DouYin Drama Discussion

I just caught this one with Shen Haonan... It's kinda crazy but fun. If you can buy into the face swap, all things are possible. He's quite funny in the first half. The FL is quite good as well.

Wang Cheng Peng's....Different take of "marrying s xiao xa gua". I like this FL, saw her in few dramas but don't know her name

Unfortunately I didn't like this one. FF through a lot of it. It's a repackaging of a few different storylines. I barely made it to the end and was annoyed with that ending. He's the nicest of all the 傻瓜 husbands which made the ending even worse.

at beginning the husband didnt do much distancing however slowly as along the way the husband got more and more mindful of the wife presence he did exactly that......

though the mother is an ass if you ask me lols

i was holding back a little cause i see the girl in bad role too many times and for her to play a good role take some convincing for me hahaha

If you remember close to the start when they were having breakfast, he grabbed the kid and went to the dinner table to where the wife was. There's no doubt that he struggled and wavered along the way -- he didn't take her to Spain after promising her he would -- but I think he always liked her.

It's interesting to me that at the end he criticized his parents' marriage in a backhanded way. He asked his mother, "Are you happy?" Even though theirs was a marriage made between people of equal status, it wasn't exactly a love match. His dad was unfaithful to his mum and had a son with his first love. It's not as if things were working that well for them. So in the end she realised that she should mind her own business and let him make his own mistakes. There's no guarantee that a marriage between people of the same class would be a happy one.

The thing I appreciated most is that it didn't just rehash other mute wife stories. It took an entirely different approach with the discrimination of people with disability in elite social circles. Of course it can be confronting and most likely that's the point. I also like the fact that she never got back her ability to speak like in other stories but was able to use augmented technology.

Totally agree with you. Especially the ending, it's absurd and stupid. I FF thru it for the sake of WCP and very cute kids.

I'm watching a mini drama Part For Ever by Youku. Cute CP, good acting with love and hate relationship with lots of extra baggage that was doomed from the beginning. ML got that boyish charms but at the same time he can turns on his murderous aura when necessary. FL is super cute with adorable height difference that can cause waist pains for the ML....:PsyWhat: Never seen any of the casts before. The styling is simple but elegant, none of those flashy simmering dangling hair pieces. Fight choreography is good maybe because ML is an idol.

Two of my fav MLs got new dramas.....:love:

Here's a new one, I think, with Wang Nan... He's a 傻子 and there are some interesting twists and turns.

If anyone knows where I can find a drama of his as the hot uncle who ends up with his nephew's ex, please link me to the channel. He's got grey sideburns in that one. I've lost a few of Wang Nan's dramas that I "liked" in the past.

I thought this one was quite lovely too... There's development and the ML is very supportive.

I watched this drama because of the actor, the ML,  so handsome....:pandalove:

It's Shen Haonan. He's hugely popular. Good-looking and a great actor. Even when he plays scumbag husbands he can pull off the repentant phase. He's also done some mainstream stuff.

I saw the tittle in the IG comments before I wrote my previous post, and I watched the beginning of the drama on YT but for some reason the actors looked different to me than in this IG clip. So I thought it was a wrong drama. :pandablank:

Ooooh... I happened upon this really old one with Lu Dandong and @OsmanthusTea's favourite 12-year-old actress. They both really look like teenagers. It's must be an early mute wife one. The first season is an editing nightmare (repeat scenes intersperse with BTS gag moments) but it's very addictive and the chemistry is through the roof. Lu Dandong is pretty darn hot in this.

They got married after this drama 😎😎 LDD has a such sensual cum sadistic face 😎😎 He is super convincing as abusive husband 😖😖

I wondered about that. I did wonder if they were married to each other because some of the stuff they got to in S2 was eye-popping for two people so young. Apparently he's only 26.

It felt a bit like a Romeo and Juliet story. At least in essence it did. I just saw Lu Dandong do one where he was some kind of Lord of Hades who has been looking for his wife for 500 years. The ending was terrible although the concept was interesting.

I think most of the popular douyin actors do their best work as scumbag husbands who turn penitent. I suspect it goes some way in explaining their popularity with audiences and actors ie. why they keep doing these sorts of storylines despite complaints about the abuse and the torture porn. Although the versatile ones can pull off comedy pretty well. I admit to liking a bit angst but the torture porn gets a bit ridiculous.

@rocher22

If you like Shen Haonan, there are at least 2 different playlists on YouTube of his stuff.

I like this Beauty and the Beast one but it feels incomplete. I'm not as impressed with the FL but Shen Haonan can generate chemistry with animate and inanimate objects.

I think they got married very young. The girl Yang something is under 25 at the moment.

The first batch of Douyin dramas were like Mexican telenovela mixed with American 80s soap sprinkle with Chinese very own spices...:PsyWhat: Majority were adapted from the online novel by unknown authors with no copyright that catered to people with certain guilty pleasure....:HaunterOK: Those authors were inspired by Chung Yao the fame Taiwanese novelist specialist in angsty romance story. CY has a penchant of writing a romance story with a righteous justified xiao san..:shocked: Heard that it was from her personal experience who was a xiao san during her younger days (not sure if it's a true account).

Douyin dramas are uncensored. They used to have more liberty in the past but I noticed that since those dramas become extremely popular both inside and outside Mainland even some big production houses starting investing in them, the amount of questionable scenes have been reduced significantly. Older one were very steamy, violent even featured  bi MLs with male xiao san...:Ghastlel:

@rocher22 @40somethingahjumma

Shen Hao Nan is a very versatile actor. His chemistry with every single one of his CPs is flawless. He is the best in romance, he can looks totally in love with anything in skirt even in pants.....:PsyWhat:

I finally caught this one. It's a very good pairing. Visually they're a good fit. The ML can certainly be relied upon to pick a good script. There are a few interesting reveals especially towards the end.

______

I like this actor a lot. Used to do bad guy roles and now doing more lead roles. This is a familiar story similar to the one with Wang Hanyang -- a rebirth story featuring jealous possessive husband learning to trust his wife who is doing reckless things. Lots of bedroom action so I'm surprised that there's no pregnancy at the end.
