The Bloom at Ruyi Pavilion 如意芳霏 [2020]

Spoiler recap for eps 34.  (this eps had some good development)

Yes , he is using the same trick as her - pretending to regret the marriage ( actually he is likely going to something to prove the latter's innocence. So he wanted to protect her this way so she is not implicated in the matter). But FR knew it. She was in tears & said are you asking for a divorce.  He said yes. She agreed quickly to his surprise, but she said this needs time to be reported to the King . She says she will go back to her family and just send the letter there. By now both actually understand each other's tendency to be noble idiots. 

 

She went home  but she just gave an excuse to her folks that XJ was going out of town. Said she didn't want to be alone & missed her family. Her parents were worried this goes against customs but she said XJ is fine with it. Later the sisters chat in their garden. FX asked if everything was fine...FR does say that XJ likes to take everything upon himself and bears burdens on his own which frustrates her. As the sisters chat about why people got married & falling in love, FX thought of the time that WBQ almost kissed her

 

Funnily WBQ had come to the back of her garden & was about to climb over the wall to see her.  Lol! XJ came too. They both pretended that they were passing by. Later the men had a talk while walking and XJ asked WBQ to please look after FR and the household. 

 

XJ also took the risk of smuggling his master's family out. He put them in safe place & assured the wife he will prove the General's innocence.  This could very well backfire on XJ and he may be punished if it gets found out. Think this is the big reason he pushed FR away and got her leave and stay with her family.

 

WBQ tails FR for her safety. He lost her when he got distracted with hearing some gossip about the Fu girls. Xiao Qi had taken FR to see Uncle San ( the vendor at the Ghost Market who was also part of the Ruyi organisation) at what looked like an orphanage . There were many young kids there.  FR asked Uncle San about her Master's involvement in the JiChang city destruction. He was appalled she would suspect her Master of such evil. He said it was disappointing that Master Ruyi would have a mentee like her who doubts her own master. She said someone from the organisation ( Xiao Wu  who had spoken to her and XJ at their residence) told the this. The rest were shocked. They than said that Xiao Wu could have been bribed. 

 

Uncle San walked out in anger. FR heard some commotion. WBQ had come & he and Uncle San were fighting . She stopped them on time and told WBQ , these were her friends. She then wondered what WBQ was doing here. WBQ accidentally spilled the beans that he was sent to protect her...she knew straight away that XJ is doing all this driving her away for her protection. But WBQ does not know what XJ is up to. WBQ leaves FR to talk to Uncle San etc. Then she finds out that actually her Master uses all these secrets that they sell to support the orphanage etc. She also finds out that Uncle San and General Zhenbei were very good friends , and Uncle San had come back to solve the Ruyi issue and to help General Zhenbei. FR volunteers to help them as well. 

 

XJ and Prince Huai had been secretly communicating via letters. Huai also believes that General Zhenbei was innocent & assured his brother he will find a way to communicate with the General. He is also closing in on another city nearby that was under siege. XJ hopes Huai's troops can reach on time as he knows if this city gets captured , it will be almost impossible to prove the General's innocence.

King was under a lot of stress. More news of sightings that General Zhenbei is fighting for the enemy. Now 3 cities have been captured and he hears that Prince Huai is being treated for injuries. He summons Ahn to go and arrest General's family . He wants to execute them to send a warning to the General and the army at the borders for the betrayal.

 

Ahn takes the imperial guards to the General's home. But found that the real family were not there. Ahn reports this and hinted to the King that the only one who would dare to smuggle the family's out would be XJ. So the They then go to XJ's place to search ( at the King's orders) but didn't find the family . XJ's aide had hidden the family in safe place out of the city.

 

WBQ bring good news. Prince Huai's troops were able to defeat the enemy. So the General Zhenbei had pretended to work for the enemy. When Huai was at the city gates , he shot an arrow at Huai that had a secret message. He gave Huai the map of the city to help Huai. Huai had pretended to be injured to distract the enemy. So finally everything is cleared up and General Zhenbei was prove innocent.

 

XJ was summoned to see the King.  XJ asked for forgiveness  but the King said that he need not as XJ had done the right thing. The King saw his own shortcomings and blunder of almost killing a loyal General. He praised XJ for his contribution in this matter. The King also allowed the General's family to return home since his name has been cleared.

 

XJ had wanted to go to FR's family house to take her home . But he gets a letter from the General saying that there's a mole that caused them to lose Zhenyang city at the beginning. So XJ had to go investigate. 

Meanwhile FR, Xiao Qi and Uncle San are also doing some investigations of their own. They go undercover in a teahouse & overhear Prince Cheng's servant talking to an envoy from the enemy state. The envoy demanded to talk to Prince Cheng the next day there face to face or he will not collaborate. So FR & gang finds out that Cheng may the mole .

 

Next day the King and Consort Shu going under the disguise of common folks decided to visit a temple and see how the normal folks were living. WBQ accompanied them. The horse they were using to pull the carriage needed a break. So Consort Shu suggested to the King to walk about while the horses get a break.

 

In the teahouse, Prince Cheng ( he had covered his face) with his aide. They were led to a private room upstairs. As the King and Consort Shu was walking about , they decided to stop for tea..they happened to be in front of tea house where Prince Cheng was....

I have finished last ep...and too bad duke an ended up killing himself coz he wanted to die with nong nong after stabbing her. and he himself not knowing that his mom still alive all these years...

And happy for FR and SJ finnaly have their own happiness. even though for me its to rush to end..should have add 2 or 3 eps...

Wow... Episode 31 was fantastic. The sword fight sequences in the Qing Feng stockade were beautifully choreographed and shot. The Frank Miller style angles, the overhead shots... it was fantastic. The entire episode was like a series of panels from a manga or a graphic novel. And my heart went out to him as Xu Jin's pale weary face as blood trickled down his face as he was making his last stand at the break of morning. Of course my heart broke when he staggered around the town going from one inn to the next making inquiries. 

 

What an incredible character Xu Jin really is. He went the whole hog in this. I guess this whole episode was a tribute to him... the soldier, the prince and the husband. He may not have crawled over glass for Fu Rong... but by golly he did much much more than that. His love for her saw him mow down an army of brigands, limp around bleeding from injuries, stab himself and dig out a coffin with his bare hands. Dear me... he's set the bar very high indeed.

 

In contrast is Xu Ping... of course the less said about him the better but I'm sure the differentiation is deliberate. His priorities aren't with Fu Rong as can be seen twice where he runs off at the slightest bit of news regarding Ruyi Pavilion, leaving her to fend for herself or in jeopardy. But it's clear that their trajectories are at odds. He can never be with her because his mind is always elsewhere. It's a great metaphor as seen played out in these two instances.

yes, even I don’t understand what the meaning when they sit alone on the tower and then there is a lightning, and then they in shu fei residences 😅or i miss something?

Up to eps 34 despite the noble idiocy , angst & separation , they weren't always apart for too long. The writer still managed to slip in some sweet scenes here and there. 

 

And even when he pushed her away, she knew his tricks. So what I think the story has done quite well is show that no matter what both FR and XJ's love for each other is strong and it is on this foundation that they have been able to ride out all the storms that have come their way.  

 

I will take a break for the balance 6 episodes . I need to catch up on my kdramas. The last 6 I can tell will have more harrowing moments.

Yes, he was amazing. I was so moved when told Ahn go & take FR with him . Then closed the shutters and fought the bandits all  by himself. Hard to find a male character as perfect as this

This is really remains me of LFY if you read in the novel😅When you read the novel of pgc it look like he never get tired

I will be waiting for ur recaps esp 35, 36, 37 to see if i can stomach those angst esp the death of papa fu. I need to cushion myself even i know by 38 they already regain their trust for each other. It is interesting that at certain milestone say 19 20, 30, 37 maybe fr would do or say something so hurtful that most of us will get angry or pissed over her stubbornness.. N xj hurt is so unbearable to watch (all those scenes of his crash face make me and millions of ladies weep for him) but he never never for once think about giving up on her, o tell himself he had enough or think about maybe it better they just leavw each other alone..

 

Like @40somethingahjumma says ep 31 is a tribute to Xj character, main highlight is his steadfastness as a unwavering husband, soldier, prince. And in the end FR  always redeemed herself. First was her trying to kill herself, 2nd she signed the papers for his good so that he doesn't need to go to investigate for her sake and finally, the scene that traumatised me most, her love for him has gone to be extend of willing and wanting n in fact the element of resolute to be buried with him. Her taking the fan n hairpin still make me have cold shiver n teary. Though i wish that scene can be replaced with other way. Maybe they are giving a tribute for fr love for XJ.

 

But Like i say in my review in page 26, it doesn't make sense she doesnt request tosee his  body, clean him n dress him.. N if the coffin empty, then with her character she will insist that he will come back as he promised. Haizzz.. Sigh

She explained, because both she n xj wore her shield shirt protection, the poison did no go to her heart but on her skin n giving an impression of death. Maybe on the surface she lost her breathing d.. N we hv a modern twist of lightning as electric shock used in modern medicine 😉😉 seen in ER.. 

 

Guess the scriptwriter decide to let xj cry a bit thinking she died. Guess compared the the days n nights of her thinking he has died, its a short moment haha. 

 

@abs-oluteM @stroppyse anywhere we can petition for a epilogue of them together with fx wbq n guange. I really want them to make true the promise of son elevate the mum status haha... Like in sleepless princess. Even 10 min of them together travelling the world (fly that kite or do the Eagle hunt) leaving their son with consort shu or fx wbq haha... Showing fx n wbq married. Tbh i need that kind of ending to close up n move on. They cut 8 episode worth.. Please paste something for us.

Eps 35 Spoiler recaps ( lovely episode focusing on WBQ and FX's romance )

 

So the King and Consort Shu stopped by the teahouse where Prince Cheng was meeting the envoy from the enemy state. This was actually set up with the help of Consort Shu & WBQ ( FR had told Shu and WBQ about it) . So the teahouse staff lead the King and Shu to a room next to where Cheng was. They had purposely cut a hole to make it not soundproof. When the envoy arrived , he greeted Cheng and it could be heard by the King. So the King got up and peered through the hole. So he discovers that this son of his was the one who gave the defence layout map to enemy. He got WBQ to arrest Cheng. 

 

FR was at the orphanage - Uncle Yan and Xiao Qi return with good news of Cheng's arrest. They thank FR and praised her intelligence for setting this up. The men asked her to now help them find her master's token. Meanwhile XJ gets news from the men about how FR was the one who helped to

set up Cheng's arrest. Mr Ge asked if it is time to bring her home. XJ says he will know what to do. He is still worried about her being involved in this Ruyi thing as he knows it will soon be exposed. 

 

WBQ was walking along the street thinking if he should see FX. He bumped into his former bookkeeper at Feng Lai Yi. He asked the man for his stamp back. The man proceeds to tell him that FX had come look for him earlier and took the stamp back. Long story short she had managed to persuade him to surrender all the relevant documents etc ( and she promised not to go after him about the deposit he had taken) . She helped re-register the business , and according to the man , WBQ will likely get a notice about it soon . So FLY will get to reopen soon. 
 

WBQ was so touched ( he was gonna cry); he ran to look for FX. But near her street ,there was a wedding procession & he overheard that Ms Fu was marrying some man.  This was so funny and sweet all at the same time. He barged into the wedding venue thinking it was FX. He told her not to marry the man. He did the most lovely confession about how he realised now that he has fallen for her and that even though he knows that he had been childish and reckless, he will prove it to her that she can trust him to take care of her for life. Then he knelt and said "FuXuan , don't marry him" .......then it was clear this was a mix-up. But the best part is that FX and her parents were at the wedding as guests. FX was so overwhelmed by his confession that she went up to him grabbed his hand and ran out with him .

 

They ran out to an empty street. She also told him that she had actually turned down a previous suitor who had asked for her hand in marriage because she told the man she had fallen for someone. WBQ teased her and asked her who could it be. She responded with this:

She felt bad that she had not realised her own feelings as she was generally reserved etc. WBQ did not allow her to put herself down. Then he asked her if she agreed to him coming to her home to propose marriage in a few days. She agreed and this sweet kiss followed ( I have to say they kiss better than the main couple :D )

So anyhow , XJ's men comes to tell him that they cannot find any of the documents in Prince Cheng's residence. They need this as proof. XJ sends WBQ to and the imperial guards to find Cheng's aide who had escaped. During the raid, WBQ noticed a mask on the bed. He remembered in the early episodes when FX was being kidnapped ( they had thought she was FR) , they saw a masked man escape.

WBQ goes to Fu Residence. He had delivered lots of presents as part of the proposal. He also came to warn FX about the masked man who had kidnapped her the last time. Then the sweetest part : he gave her a special gift - the keys and documents to run Feng Lai Yi. He says he is not good at business management but he knows FX is. And he says she can run it as she pleases. She says she will accept it after marriage , she took a key from the box as acceptance . 

 

Going back to FR. She was at Ruyi shop . Her maid had brought back the pheonix crown she had used for her wedding. FR noticed something strange on one of the stones. She quietly took it out and it was hidden a paper with drawing of lotus flower. Then she told her maids that she needed to go somewhere. The maid , Yuan ( who is helping Ahn) secretly tailed her. 

 

FR brought the paper to Uncle Yan . They tried to decipher what the secret message could mean. Uncle Yan remembered that at one time , Master Ruyi would go to this Lotus Village to hide or do something. So they decided to go there .

 

FR & gang go to Lotus Village. At first the man that they met there pretended not to know who is Ruyi. FR showed him the paper but he kept mum. Later in the night Uncle Yan & Xiao Qi spied on him , saw that he was indeed lighting incense for Ruyi.  The man saw their shadows. A fight ensued, the man was almost going to attack FR too , but he stopped when he saw her bracelet.

 

So finally the man took out a box containing something that Ruyi had left for FR. FR's bracelet was the secret key to open this box. Inside was a letter from her master and the token. The Master had mentioned in the letter why she did what she did because she wanted to provide for these unwanted children . But unfortunately , she cannot control how things work out sometimes ( feels like Ruyi had a Robin Hood mentality if you ask me). The man also told FR that Ruyi had always meant well and even asked him to heal Lord Dong's son ( XJ's uncle) . Ruyi in her letter doesn't want to endanger FR but said it is entirely up to FR if she wishes to continue her work . FR made up her mind to continue her Master's legacy .

 

As they were leaving, someone tried to grab the token in FR's hands. FR had anticipated this and had put a dummy token in the envelope she was holding. The men fought this person. They managed to remove the mask and it turned out to be Yuan. FR was shocked...Yuan managed to escape throwing a small bomb. She went back to Ahn but she was injured. 

 

FX was over at Feng Lai Yi to see what was to be done for the reopening. She also wanted to surprise WBQ with a bowl of homecooked noodles since it was his birthday. She told the maid to keep WBQ from coming in first while she set up. Then as she was just touching up her lip colour , she saw in the mirror a man behind her.  She kept her wits and pretended by calling WBQ to come out of hiding. When the man was about to pounce on her , she threw the hot bold of noodles at the man's face and ran out. Fortunately WBQ had arrived.  She told him about the man - he was Prince Cheng's aide that had gone on hiding. Finally WBQ and his servant caught the guy.  Later when alone, there was some sweet scene between WBQ and FX

Meanwhile the palace had the usual assembly. The King was happy with the latest developments of how they are able to track and trace all the corruption going on . He praised XJ and WBQ. Then snake Ahn told the King about this secret organisation that has been providing intel to Cheng , Marquis Xindu etc. The King was angry . He assigned XJ to investigate . XJ was really put in a spot now as he obviously know what is going on (this is actually why he didn't want FR involved)

So far has not been so bad. I am glad that WBQ & FX's romance is lovely to watch. I watch that whole confession scene twice. I do think the eps 36 & 37 would be the toughest especially now when we know that XJ would be put in a hard place because he needs to investigate Ruyi.

Have anyone watched 2017 General and I? I suddenly recalled how i felt when finish watching G&i. Almost the same as ruyi. Esp the male leads. Wallace chung as chu bei jie is same likw zzh xj. Totally in love with their wives. I recall i thought cbj was the best hubby of the year haha... 2017. But i watch it earlier this year. Now XJ. 

 

Few points to note for ppl who need to get out of ruyi hangover haha.. Can try this. 

Handsome male leads. Cool, solemn but a total tease n adorable with the wives. Cbj was a superb military strategist, upright n caring. XJ is a army second man but strategist as well. Both highly skilled in martial art. Both wangye. Cbj is emperor brother. 

Both has fight through throngs of enemies to find their wives. 

Both will dropped everything to be with their ladies in time of trouble. Cbj mobilised army n go to war for his wife.

Both got jailbreaks too haha... N emperors who think those ladies are bad for them. N uses tricks to get them to leave their men. 

Bith will give up reputation n career n position for their ladies. 

Both are consistently hurt by their ladies emotionally n physically but never waver in their love.. 

Other ladies cannot get close to them. Zero opportunity. 

Death of partner scene. In cbj case, he was given an info of his wife death n he accompanied the grave for weeks. Terrible terrible heartbreaking scene which i don like. Then she hid myself from him thinking he is better off wo her. 3 years he missed her, drew her, hv a place kept filled her memory. Anything that remind him of her he would dashed to check if it is her.. Golly it was one of the most painful drama to watch. And when he was to play a game of blind chess, he recognised the moves of his wife n she recognised his moves too, ran out shouting for her. Then remember that she is no longer alive. I hate drama playing fake death trope. 

They even had the same poems in the drama stating their everlasting love for their wives. 

Married mid way in drama. 

Obssessed 2nd male lead as childhood friend of FL who create throngs of problems. 

Weak looking ladies.. Bai ping ting was clever clever war strategist.. Very resourceful like FR. 

Great chemistry between the leads but ppl complain about angelababy. But i really love the cp feel of them. Their look are so good n their kisses hotter than fr xj. 

Good ending. 

 

Anyway, not trying ti sell general n i on a ruyi page. But if u are deep in fr xj mode. This maybe a good transition. Funny, after i watch general n i, I had a hangover n saw recommendations for yunxi. Thats how i fall in love with lfy-yunxi. Now after ruyi, i miss g&i again. Xj characters def resemble cbj. 

 

Only thing lousy is the cgi. Some are really badly done. N its a long series.

Wow... Episode 31 was fantastic. The sword fight sequences in the Qing Han stockade were beautifully choreographed and shot. The Frank Miller style angles, the overhead shots... it was fantastic. The entire episode was like a series of panels from a manga or a graphic novel. And my heart went out to him as Xu Jin's pale weary face as blood trickled down his face as he was making his last stand at the break of morning. Of course my heart broke when he staggered around the town going from one inn to the next making inquiries. 

 

What an incredible character Xu Jin really is. He went the whole hog in this. I guess this whole episode was a tribute to him... the soldier, the prince and the husband. He may not have crawled over glass for Fu Rong... but by golly he did much much more than that. His love for her saw him mow down an army of brigands, limp around bleeding from injuries, stab himself and dig out a coffin with his bare hands. Dear me... he's set the bar very high indeed.

 

In contrast is Xu Ping... of course the less said about him the better but I'm sure the differentiation is deliberate. His priorities aren't with Fu Rong as can be seen twice where he runs off at the slightest bit of news regarding Ruyi Pavilion, leaving her to fend for herself or in jeopardy. But it's clear that their trajectories are at odds. He can never be with her because his mind is always elsewhere. It's a great metaphor as seen played out in these two instances.

He proved his manliness .  Foremost he is a Soldier that protects his father’s country, His  protectiveness & Love  towards his wife  and his Stamina. 
 

@SnT I loved the General and I . It does give me the same vibe.  I plan on rewatching this drama today .

Spoiler recaps for eps 36 ( this was a seriously hard episode to watch )

So the King had ordered a decree for the Imperial Guards to eliminate the people involved with the Ruyi organisation. The guards started catching them. XJ's aides were concerned as they know how close FR is to them.  XJ who was worried went by the shop and couldn't decide if he should go in. The maid came out and told him that FR says she can't see anyone due to mental stress and also to be careful of Yuan. Basically she doesn't want to see him. He gave a note to her to tell her to stay away from the Ruyi organisation. But of course she thinks he is just being prejudice.

 

Prince Cheng was supposed to be sentenced to death. Before he drank the poison drink ( that was the punishment) he asked the Eunuch to plead for mercy for his mother as she was innocent ( rolls my eyes). He took the poison drink but didn't die.

 

Then one of the Ruyi guys gets seriously injured. He was helped back to the orphanage by Xiao Qi. FR arrives at the orphanage. The injured guy died. Sad scene . Xiao Qi told her that the Imperial Guards had been catching their members and killing them off supposedly under XJ's instructions.

 

An angry FR goes to see XJ. She asked him why he gave these orders. He says it was the King's decree & that it cannot be ignored. He told her to stay away from them too. But she said she's now the leader of this organisation. She said that he doesn't know that they are not evil . Her master only had her . He was angry she was doing this. Lots of harsh words between them . She told him he must as well arrest her . He was like fine. We will be enemies from this day . ( This was really a pull-hair moment that exasperated me) 

 

Then Ahn begin his sneaky plans. Zhang Yan ( the crazy guy who buried her ) was now well . So Ahn told him he can have his revenge by luring XJ to Ruyi and burn the place up. Yuan, the maid overheard this.

Meanwhile FR and the other maid are hoping to find Yuan as she had been missing from work. They get news that Yuan may be at a market and so FR decided to go look for her. So she left Ruyi shop and they closed shop for the day.  She saw some Imperial Guards ( these were fake guards planted by Ahn) chasing people away from the area. Anyhow she goes to the market , and sees someone that look like Yuan from the back. This was also Ahn planting someone to lure FR out and to give FR the impression it was really Yuan.

 

The crazy ZhangYan for some reason goes to Fu residence and gets a note sent to FR's dad saying that FR was in trouble in Ruyi and needed to be saved. The father told the servant to inform the mother about it as he headed quickly for Ruyi shop.

 

The real Yuan meanwhile goes to see XJ and tells him that FR is in danger in Ruyi. But XJ didn't quite believe her initially as FR had before alerted him to be careful of Yuan. He got his aide to apprehend her . Then she gave some sob story about how she had no choice but do this as the person who instructed her to do this is holding her family as ransom. Lies but XJ was worried as that FR may be in danger. He told his aide to keep watch over her as he rushed to Ruyi

 

At the shop , Zhang Yan had prepped to light the fire and he even tied up FR's dad. XJ came and was surprised to see the shop closed.  But he felt something was not right and checked anyhow. He found FR's dad tied up and freed him but Zhang Yan came in . Shot an arrow , but XJ managed to avert and threw something at ZY's head. He passed out and XJ helped the dad to escape. But the fire had already started.  They had many falling beams & obstacles. Then ZY woke up. He shot an arrow , FR's dad blocked it from XJ.  A beam with fire fell on ZY. XJ continued to remove stuff so they could escape. But sadly as he opened the door, a fiery beam fell and the old man pushed XJ out to safety but he perished instead. XJ was passed out. Some nearby real Imperial Guards saw & came to put out the fire and saw XJ passed out. Took him to safety.

 

Yuan also managed to escape. She asked to make some tea. Then she threw the hot water at XJ's aide and knocked him unconscious 

 

Ahn made his grand appearance with his soldiers, pretending to put out fire. FR hears from the market that Ruyi is on fire and rushes back. She wondered who would do this and kept thinking it was XJ's imperial guards. FR's mum rushed over. They then realised dad was in the shop.

 

Sadly the father died and there was the funeral.  WBQ came to pay respects. Then XJ came to with his arm broken. Ahn came out and said Fu family didn't welcome him there.  XJ knelt and paid respects outside the hall. FR then came out and said to talk in private.

 

FR started questioning him about the fire . She refused to believe his aide that it was not XJ's doing. They tried telling her about how Yuan had come by to tell XJ about her being in danger in Ruyi etc but FR says these were lies as she had saw  Yuan herself at the market. XJ was in so hurt himself but all he could say was that he was sorry he could not save her father. She also didn't believe that Zhang Yan did this as she saw him die plus there was no record of another body. Then she told XJ he is no longer welcomed at Fu Residence. 

 

Towards the night, FR stayed on at the funeral hall as FX took the little bro back. The mum was ill. FX did tell FR that she finds it fishy that XJ would be the one to do this. Actually deep down FR also knew this cannot be XJ's doing but the supposed evidences don't add up. 

 

 

FX goes and check on her mum. The mother gave her the title to their summer home in the village. Tells FX that they'll likely need to sell it to pay for expenses. FX goes to the garden. She had been trying to stay strong the entire day for everyone. WBQ came to see her there. She became cold to him as she doesn't want him to wait for her . She had to observe 3 years of mourning which means no wedding. But WBQ didn't agree. He broke down her walls , and says she should let it all out and that he would be here for her. He will wait no matter how long. Finally she gave in and cried in his arms
