@Tofu Did you try to check if he has a butterfly tattoo on the back of his neck too? Haha.

@bluepebbles @Tofu Me no likey the webtoon's ending  I hope they change it & give me happy ending, esp. when Song Kang already did not get Kim So Hyun in Love Alarm! Hmm you know what? He may be smiling a lot in the preview @Tofu, perhaps later he's back to crying LOL

I really hope so. The webtoon Jaeon is not really a likeable character, not sure if the writer intended to have the main lead not getting the girl in the end.

Also the writer said the webtoon is completed. No more season to follow. Based on the comments, author is fond of writing 'realistic' endings, based on her previous works.

Song Kang And Han So Hee Talk About Similarities To Their Characters In “Nevertheless” + Reasons For Starring In The Drama
nevertheless-song-kang-han-so-hee.jpeg
by C. Hong

On June 18, JTBC’s upcoming Saturday drama “Nevertheless” held an online press conference with director Kim Ga Ram and lead actors Song Kang and Han So Hee.

Based on a hit webtoon, “Nevertheless” is about the realistic romance between a woman named Yoo Na Bi (Han So Hee), who doesn’t believe in love but still wants to date, and a man named Park Jae Uhn (Song Kang), who finds dating a bother but likes to have flings.

Director Kim Ga Ram said, “Han So Hee and Yoo Na Bi are one and the same. There were times when I’d even get confused between the two. I’m grateful to her [for getting so immersed in the role]. Song Kang and Park Jae Uhn are people with different textures. People ask, ‘How can the boyish and pure-hearted Song Kang match with the flirtatious Park Jae Uhn?’, but both have their charms. I think you can say that a spoonful of Song Kang has been added to the original webtoon character of Park Jae Uhn.”

Han So Hee said, “I was a big fan of the original webtoon, and like the director said, I could relate to Yoo Na Bi’s feelings of falling in love. I wanted to try a romance that was different from what I’d done before, something that was more fitting for my current age.”

Although Han So Hee has filmed other projects since then, “Nevertheless” will be the first to come out after her breakout hit drama “The World of the Married.” She said, “A lot of people think that I chose ‘Nevertheless’ to change my image after ‘The World of the Married,’ but the truth is that I am quite similar to Yoo Na Bi in real life. Rather than a ‘change,’ it feels like I’m wearing clothes that suit me.”

About working with Song Kang, she shared, “He was one of the fan casting choices even before the drama was announced, right? I think that he looks very similar to the character. I think that helped me bring Na Bi more to life as well. Song Kang is a bright person in real life too. He has a different appeal from Park Jae Uhn. His innocent and refreshing vibe combined with Park Jae Uhn makes the character more appealing.”

Song Kang said, “When I first saw the script, I thought it was a campus drama, but it’s more like a romance drama with a different twist. I like how it shows the pins-and-needles feeling of sweetness and excitement of romance at that age.”

About Han So Hee, he said, “I think that she resembles Yoo Na Bi on the outside. Her expressions and everything were so similar that I was surprised. Han So Hee is someone who has an easygoing and refreshing personality. She’s very good at what she does. She’s also very flexible. No matter what I do, she goes along with it, so it’s comfortable to film with her.”

Director Kim Ga Ram mentioned the fact that some episodes are being rated 19+. “A lot of people are thinking crude thoughts about the rating,” she said, “but the truth is that the characters are over 19 years old, so they sometimes act in ways that are over 19 years old. Since people under the age of 19 can’t see those things, that’s why the rating is like that.”

Okay Song Kang, we are looking forward what is that twist you are referring to.

Han So-hee said, "Like the title of the drama, it is a work that deals with the emotions of 'knowing but unavoidable' realistically and in more detail. I hope you will pay attention to whether the two people's meeting will be fate, or whether it will be love." He also said, “I was nervous because I received a lot of attention and love before the broadcast, but I worked hard on filming, so please watch it. I hope that it will be a work that will remain in the heart of the viewers as well. Please support Yoo Nabi.”

Park Jae-eon', is a flower that no one can have. He said, "You will definitely get a different feeling from the existing fresh and tickling youth romance. I always feel new while filming. I think viewers will be more attracted to this point,” he added, adding to the anticipation. He continued, “Jae-eon is a person with a strong personality. I thought deeply about how to best express his thoughts and feelings. You will find a completely different look from the ones I have shown in previous works. Please look forward to it.”

The tease on the article, i thought i was reading an excerpt from Mills and Boon  :GrimChamp:

Quote

Excessively sweet, dizzyingly sexy, and the flirtatious reality of young people who want to fall in love even though they know they are bad raises the excitement index. In the photo released ahead of the first broadcast, Jae-eon Park's unstoppable 3-step straight forward moment is unveiled. You can feel the trembling in the eyes of Yuna-bi, who stands with her back against the wall, and Jae-eon Park, who is approaching her. The distance between the two people, close enough to even breathe, calls for a thrilling thrill. The mood of the two in the following photo changes 180 degrees. Park Jae-eon and Yuna-bi are full of freshness like college students. Yuna-bi's face, receiving Park Jae-eon's sweet gaze, is somehow complicated. After the intense first meeting, the two people reunited in an unexpected place, raising curiosity about how their relationship will change.

Park Jae-eon and Yuna-bi's '1 Second Before Kiss' moment makes us guess the unpredictable relationship between the two people who are falling in love. Yuna-bi, with her eyes closed, and Jae-eon Park, boldly entered into his boundary. The moment when your lips seem to touch at any moment creates a 'breathing' of the viewers. Meeting like fate on a chilly winter night The two people raise expectations by foretelling the thrilling excitement from the beginning of what they will go through until they meet the spring night together.

WHOAAA!? :shocked2:

I have to go to my mom's house today but I will come home early to watch this because OMG!!! What is this? Song Kang?! I don't know if I should be heart broken because he's no longer that innocent person I'd imagined him to be or congratulate him on growing up (because now we'll get more juicy scenes from him).

Hahahaha you all are so funny!!

Thanks for leaving me the waking up gift. I went into weibo and was greeted by two post of the same thing consecutively as well. EVERYBODY around the globe is excited by that preview, LOL!

Ok so I've watched episode 1.

I'm not sure whether Nabi's ex Yoo Hyun Woo is a professor but he's definitely a teacher who opens his own sculpture class and doesn't seem to be associated with her Uni. He's the controlling kind of boyfriend who wants Nabi to "discuss with him" everything she does, mainly because she may put something on her that he dislikes (like painted her nail colours green). He's also the kind that thinks he can reason his way out of it in the name of Arts. That inappropriate sculpture he made of Nabi made my blood boil. It's no difference to uploading a sex video on porn website. Nabi needs a Deluxe Taxi name card for her revenge!

Park Jae Eon. A lot of flirting. In the beginning I was OK with Song Kang/Jae Eon but slowly as he gets more and more touchy I just want to slap his hand away since they aren't even that close. I get that he's charming but I really didn't like seeing how she's already smitten by him and finding excuses so she could run to find him. Especially when she should be concentrating on getting her assignment done - and that her grades depended on it.

By the way @bluepebbles , did the webtoon explain why Jae Eon likes butterflies? It is rather unusual that an adult man likes butterflies and has it as a tattoo. All his artworks are butterfly related too. If the webtoon explained it as he just likes it because butterflies represent beautiful fleeting moment or things, I guess it does suit him since he's like a butterflies that fly from A to B to C (sleeps around) and would not settle down.

Let's see how hot episode 2 is so that we can summon 🍫

@Tofu

Still look pretty innocent to me hahahaha

Hmm... in order to have twist (and be surprising) the drama will have to be different to the webtoon, isn't it?

Oh, No Strings Attached - the Natalie Portman and Aston Kutcher movie? That one is quite steamy hahaha.

@mademoiselle I finish the 1st episode. This is only one episode a week right?

Well , this is potentially a steamy college romance but I do agree with the realistic bit. This is how college kids are , no? At the brink of adulthood but not quite , working hard or trying to at least to finish up assignments , contemplating on the future, the present seems so confusing & stressful ( aaaah wait till they have mortgages & other commitments ) , dating & romance is the biggest distraction.

How I see it thus far is that Nabi is that sort that falls in love with love easily. There are red flags about him , and intuitively she knows he's a lot more complicated than she wants to admit but she is unwittingly giving in to her feelings. I can buy the instant attraction bit since Jae Eon is very good looking and he knows how to give her butterflies  ( pun intended) in her stomach. Unless this is a directional decision to make us have doubts about his character, I would say he is bad news. But at her age & station in life , I do think that she would not be thinking so rationally - feelings often come first.

Now I am interested to see if the drama will be different from the webtoon - would Jae Eon's character have more depth to him or is he really just a jerk who thinks he can get away with his looks & charm?

@abs-oluteM There's already a slight difference of how Nabi and Jae Eon met from the webtoon. From bluepebbles' webtoon summary, they met at the friends' gathering. There were even a girl that interrupted them but decided to leave upon seeing the drawn nabi on Nabi's arm.

I'm definitely hoping the drama would be different. I want Song Kang to get his girl this time. Hahaha. And of course I don't want him to be a jerk because bloody hell, girls shouldn't fall for jerks! LOLLLL.

Quick thoughts after watching ep.1... Han So Hee is so pretty 😍 Song Kang is so handsome 😍... but I agree @abs-oluteM that Jae Eon is bad news written all over. Yes Nabi saw all the red flags but couldn’t help herself to continue being drawn to him. I admit it’s hard to resist the charm of handsome smiling boys, and I can only hope my daughter will never meet such a charmer later in college 😓

Not sure if I can or will warm up to his character or not. Maybe those phone calls were just red herring but still, he is very touchy-feely with females. Like the first time he has mistaken Nabi as the person he’s supposed to meet ~ you don’t touch the shoulder of someone you’re meeting the first time ever... Anyway, I also hope there’s more to Jae Eon’s character than what we’ve seen so far.

@mademoiselle @ktcjdrama yes that is the thing that is disturbing about Jae Eon - the touchy feely bit. If this was a more so called "western" sort of culture ( sorry to be stereotyping) maybe you could say he is just friendly and his love language is "touch". But he gives me this vibe that he is flirting with every girl he comes across with.

I was curious what the knets thought of the preview ,so I checked out the Naver comments here

He teaches at a hagwon, so a specialist tutoring school, rather than at a university.

I feel the same way. JE is good looking and all, but he's so handsy and presumptive. It's clear that he's a player, and that he's used to having women give him lots of leeway because he's so good looking. I find it disturbing though for him to so casually place his hand on a woman without her consent. I'm actually starting to find him creepy rather than smooth and sexy as I think we're supposed to find him since the FL is attracted to him despite her better thoughts.

No, this is not necessarily western culture. Though there are some stereotypical male chauvinists who, either due to their looks or their wealth, think they can get away with this. But, I tend to think that's the same everywhere.

Touch may be given more casually in the less formal western cultures, but he's very excessive in how often he grabs a woman's hand, wrist, arm, shoulder, etc. Like I said, I'm starting to find it creepy.

I think that despite having been burned by her cheating ex-bf who also used her as inspiration for his sexually explicit art without her consent, NB is actually a young and still somewhat naive woman. Even as she tells herself that she's reading too much into JE's actions, she is fooling herself into thinking that they have similar feelings for each other. However, in her world, that would lead to a stable relationship whereas in his world, it just means that he wants to have consenting sex with her without any strings.

It seems in the next episode, NB will actually be disabused of her assumptions about JE's interest. The question is whether she will continue to want JE on his terms, giving up on her own terms.

I don't know that I'll continue to watch this drama. It feels like a drama where the FL will mature and find herself, regardless of the ML who will be a source of additional pain and growth for her. I suppose the ML could also do some maturing and possible introspection of his own? Perhaps he has some hurts of his own which lead him to not want to make any commitments to a single woman. Or perhaps he just likes variety in his sex. Still, since this drama thus far is all couple relationship dynamics with possibly more pain than actual fun, I'm not holding high hopes for a payoff that will be satisfying enough for me to keep watching.

I will say that both Song Kang and Han So Hee are very good looking.

Btw, Song Kang may develop an affinity for butterflies if he hasn't already given that he's starring in back to back dramas with butterflies as a theme (Navillera and this drama). I think I mentioned on the Navillera thread that "navillera" is actually a mash up of the word for butterfly (nabi or navi) and the English word cinderella, but with the "ll" and the "r" used interchangeably since in Korean, they indicate the exact same consonant sound.

That's the thing with girls... one of their weaknesses is the sense of touch. Succumbing to touch...

While for boys, it's more visual, will fall because of what the eyes see...

@mademoisellei skipped chapters 20-30, so we will get the answers from there. I will continue to read the remaining chapters and will update here.

However right from the beginning, Jaeon simply just 'like butterflies', without any backstory to tell but only describing their nature. That's all.

I hope the drama will find a way to humanize Jaeon. But like i have seen the webtoon he's a total jerk. And based on the recaps of everyone here , his being touchy to ladies is just what was described in the webtoon . There were no details on this one, i guess the drama will expound Jaeon's description.
