Synopsis

Takes place against the backdrop of an art museum that belongs to Sung Jin Group, a major conglomerate that holds the reins of the political and financial worlds in South Korea. It is a psychological mystery thriller about the things that disappear when humans become greedy and ambitious for power.

Yoon Jae Hee is the head of the Sung Jin Cultural Foundation and in charge of operations at “Space Jin,” the art museum owned by Sung Jin Group. She is also the second daughter-in-law of the family that controls Sung Jin Group. Believing that poverty is corrosive to love and that a stable income leads to a steady life, she chose to throw away her long-time lover and entered into a marriage of convenience with Jung Joon Hyuk, an illegitimate son of Sung Jin Group. In order to make her husband the nation’s president, she teams up with the future Public Prosecutor General and goes to war against Sung Jin Group.

Jung Joon Hyuk is Yoon Jae Hee’s husband. Although he is a popular anchorman with his own fan club, he hides an inferiority complex over being labeled “the illegitimate son of Sung Jin Group” for his whole life. He laughs at both ambitious people and those who pretend to have no ambition even as he waits for the day when he can seize the reins of power.

JTBC announced that its upcoming drama Duke City has finished its first filming.

Duke City is a psychological mystery thriller set in an art museum owned by the Sungjin Group, a conglomerate that dominates business and political factions in South Korea. Soo Ae (Sweet Stranger and Me), who is returning to K-dramas after five years, plays the role of Yoon Jae-hee, the second daughter-in-law of Sungjin Group and the one who manages the art museum. She believes that love cannot thrive in poverty and chooses to dump her longtime lover in order to marry an heir of Sungjin Group. That heir is Jung Joon-hyuk, played by Kim Kang-woo (Woman of 9.9 Billion). He is an illegitimate child and has an inferiority complex despite being successful at his career as an anchor. She is also an influential figure within the Sungjin Group and tries to thwart Jae-hee’s attempts to uplift her husband. Lee Yi-dam plays Kim Yi-seol, a docent of the art museum. She wishes to rise in status in the art world. Lee Hak-joo plays Han Dong-min, a reporter who believes in truth and justice, who is also a fan of Jung Joon-hyuk. Finally, Lee Choong-joo plays Park Jung-ho, a prosecutor at the Central District Prosecutor’s Office who believes in loyalty.

The first teaser previews the blood, murder, assault, and betrayals that take place in the cutthroat world of Sung Jin Group. Although they appear to be a perfect family on the surface, wine soon turns into blood amid scenes of love affairs, attempted drowning, and physical abuse.

Yoon Jae Hee is particularly a target of violence, as her husband, Jung Joon Huk (Kim Kang Woo), hurls a glass against the wall in front of her. He is a respected national anchor but harbors an inferiority complex over being the illegitimate son in his family. Yoon Jae HEe is also forced to kneel and threatened at gunpoint, and in one chilling scene, an unnamed woman is dragged by her hair on her knees inside a building on fire.
