Korean dramas’ male leads usually make this kind of promise to fans.

Lee Joon-ho further doubled his sweet charm to capture fangilrs’ hearts by the love story King Jeongjo-Royal Consort Sung Deok-im, which is considered a famous romantic story of the 18th century, in his latest historical drama.

In the drama The Red Sleeve,” every word and action of Deok-im (Lee Se-young) made him pay attention, so he couldn’t hide his feelings and burst into laughter or anxieties. In the 7th and 8th episodes, he asked Deok-im why she didn’t receive the tangerines he brought, “It’s just a fruit, so what’s the reason not to receive them? Be happy to receive them. OK?” He added, “Are we talking about tangerines now?” and expressed his feelings by comparing them to tangerines, raising viewers’ affection.

Meanwhile, MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “The Red Sleeve,” in which Lee Joon-ho is acting as the male lead, topped the drama index section of the most talked-about TV show category and the most talked-about drama-nondrama category for the fourth consecutive week in December, according to statistics released by Good Data Corporation, a TV topic analysis agency. As of December 3rd, its rating surpassed 10%. The eighth episode, which aired on December 4th, recorded 10.5% of the nation’s ratings based on Nielsen Korea, exceeding the double-digit rating standard.

Earlier, to promote “The Red Sleeve,” Lee Joon-ho made a pledge on the MBC entertainment program “Radio Star,” saying, “If the ratings exceed 15%, I will wear a Dragon robe (worn by Joseon kings) and dance to “My House.” Netizens are focusing their attention on whether that day will come if the drama’s rating continues to rise and surpass 15%, and whether we can watch the “My Palace” version of “My House” by Joon-ho.

The real reasons why Lee Jun-ho and Lee Se-young’s ‘The Red Sleeve’ could surpass Song Hye-kyo’s ‘Now We Are Breaking Up’

Hachi1207 | December 8, 2021

Reporter-turned Youtuber Lee Jin-ho revealed behind-the-scenes stories about MBC drama “The Red Sleeve”.

On December 8th, a video titled, “The real reason why Lee Jun-ho and Lee Se-young could surpass Song Hye-kyo”, was posted on Lee Jin-ho’s Youtube channel.

Lee Jin-ho began the video by saying, “MBC’s drama The Red Sleeve has caused a craze these days with its ratings exceeding 10%”. He mentioned tvN’s Jirisan, which is aired at a similar time to The Red Sleeve and SBS’s drama Now, We’re Breaking Up, saying, “In fact, the competition of Friday-Saturday dramas gained huge attention was because of the face-off between Jun Ji-hyun and Song Hye-kyo.”

Then, he said, “However, the unexpected winner of this Friday-Saturday dramas competition was The Red Sleeve. Jirisan and Now, We Are Breaking Up were left behind due to the rise of an unanticipated battle between the two dramas.” Lee Jin-ho also revealed behind-the-scenes stories of how The Red Sleeve topped the rating chart among famous dramas. He explained, “In fact, Lee Se-young and Lee Jun-ho were not supposed to play the main characters in The Red Sleeve. Other actors were cast, but due to various problems, the production was halted.”

Citing the remark of an official in the entertainment industry, the Youtuber said, “The fact that the production failed once seems to have become a good thing. I think the role of King Jeongjo found Lee Jun-ho, who could portray this character perfectly.”

Regarding the 2nd reason why The Red Sleeve won the competition between dramas of the same broadcasting time, Lee Jin-ho pointed out, “PD Jung Ji-in, who was in charge of directing The Red Sleeve, has a really good reputation. On the outside, she is quite strong and has a ‘female warrior’ style. However, she is well-known as a person who takes good care of people around her”. The Youtuber also mentioned Jeong Hae-ri, who previously worked as the youngest writer of MBC’s “Lee San, Wind of the Palace”, worked on the script of The Red Sleeve and improved the quality of this drama.

Lastly, Lee Jin-ho pointed out the 3rd reason, which is the actors’ “passionate performance”. He said, “In particular, Lee Jun-ho is more attached to The Red Sleeve than any other work”, and explained that Lee Jun-ho had taken thorough care of his body by not touching a little bit of snack from the coffee trucks at the filming sites in order to maintain a great body for the body-revealing scene.

Regarding the female lead actor Lee Se-young, Lee Jin-ho said, “Despite the poor filming environment, after getting vaccinated for the second time, Lee Se-young concentrated on filming without taking a break or recovery days off from the vaccination”, adding, “Even though she is the female lead, she took care of all the staff at the filming set.”

SBS’s The Red Sleeve, which began airing in November, depicts the sad romance of a king, who prioritizes his country, and a court lady who protects the life she has chosen. The drama has received many compliments for making good use of the affectionate romance of King Jeongjo – Lee San and Eui Bin Sung with solid directing and the actors’ acting skills.

Since the 7th episode, which was aired on December 3rd, The Red Sleeve has maintained its No.1 position in the list of Friday-Saturday dramas with a rating of 10% (according to Nielsen Korean’s national standard). tvN’s Jirisan recorded a rating of 8% on December 5th, while the viewership figure of SBS’s Now, We Are Breaking Up was 6% for the episode aired on December 4th.

It really is surreal seeing this much praise and recognition Junho has been earning for TRS.

But I think critics / insider and those in the industry always considered him, Siwan and Kyungsoo as the idols who are actors.

it just too a bit of time and a perfect drama in TRS for the general audience to  see that.

“The Red Sleeve” to increase one more episode, ending with 17 episodes in total

Hachi1207 | December 9, 2021

According to OSEN’s report on December 9th, MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “The Red Sleeve”, which was planned to have 16 episodes, now will end after episode 17. This move is aimed at creating a stronger ending by extending the main broadcast with one more episode, not a special broadcast.

“The Red Sleeve” is a drama depicting the sad romance between a king, who prioritizes his country, and a court lady who wants to protect the life she has chosen. This drama tells about a historical fact, interpreting the romance of King Jeongjo, the 22nd King of Joseon, and his concubine, Euibin Seong, from a modern perspective. It was based on a novel of the same name.

In particular, the drama is receiving huge love from K-Drama fans for impressive performances of Lee Jun-ho, who plays the Crown Prince Lee San, and Lee Se-young, who plays the court lady whose last name is Euibin.

The recently aired 7th and 8th episodes recorded ratings of 10.7% and 10.5%, respectively. The drama is showing a rare rise in the terrestrial broadcasting market, in which a rating exceeding 5% is considered ‘good’, and a double-digit rating is a ‘big hit’.

Meanwhile, the production team plans to repay the viewers’ support and make a successful ending with a stronger impact. Therefore, they decided to extend the drama by one more episode. Regarding the script for the 16th episode, which was the previous final episode, it was already completed the day before the drama was broadcast for the first time. It is expected that working on an additional script will not be difficult.

Currently, “The Red Sleeve” is focusing on the last-minute filming for various stories in addition to the romance that appears in the second half of the drama. Both the production team and the cast are determined to do their best until the end to repay the love they received from the audiences.

“The Red Sleeve” airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 P.M.

“The Red Sleeve” Episode 1 To 8 Review: So Typical But Sooo Much Fun

rscb70-1

Here is a review of the MBC drama “The Red Sleeve” first half!

MBC is on a slight upward trend this year with its content and “The Red Sleeve” has become its first mini-series in nearly three years to surpass the double digits in ratings.

In writing, the drama is about as typical as you’d expect from a historical setting but it retains the fun some MBC dramas used to have.

A lot of my friends have been urging me to see “The Red Sleeve,” I am personally not the biggest fan of historical content so I am always apprehensive about checking historical dramas, this is one of the dramas I don’t regret watching- as of yet.

Note: this is a subjective review. I will share my personal opinion while keeping in mind how others might perceive it. This is a spoiler review

Am delighted for the extension . Usually not a fan because from experience, the shorter the dramas , the better or tighter the plot. ( these days I feel 12 eps is the way to go for most shows) . For this show , because it’s going to span their entire love story , the drama won’t have to rush. Since history is the spoiler, I think it will also mean that

Spoiler

It will cover everything up to her death & him mourning for her over the years. I feel teary eyed just thinking about it .

And yay , it’s finally Friday! These new stills :wow:

Somebody with a good heart managed to translate the kinky part of TRS novel. And tbh, it didn't help when:

1. Junho actually read TRS novel and Fifty Shades of Grey (and made a song thanks to the latter book lmao)

2. Some Korean netz at theqoo wanted this drama to be on Netflix and make it R19 (like a Korean Bridgerton)

LOL! That's hilarious. But the Korean R19 is still very mild if we're comparing to Bridgerton.

Nice edit!

Main watching points for the 2nd half

110725521.1.jpg

● Yeong Jo

As King Yeong- Jo's (Lee Deok-Hwa)'s dementia and power succession become a hot topic, the power struggle over the throne is getting fiercer day by day. In the upcoming second act, the confrontation between Dongdukhoe and the opposition centered on Lee-san reaches its climax. In this process, Yeongjo shows an unpredictable path due to the onset of symptoms of dementia, and the schemes of the opposition.  Furthermore, the way San and Deok-im overcome all kinds of crises and achieve their goals will give viewers a dynamic, fun and a heart-wrenching lingering aftertaste.

● Lee San who will become king

In the meantime, San considers ascending the throne as the number one priority, and has been hardening himself to prepare for it. In response, he struggled to restrain his feelings for Deok-im, a court lady, and made viewers shiver :psweatduck: . In the coming second act, he will no longer hide his desire to be king. Due to this, San's straight forward movement, which wants to keep Deok-im by his side, is also expected to gain momentum. Attention is paid to the romance that will unfold as Crown Prince Lee San, who shook women's hearts with his clumsy but fresh first love, becomes the king of a country and a man with a burning desire. :LaxEat:

'Second refusal'

Deok Im is well-known by later generations as 'the court lady who rejected the king twice'. It is interesting to see how this second refusal will be drawn. In the process, Deok-im's emotional lines, which ripple like waves with each and every action of San, are expected to touch the hearts of viewers. Expectations are high for the second act of 'Sleeves', which can answer the question 'Did the court lady love the king?'

● Hong Deok-ro's move - a lust for power?

It is also expected to be an interesting viewing point to watch how the end of Hong Deok-ro (Kang Hoon), who is engulfed in a lust for power, will end. Currently, Deok-ro has ambitions to raise Lee San to the throne and to become more powerful  by making his sister a concubine of Lee San. This is the situation in which San's affection towards Deok-im will be tested. It will also be interesting to see  how the relationship between San and Deok-ro will be drawn in the second half.

@abs-oluteM @suhodorable

It would have been awesome if this was in Netflix, mainly because it would reach wider base... but even if this was licensed by netflix I think this would still remain as is, mainly cause if this were in MBC restrictions will still apply cause as @abs-oluteM mentione K19 is still  very different and mild than the western rating.

Hahaha Junho and 50 shades. His solo performances just gives a peek at his brain.. wuri nuneo is..... sly and :lenny:
