I really don't know about Lei Lei's drama. Will see how it is when it starts. He's being replaced by Chen Zhe Yuan (in Cdrama land) this year. 😂

Does that make you happy? 😂

@Chocolate why are you picking on pale skin too, like @SilverMoonTea? I just remember this belatedly from above posts, so asking the questions now. It's very rare for Chinese celebs not to be fair. They all compete to be the fairest of them all...

You mean @SilverMoonTea only likes skinny? I thought she likes both pale and skinny. Although I don't know which is worse 😅 Don't they look so sickly if they are pale? It's not normal skin tone - they are whiter than normal. In Korea, the only one I've seen like that is Lee Jong Suk - but at least he has bulk.

I have zero expectations for plot...just gonna watch it for Wu Lei.

So how is your Ha Seok Jin immersion coming along?

I gave up on Elvis show ahahaha since I had another cdrama to watch.

WL - haha i shall try to learn from you, I think of all his shows, he looks best in this.

    HSJ - still immersed lol.

Elvin - hahaha at least you lasted twice as long as me.

I couldn't find the thread for this, so I'm putting it here to tag @Chocolate. Hey, I keep seeing this on my TL, and the more I see it the more I think this is your cuppa! CEO style + forceful kind of kisses...?

Hahaha, you know me so well! But the ML is another pale skinny guy 😭 If anyone is watching and the plot decent, please buzz me.

In the meantime, I am seeing shots of Amidst a Snowstorm by Wu Lei. Remember how I said the novel and dialogue seemed to be dull? The tweet matches the shots with the novel - I'm quite worried now 😅

@Tofu my curtains are thermal curtains and block UV 😂. I just replaced them too because I damaged the previous one by putting it in the dryer 😅. It has a layer of acrylic that insulate and block the sun and UV. I live like a vampire 🧛‍♀️ indoor.

Hahaha don't you feel claustrophobic? I'm the opposite. I like my rooms bright - so all blinds up. In office, do you have colleagues who always want the tables near the window, and yet they pull all the blinds down!

I tried two more sunscreens --

    1. Round Lab Birch Moisturizing Sunscreen

Very light weight and didn't leave a white cast. It makes you look dewy so avoid if you don't like this kind of look.

    2. Biore UV Aqua Rich Sunscreen (thanks @Chocolate!)

Also light weight and my skin doesn't feel sticky after using it. No white cast with it either.

Both are worth checking out if you're in the market for a new sunscreen.

Birch is apparently good for moisturising too. Dewy is good - I shall try this if not oily.

I hardly use perfumes, only for special occasions which are sadly few and far between. So they just sit there and evaporate 😅

There is a 5sec rule for dropped food. That cloth has definitely been wiping for longer than that.

  9. I've finally finished this and the question at the top of my mind is - Why did JM shoot GC? I came to the conclusion that he saw that GC was going to shoot himself in the head, why waste that? If JM shoots GC, he could claim the credit of catching GC, which he did in his first call, instead of calling the ambulance. Am I wrong?

In the last few episodes, it felt like JM was driving the drug run, something similar to entrapment with sex workers. It seemed like it was his displeasure at seeing EJ and GC together that he wanted to end the undercover assignment asap, but it also seemed like he went a bit too deep/obsessed (走火入魔).

    On 10/14/2023 at 12:07 AM, abs-oluteM said:

So what  did you all think of the ending where JM left that private investigator to die? I think I would probably have to do the same to protect EJ and his cover. The Naver articles were playing it up, saying that he's become evil to fight evil, and hence the title "The Worst of Evil" .  Though I thought it really hasn't come to that point yet.

Morally, the first time you let someone die to protect yourself, it's time to stop the job. Of course, in reality, there are so many other considerations. For JM, it's that he valued completing the job to get his promotion more. As the drama progressed, you could see that he was developing evil tendencies. So with regards to @abs comment below, would his marriage have survived even if he did not shoot GC? I think not, because he has grown so much during this job that he wouldn't put up with her family's disrespect of him anymore. I also think he may start to find EJ naggy because she is too good a person. So I think he should just go HK to find HR 😂

On the side, wasn't it extremely satisfying to see HR kill that awful detective Mingoo! There were so many gangsters and no one kills him? Finally!

    On 10/27/2023 at 12:28 AM, abs-oluteM said:

GC being betrayed on so many levels hurts like hell. I keep thinking his downfall is his own doing...he was too kind as a gang leader don't you think? It wasn't just EuiJeong that was his "weakness", he wasn't ruthless enough. He should have not allowed Jung Bae to live.  But I suppose  that is also exactly why I ended up having so much love for GC. He treasured loyalty and wasn't ungrateful.  I wasn't expecting a fairy tale ending but I had this regret that GC never took that second chance  to truly reset his life.

I found this a good drama since I was engaged throughout. I didn't mind the ending too much @Dhakra since I was preparing myself  mentally for it. GC's death was tragic in some ways ( for me) but what came after that  was very sad. Had JM not shot GC, would the marriage have survived? Somehow I think JM's inferiority complex & her family looking down on him would have yielded the same result.

GC made a lot of mistakes, so the betrayals were his own fault.

    • Considering his line of work, he should never have taken in JM, as long as there was a whiff of suspicion, and especially when things started to go wrong. We have watched enough gangster dramas to know.
    • He should also have waited until after his last drug run to start anything with EJ.
    • Regarding Jung Bae, I felt for this guy, especially when Seo attacked him in the lift after he was kicked out by GC. So I can totally understand why he would rebel. They were friends since school and had built the gang together. It was unforgivable to have been deposed because GC now preferred new buddy JM. Yes, he may have embezzled but GC should look at the reason too. Why was the distribution of funds so inequitable - and then he was so willing to give up 10% to JM - it's no wonder Hee Sung rebelled too.
    • Plus JM planned to go straight all on his own? He didn't include or even share his plans with JB and HS? That's pure selfishness. A good leader would have at least given his people a choice, to follow him or to stay in the underworld.

So I feel that his downfall was not because he was not ruthless enough, but because he didn't care for his people enough, he was just using them to build his empire.

Even during the showdown, when GC asked her straight away if her feelings were ever genuine, she didn't stand her ground and told him that she only loves Junmo and is his wife.

From a woman's perspective, a nice woman 😜, we don't knock a friend when they are down. EJ did treat GC as a friend, seeing her numerous attempts to convince him to retire now. GC already knew they were lying to him, to further confirm that she never felt anything for him and was just doing her job, would take a very hard-hearted woman to do that. I wouldn't do it at that particular time too. Perhaps at a later time when things have settled down.

@Chocolate Ha Seok Jin has been on I Live Alone a few times. When you have time you can watch his parts. I don't remember much about them except that he just seems like every regular guy out there. Haha!

Yes! So regular from all the vids I’ve been watching, some even without subs. So I feel a bit conned because he was quite cool in Devil’s Plan - THAT guy is nowhere to be found 😂

I loved 1% ! It’s one of those old school I’m-coms . But maybe it’s also not everyone’s taste.  Don’t you think HSJ is a good kisser ? 😜 He has this very famous ( iconic ) scene here

1% is typical romcom plot and the kind I like to read. Perhaps because it is a 2016 drama, it's a bit hard to watch now. A lot of reviews say he had great chemistry with the FL but I didn't feel it. But I finished it so it was decent. Don't think I'm getting past ep 1 for Drinking Solo - the plot seems really bad.

Wah @abs-oluteM I laughed so hard at that video! He seemed so lecherous lol. And that BGM is straight out of porn!

But that drama supposedly to be part variety, so that scene is right in line with his real self haha. IRL apparently HSJ likes to smell things. In Devil's Play, all contestants were given a pouch with a reward piece. He smelled the inside and outside of that pouch. When asked why, he said that's what he usually does lol.

I'm not sure whether he is a good kisser. There were some articles that said he had good kisses in  1%, but it didn't look that good on screen I thought. This video is better. He really plasters his lips to the FL huh 😆

    Edit:
@mademoiselle Can you help find a link to this drama with chinese subs? Apparently there is chinese subs but no eng subs. I watched ep1 raw, and it's quite funny. The premise is they are 5 actors shooting a drama and the other "variety" part is before/after filming, they capture them to see if actors really fall in love with their co-stars. Quite interesting premise.

I like Lim Ji Yeon in The Glory and Lies Hidden In My Garden. She is versatile. But here, she irritates me occasionally because here character is too much of a "smart aleck"?

This drama is also too long.

MJ being the adult here needed to be less apologetic to her. I hated that they coerced Sang Hyun into helping them because troubling when an 11 year old is bossing 2 grown men around. Fortunately , SH didn't give her as much face as MJ did.

The other problem that I had with this show was Yoon Kye-sang's character. Yoon Kye-sang was terrific in the role but his character is too much of a pushover. He let himself get walked over by a 12-year-old. He's a dad FCOL. Regardless of whether she's a genius the dumb dad shtick got a bit old. It is supposed to be funny in an odd couple sort of way and it was... occasionally. But after a while, a child trying to patronize an adult especially in that context, breaks immersion.

I didn't find MJ a very likeable ML character. There was not much to support as a "hero" of the drama except that he is a good person who protects the children and somehow seems to have above average strength. I thought he would grow some smarts later to contribute to resolving the situation (since he obviously had high enough IQ to be selected by the older Mr Choi) but...

That final scene in Singapore reminds me of that 1978 film, The Boys from Brazil. Ugh. Creepy.

Was it Singapore? I thought the lady spoke Thai... Anyway, I don't really understand the ending. Does Ro Hee have a twin or are they clones? What was Ro Hee trying to tell Dr Mo? 🤔😅

From the start, I thought the show harping on Myeong Joon surrendering himself for kidnapping quite tenous. Nobody had any proof of kidnapping - that video showed MJ just came across Ro Hee on a public road and she fainted. There were many ways to spin this and Ro Hee could say anything she wanted to help the situation.

My favourite scenes are those between Hye Eun and Ro Hee. So glad they ended with this. KSR is an exceptional actress - I think not many could have done this scene as well.
