Coz this writer wrote Start-up, but no, she doesn't need to be banned. Hahaha, I'm OK with her. Still one of the trustworthy scriptwriters out there.

I trusted her until she messed up Start-up… hahahah… Wifi has been very poor where I am… I’ll have to catch up when I get home, including final episodes of Twinkling Watermelons!

Let’s see if I can stay awake to watch at least one episode of this drama. Trying to download now before my flight!

Mannnn Episode 7 of this drama slayyyyyed me! :heart::heart:

I haven't felt the rush of romance addiction with this year's dramas...but I think I did  a bit when watching this episode. I love both Chae Jong Hyeop and Park Eun Bin. They both have such beautiful smiles and they're both super cute together :wow: And I'm glad that they're giving Ki Ho such a grand moment. I also felt like this episode had good momentum and pacing. Like there's movements on all fronts from Mok Ha achiving her dreams, to Ran Joo learning to let go and faciing her fears of betryals, to Ki Ho revealing his identity and the father nearing his chase. Also there's a bit more revelation with the family secret and the lake. And I'm glad there was no weird editing - I still can't quite understand why Wigen was narrating as future Ran Joo?

But I wonder if you feel this way @Tofu...But I kinda wish they'd fix Chae Jong Hyeop's hair!!! It's kinda fizzy at the moment and not his usual look - I just want to straighten it

The editing for this was not seamless as it could have been. I was really confused with her appearance but today's episode explain that she is Ran Joo's mom. She has dementia so sometimes, she thinks she's Ran Joo.

@mademoiselle and I have been talking about this wolf cut for a long time now because we noticed a lot of male celebrities (both Korean and Chinese) are getting it. Some celebrities match this hairstyle (BTS's Jung Kook), but there are many who do not match it. I'm hoping this haircut will go away soon because if it's not maintained well it just look like an out of control mullet.

I loved that Ki Ho walked in so confidently to confront his dad. He's no longer that young kid anymore.

Spoiler

However, in the preview he's has cuts and scratches. Does that mean he got assaulted by his dad? He's wearing the same clothes he wore to see him. :pandacop:

The boys' adopted dad practically gave up on his life to help the mom when she was running away from the dad. I'm sure some might look at it as the adopted dad was taking advantage of a vulnerable woman, but I think he genuinely wanted to help her. Probably somewhere along the way, the two of them fell in love. He seems to really love the boys as his own and I thought this mirror scene with Ki Ho was the cutest.

CD-33.gif

I don't know if anyone here is watching Strong Girl, but it's so strange seeing the actor who's playing Ki Ho's and Chae Ho's dad go from playing a loving dad to Nam Soon to such a horrible dad to the boys.

My heart went out to him because you can tell that he's probably going to back off knowing that the younger brother still likes Mok Ha. Despite how unbothered he makes himself out to be, Woo Hak is actually pretty strong mentally. He doesn't have all his memories, but he doesn't let it affect him. If I was him, I would be so confused and unsure of what to do.

I hope Woo Hak and Ki Ho team up to get rid of their abusive dad. Both boys keep doing things separately when they are stronger together.

Ep.7 is so.good. I think my favourite episode so far. Watching it was like on an emotional roller coaster. Waiting for the result with bated breath, cheering with delight, crying with joy, trembling with fear, tearing in sadness, sighing a relief... everything...

Ki Ho's father is scarily smart... He is not easily fooled by anything. Quiet but menacing. Kudos to the actor Lee Seung Joon, coz I also see him in Strong Girl Nam Soon, portraying a totally different character.

I love that we get to see other characters perspectives ie. Ki Ho's mother's story on how she finally was able to escape her abusive husband. So it's true what many have guessed that they took on the identity of another missing family, which seems to have been found and it's only a matter of time before they were found out? Will the story go that direction at all, I wonder. Anyway, the side characters are given enough screen time.

I always the opening of every episode where we're given a little bit of background story, or prologue, before we continue where we left off the episode before. Some revelations are also peppered seamlessly in the story eg. we found out that Ki Ho has never stopped looking for Mok Ha all these years with the island clean-up project he's always doing.

I cried and on the verge of sobbing too when Mok Ha admitted to the diner lady how she lied and actually ate the eggs of her only "friend" on the island.

We get some valuable life lessons too from her experience on the island.

Omg . I just learned a new word -  patricide! Man, BG please don’t do it . I’d like to think it’s just the drama teasing us . I agree  @Tofu that these boys need to confront their father together, though I know BG wants to protect WH from the dad too.

Given MH - BG history, it’s almost feels criminal if I continue to hope for MH-WH end game . Firstly , we know that both MH & BG still have feelings for each other , and that really is all that matters. Secondly from WH’s perspective, his brother comes first , his own feelings cannot compare to all that MH & BG have gone through. I love how he swiftly put an end to those burgeoning affections, and tried his best to play Cupid. His supposed playfulness is only because he’s been fed memories that aren’t his. The fact that he often sticks to BG like gum is because subconsciously, there’s that fear of losing his brother.

I wonder though what is the punishment for theft identity … how will they even resolve this without anyone going to jail. 😅

The title of this episode is First fan vs first fan, but the storyline doesn't even relate to the episode title.

I'm glad we have clarification who Wigen is. Hahaha! But how is it possible that a dementia lady can so easily “escape” the nursing home, and go all the way to the Brothers' Salon.

Woo Hak has been really cute this episode. He still feels like the younger brother to me than the older one, though. And have you guys notice? He drives a white car, and Bo Geol drives a black one. Like white prince, black prince with their white horse and black horse. Ahem. I'm just being random and not sure this comparison goes anywhere.

I really like that scene where Woo Hak called time out. Those two were oblivious while Woo Hak successfully suss out how they feel about each other. And it was a total *swoon* for me that Bo Geol was honest with his feelings for Mok Hak! However, his decision later is worrisome. I can't believe he was even considering patricide. Am I right to assume that even though Mok Hak thought he was watching porn, she manages to talk him out of it? Why is watching porn illegal, by the way?

When foster father said to Bo Geol he will protect them, fear suddenly dawn on me re: the foster father. What if something happens to him? I sure do not want this happy family to lose one another. I have faith that one way or the other, one of the boys might be hurt, but I am banking everyone will be intact by the end of the show.

How did Ki Ho's father find the Brothers' salon before Ki Ho goes to see him? The message he left Ki Ho was very well played out. I felt the sinister at that moment. He saw through Ki Ho's intention. Eeek. He makes a good detective if he isn't so messed up!

@abs-oluteM I believe you can appeal to court for a lighter punishment, given their circumstances. Additionally, if you break the law the first time, you are usually put on probation, perform X hours of community service, and/or pay fines. A lot of villains get off this way in the drama, and so did the celebrities.

@Tofu  More, please. I also like the smiles in the scene where Mok Ha sang “Dream Us”. Can you please also make a GIF of Woo Hak unlocking his phone with his face? That expression was funny and cute.

Hahahaha. Because you both were the ones who kept feeding me reasons for your habit of having SLS! So how can I trust that you guys will remain loyal to Chae Jong Hyeop (or any other Oppa) now that they become male leads? :GrowDerp:

Hahaha Chae Jong Hyeop is in my top tier of Oppas, so I don't think I can ever fall for SL when he's around  But admittedly, I don't think he always picks the types of projects I love (For example, have never watched Neverthless because it wasn't something I was interested in), whereas Lee Jae Wook's projects always interest me and I'd probably still watch them even if he had not been cast in them. But Chae Jong Hyeop is just as important to me

Bloodhounds - there are no second male leads. This is a duo male-lead drama and no love line.

Destined With You - Oh c'mon, him over Shin Yu? Tsk tsk. *Disapproval for anyone with SLS for this drama* 😆

Taxi Driver 2 - no romance here. I thought SLS only applies to triangle love.

My Mister - Jang Ki Young was too abusive to ship with IU.

Where Stars Land - Eun Seob (my poor Rowoon) has been friend-zoned from the beginning. Even I don't have SLS no matter how pretty he was back then. I was dead set on LJH and CSB pairing.

Strong Girl, Nam Soon - I didn't watch this, but I created the thread for PHS/PBY and Byeon Woo Seok 😂

Hahahaha, I know a lot of these are not romances this year, but I actually think my SLS extends past romances. Sometimes I'll be into the second lead in a non romance and I'll spend all my drama time obsessing about them :laugh::laugh:

Hahaha, I'm also pretty sure I'll jump ship to the second lead in any drama that does not contain my god-tier favourites. (Rowoon dramas are constantly in danger of me falling in love with the second lead because while he's an Oppa, he is not on my God Tier list....though he was very hot in Destined with You:idk:

Hahaha do you still have SLS @abs-oluteM? Totally understand why for this series, though I don't have it myself. N's performance is great. At first, I was a little confused by his character. But I've warmed up a lot to him. Also, in a weird way that I can't explain he reminds me oddly of Lee Jae Wook. I think it's that kind of talkativeness he has about him. But sorry, Chae Jong Hyeop bringing too much charm for me this time :heiboi:

From the last few minutes of the episode, I believe Mok Ha managed to talk him out of it, by reminding him that whatever he's looking at is a crime and it will ruin him. He pinkie-promised her...

I think he purposely went to find his father to get beaten and thus the 5 years statute of limitations for domestic abuse become effective again.

Regardless of who Ki Ho is, will a love line develop between Mo Hak and Bo Geol? There are only 12 episodes, no time to play-play. I don't mind not having romance, because visually I find Park Eun Bin looks too much older than Chae Jong Hyeop and Cha Hak Yeon in the drama. These two are too boyish and don't look their age, that's why. However, if we are going to have one then the Show needs to quicken up the process because right now, Bo Geol and Mo Hak have very little interactions!

I find it so odd that this drama is so short? But I don't mind the 12-13 episode range in both Kdramas and Tw-dramas because it means there's no drag in the storyline :heiboi:

I think this drama only has a very mild romance line. It's not one of those hot and heavy romances. It feels kind of innocent because Seo Mok Ha still seems oddly childish/ immature. So the romance line has to be very wholesome and gentle? I think Park Eun Bin and Chae Jong Hyeop both look young, but agree that Chae Jong Hyeop and N both look so boyish that it's hard for all their female co-stars :idk:

Shy people acting is actually not unsual! A lot of my actor/ performer friends are shy, but they say playing another character helps them to get out of their own skin. Like they feel like they can start new because they're being percieved as someone else :yayaya:

I've seen a few step parents around me that are like this and it always warm my heart to see that people can care for others' children as if they're their own. @mademoiselle I'm heeeeeeere!!! Binged it on the plane and over the weekend and I'm all caught up!

I'm loving the story and glad for the absolute lack of ambiguity on who has the love line with the FL. Writer's learned her lesson from Start-up's catastrophic set up. Is the director the same one she's always worked with too? And she has a thing for reporters (and her ever faithful YGN broadcast network ya? She's got this whole universe written up through all her stories!)

While I love the story, I have to say I don't feel the romance between Mok Ha and Ki Ho. No palpable chemistry and tension between the two other than the good acting. Older brother's acting is also, emm.... mm... not doing it for me. But yes, I love the story.

I agree with @ktcjdrama that while he did look up patricide (I was alarmed when he did!) but Mok Ha in her innocence and steadfastness did get him to decide otherwise. Getting beaten up would "revive" (sadly) grounds for protection because of domestic violence. I think the laws in Korea really don't protect women and children very well. But from the way the story is written, it seems like between now and (back) then, things have changed.

I forgot to mention in my post before, I remember coming across patricide in another kdrama, and it is a far more serious offence in South Korea due to their cultural/Confucian education. It's definitely not an option for Bo Geol to go down that route. I appreciate Park Hye Ryun is raising awareness in the issue with the law on domestic violence. I was quite shocked that they can't change their names without the father's consent! What protection the law offers if they can't conceal their identities from a perpetrator, who happens to be a family member? The lawmakers in Korea must be nuts, and super biased.

With a social commentary such as this, Park Hye Ryun always have a character being a journalist/reporter. I believe she is setting it up to highlight the loophole in the law for domestic violence. I do think Woo Hak being a reporter helps bring down their father. Together with Bo Geol (with his editing skills), they have the power to expose this through media, and use it to their advantage in swaying the public opinions and put pressure on the prosecution/lawmakers.

CD-37.gif

At this point of the drama, I like both brothers. Romance-wise, I'm Team Ki Ho because the “emotional bond” those two shared in the past is irreplaceable. Even separated for 15 years, they still care and never forget about each other. That beats Woo Hak's one sided attractions towards Mok Ha.

@JenL So the criteria of you never ever have SLS is that the Oppa has to be in God's tier. Never say never, though! There is always that dark horse.

With Lee Jae Wook, he's done a lot more varieties of characters and in some memorable dramas, either as cameos or supporting roles compared to Chae Jong Hyeop. For example, LJW was Marco in Memories of the Alhambra. He was a nobody then, and it's his debut, but I managed to remember him. Obviously, when I first found out that it was the same guy in EY and Search: WWW, I was surprised because he looked so different as Marco. And I think that's why he made a stronger impression. Not to mention at the time I was into Zinu (Hyun Bin), and he was kind of riding on Hyun Bin's name as the new actor from HB's agency. He was also memorable in Search: WWW for his drama in a drama's scenarios. That said, his own dramas where he's the male leads were not as memorable/successful. I hope his upcoming one with Lee Se Young will be good. Did you watch his cameo in Kill Bok Soon?

With Chae Jong Hyeop, I recognise his charm since the beginning, but he just hasn't been in The One drama where I really love and make me go 🤩. So, no, he hasn't been adopted yet. Let's see how it goes by the end of this drama. I'm swooning at his dimples and smiles, but I'm waiting for him to flutter my heart, if that makes sense. I hope the writer gives Bo Geol more depth and chance to shine. Usually, the actors become popular after appearing in Park Hye Ryun's dramas.

Love All Play's second lead is quite forgettable. Wasn't he the one who dated FL's sister and kept finding issues in the female lead? I can't even remember his face. I'm still annoyed with this drama, mainly because I'm disappointed CJH is being paired with that FL. They have no chemistry, and the story was bad.

Yes, I agree, this drama will have a mild romance too. Mainly because there are too many characters and their side stories to tell. By the end of the drama, the story needs to give us a satisfactory closure for Mok Ha and her singer dream. It also needs to deal with the identity theft and domestic violence issues. Then there's Yoon Ran Joo. The romance will probably be gloss over ever so slightly for the OTP. Besides, if Mok Ha really becomes a superstar, will their relationship last if they date? In addition to this, having seen so many Park Eun Bin's dramas, she hasn't had many good chemie romances under her belt. Her best one which I find most convincing was Brahms. She might be like Kim Hye Soo where their strength is not in romance genre. So with all this in mind, I believe it'll be lightly touched on. Ki Ho needs to wait for her to grow up, too. HAHAHA!

Chae Jong Hyeop's badge – you can request from @Tofu!

Wolf cut – unfortunately yes. Look up on Woo Do Hwan. I wanted to cry. I think CJH's Nevertheless' hairstyle is awesome, but I really dislike that drama, so I'll never rewatch this!

The thing I like about Park Hye Ryun and her dramas is that her good guy male characters are likeable. Maybe it helps that the actors cast are all good-looking, cute guys. Hahaha! I did dislike the female characters/actresses in her dramas, though.

@gilaswan Yay, you are here!

@ktcjdrama @gilaswan

I agree with both of your assessment on patricide. I, too, also think Mok Ha helped him decide against it, even though she had something else in mind. However, their promise was implied.

Re: Bo Geol's confession, I didn't think they like each other that way when they were young. Or at least it was just budding feelings and not yet deepen. But I do think Bo Geol's feelings for Mok Ha grew stronger as time passes. And he knows the feelings of regret, so he is shooting straight ball immediately. Heh.

@Tofu

But her dementia was getting worse. Surely they can't let her out on her own. Else they wouldn't be anxiously searching for her if she was allowed to wander out alone.

The unlocking phone is the latest episode, when the radio station share the old record on Mok Ha cried/talked to Ran Joo 15 years ago. It was even funnier when you zoom it up. Someone on Weibo did that and repeated the scene 3 times to highlight it. I wanted to grab the video and share, but couldn't get the link last night.

Did you finish Unlock the Boss?
