Jeon Do Yeon And Ryu Jun Yeol Are Drawn To Each Other By Fate In Poster For Upcoming Drama “Lost”

Spoiler

Jeon-Do-Yeon-Ryu-Jun-Yeol1.jpg

“Lost” tells the stories of average people who realize they haven’t become anything throughout their lives and try their best to see the spotlight. Jeon Do Yeon stars as Boo Jung, a ghostwriter in her 40s who feels lost and as if she hasn’t been able to amount to anything. Ryu Jun Yeol stars as Kang Jae, a man who runs a service where employees act out whatever roles clients request.

Previously, the first main poster portrayed the “lost path” version, which depicted Boo Jung’s loss and Kang Jae’s wandering. The second main poster is the “recognizing” version and conveys the two people’s complex emotions. With an old-style vibe, the new poster uses six cuts to capture the moment in which Boo Jung and Kang Jae, who were just passing by, turn around and look back.

Their gazes as they look at each other are sentimental and lonely, but they also deliver warmth that means much more than any words of comfort could. The short text on the poster reads, “I met someone who recognizes me,” leaving a powerful impression on viewers. As Boo Jung and Kang Jae meet one another who are both different and alike, they are mysteriously drawn to each other while feeling an emotion that lies somewhere between empathy and compassion.

Already, viewers are highly anticipating “Lost” for being Jeon Do Yeon’s and Ryu Jun Yeol’s first return to the small screen in five years. As Boo Jung, Jeon Do Yeon will portray her character’s pain of living life without a presence. Boo Jung has lost her reason to live after facing her failed self on the downward road of life despite trying her best. Ryu Jun Yeol’s character Kang Jae wants to become rich and has taken on the risk of climbing higher in order to let go of his poor background. Wandering on his way to find a shortcut while dreaming of a luxurious life, he’s lost his direction in life in front of a steep uphill road without having accomplished a single thing. Viewers are curious to learn more about the story of the two people who will become a single ray of light in each other’s dark lives.

The production team shared, “Boo Jung and Kang Jae have lonely walked life’s steep hills alone. The pair’s special way of comforting one another as they become each other’s solace and understand and relate to the other’s pain will deeply resonate with viewers.”

Ryu Jun Yeol Is An Indifferent Man Who Is Willing To Do Anything For Money In Upcoming Drama “Lost”

Spoiler

ryu-jun-yeol-3.jpg

ryu-jun-yeol-2.jpg

The newly released stills show Ryu Jun Yeol’s transformation into Kang Jae, whose one and only goal is to become rich. He does whatever he can to earn money, but he is afraid that he won’t be able to amount to anything. He is a man who pretends to be an adult but is actually an innocent boy. Furthermore, he seems cynical, but he wants to be someone that is needed.

The photos share a glimpse of Kang Jae’s exhausting and boring daily life. His clients send him a message of what they want and the payment to carry out their request, and he transforms into whatever they want: a friend, family, or lover. He perfectly carries out his missions, but his life is nothing but dull. In the stills, he walks into dark alleys with the same indifferent expression, and it will be intriguing to find out how he will change after meeting Boo Jung.

Ryu Jun Yeol shared why he chose to star in “Lost,” saying, “I felt lingering feelings after reading the script for the first time. Kang Jae’s charms also greatly touched my heart. This drama is a grateful project where I am able to work with Jeon Do Yeon and director Heo Jin Ho.”

Then he added, “Just like any youth, Kang Jae is a person who endures each and every day with vague anxiety. I sympathized with the changes of Kang Jae, who pursues the logic of money that is in the world and thinks money is love, that occur due to the development of the drama.”

Lastly, Ryu Jun Yeol shared, “I wanted to learn about Kang Jae’s life and loneliness with him. I wanted to express the youth I experienced, and I also wanted to express the philosophy of life that I had in my life and various thoughts that come from relationships and encounters. It seems like I’m still walking on the same path as him.”

The newly released stills depict the rising tension between Boo Jung and Ah Ran (played by Park Ji Young), an actress who is also her client. Boo Jung shows up unannounced to Ah Ran’s book signing event. Her eyes are cool with anger and deep with sadness. Ah Ran pretends to be calm, but her face slightly trembles in the presence of her ghostwriter. It remains to be seen how their relationship will develop from this moment on.

The producers of “Lost” shared, “The story of Boo Jung and Ah Ran, whose relationship left scars and turned ill, will also be interestingly portrayed. You can look forward to Jeon Do Yeon and Park Ji Young’s synergy. [The drama will] increase immersion by depicting character relationships and emotional changes in detail.”

Ryu Jun Yeol, Son Naeun, And Yoo Su Bin Are Three Friends Facing Different Challenges In Upcoming Drama “Lost”

lost6.jpg

Spoiler

ryu-jun-yeol2.jpg

The new stills show Kang Jae with his two very different friends Min Jung (played by Son Naeun) and Ttak Yi (played by Yoo Su Bin). Kang Jae glances around as if he’s waiting for someone. Min Jung looks rather relaxed as if she’s used to this situation, and Ttak Yi’s face is bright as he gazes at his friends. The trio seem happy and comfortable around each other, but they are all experiencing their own struggles.

Min Jung is someone who can’t easily fit into an ordinary lifestyle. After nine years of living as an idol trainee, she gave up her dreams and joined hands with Kang Jae. After losing her one and only goal in life, she tries to be “anyone who is everywhere.”

naeun.jpg

On the other hand, Ttak Yi (whose real name is Soon Ju) is a frustrating young man who has never escaped from ordinary life. He is called Ttak Yi instead of Soon Ju because of his unique way of speaking, and he is Kang Jae’s oldest and closest friend. Just like his birth name, he is kind and quiet, but he also speaks his mind and has the special ability to make even misfortunes ordinary.

yoo-su-bin.jpg

The production team shared that viewers will sympathize with Kang Jae, Min Jung, and Ttak Yi, who lived different lives but all experience struggles in their youth. They added, “Please look forward to the performances of Ryu Jun Yeol, Son Naeun, and Yoo Su Bin, who will create an axis in the form of youth that is neither special nor ordinary.”

Jeon Do Yeon And Ryu Jun Yeol Talk About Why They Chose To Appear In “Lost” Despite Its Emotional And Difficult Themes

by C. Hong

source: soompi

51488eac934349a0b636300b7ea7f28f.jpeg?s=

On September 2, JTBC’s upcoming drama “Lost” held an online press conference with Jeon Do Yeon, Ryu Jun Yeol, and director Hur Jin Ho.

The Korean title of “Lost” translates to “Human Disqualification,” and director Heo Jin Ho explained, “It’s about the loss and scars that accumulate when someone feels that they aren’t living up to the qualifications that define being ‘human.'”

Jeon Do Yeon said, “I had decided that even if it took a long time to find a good project, I would avoid content that was too dark or heavy. But when I read this script, I decided that I would take it on, even if it was dark, because it was about trying to find the light. I cried a lot when I first read the script. I got a lot of questions from the people around me. ‘Can Jeon Do Yeon really pull off a story about someone who hasn’t been able to become anything in her life?’ But somehow I could really relate to Boo Jung’s feelings.”

Ryu Jun Yeol said, “The script was good, but I really wanted to join the project because I would be working with director Heo Jin Ho and writer Kim Ji Hye. I begged them to use me. It was really easy to decide on the project. My character’s story in this drama is also about youth, but it’s different from the ones that I’ve done until now. Before now, I played coming-of-age stories, but Kang Jae loses his way after he starts to doubt whether what he thought was the right answer for him was wrong all along. I wanted to show a new side of youth, the kind of loneliness and bitterness that comes when you’ve lost your way.”

Asked about key points to look out for in the drama, Ryu Jun Yeol said, “I think it’s relatability. We talk a lot about the two main characters’ stories, but there are other stories in the drama that are really interesting. There are lots of diverse characters, but I want to emphasize that they are all ‘ordinary.’ That’s the important focus of the drama.”

Jeon Do Yeon said, “Boo Jung is someone who is tightly closed off, so I worried a lot about how she would open up through the course of the drama. I really worked hard in order to understand the character of Boo Jung. But as filming went on, as time went on, regardless of the work I put in or not, her heart opened to Kang Jae of its own accord. I opened up to Ryu Jun Yeol in the same way as Boo Jung did to Kang Jae. I personally would like it if the viewers went in to the story not knowing anything about Boo Jung. There are people in our lives that we might know without really knowing them. It would be nice if they just watched over her and cheered her on.”

“Lost” premieres on September 4 at 10:30 p.m. KST.

Liked the 1st episode. The themes are heavy and it does start off rather depressingly. If I had not read Kang Jae's character description here , I'd thought that he was a gigolo. LOL. But what he does is to offer services to clients needing someone to pretend to be lover/ friend/ mourner etc However since he's quite the charmer, he is popular with the ladies and receives many gifts and plenty of admiration. The episode does start off with the death of his buddy who had apparently commited suicide with the lover. So a chunk of the episode dealt with him and Soon Ju handling the news & the funeral ( no one came to claim the body so the two friends did).

We also got to see Bu Jeong's story. I understand that she has been going through depression and is working part time as a cleaner. Doesn't seem like her writing career has brought her success. She is married to Jung Su , a manager at a supermarket. He seems like a nice guy but doesn't seem like they are very happy , likely due to her own depression ( she feels like a failure) and overbearing MIL.

The leads interaction happens on a fateful evening after she has gone to see her father ( yay the old man from Navillera) . Kang Jae and BJ's dad live on the same level in the same apartment. She had been crying to her dad because she has been rather upset about underachieving in life. On her way back home she was still tearing up. And Kang Jae seeing her in tears lends her his handkechief.

Their interactions were short but left an impression on each other and on me.

Considering she is married, will there be an affair or something a lot less defined? :heiboi:

He is not. You can see the 1st few minutes when he made an excuse to the lady that he cannot sleep with her. He was just pretending to be her lover only. (Paid of course).

Ooo the hubs has a 1st love

In the published photo, the second meeting of Bu-jeong and Kang-jae draws attention. The atmosphere that sank heavily between the two people who found each other on the rooftop in the middle of the night is unusual. The tears flowing over the cheeks of Bu Jeong looking back at Kang-jae add to the curiosity of what kind of story will unfold. Another photo contains an awkward reunion between Jung Soo and Kyung Eun. Jung-soo's face, as he tries to turn away from his first love, who he has been separated for 15 years, is cold. Kyung-eun's relaxed smile as she watches Jung Soo on the phone with his wife, Bu Jeong, is also interesting. It remains to be seen what kind of changes these reunions will bring.

I'm now pretty sure this drama taking the inspiration from the author life of the novel with same title that have the same tragic fate as JW's character.

Osamu Dazai

The last lady in Osamu Dazai’s life is Tome Yamazaki, who worked as a beautician in a salon. The two developed a relationship and started living together. During their time together, Osamu wrote his most popular novel of all-time - Ningen Shikkaku or No Longer Human. He was able to successfully finish the novel before successfully committing suicide one last time with Tomie. The two drowned themselves in a nearby river from their home.

@abs-oluteM The drama is interesting because the ML is gigolo and the FL 40's something that felt failed in life. Both is far from perfect and it's some nice change for normal glitzy drama that we usually consume.

I have to say gigolo's life is so confusing 🤣 I lost my head when he's trying to explain his situation, to ask the friend to pretend as his girlfriend 😅

Okay, the ending on the bus with that Hermes handkerchief or scarf (?) sold me off 😆 One piece like 680$! They do looks good together as another forbidden couple on our strings lols.

I still don't know is this drama will be closer to World of Married, My Mister, or Love Affair in The Afternoon ? This one seems have some sarcastic humour embedded to it.

Edit : He's not gigolo ? 😆

@SilverMoonTea @Mizv  I like eps 2. It is pretty much setting their background so we really only get to see some interactions of them at the beginning and towards the end. But I think it is enough to keep me invested and I think from preview we will get to see more of them together.

----------------

Summary for the 1st two episodes...

Kang Jae isn't a gigolo but he has been a male escort before ( and from ep 1 , I don't think he has crossed over to the point where he gets paid for sex) . I am under the impression that he may have done all sorts of jobs to survive, and his current gig where he is a "professional proxy" ( he can be hired to be your lover, family , friend etc for events like funerals / weddings etc) is probably giving him decent amount of income . He was able to lend his dead friend a rather large sum of $$. But since he will not be able to get it back , I think it has caused him some financial difficulty. Hence he is thinking of moving out from his current place , as the rental deposit is quite high - and he can take the deposit back. This perhaps will temporarily solve his $$ woes. He is clearly good at what he does since we're given the impression that his clients (female) fawn over him and give him expensive gifts.

Also his father whom he misses the most (from his narration ) has passed away. Mum is remarried - but it seems like he too has lent them $$. In his narration he says he equates $$ to love ( and I suppose happiness) but you can tell he is beginning to question that . While he projects this cool and charismatic front, there's this loneliness that he feels . And I think , he is beginning to question what it is that he wants - his friend's death / suicide has become the catalyst to him realising that he feels empty.

Bu Jeong's story is a very sad one . We get to know her at probably what is the lowest point of her life.  She had been accused of trolling her former boss's SNS and was sued for "malicious" comments though what she said was the truth. It has not been revealed why her ex boss who is a famous writer / publisher slapped her one day when BJ was leading a staff meeting. And the assault was quite severe that BJ fell and she had a miscarriage as a result. She also lost her job but we do know that the ex-boss's latest book was ghost written by BJ. BJ has been depressed ever since and I think this has affected her relationship with her husband . She also has a very nosy MIL who is quite well off but likes to pry into everything , and doesn't think that BJ was the right person to be her son's wife. But BJ has a great dad who is very caring. They are not financially well off but he works hard collecting scraps for recycling and does his best to morally support her. He lives in the same building as Kang Jae, hence this is how the leads cross paths.

BJ's husband has his own story too. Looks like he has a 1st love that he may have not been able to forget. The 1st love's husband is dying. A class reunion dinner got the two in touch again and I think that the 1st love will seek solace from her husband. I believe there may be an affair or perhaps there may be misunderstandings that will contribute to the breakdown of BJ's marriage.

So I like their interactions because both times he unwittingly saw her and  spoke to her when she was at her lowest. At the end of eps 1, on the bus he saw her cry, gave her his expensive hanky for her tears and ended up sitting to chat with her as she didn't want to be left alone.  The end of eps 2 , he stopped her from killing herself. In a moment of anger when on the phone with her ex boss, she wanted to jump off the building. Fortunately he had passed by when she was yelling on the phone in the stairwell. Sensing something was not right he went up to the rooftop and stopped her from jumping.

interesting, really

but argh sorry Oppa Junyeol (and tbh Junyeol is not the only attraction, I really attracted to the idea of Jeon Doyeon comeback & how the director thinks of them directly to play the role) but I haven't watch this because my current mood.. but my favorite from that short watch is scenes like you know, while contemplating the meaning of sentences told, that drowning scene of Bujeong while having public bath, which is a metaphoric one but gives you feel of kinda what thriller gives? Idk how to explain but it is mindf. Love it

@abs-oluteMHe's for sure have his way with ladies, and the way he tried to pacify her for sure is not common. At first he kept talking about Kakao, and he kept asking her to let him go. Until I think she get her sense back and slightly agitated lols. And their second encounter, he just asked her calmly, "Why die? Just don't pick up the phone". He's also not that urgent on saving her somehow, he was not running in the stairs, eventhough I think he sensed something must be quite amiss. With his friend's recent suicide, I also find his attitude kind of unusual. I guess like you mentioned he's also kind of empty & lost.

I hope KJ will not be so desperate that he need to take the job to extort info, presumably from BJ, instructed by JAR? (suggested by his male escort's friend). This will be quite messy if going to that route. Actually BJ also doesn't seems to have any will to live, other than bringing JAR down. It's also make me think that she might be purposely become housemaid in JAR's residence to get some info about her. The last string for her to live will be only her lovely father.

If looking from the title, the topic, and the novel "No Longer Human", I felt this drama should have tragic ending. As the real life author did commit suicide and the novel is like semi autobiography which served almost as his own last will to the world. For those interested with the summary of his novel

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Longer_Human

But since in the article they kept mentioning about this drama theme is to finding a light,  I hope they will not have the same ending.

I did read some article on male escort in Korea. Seems some bar strictly no sex, but if anything will be taken place outside, it will be depend on them.

It seems in this kind of bar, the guy will accompany the girls to talk, dance or singing. They normally good looking and can talk well. Some of them boasted they can find out what the girl do and how much money they're making, by just talking to them in short period.

I guess no wonder KJ feels very empty, I can only imagine this type of escort only think about how to keep the girls happy, so they will come again and make more money. Probably they will make some real connection, but I doubt this sort of relationship can last long.
