  1. Hahaha Thanks to you and @mademoiselle for making me feel better that he did not sacrifice 2 fingers to become a toilet cleaner (toilet cleaners are a noble job...but just not worth 2 finger cost!) This show is really dark! What were you watching as a child...was this animated or real people acting? If you ever find out please let me know because I would be curious to find out the ending too Have you guys seen the new rebooted Sabrina the Teenage Witch on Netflix? In a way it reminds me aesthetically of The Witch's Diner - It's much more darker and gory than the last one, but it's also comical and comic book cheesy at time. I quite like it, even when it's sometimes so weird or I cringe at some cheese. However, if I'd seen this new version as a kid I would have been so traumatised...haha The cast chemistry is super cute in real life though - main pair really like teasing their shippers on Instagram! But you're totally right - the old 90's Sabrina was not scary at all! Hahaha, that plant is super cute I think Dark Comedy or Black comedy is a good description of the genre - it's like a bit more cynical or ironic in it's humour rather than laugh out loud humour. Somehow I could imagine if you encountered the witch, you'd be bargaining for discount on your wish Hehehe, 8 episodes so less chance you will drop it? Yay, another one for GY and Jin People seem to like GY and Jin on Twitter - I've had so many messages and retweets about it. I guess it's because they could prepare for age gap/ his age wasn't hidden and dropped as a surprise like DDSSLLS
  2. Hahaha, as you know I don't mind a one episode a week schedule. But I wish the drama was longer 8 Episodes feels like just a tease. I think the story will be told well, but it would be much more lovely to see some deeper development with the main trio. I wouldn't mind this...but wonder what Director Oh is aside from a magical shadow Me too! It looks so stressful and those type of job interviews with 6 people in a row all listening to each other's answers look like torture I'd probably fail all the job interviews and just be a bum I think what I am relating to with @SilverMoonTea is how she constantly puts herself through controversial romances and looking for crumbs in very mild romances We already relate in that we both like intense romantic tension even if the romance is not quite there (Actually this year, I think I've really lapped up the mild romances. Everyone was disappointed in the Daebak Real Estate/ Sell Your Haunted House non-romance romance, but I still liked it ) How do you live through it all, Tea? And why do they always love putting my legal Oppas in school uniforms and have them hard crushing on young working noonas?! I watched GY's wish scenes a few times when the episode came out and I thought the reason he liked her was implied through the scenes rather than what he said explicitly to the witch . He said when they first met she didn't know how tired she was and he'd like her to smile more. Her smile looked pretty. He wanted to see it more often. What is implied through the scenes chosen for the flashback: he realises that she's a really empathic and kind person (which is why she's crying and gives him conflicting advice about why it sucks being nice). She also carries a positive spark and tries not to burden others when she's clearly suffering herself. The line about her smile being pretty was not so much to attribute a reason as to why he liked her, but was said as an emphasis of his wish - about how he wanted to see her be a much happier person I also think GY is actually smarter than the rest of the people who have made wishes with the witch. He's acutely aware that there is a price to be paid for any wish you make and that wishes may not be all they seem. Which is why I thought he was being somewhat careful with what he revealed. Because his reason for liking her sounds so simple, and his wish relating to Jin is so basic, even the witch is taken aback and asks him if he won't regret the whole thing. Hehe, GY doesn't give the witch much to work with I think the world as well as above bit with GY's reasons would have been better fleshed out if the series was the standard 16 episode series rather than just 8. I feel like there's lots of reading between the lines and implied meanings in this series, which can be confusing. Director Oh seems to be a bit of a minion? Whether he has a deeper role, we shall see.
  3. I didn't realise Jung Chae Yeon was going to be in this too. I quite like her also....so many beautiful people in this drama. I'm gonna watch this Even though I'm not drawn to Sageuk, this story looks good and I'm probably watching Return too...so may as well watch all the EY boys in historical dramas Hope both PEB and RW are safe and covid-free!
  4. Wow, can't believe this. Although not a huge fan so rarely follow his news, I really hope he's ok and it's not the serious version of covid. Also hope all the cast and staff are safe and healthy Especially Hwang In Yeop!!!
  5. Those W Korea photos: I really liked that Yonex photoshoot TJS and LJI did awhile ago. It was such a big booklet of photos...if only they did those types of large photo shoots for all K-dramas
  6. I agree it's good that the series covered this topic and also that it didn't just feature one female player but also focused on HS's journey, history and romance line. In regards to Coach Ra, I think she's super competitive and so SY is her key to winning and been seen as a good coach. However, I think most of us believe what's inspirational in a coach is not training a consistent winner, but supporting players with potential so that even underdogs feel confident enough to win You're right - that's why Coach Yoon is a good coach when he doesn't over drink He doesn't treat his son or Bang as better players and he's not so concerned about winning being the end goal - by focusing on the boy's growth they naturally become winners I'm so sad that they finished filming...the end is nearrrr I've actually really enjoyed this series. It's sitting on my favourites list for this year
  7. Hahaha first time reality worked in favour compared to expectations KSH exceeded our expectations Reminds me of Yum Cha. Man I miss Yum Cha in lockdown Haha, you and your no second lead rule I am happy for KSH's upgrade though. Not everyone makes it to first lead tier (I'm looking at Yoon Park ) I'll be here! KSH and drama aesthetics look pretty and I think I'll be pretty free from live dramas by then.
  8. Hahaha it is the eternal drama jumper. Maybe it's a hand-me-down between different drama actors I will continue to report if I see it. Reminds me of Where's Wally pattern and I always seem to find it in a crowd Hahaha he's Jung Gun Joo. Someone once said he should play Kim Seon Ho's little brother...and I can see it! Yeah, he's close but not quite in the Oppa tracker yet. But he is doing well for second lead! Hahaha is @SilverMoonTea doing that thing where she looks for romance where there is hardly any/ no romance? Btw I started Signal last night since I'm up to date with all the live watch dramas and did you say you shipped actors in that?! Important! I love a good jawline Personal Oppa news: I currently have it bad for Chae Jong Hyeop. I think it's because he gives me very strong Jasper and Greg Hsu vibes
  9. I don't blame those citizens at all. It's a huge risk to the country But I also understand why they went ahead with it I guess. If they hadn't had built the facilities etc, cancelling would have made so much sense. But they must have had a lot of pressure externally too. I hope all the guests follow the rules and that the Japanese have lots of systems in place to contain any outbreaks. My faves too! Australia generally does well at Swimming so always nice to see wins there! The women's 400m today was such a watch! Ariarne caught up and surpassed in the last 50m to win gold...how do they have such energy at the very end??? I'm always amazed Hahaha, this one is Malaysia's speciality! Haha, I've got Peru v. Estonia's badminton match running in the background at the moment. I feel guilty - I missed the Opening ceremony because I was watching Rackets Boys Netflix "olympics" Oh well, I'll catch up on highlights sometimes soon.
  10. Looks like there could be a wait due to trying to co-ordinate actors The problems of trying to multi-season an all star cast since K-dramas are often only 1-2 seasons
  11. Yesssss!!! Before, when someone asked me, I couldn't think of who would fit the bill to play the Korean role since it requires a certain type of youthful charm and maturity at the same time. But now that you mention it I think CJH would be a good fit The only thing is with the time travel/ time lines, some of the characters age, so they might have to use make up to visually age him a fair bit since he looks quite youthful. What good genes CJH does give me Greg Hsu and Jasper Liu vibes which is why I think I'm so taken with him. I think he's forced his way into the VIP tier of my heart
  12. True! Since it paid the price already, I guess we assume it's a good job. Maybe it'll be shown briefly in a different ep... Haha, that was what I was thinking too. Sigh, no one here is very good at being specific about what they what. So possible that is what GY is stuck with. That phrase is really macabre, isn't it? And it's always used in weddings. In terms of horror, makes me think of corpse bride type scenarios (though that was a cute animated cartoon film). Isn't it weird how you're left with traumas from things you watched as a kid?! Haha, you have a lot of witchy shows you saw in the past that seemed to have stayed a long time...the ideas and scenes you've mentioned sound quite scary. I don't think I have any witch related ones, or at least I remember the films with witches. A movie which I don't know, but remember a traumatising scene of is this: A girl (who is dressed as a boy) is caught by enemy soldiers and whipped till her back is bleeding and then they press salt/ sand into it and and she screams What was I watching as a kid?! I think it was a Cantonese film, but it's my no context film trauma
  13. Haha nah, I heard it wasn't so good as a drama? But then again sometimes I don't know if I'll like it till I try it. But it's ok Chae Jong Hyeop, you can do better than Park Shin Hye Sounds like it would be very pricey! Yeah, I would think he would know how to speak some at least! I haven't seen it yet, but I guess it's a meaningful film about rising above racism I think. Makes me curious to watch it now! More Witch's Diner gifs:
  14. Just finished watching it and damn, Ashin, you savage girl. I like your style Haha, I enjoy anti-hero origin stories and she's definitely an anti-heroine in this case. A smart one who holds deep grudges and can trust no one around her. I was surprised that Jun Ji-Hyun was only really in half the film - her young counterpart held up pretty well! I also enjoy the trope of the crazed person who keeps their family members alive as zombies - Happens in almost every zombie series Against the original storyline, I wonder if she will be the crown prince's enemy, since he is a relative of the royal family, but also not aligned with them? One of the main things I like about the Kingdom series is even though there are a lot of parties and factions involved, it's quite easy to follow along with what's happening in my opinion. Even when I started this episode, I wasn't fully aware of which clan was which, but it's definitely not hard to understand what happened when you get to the bit where she finds her father. That bit was so so so so sad - years of torture and he must have been in so much pain to beg for death Haha, don't know if cultivating a zombie farm was the best idea, but also don't blame Ashin for setting them upon the people who used her father as a scapegoat. What evil people after Ashin's father showed so much loyalty and trust in them. What I don't understand though was why weren't the people bitten by the tiger transformed? I thought that was going to be the origin of the zombies. They were mauled by something infected, but it didn't indicate that the zombies started then...was it because they were animals and the infection must be transmitted via infected human bite? She's definitely good at doing cold and savage. Got chills when she got back at the evil soldiers and shots them down one by one while they fought! But with that said I was so sad for the scene with her father. It was well done! Whaaaaat? Already???
  15. Episodes 8 - 10 - The sad thing about the blue bag is that NYW think's it's an expensive gift and feels uncomfortable getting it, but to Gyeom it probably isn't that costly. What's more, even when she's trying to guess who gave it to her, she guesses Dragon who is YJS...so she's just fated to be with YJS - Haha YJS reverts to stingy behaviour when he's jealous. I laughed that he told NYW not to waste time in the car and go back to work and she asked him for company card to catch a taxi - Oh poor Gyeom! He was so happy typing that email and preparing flowers and cake, but she just returned the bag Second lead life, huh? But I'm so pleased to see he discovers Mira's secret and is helpful to her. She's so cute and has such a big crush on him! It's rare that the second lead has a chance at finding a girl worthy of them...but I think Mira is so sweet in this series ...I hope he notices her because I back this second pairing strongly! - Poor NSS - I had a feeling he would finally get a housing subscription but lose his girlfriend! Isn't that always the way of the world, you gain one thing and lose another! Haha, there is so much potty humour around him...but it does make me laugh. Especially when Chan and Gyeom thought he was going to kill himself, but it turns out he just needed to poop on the way to the volunteer spot. - Many romantic moments in Episode 8 - YJS was so sweet to let her pick out all the furniture so she would comfortable at his place. And then when he catches her as she falls And finally the confession...it felt like it took awhile to get to this point! YJS's "YES!" reaction in the car where he was super happy after the confession was so funny... - Wow, NYW looked so pretty in that black dress! I don't blame YJS for not being able to take his eyes off of her at this point! - Although I understand NYW's feelings of shame after overhearing YJS telling someone off for having no savings, as well YJS pretending to be extra mean to her to cover up them dating, I did feel quite tired of the extent of the misunderstandings (like can things be not totally hot and cold for just one moment), though it was funny that YJs thought he had been dumped after only 1 day of dating - But dating in a way that no one knows proves to be quite tricky! It's a good thing they could take trips out to survey houses (ie. do piggybacks and eat shrimp) and get away from UJ and other workmates I'm glad they chose to tell UJ first so that she would back them, though it was a process since she was so angry at first (but they also seemed to have the most chance of running into her in their off time ) - You know what was cute....NYW's apology to her friend UJ - I love that she got rid of her cigarettes and filled them with rolled papers of compliments - the old fashioned way to play the game. Friends are the best! - Finally they kissed in episode 10! I think this has been quite a wait for a kiss compared to other dramas I've seen this year, but it was a nice scene under the fairylights, so at least it was pretty!
  16. This is a smart read into the story! I didn't really link this scene, but yes, it seems like a clue into both their pasts I feel like it would be too rushed just to launch into the episodic stories without first showing the main character experiencing the true horror of "getting what you wish for." Also it seems like something happened in Jin's childhood (and most likely Gil Yong's), so the set up of the character's backstories might be important going forwards I agree with @Tofu and @mademoiselle in that it was a mistake because she didn't wish for the woman to die, just to get what she deserved (she was so totally horrified when she found out that was death). Heera manipulated Jin's wish and interpreted it in the way she wanted because Jin didn't say (or think) specifically what type of "revenge" she wanted I think the show is smart because Jin's remorse isn't shown through her crying and yelling about what a bad person she was (which would have been pointless) - she knows she can't reverse her actions, but she's now proactive and warns all the wish-makers about how dire the price of their wishes might be. She's also punishing herself in her subconscious through her nightmares of the dead woman too Haha, to be honest, I found Jin's wish understandable in her situation, as I'm sure we all have at some point in our anger. I'd like to think I'm not a bad person and have helped a lot of people before. But recently I had a similar experience to Jin's in that someone tried to do something bad to my parents. If a witch had appeared, I can't say I would have been morally above Jin The difference is I'm very careful and would have been really, really specific so they wouldn't have died, just that they got a taste of their own medicine...Jin just never had good experience reading the terms of a contract Hahaha, I need a love line because it's CJH's first lead role and I want him to get the girl You're right SJH plays a really enticing witch character and the role really suits her I am totally getting chemistry flutters from Jin and Gil Yong It's fairly cute and innocent though Haha, I also thought about this too! But I think since Gil Yong said he wants to work towards things for them to be sincere, I feel like he has maybe saved himself from that happening. It sounds like he could accept the failure of his choices, so I feel like Heera is not tempted to use that against him. The extremes she might take it to is sticking them together forever (ie. what you said about turning Jin like herself and Gil Yong like Director Oh). I feel like that intruder guy did get a discount on his price. Two fingers is quite a difference to his whole arm Hahaha, love how you thought about them being stitched back. Would have been nice to see him getting a job...l don't know if he was specific enough either. Like hope he specified his dream job otherwise he might just become toilet cleaner or something unexpected and he had to pay 2 fingers for that
  17. Just watched Episode 3 and I'm liking this series a lot! Like @mademoiselle I was surprised when it was over because it felt so short! But this is what happens when a series is only 8 eps and 40-45 mins per ep! Btw, I'm glad I finished dinner before watching because I would not have done it with the fingers and the old lady's ghost and the silkie chicken Episode 3 - It took awhile to set up the backstory for the intruder with the knife, but his story was so relatable. I think a lot of people have had the experience of not necessarily getting the job they dreamed of as a child or feeling like the worst candidate at a job interview. His story shows that people generally don't do bad things in a vacuum (unless maybe if you're a psychopath). Most people are driven to bad acts out of desperation - Jin definitely seems to have some witchy powers herself with her ability to read witch ingredients and see people's personal histories. I think the theory that someone had here of Jin being the "price" paid for a previous wish made by her parents sounds really plausible. Maybe she was in danger or lost as a child and the wish was to save her? Heera seems to be claiming as her protégé - I really like Heera the witch I think she's the perfect amount of frostiness, cynicism and madness...And the way she intimidates with her powers....she's my dream witch and one of the big draw cards to this series - Haha, I think it's lucky that Jin spoke up for intruder guy - he got a price discount from one arm to two fingers only But the way he lost them, sliced off, was painful - Yeah, @Tofu that silkie chicken did look slippery like rubber My feelings about all the foods so far is that they look simultaneously grotesque and beautiful and artificial. I'm sure that's the effect they're going for anyway - like something that both draws you in and repulses you. And the sound effects are next level - I think this week it sounded like really gross gobbling sounds and the chicken sounded rubbery - Gil Yong is so lovely, sticking up for everyone I don't blame that girl in class for liking him. Heh, she's the 'young' version of the mum from 18 Again Don't tell me she eventually goes to the diner wishing Gil Yong will like her?! - Jin is really paying the price for her revenge wish...I jump EVERY time, even though I know now that the ghost will come out at some point - Gil Yong's wish was soooo cute...though I'm not surprised that he wished that I feel like he's what a healthy person should be like...but most of us are a little more twisted than we should be I like that he's sure pure and knows the value of earning things and working through the journey rather than just getting instant gratification. I think because he's so pure, Heera isn't able to do much to him...or even if she does, she'll just take it to the extreme that they will have to stick together for all of eternity...which I'm sure Gil Yong would not mind at all
  18. JGJ is doing a good job as second lead. I like him Not sure if he's gained strong Oppa status yet, but he is such a sweetheart all the time. I think I like all the Extraordinary You boys though, especially now that they have better hairstyles than they did in EY Awww this is so cute. Baby mademoiselle riding a dog that probably was not meant to be a horse Hahaha I can't help it. I think I notice because of the lines - they're fuzzy, not clear, so when I look at it...it makes me feel like my eye sight has gotten worse And it's literally in every second drama! I'm struggling to understand it's appeal as character costume or fashion Nope! But @SilverMoonTea's picture's have made me more interested in him There's a whole sub-thread for him in this thread alone! Hahaha Tea's Oppa sound like very dainty piano players
  19. Damnnnn... I'm calmly drinking bubble tea, but it's quite hot in here...
  20. I'm not really a sageuk watcher, but I'll give it a go. I mean I don't think I'm put off entirely by them since dramas like Extraordinary You had some sageuk scenes, but I'm not really drawn to the genre as a whole...but will give it a go and see how it fares for LJW's sake You can kind of see the hairstyle/ costumes in some pictures that a crew member posted:
  21. I like a well travelled guy But that's seriously a lot of travel and he's definitely more worldly than a lot of people his age in age who haven't had the same chances to live elsewhere. Wonder if it's coz his parents do work that take them abroad often? And wow, the South Africans could already see that he was handsome! But wonder why it didn't go well?
  22. Hehe, it's a sageuk drama or partially sageuk drama! So I'm guessing they need to add extensions and make his hair not look too modern?
  23. Haha, I don't mind the hair, but not a fan of that mustard turtleneck shirt Apparently his hair is long at the moment because he's forced to grow it out for his next role (I'm guessing he means Return). He talked about it on V-Live and has said he'd like to cut it, but I'm guessing he can't till the shoot is over. Thanks for the rest of the Esquire pics! Haha, Extraordinary You is a really good drama in terms of storyline and fun characters. I simultaneously wanted to slap and hug Baek Kyung (LJW's character) so many times But yeah, if you're avoiding sad endings for your fave Oppas, you'd probably not want to take on this one even though it's a good drama. But yeah, he hooked me as a fangirl from this drama onwards
  24. Hahaha, you found LJW young! Hahaha ohhh I know of him, but not much. Also don't always recognise him on sight. He's the Dinner mate guy, right? Why is he called Derek here? Omo! This is sooooo cuteee!!! I want to join the doggies and SIG. Too many adorable things in this video all at once! Hahaha, you rode a big dog? Cute! Was it one of those giant mountain dogs or just like a golden retriever? Also here is a chain mail present for you...hope it comes true if you retweet it The responses on twitter to this have been pretty funny! https://twitter.com/peeeygguk/status/1418203728654438404/photo/1 Hahahaha, no lah, I do maths to prove to you I'm not using dirty skills to mark up LJW's age He's a '98er...2021-1998 = 23! Hahaha, all my Oppas are 20+...I feel no guilt Hahaha...wow, he has been around since the beginning! I'll have to investigate whether I've ever seen one of his movies or anything. I only know of him, but even then, not much. But there are definitely actors who I've never seen anything of before Haha yep yep was around in 2000 ers. Still remember the questionable fashion from then. Speaking of fashion, I have a conspiracy theory about this stripy jumper. Every guy in Korea owns one. It's like you need one to show you are a Korean man (This is not my Oppa by the way - he's a side character in Monthly Magazine House, but I have noticed this jumper because several Oppas have worn this including Lee Jae Wook, Kang Tae Oh and Jung Ga Ram)...haha I think @mademoiselle has also noticed....almost feel like starting a 'spot the stripy jumper thread'
