I have watched many of his dramas. He's a good actor but tends to be typecast playing arrogant / snob MLs who will soften later. He had lousy luck with his agencies too hence not getting the sort of roles he should get.
Seems Devil's Play has raised his profile. Hopefully he gets more opportunities after this.
People are also shipping him with Lee Si Won (for drama, because she is married). @mademoiselle she was Woo Jin Woo's ex-wife in MOTA and also the secretary in Adamas. She was not likeable in both roles. But here she grows on you in Devil's Play.

Wow @abs-oluteM you must have been really craving an Elvis Han drama after Fake It, and this came along lol. I stopped at 7 and haven't felt the urge to go on yet. Elvis Han, still good, though his expressions feel very similar to Fake it, except missing the exceptional dialogue.
3 hours ago, abs-oluteM said:Also , I do agree that this actress lacks a little charisma...and if I were TBH, her chemie with Elvis Han is not as good as the lead actress in Fake It Till You Make It.
Totally agree. Think this is the reason I don't feel the urgency to chase this drama. The spy story is quite average and draggy, so without a good romance, there is only Elvis Han to look at! 🤣

Spoiler@abs-oluteM Thread created. I've watched up to ep6. Thought the pacing is a bit slow, but for Elvis Han, I will watch! It's already miles better than Never Gone lol.

At this time, Zuo Shuangtao is already a spy of the Kuomintang military system and is looking for a way out of her predicament after a failed assassination mission. They are both unaware of each other’s identities as spies and rely on the tacit understanding to cope with the Japanese’s close scrutiny, and eventually pass through as a couple in a shocking manner. Afterwards, Chen Jiaping has to complete his mission, deal with the identity crisis that he has not been able to eliminate, and test Zuo Shuangtao’s true identity at the same time! The struggle becomes more and more brutal. Eventually Jiaping discovers that Shuangtao is an spy of the military junta, “Hong Tao Wu”, while Zuo Shuangtao discovers that Jiaping is a Chinese Communist spy, “Mei Hua Si”. After learning more about the attitudes and contributions of the two parties, Zuo Shuangtao, inspired by her communist beliefs, eventually chooses to fight with Chen Jiaping. They go through trials and tribulations to complete their arduous mission under the leadership of the Party organisation and embark on a new journey together.

Omg Elvis new drama !!! I saw the first episode on YouTube, and it was good. It is set in the 1940s, not exactly my favorite period because of all the propaganda but the leads have good chemistry and the plot exciting. It is a spy drama and both leads are spies. I don't have time to open a thread yet but will do so if the next few episodes continue to be good.
@40somethingahjumma @Chocolate he's still very suave here :D. Full episodes available on this channel.
Yeh!!!! I am excited! The picture looks like Mr & Mrs Smith lol.

Started watching ep.8, less than 10 min in... Sigh, I guess I'm in the mood/mode of nitpicking. Didn't like how everyone is pointing a gun so close to the person they're aiming at. I kept waiting for the time that the person will just shove away the pointed gun and lock the arm behind back....
Haha me too! In fact, the whole of ep8, I was feeling that the show had lost its intrigue, then bam! at the end, something unexpected! Ep9 was slightly better. In any case, we are finding out some things:
Spoiler- Hye Eun was a scheming b*tch since as a child! She stole Myeong Jun's IQ test results so that she could be adopted. But this means MJ is quite smart actually! I wonder why she ever married MJ.
- Ro Hee's father was really killed by the security guy. But the one placing all these pieces together is Hye Eun, think she's after the genius child info, so her ultimate motive is $$$?
I've got to say, aren't there any wiretaps that do not have a red blinkling light??? 🙄😂
Gosh, it's 12 episodes. Was thinking it should end at ep 10 lol.

You're so excited @mademoiselle 😂
11 hours ago, ktcjdrama said:Wow wee.... He is really good.... I agree with @Chocolate that it's hotter than King The Land (we're talking about the sprinkler kiss, right? coz I'm still stuck in Thailand, lol). I wish it wasn't that dark though
Yes haha, they conveniently banged up against the light switch, and then darkness...
Yes, the scene next to the BBQ - I thought the kissing was too long in that scene, if it doesn't progress, get's boring after awhile.
Actually, I think how the actors kiss in these scenes are likely how they are in real life as well. Like HB, he likes to hold the lady's face at the side, below the ear at the neck - the kiss with SYJ during the wedding also like that. So @mademoiselle, now you know the intimate secrets of your boy! But these korean actors are so tall, it's quite painful to see them bend so much to reach the girls lol.

@mademoiselle For you, I shall check it out and try to be nice 🤣🤣🤣
Edit: From the gifs in the above post, it does look good! It's open mouth 🤪 Definitely hotter than the King The Land One hahaha.

I was at the edge of my seat when his cover was almost blown at his MIL’s funeral. And then I was in tears when he couldn’t properly pay respects to her - JCW was fab in these scenes. Where I’m conflicted now is that EuiJeong is going to be very much involved in this entire operation- I know it was to help JM regain Ki Cheol’s trust but her reconnecting with KC set off this terrifying chain reaction as he’s definitely going to pursue her again ( JM’s expressions when she told KC she was divorced was so good.) She’s using his affections for her . Yes , KC should not have my sympathies but the feelings he had & has for her are real. I don’t know why I’m feeling bad for a drug lord 😅😅.
By the way it’s not just the MLs here that are very good , Im Semi is doing a great job too.
Yes, I cried too! That scene where Jun Mo was hiding behind the wall and peeping into the memorial hall when his wife was greeting Gi Cheul, then she saw him and her lips quivered. How hard that must have been for 2 people who love each other and the support they needed then from each other.
On 10/7/2023 at 3:54 PM, 40somethingahjumma said:The script for this show is pretty solid so far and potentially quite sophisticated in how it presents the main antagonist. It is interesting to me that Gi-cheul is far from being the the worst of evil in this show. There are people above him who have few scruples. He has his own honour code which he generally abides by. He does value loyalty and friendship. I want Jun-mo to be somewhat conflicted about him because that would certainly make for much more compelling storytelling.
I like that this is not such a typical gangster/brotherhood drama. Usually the police undercover would become so close to the gang, that he would be conflicted about arresting the gang. But here, with the wife thrown in as a love interest for Gi Cheul, I think there is no chance of that - Jun Mo almost hates Gi Cheul, he just wants to quickly solve the case and get back with to his wife. But Gi Cheul, I feel sad for what's going to be coming for him.

Anyone watching The Devil's Play on Netflix? It's not bad although some of the games are so difficult I don't even know what is happening lol.
I like the way Ha Seok Jin is playing the game. He's not bad looking - why does he not have any hits or major roles? 😅
He was introduced on The Devil’s Plan due to his impressive past of scoring in the top 1% during his college entrance exams. While having been an actor for 18 years, he majored in mechanical engineering at Hanyang University.

The thought did cross my mind fleetingly. Hypothetically. But I'm curious as to why you think this. It kind of reminds me of when Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch alternated their roles as Frankenstein and the Creature. I think both would do well in either role but bring a different feel respectively. In the case of Wi Ha-joon he has played a serial killer before so he's no stranger to going over to the dark side. With Ji Chang-wook, perhaps he's the more established actor and the expectation is that he plays the protagonist.
It's not anything deep - just that the big boss is usually older than the undercover, and Ji Chang Wook looks older than Wi Ha Joon 😂 But you're right. Either way would work for this drama. I too think that it's difficult to root for just one of the two.
Surprised that there is no CCTV in Gicheul's room.

Many things happened in these recent episodes. So as we had guess , the security guard was the killer but he only killed the father. If what he said was true , then it was more like manslaughter since he was defending himself. Seems like the mother was murdered by the father. But I think it's quite clear he's not telling the entire truth. He is protecting Hye Eun who has been revealed to be Dr Choi's father's first adopted daughter. Dr Choi himself was adopted too. I wonder now how she fits in in the greater scheme of things.
I have doubts about his story. He may have killed the father, but the reason is not likely for the gold bars. He does not seem the greedy sort. There was mention that he had "returned" to doing installation work for the security company - think he and the ex-wife are working on a plan together. The curious thing is what are their intentions - do they just want to stop the experiments?
Kim Shin Rok is one the best korean actresses I've seen. I really like watching her. This is my favourite scene. 2 smart people going at each other. Wish it was longer.
Agree that Park Sung Hoon is one of the better parts of this drama. It's refreshing to watch a policeman with a clear head and good instincts, and not run after wrong clues/people. I was quite surprised as I didn't think he could ever be a good guy after first watching him in The Glory lol.

I have a question - how does Junmo decide to go undercover without discussing with his wife first? It’s not like you can say you are on course for a week and then come back as if nothing happened. And for goodness sake, don’t meet in public 🙄 There are so many ways this job could burst - I was on tenterhooks when Gicheul visited the mother in the hospital - she could just pull out a photo of her daughter and husband!
That said, the drama is definitely gritty and there are some parts my concentration wavers a bit (maybe 3 episodes in one go is too much lol) but watchable on the overall.
And although both JCW and WHJ are doing a good job with the characters, I can’t help but feel that the roles should have been reversed.

Yes, she played the mute PA in Adamas. I didn't know it was her, just found her familar until I googled. Not super smart, but she is quite observant and perserveres. She is also aggressive, so not very likeable in the first few episodes of Devil's Play too - I think her association with Ha Seok Jin helped the audience like her more. In real life, apparently she has 10 patents for some sheet masks. She also said after 10 years in the industry, it is only now that she feels like a celebrity.
Hahaha, you forget, I suffered through 40 episodes of Never Gone! That was worse than the spy one, so I am all tapped out. In addition, if I need to get Elvis Han fix, I just re-watch Fake It lol. But this also shows I am not superficial - there's only so much I will do for a pretty face - needs to have some substance supporting it!
But you're both right, I'm searching Ha Seok Jin now 😉😊
I'm in a reality show phase now. Maybe because work is very busy, I don't have energy to immerse in a drama. Reality is light enough. I even watched Physical 100 😂
