Are you still watching this @JenL?

Sorry my replies are so all over the place (much like the rest of my life!)

I'm still watching, but I had to proritise which dramas were ending first (Tomorrow, My Liberation Notes) due to being so over worked and over socialised recently. So I'm doing the binge and catch up now :letalQQ: I'm also not feeling the chemistry, but only on episode 3 so it might still be early...but mainly I'm still finding the female lead's acting unconvincing so some reason. Did you guys find that too? Or is it just me?

Episode 3

Hahaha, I cringed at that fake phone call with Yu Min who I assume is second lead with Yuk Jung Hwan...I assume that they'll be a pairing though. The actor who plays Jung Hwan is kind of cute, but he's nothing compared to Chae Jong Hyeop! :wow: HIS ABBBSSSSSSSS. I'm so glad you made gifs of this @Tofu I guess I'll just stare at his abs forever now  Hahaha oh man, Tae Jun's friends dunking his phone into that drink...so cruel...but they were trying to play wingman for him...Ahhhh, my sweet Chae Jong Hyeop, when he told her that he waited for her and then got all smiley I DIED from how adorable he was. I think the more I watch, the more I feel the problem is that there hasn't been any scenes of the past really to show that Tae Young was actually good at playing. And as you've both mentioned there's barely any playing, so I can't see her as a good player....And then TaeJun is also not taking the sport seriously either...so who is playing?   But I agree with TaeJun saying it's hard to be only a 'slightly talented player'...I feel like that applies to everything. It's better to be totally good or totally bad, unfortunately :idk:

Hmmm, I'm not super invested in the actual drama and I'm still not buying the female lead's acting.Like I think she has a nice aesthetic, but I really don't believe her when she's happy or sad...it doesn't feel genuine? But with thaat said, I also feel like I can't stop watching Chae jong Hyeop because I just love it when he's on screen...what's a girl to do? :heiboi:

@JenL Hahaha. I've already dropped this.

Andddd I agree about the FL. The first time I knew about her, it was in A Piece of Your Mind. She's that Ji Soo Jung Hae In can't stop obsessing about. I was already meh with her in there and annoyed that the drama took 6 episodes to talk about her when the chemistry between CSB and JHI was so much more worth focusing on.

Then I watched her in Extracurricular and later Mouse. Both were OK but she still not great or impressive. So now this drama, and yes, I am not feeling anything from her performances. I am not even convince she likes CJH.

Hahaha oh no!  Are you still watching @Tofu? I feel like I totally would drop this if Chae Jong Hyeop was not in it  To be honest, I'm quite bored with the storyline and I'm really meh about the female lead. But now that I'm catching up again, I can't stop fangirling over Chae Jong Hyeop :wow: So I am literally only watching this for Chae Jong Hyeop!

Totally agree with everything you said! Haha  was also very very annoyed with her character in A Piece of Your Mind. I haven't seen her other stuff and was hoping that I just didn't like her character in that drama. But it seems like her acting is just super green so far. Like you, I also don't feel like there's anything believable between her and CJH :HaunterOK:

@JenL I'm slowly watching this. I'm up to episode 10 and will probably skip through episode 11&12. I hear it's a bit angsty because that's when Tae Yang takes Tae Joon for granted...again.

To be honest, at first I didn't mind Tae Yang at first but as I continue watching I realized I really do not like how her character is written. It bothers me and I don't know how to explain it -- she's a very frustrating character. If both of you did not like Park Ju Hyun's character in A Piece of Your Mind, you won't like her as Tae Yang either. There are a lot of resemblances.  :jiminbtssigh:

Whatttt...noooo....she doesn't have any right to take Tae Joon for granted when he's the only one watching out for her.

Episode 4-6

WAIT. They just kissed in Episode 5 and there's noooo chemistry between them :shocked2: There's no build up of romantic tension! I'm at a loss as to how anyone could be thinking of them as a couple. It feels like they're just friends and she never even really noticed him, let alone had any feelings for him. I can see Tae Joon's feelings...but damn, I cannot see how Tae Young has any feelings because she's never showed him any interest. I felt like my poor Tae Joon was suffering from a one sided crush...and all of a sudden she was like, yeah I liked you too??? :lettalKWA: Episode 5 is really early for a kiss...it's a shame because it seems wasted on these 2 :idk:

Chae Jong Hyeop looks so cute even as a rejected puppy :letalQQ: As for Park Ju Hyun, I feel like we keep learning things about how hard her life was and I'm not feeling any more sorry for her. I know I should be, but even at episode 6, I'm having a hard time feeling her emotions in the acting even though I know how hard the character's life situations would be. I also think the drama isn't good with building up to things before dropping a bombshell...so I feel like things come out of nowhere :BulbaConfused:

Hahaha when Tae Joon and Jung Hyuk try to convince the coach to take Tae Young back, I laughed at CJH's "Love You!" cute attack...whereas the other guy was just his usual too-cool-for-you demeanor. I totally understand why the coach change his mind though...hard to resist 2 good looking guys begging you

😆😆😆 that was exactly my thoughts when they kissed! I was like, "Huhhhh?" But to be honest, it's not about being early in kisses, coz I remember Chun Song Yi kissed Do Min Joon in episode 4 in My Love From the Star, they weren't dating yet, and she was drunk or drugged, but the outcome was still heart fluttering. Theirs was just so sudden & random.

Hahaha true, it's not about how early it happens....I think I mentioned that it happened early because sometimes in other dramas when the chemistry is good, I want them to kiss earlier but they wait till like episode 8 or 12 or something. But in this drama they made it happen in episode 5 and I really wasn't feeling them as a couple, so it feels like a waste. In fact, I'm up to episode 12 now (up to date) and I STILL don't feel like they make sense as a couple. I totally don't feel the chemistry when she says she wants to spend the niight with him...it's so lacklustre :lettalKWA:. Aside from the missing chemistry, I'm pretty annoyed at almost all the characters in this drama...but I'm still watching because of Chae Jong Hyeop...man, the power of a pretty Oppa, huh?

@Tofu I watched Episodes 11 and 12 and I think it's best if you skip. Ughhh, it's a round of angst because of the sister and all the dramas around her. On the one hand, I'm always fascinated by dramas with characters who make unforgivable mistakes (Tae Young)....but on the other hand, this drama has some of the most annoying characters I've seen for awhile! Tae Young and Jun Young both annoy me to no ends...but also, I feel like there's no real team spirit and the coaches are neither inspirational nor do they seem to understand the athletes either. I'm also not buying into their acting.(I can't believe I'm saying this, but they were both better side characters in Hometown Cha Cha Cha...they seem to be flailing here). The story is also so melodramatic and there's not a lot of sports for a sports drama :nervous:....but I'm still here with my popcorn for Tae Joon/ Chae Jong Hyeop...I'm hoping he has a better pairing for his next drama. If it wasn't for Chae Jong Hyeop ( and to a lesser degree, the guy who plays Jung Hwan who I also think is cute and more convincing in his acting) I'd not be watching...but Chae Jong Hyeop continues to reel me in week after week

Totally understand why you think Tae Young is annoying. I think it's because she's very stubborn, but in a way that doesn't help herself or any of the situations...it also doesn't add anything except drama. She apologises in a way that makes a big public scene when she's told not to by the person who she hurt (not that Tae Joon's sister Jun Young is a saint, but still, that sort of behaviour seems wrong). She'll not want to quit, but then tell people to fire her. She'll work hard, but then agree to take a bad deal...and sometimes there's not a good choice and her life is met with bad luck, but the people who care about her will try to help her or cheer her up...but she'll continue to be stubborn. On top of that with the angst in the show itself and the very green acting, she is frustrating to watch for sure! :KittyMallet:

Episodes 7-16

I finally finished this! So I don't mind the last episode because it did tie up all the storylines ok and the tone was a lot nicer...BUT there was a looooong period of angst beforehand and a lot of annoying characters for most of the series. I thought the sister had way more character development than the other characters, which is surprising because when she first came out she was soooo dislikeable, though I felt bad for her situation because it really was Tae Yang's fault that she lost everything. The family dynamics with Tae Jun's mum, sister and himself were the strongest part to this drama honestly. But it was a happy ending all around. It took some time for the team to have some team spirit, but eventually they pulled together. The main couple clarified their feelings and all the side couples were cute.:MewHi:

Overall, I wish this series had been better because I like Chae Jong Hyeop so much...but I can't lie, I really didn't feel any chemistry between the leads. There was no romantic tension or build up to the romance, and the passion was lukewarm at best. It felt like they were saying the lines and going through the motions, rather than portraying these feelings. Chae Jong Hyeop had the loved up expressions down pat, but can't say the same for Park Ju Hyun....it just felt like there wasn't a weight to her words and emotions. And for this reason, I found it hard to get into her character. The other thing is that her character was written with this annoying stubborness to make bad choices then grovel that I felt it difficult to back her completely. :idk:

I actually thought the second couple had a much more belivable chemistry than the first couple  And Kim Moo Joon played a pretty good jerk-turned-soft in Yook Jung Hwan. I prefered watching scenes with him and Chae Jong Hyeop more than the main couple!

I also wish the sports had been better shot for screen and better integrated in the storyline. I felt like this story was about a fairly mediocre badminton team that wasn't that ambitious either? I mean, not every story has to show the althetes becoming Olympians and best friends, but it would have been nice if it had showed their progression in team bonding more clearly (rather than going from hating to suddenly liking for no reason) and showed them improving in the episodes...like the games were often a bad edit of random shots, with no build up of the scores to show which team was winning/losing.

All in all, I didn't hate this drama, since I love Chae Jong Hyeop, and I watched it all (so it can't have been terrible- terrible). But I guess I was expecting a lot more and was disappointed because this drama did not deliver. Oh well, at least that's another one off the list. :idk:

@JenL Is it still very romance centric? Did they or the team achieve anything yet as a badminton team? Did Tae Joon display his potential at all?

It was still romantic-centric....but then it went into angst, breakup land. Nothing was really achieved as a badminton team at the end. It's like the Park Park couple were shown to have potential (newspapers writing about their skills etc etc) and were on their way to  stardom seeing as the show ends with them playing doubles against the second lead couple who are very strong players...but as a team, it seems like they were mediocre at best. One of the team players replaced the coach as the coach left to be a national coach. But the team captain didn't get his contract renewed and he dropped out willingly to run he's dad's spoon business  I mean, I will give his drama points for its realism since I think many athletes do not get to Olympics level, so this seemed realistic. But as a sports drama, very little good sports was shown, so it felt a little pointless. Even as mediocre as they were, they could have shown their games and sportmanship better (but the show did not do this. Sigh) :nervous:

I know, right?! I also felt the sister had the most character development out of everyone. At first she was unlikable but I completely understand where she's coming from too. While everyone had the opportunity to move on from the incident, but she never had that. She continued to live in that moment while struggling to accept that she's no longer a star athlete. I do believe it was partly Taeyang's fault too. I understand Junyoung made the decision to go skateboarding but she was pressured to hide the incident because of Taeyang. Had Junyoung been truthful about what happened, the outcome would have been very different.

Like you, @JenL, I finished and that's all that counts. Haha! Chae Jong Hyeop was the best thing about this drama. He played his character so well and was the only reason I continued watching. I love his character, Taejun. He is probably my favorite male character in the first half of the year.

From episode 11 to the end, I skipped majority of Taejun's and Taeyang's scenes. I didn't feel that much chemistry between them (more like her to him) and I didn't really like Taeyang -- there's just something about this character that was not relatable and I had a hard time connecting with her. I watched a lot of the second couple because they were quite cute once Jung Hwan moved on from his first love. I do think that Yumin is too good for him because everything he does, he still compared her to Junyoung. He clearly loves her, but he has a strange way of showing it (e.g., he went to Europe and didn't really stay in touch with her.....?)

Chae Jong Hyeop confirmed his next drama, so don't forget to watch it once it comes out! It seems like it'll be a fun one!
