Dr. Romantic 3 낭만닥터 김사부 3 [2023]

Recommended Posts

I have caught up to eps 13 and will watch 14 later. Have to say I like this final arc with KDJ in the picture. His presence and difference in approach from Kim Sabu is something that I think the drama has always wanted to address which is about the importance of following standard operating procedures. While I love KimSabu's "romanticism" & breaking of "rules" where necessary to save someone's life, those who are part of the Trauma Centre do need to adhere to certain guidelines in order for the Centre to do what it was intended for.

I don't think what EJ did was wrong - she is a doctor and her heart is in the right place. I can completely understand why she went against DJ's instructions.  In fact , viewers instead of fighting over who is wrong or right , should see that all the docs here are doing their best to save lives. If IRL , every doc we meet is like that the world will be a better place. But for both the Trauma Centre and the Doldam ER to co-exist, and create synergy, there has to be a proper flow in who calls the shot. If every doc does whatever he pleases, it will just create more chaos. I have to agree with KDJ's call in this matter.

Also to backtrack to eps 12, I was somewhat surprised how quickly CJM resigned. While I have always thought that he was a bad fit for this place ( not because of his lack of skills) , I didn't like the way Dir Park got him to resign. It was a very underhanded way of doing things. The assemblywoman sadly is like many politicians we know. At the end of the day, it is never about what's best for the residents but it is always for personal gain or revenge. Sad.

Episode 15

It's the second last episode of S3 but it didn't feel like it is intending to "end" the show. It felt like not only it's trying to raise the stake, insinuating Kim Sabu might be in dire danger, the "last" of Doldam hospital and the unnecessary breakup arc between Eun Tak and Ah Reum. Is it setting the show up for S4 or SBS is planning to give us an extra episode of Special like S1...?

Whatever it is, I hope it is wrap up well in the finale tonight!

I don't get why the writer keeps dragging out Eun Tak's bit. Kim Min Jae barely have any lines and all those silent exchange he and Ah Reum have are getting tiresome.

The combined operation between all the main casts were supposed to be exciting, but I find it lacklustre. There weren't enough screen time given for each character in that operation.

Yang Ho Jun never fails to awe me, in the worse way possible. Not only he didn't return to the trauma centre, he didn't bother to help out at Doldam ER. I get if he wants to continue to strike against Dong Joo, but it really shows a lack of good conduct as a doctor and employee for not lending a hand in the ER when a disaster as big as this hit. Useless piece of sh*t and waste of screen time. LOL

The way the drama showed it, it seems like Woo Jin is the most loved maknae in the Doldam family where everyone has a soft spot with and favours. LOL. Nurse Oh, Dong Joo, Do Il and the other female anaesthetist all had a moment where they look at him in a fond way . Dr. Bae and Kim Sabu forbid Woo Jin from going into the Op room and yet he's ignored it and even perform an operation himself. Is that, realistically speaking, not breaking any rules? :idk:

@mademoiselle On the contrary, I liked the combined operation scene. There were 3 generations of KimSabu's "children" there including EunTak and Dr Lee, making me emotional. In fact I was a little teary, seeing how affected Kim Sabu was thinking this would be the final surgery they will carry out as Team Doldam. I am sure there will be rain tonight, and the fire will not raze the new center.

Overall, I thought that was an exciting penultimate episode. Unlike some viewers out there who don't seem to like this season, I have enjoyed it and I thought it carried with it some essence from S2. The only thing I don't think was necessary was the way they dragged out ET and AR's issue. This seemed inconsistent with ET's personality. But it did provide some small comic relief with our newbie docs trying their best to help him.

I don't only think that KDJ has chemie with WJ. I thought he also had some fire there with EJ. I kind of like their bickering :D

I personally don't mind this sort of conflict because you can see that everyone has different takes on how things should be done. When you deal with human life, sometimes principles or methods need compromise. Ultimately, all of them wants to save patients , and give them the best possible care.

I have to say this season, I really pity Dr Jung....He is so overworked and always has to deal with so many emotional situations. They really need to bring in more ER physicians besides him and Areum.

Will there be a S4? Will Han Sukkyu is more than open for this season to continue.

@abs-oluteM Yeah, I kinda think Doldam will not be burnt to ashes. If it does, maybe just suffer a little bit of burn. I am banking on a happy ending where Doldam deul climb over another obstacles. They always do anyway.

For me, Kim Sabu's children is the first two generations. Dong Hwa was coached by Woo Jin and Ung by Eun Jae, so they are more like his grandchildren so to speak. :laugh:I'm sorry for being pedantic. Hahaha.

Yeah, Dr. Jung was always played out to be overworked. They need another ER doctor (cue: Yoon Seo Jung, where the heck are you?)

Sorry gals, have been really busy the past week so could not post after last week's episodes.

I've finished rewatch of S1 and S2 before last week. So now I have a better recollection of the characters. But still did not manage to get the fact that Mr Jang and Nurse Oh were married! Of the 3 seasons, I think S1 is the best, even though I didn't like KDJ much then. Maybe because there is a newness - I find the best parts are when Kim Sabu is doing the stitching, and the new doctors are always so in awe of his technique and speed.

From ep15, it does not seem there will be any more seasons for this drama. It looks like everything has come full circle. The proteges from S1 and S2 are back and there is a joint surgery (reminds me of a multiple hands massage where there's someone at every part of the body haha). And Kim Sabu now has to let Hyunju go. Of course, Doldam and the trauma centre will not fall - either the firemen will stop the fire or the wind will change direction lol! (Just read abs's post - I never thought of rain haha. That would be most effective!)

I could see KDJ's point in ep13 and 14. But in ep15, it is clear he still has much to learn about being a leader. Instead SWJ stepped up and overshadowed KDJ. If not for his relative inexperience, he would make a better head than KDJ. But it was good to see KDJ take the criticisms in his stride and be open minded about it.

Cha Eun Jae was super irritating in S2 (I ffwd so much during the rewatch), better in S3, and reverted to type in these 3 episodes. Though of course we can understand what she did, but she's like a little Ms know-it-all. Except that she does not have the foresight and magnanimity of WJ and KDJ. So her attitude sucks.

Dr Yang, I can't believe was sitting in his room while everyone was so busy in the ER and TC!

Dr Ung, I don't understand. Didn't he have contact lens that solve his color blind issue? Should he not wear it all the time?

@abs-oluteM Both are from episode 14. I'm not sure what else happen (or not happen) with Ah Reum, but I think she's fed up because Eun Tak didn't speak to her after she cracked the sh*t. He tried, after listening to Dong Hwa's suggestion, bought a bouquet but left it in his locker for days. Jang Dong Hwa bought a new bouquet to help him and just as he was gonna do it, Ah Reum asked to break up.

So unnecessary! Why make Eun Tak's character like that?

Frankly, this romance is totally uninteresting to me from the start, sorry haha. But one thing to learn as a woman. DON'T ever say you want to break up when you don't really want to. It doesn't work! It's like, if you fight with your husband, don't take your pillow and go sleep in another room. Because, if he doesn't ask you to come back, you're stuck. Eventually you have to lower your pride and go back yourself. I know, because it happened to my mother 😂.

I agree. I find what is lacking this season is that there is no new KDJ or SWJ.

Haha, but YSJ is double board certified - so she's is not just ER. Areum is the other ER doctor right? She doesn't seem as overworked as Dr Jung.

But Kim Sabu is quadruple board certified - a neurosurgeon as well! What can't he operate?

Thanks for pointing this out which I forgot. This was something that I was wondering last week and confirmed this week. I was wondering whether Dong Joo came back being all equipped to lead or he's written to be having still needing to learn (more from Kim Sabu).

Probably the main point of all this is that Dong Joo and Woo Jin are to work together and lead the team. They will complement each other, like in Bloodhounds (@Chocolate you need to watch this drama!)

I was reading online when it was revealed about Ung's condition. The contact lens still has limitations. There are still some profession in the medical field colour blind people cannot do.

Ah Reum's character since S2 have been like a side, side, sideeee character. She's just there more as Eun Tak's love interest rather than a doctor, don't you think?

Yoon Seo Jung is ER and CS, so she can help greatly in the ER. But honestly, if she returns then the CS spot would be her and Eun Jae, not Ung 😆.

Kim Sabu was said to be the only doctor who is qualified in 3 fields - GS, NS and CS. What's your 4th, ER?

Hahaha that's funny (the last part). I think in E15, Eun Tak looks a bit mad (to be honest, it's just me trying to read his expression) after learning Ah Reum says "break up" when she didn't mean it. Some people hate their partners easily say the break up word.

@Chocolate @mademoiselle I think KDJ & WJ have different leadership styles- can’t say which is better . Sometimes in situations where someone needs to be firm or hard ass about things, KDJ would be better. WJ , leads a lot more from the heart . And that is great for team morale because his quieter & gentler approach draws people in. I think for young organisations to grow , you need someone like KDJ overseeing the more administrative parts. WJ will complement him as his deputy.

Yes, I hate it when people say break up so lightly. It's like, don't be so juvenile, don't threaten. You should talk and work it out. So I don't really like AR's role too. How about bringing back that doctor in S1 that Eun Tak liked? 😂

KDJ, I feel, has a little hangup about not being like/compared to Kim Sabu. And I agree. There's no point trying to be like Kim Sabu because it is not possible. Everyone has to find their own style of management. But he is quite extreme - I definitely would not start with a new team by just giving what seems like unreasonable instructions with no clarification, unless there was no time. It makes it so much harder for yourself.

WJ was able to quote all those rules that allow for exceptions. Surely KDJ knows these too.

But leaders are usually loners. So...

I really like what Kim Sabu says - do you want to be a boss or a leader? This stays with me.

@Chocolate A-hahaha, at least the actions are enjoyable xD xP

In Episode 15 Do Il mentioned in passing NS is Kim Sabu original specialisation, so it's NS, GS and CS (listed in Wikipedia too). Seeing how every specialist helps out in the ER at Doldam, I suppose they don't need to be ER certified. Also I think during residency, don't the doctors take turns anyway to practice in each field?

KDJ: Both!

P.S. I find being a (true) leader is hard. I haven't come across a manager that could lead.

When he was telling us about it, he talked about how candles are expensive but now he hopes we don't feel bad burning those candles. It was like a marketing speech on candles. Haha!

I loved reading the conversation here about episode 15 and the rest of the series. As I told mademoiselle, I don't understand why they decided to introduce this type of issue right before it ends. They are either gearing for a fourth season or burning the whole franchise and this will be the last installment. Haha!

I agreed with the comment about no or limited chemistry between YYS and AHS. I don't feel it either, but I'm not sure if part of it is because of the characters they play. :idk:

Season 2 Finale

Don't know about you guys but I find the last two episodes, the surgery scenes were just glossed over when that's supposed to be the most exciting bit.

Did anyone notice when everyone was searching for Kim Sabu, Nurse Oh called Eun Tak she found him. Eun Tak calls Seo Woo Jin, but when it came to Dong Joo, he only got a text from Woo Jin .

Based on Kim Sabu and Nurse Oh's conversation, Kim Sabu is cooking up something else other than the Trauma Centre and when they were searching for him, the camera zoomed into a thick folder named "Rough Rock Project". Last time it was called Oddball project so I assumed this is something new Kim Sabu is working on. How on earth does he even have time to do all this?

I like the bit Nurse Oh said Kim Sabu is the gravity. However, I also wonder what happened after a legendary person like Kim Sabu passes? His legacy may remain, but not everyone will have that gravitational force to pull everyone together.

As for the rain, wouldn't the weather forecast be able to see that coming?

I really wanted to give Eun Tak a kick when he said absolutely nothing after how worried Ah Reum is. I know he needs to keep moving, but at least spew some words before leaving! The make up kiss was good except the whole time I was imagining @Chocolate giving this look 🙄(and FF). 😆😆😆

It was funny how all of Doldam knew Woo Jin and Seo Jin are living together, courtesy of Ah Reum. She, Nurse Eom and Nurse Joo are quite gossipy, LOL. I actually don't know why they are hiding it in the first place. The morning kiss scene was rather cute and sweet, so was the hug and kisses later. I don't know why in S2 I couldn't get into this two. I don't think I was into KDJ and YSJ's relationship either. But in S3, seeing them lovey dovey I was more convinced. :idk: Although I'm sure many of you will disagree. Bahahaha!

I quite like the speech Kim Sabu had with Dong Hwa, coz it was a message from Gen X to Gen MZ. I thought he will leave actually, then it gives an empty spot for an S1 cast to come back in. There are just too many actors, not enough screen time for some of them. Haha. And I cannot believe Yang Ho Jun is not being dismissed. ARGH. It makes no sense to keep him and he's part of the Trauma Team...? I wouldn't think Kang Dong Joo want him in the team!

Glad to see there is still hope for Jung In Su and his wife. That he made the move to call his wife and they try to work things out.

@Chocolate That fried chicken PPL looks good! 🤤. I thought of you because we discussed about Korean's fried chicken before. By the way, I thought from S1, Nurse Oh will either be paired with Kim Sabu or Nam Do Il, but who knows she was married to Sec. Jang. :PikachuFacePalm: Not that we really need loveline for her or Kim Sabu of course, but just saying.

Last but not least, a stand in playing Yoon Seo Jung's return to tease us, and hinting a Season 4. Not surprised. Well, if SBS wants to do another season, I guess I will continue to watch especially if SBS could get both S1 and S2 return for one last season. I will be 101% in. Maybe Oddball project is meant to lead by Kang Dong Joo and the Rough Rock project will be led by Yoon Seo Jung. I don't know where Do In Beom sit in this, but whatever, just bring him back too! Haha. @Tofu will watch if Do In Beom returns, right? Or you'll watch anyway if Seo Hyun Jin reprise the role?

P.S. I forgot to mention in previous post...

The Ministry of Health representative came back and technically saying the Trauma Centre shouldn't receive non-trauma patients and there's a rule such and such. I kind of wish both Woo Jin and Eun Jae were there to hear that.

Wasn't Woo Jin already a part of Trauma team? Someone refresh my memory, please? I remember he initially was on the team, then he didn't want to because of Cha Jin Man. But then there's no GS in Trauma team (Yang Ho Jun doesn't count), so he basically is on the team. Or because he was doing both and now he officially joins only the Trauma team?

@mademoiselle My understanding is that he was picked to be part of the Trauma team, but he refused because of Cha Jin Man. He would go back and forth between the two to help, but he viewed himself as part of Doldam team. The ending shows him officially making the decision to join the Trauma team.

6 hours ago, mademoiselle said:

I really like Yoon Seo Jung, so if she returns, I will watch it for her. When it comes to the S1 doctors, if Yoon Seo Jung or Do In Boem return as a fixed cast in S4, I will watch. If it's only Kang Dong Joo, I don't know if I will. I like him, but not enough to watch an entire season with just him. He needs Yoon Seo Jung to balance him out.

It would be great if we can get both S1 and S2 doctors, but all have become big stars that I don't think this will happen. It also seems like S2 actors stay in contact post-production more than S1 actors. I wonder if that's because S2 actors are closer in age or have known each other previously?

I watched this fanmade video of Eun Tak and Ah Reum and I realized, she's always waiting for him.

I loved Eun Tak's vulnerability at the end when he told her how much he loves her. :wow:
