Bangtan Sonyeondan  will release an autobiography in July, the New York Times reported on Thursday, citing American publisher Flatiron Books.

The publishing company confirmed the news by sharing the article on its official social media account.

The book, titled “Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record of Bangtan Sonyeondan,” is penned by journalist Kang Myeong Seok and the seven members of the K-pop jugganaut, with the English translation by Anton Hur, in collaboration with Clare Richards and Slin Jung. The Korean edition will be published by label Big Hit Music.

It will hit stores on July 9 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the band's fandom, Army.

South Korea's state-run minting agency said Tuesday the commemorative medal for the 10th anniversary of K-pop sensation Bangtan Sonyeondan debut has racked up its all-time highest sales ever.

Korea Minting and Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corp., or Komsco, on Tuesday said the first edition of Bangtan Sonyeondan 10th anniversary medal sold over 10,000 copies last year, racking up around 6 billion won ($4.49 million) in sales.

Komsco said it is the highest sales recorded by any commemorative medal it has produced until now.

The medal was jointly launched by Komsco and the band's label, Big Hit Music, last year in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the band's debut this June.

The minting agency added the 1-ounce (28-gram) gold medal, of which 1,000 were issued worldwide, sold out in just two hours after it went on sale at the Weverse Shop, the official K-pop merchandise shop run by Hybe, the parent company of Big Hit Music.

Komsco said Bangtan Sonyeondan medal stood out not only for its sales record, but also in terms of the stamping technology used. The band's official logo was carved in a fine pattern, with a technology usually used by the banks for coins, which was applied for the first time on a commemorative medal.

The mint mark, which shows where the coin was made and is mostly seen on significant commemorative coins, is also visible on Bangtan Sonyeondan medal, Komsco added.

The state-run agency plans to launch the second edition of Bangtan Sonyeondan 10th anniversary medal within this year.

The new medal will come in a different design, with portraits of the seven members carved onto the plate using the most cutting-edge technology, the medal manufacturer said.

"The second edition of the medal will add value to the 10th anniversary of  Bangtan Sonyeondan debut with Komsco's special design and state-of-the-art technology," Bahn Jahng Shick, head of Komsco, said in a statement, and added, "We're devoting our efforts into making a medal that carries value matching the reputation of Bangtan Sonyeondan."

City officials expect the events will help boost Seoul's tourism industry, which has been battered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

 

Bangtan Sonyeondan has been holding its own commemorative events and festival weeks around its debut day, which falls on June 13, every year. Even during the period when large in-person events could not be held due to the pandemic, it had large-scale online meet-and-greet events for worldwide fans to interact with other fans around the world.

 

As this year is a significant year marking its 10th anniversary, similar events are expected to be held even though some members are on their mandatory military duty.

 

"We're going to announce when our plans for the events are decided," a Hybe official said on condition of anonymity.

 

The K-pop septet will release a memoir, titled "Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record of Bangtan Sonyeondan" in honor of its 10th anniversary in Korea and the United States, and a commemorative stamp in the home country.

The weekly music charts for the eighth week since Jimin released his pre-release track 'Set Me Free Pt.2' followed by his album 'Face' a week later, have been published. As expected, the record-breaking solo artist is still raising the bar even higher as he continues registering new records on some of the major music charts in the top music market in the world, the USA. One such chart is the Billboard Artist 100, one of the primary and highly competitive music charts in the US.

After having already made history a few weeks ago as the first Korean soloist to hit #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart, for this newly revealed weekly ranking, Bangtan Sonyeondan Jimin spent his 8th week on the chart, thus extending his record from last week's achievement as the first and only Korean soloist to spend now 8 consecutive weeks on this chart (from 7 last week) makes him the longest-charting Korean soloist in the chart's history, having broken the tie of 7 weeks with his bandmate Bangtan Sonyeondan RM.

According to statistics on music sales in the USA, Jimin remains the highest-selling Korean solo artist in pure album sales for 2023. His album 'Face' is overall the 5th best-selling album in pure sales in the USA this year, among all albums released by all artists in general. Seoul is set to be covered in purple in celebration of K-pop superband Bangtan Sonyeondan 10th anniversary next month. 

 

Local media outlets on Thursday reported that Hybe, the band's agency, is preparing events in collaboration with the Seoul city government ahead of the septet's 10th anniversary on June, 13.

 

 

 

 

According to reports, landmark spots around the capital will be decorated as "Army Road," taking its name from the band's official fan community, Army, where fans can celebrate the anniversary on-site.

 

Bangtan Sonyeondan has annually celebrated its big day with a string of events held over the days leading up to the anniversary under the title, "Bangtan Sonyeondan Festa."

 

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the events were moved online, held in the form of virtual concerts, fan meetings and video content for fans globally.

 

The upcoming citywide festival is expected to take place in a similar form as group of "The City" last year project which took place in Las Vegas on March and in Busan on October.

 

In celebration of Bangtan Sonyeondan  concerts in different areas, Hybe had teamed up with respective regional governments to turn each city into an expansive and immersive playground for visitors attending their gigs.

 

Hybe told The Korea Herald that it is still in talks with Seoul city about the event, adding, "We will make an announcement when the plan is finalized."

During last year's "Bangtan Sonyeondan Festa," the bandmates posted a YouTube video of themselves having a dinner party together and announced their big plan to halt group activities so that the members could focus on their individual careers and lives.

 

This year will mark the first time the group is celebrating its anniversary amid a break, with some of the members Jin and J-Hope currently conscripted in the military.

 

Hybe had announced earlier that Bangtan Sonyeondan is releasing an autobiography spanning the group's decade-long story in celebration of this year's anniversary. Titled "Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of Bangtan Sonyeondan," the book is written by professional music advisor Kang Myung Seok and will come out on July, 9.
