance to follow their dream before being forced to give it up. I suppose this drama is exploring how long youth should/could follow their dreams? And, love all the other points that you make, and so agree with you!
  20. Preview of episode 2 JH: I was nervous. Do you know how nervous I was? MJ: Hey Daniel! It’s me! MJ: I caused some trouble, Hye Joon. HJ: I can just start again. Director: Look at Hae Hyo who started with you. Because he has a good background, he’s constantly able to succeed. HJ: If I can’t do it on my own, then I should quit. Father: Then you can just go to the military now. HJ: You’re my family! You said you want what’s best for me! GJ: Is a family supposed to solve everything for you? HJ: Then, don’t tell me how to live my life. Btw, I'm hoping that MJ will agree to be HJ's manager. She's such a feisty lady and she also knows the entertainment world, so she'll fight for HJ the way that he needs someone to fight for his roles for him. Unlike the scummy CEO of HJ's former management agency. Seriously, that was another highlight when HJ insisted on signing a formal dissolution with the scumbag. So, he can't go back and insist on HJ being his artist still in the future.
  21. Just watched the first episode, and this had better be a healing drama because it's definitely not a rom-com, and I don't want to be crying about it. Still, I was hooked by about a third of the way through the episode, and it wasn't just Park Bo Gum's good looks that mesmerized me, though there was that, also. The discussion about the first episode is in the spoiler since I do mention some spoilers. The overall tone of this drama has been a bit downbeat for the start, but that is necessary to create sympathy for the main characters who are all young and trying to realize their respective dreams. Though there is a mix of circumstances and backgrounds, the drama seems to be trying to show that everyone has their issues to overcome. It was a strong start with a gorgeous cast. I'm just hoping that there isn't a love triangle with HJ, JH, and HH, though the posters kind of hint at one. The acting of PBG, PSD, and the veterans in the cast have all been stellar, while the newbies are being given a chance to slowly make their impact rather than having to do any heavy lifting. It feels like the sure hand of an experienced director who isn't going to hamfist it. The production values are also very good, with it looking more like film scenes rather than tv episodes. I'm really looking forward to the 2nd episode. Since this is PGB's last drama prior to his enlistment (Oppa! I'll wait for you to come back! ), I was hoping that it would be a good production. So far, it's good in that it's engaging, and I want to find out more about the various characters as well as watch them on their journey towards whatever life may hold for them.
  22. Loved your review as always! And, I loved this drama! I kind of liked the ending actually even if it's not entirely clear and definitive. It basically allows each viewer to go with the explanation that they want most. The ending of this drama and the original British one as well always reminded me of an episode of the old original episodes of Twilight Zone where there was a person who in one life was a paraplegic but in her dream life she had a family and children. It ultimately posed the question, though, of which was the dream life and which was the real life and what choices one makes. I'll have to go look up the episode name at some point, unless somebody knows it off hand.
  23. Awww! Your badge is so cute! I have to get serious about putting a submission together for the event. Maybe something with Tiny Tans. Though if anyone else is inspired to do it, maybe I'll just be able to vote for it?
  24. Ohmygosh! KSH's bit of dancing around in 2 is so hysterical! I mean, yeah, he's cute and all, but it's also nice to know that he can just have fun without being self conscious about it. So sweet!
