Making Amour: Hyun Bin

Hyun Bin behind the cameras and the time he has spent to get ready

Am I doing a good job?

Is this the best that I can do?

The uncertainty that comes from not knowing if I'm doing well

or if I'm doing the right thing.

That's how I feel.

What's scarier than other people's judgement

or comparisons is this...

Not being able to trust myself.

Part 1 Action Training

'How to Fight Against Habits' shared by Hyun Bin

Spoiler

There are times

when I subconsciously do a performance that's familiar to my body.

The habit of

repetition from being complacent with what's familiar to me...

Whenever I find myself with a habit like that

I choose to face it head on.

Because I know there is no short cut.

In order to stand in front of the cameras without regret

I push myself to the limit.

It's because if I'm not fully prepared

the anxiety takes over all my senses.

Part 2 Physical Training

'The Reason Why I Workout' shared by Hyun Bin

'If you want to achieve something, build up your physical strength first.'

I like that saying.

Spoiler

To me, working out isn't

just about making a body that looks good.

It's more about

recharging the energy.

I focus

all my nerves on the movement and senses of my body

and get myself immersed in it.

Once I pour out everything I got

I do feel ecstasy and a sense of accomplishment,

but at the same time,

I feel that sense of lacking

that can't be filled perfectly by anything.

Part 3 Mind Training

'How to Strengthen Mentality' shared by Hyun Bin

In the end, it's all about the mentality.

Spoiler

Fear and anxiety

never leave me.

I train my mind

to overcome those thoughts.

There is no special way to do it.

I just

take the time to focus on myself.

I close my eyes, control my breathiing

and imagine the most positive scenario

that I could think of.

By taking the time to relax,

I look into myself

and make my mind harder.

The strong ming plays its role the best

in the moment of crisis,

when I need it most.

To me

there is an opponent that I can never beat.

It's

myself.

My rival has always been

not anyone else,

but my inadequacy.

The competition against myself

is the toughest battle in the world.

I need a strong mind

in order to stay spirited in this endless battle.

A strong mind

isn't made overnight.

Something special happens

inside me

while I'm training.

How many times

do things go the way I want it to

in life?

First of all, once I begin,

I must never doubt the potential inside me.

When I cannot predict the outcome

I must believe that

everything will go well.

If I trust my potential

and train my body and mind,

I'm sure

I'm already ready.

It is common for celebrities to explore other areas of interest, building on new-found skills and making use of time between tours or filming. While some get hooked on a new career, such as idols who get into acting or investing in real estate, others decide to found their own start-ups.

Actors Lee Jong-suk and Yoo Ah-in both opened restaurants and cafes, but others opt to stay in the entertainment industry and pave a new path overseeing younger artists.

Get to know some of the Korean celebrities who started their own entertainment agencies, and which artists call those agencies home.

Crash Landing on You star Hyun Bin (one half of the famous RiRi couple) decided to go independent along with actress friend Shin Min-ah after their former agency merged with SM Entertainment. They debuted O& Entertainment, which handled most of Hyun Bin’s endorsement deals and acting gigs after he was discharged from the military.

When his contract with O& Entertainment expired, he set up Vast Entertainment in 2016 with his mentor CEO Kang Kun-taek, who handles most the agency work as well as scouting for potential trainees. In 2019, Vast became a wholly owned subsidiary of Kakao M. The company is home to actresses such as My Way’s Lee Yeon-hee and Memorist’s Kin Ji-in.
