I think it’s before. So he asked for a moment to go prepare the simple wedding ceremony first. Then consummate the marriage 😆It’s the princess we’re talking about here!! Things have to done proper.

I wish the subs wouldn’t take so long to come out! it’s always almost midnight week by the time I get to watch it.  Can’t even watch raw if I wanted to cos not available either. *sad*

 

Regarding Daeyeop, since LCLee was instrumental in deposing previous King and his “preferred heir” which I assume to be Daeyeop’s father, it must be that his sister and household would’ve been killed too if he had not hidden her and her son in his home. Explains why Mrs LCLee didn’t like Daeyeop and found fault in all he did. Daeyeop and SK would be first cousins, wouldn’t they? So how could LCLee still suggest that they could be married, ie he can have SK if he became King? LCLee is really manipulating the boy for his own purpose.  

 

By the way, has anyone wondered about how Bawu’s mother and sister could recognise him after years apart? It would sound like he lived apart from them for years and grew from child into adulthood without his mum. How did they recognise him when the family was eventually reinstated?

Lee is having such a long talk with DY , manipulating him about the taking on the crown...DY still quite emotional about it. Lee mentioned his sister if I am not mistaken and DY ended up pointing a sword at Lee in anger. He didn't  injure Lee but Lee was happy that he managed to affect DY. 

 

Is DY taking the bait ? He and his aunt/ mum are having such a heated & teary discussion. She doesn't want him to fight for the crown. I can only make out that he mentioned about SK being his cousin. And they talk about his father . He said something that made her slap him. She even had an argument with her brother Lee. And now I see DY having flashbacks of him and SK. I pity him , if he had known SK was his cousin from the start, this wouldn't be such a heartache. Urghh

Episode 18

 

Started where Lee held up the sword. Lee said DY is actually not his son, that he is the son of Im Hae. Cut to DY entering Aunt's room and asked her emotionally how etc etc. Aunt tearily answered him. I think she said that if DY is known, he would be killed like his birth father. She has regrets but she is also grateful to be able to see him each and every day. DY said something and asked for Aunt to forgive him. Cut to him alone in his room, thinking back about the shocking news. Aunt is in her room, looking at a wooden box. DY was still up, Lee came to his room. That's when DY said he has no desire to be king. Politics talk, sorry not understanding much of who is mentioned etc. But DY raised his voice a bit to emphasise he doesn't want to be king. Lee said you probably still shocked and need time. He turned and smiled slyly, then turn back to DY to suggest about being able to get Hwa In if he takes the throne. DY was upset and took his sword to put on Lee's neck, but Lee just smiled and left. He turned his table over. Suddenly it's morning. Some editing error here, like in ep.17 as well. Aunt came in and more talks. DY understood his relationship with SK and why all this time Aunt is opposed about him and SK. They're arguing more intensely. Somehow I get the impression DY is still insisting to be able to keep SK as his person (not necessarily as a wife) and protect her, be with her till death. Aunt slapped him, and in the intense argument, she almost slipped another secret, but stopped herself. DY asked is there anymore secret that's kept from him. Aunt made an excuse and then she went to see Lee. Lee said he is not manipulating DY, only telling the truth. As in preview, they're arguing again where Aunt is threatening Lee to reveal his last secret. 

 

DY is in his room looking at the paintings of him and SK. He cried, the sad OST is not helping at all not to feel pitiful for him. Cut to him burning those paintings outside.

I also think this drama is sending good message to its viewers. It's about life is important. When YJD received the letter from her family, she kept crying. She said she thought they already died, and CB saying life is resilient. 

 

It's also reminded me when Ba Woo said to Soo Kyung after her attempted suicide, that everyone also just to try to live without any reason, including him.

DY and BW had a very long chat. If I am not mistaken, DY is giving up on SK and hoping for her to find happiness with BW??

I am laughing , ever since the kiss, CB is such a happy man . LOL! 

Lots of DY scenes tonight. He is talking to Lee again. Man, I need more of the OTP .

In the palace, BW and DY crossed path. BW initially wanted to just go past DY but he stopped him. What's the matter, BW asked. DY asked him to go speak somewhere. BW then asked how, what's with the face, did you fail in your mission? DY replied yeah, I failed. BW sat down by the rock, some more talk. DY sat down also. They talked about next life stuff like that, and mentioned about having the right father. BW noticed something when DY mentioned that. BW said if something went wrong with King, DY won't be able to see SK anymore. DY said as long as she is living happy, he is fine with that. BW asked what's wrong with DY, did something happen? He notice something is not right with DY. My stream froze a bit. They parted, but BW thought for a bit while looking at DY leaving.

At home, CB is appreciating the flower. BW came and talked to him. He told him to put more effort with Jo. CB happily telling him that he did it already, not realising SK and Jo coming at the back. SK asked what and who? Jo embarrassed and ran away. CB ran after her. BW just looked up pretending not knowing what happened while SK looking confused.

 

DY asked to enter Lee's room. Lee got up from the head of his table to let DY sit there. He walked over and sat there. Lee asked if he's thought about it. DY seemed to have agreed, and Lee was happy praising him. Then DY noted out loud that indeed, father has never treated his as son. No wonder he's always been treated differently by his mother with the other two brothers. You're only using and using me. His voice kept raising and he ended with Am I wrong? Then he got up and left. 

 

KJJ and BW in audience with King, who is a bit drunk already and throwing temper. KJJ asked for pardon. King came forward to BW and raised his voice. Then he demanded more wine. KJJ and BW left. While outside, KJJ told BW some things.

 

At home, SK is hanging the laundry and sister came to tell her Mother looking for her. Inside, Mother is gingerly asking about the relationship of SK and BW. She is a bit worried about something, SK assured her not to worry. She is glad and hope they will really be a husband and wife, then she also asked no problem to have Cha Dol's dongsaeng, right?... LOL... I forgive you Mother for all the nasty thing you did before to SK.

LOL did I hear it right that the mother in law is wondering about CD having a sibling? Before that the old lady was asking her all sorts of strange questions. Something about the what the King thinks too. 

 

Yay we have arrived at the most important scene where she asked him to sleep with her & he was all shy. So sweet , he says he is not avoiding her but wants to protect her. Ask her to wait . 

OMMOOOOOO...he prepared something for her in the garden....a bowl of wine . He is proposing (& I think this the mini wedding  ), dang they are crying and so am I. Why are you crying , BW asked...you regret? She says no...something about never will she in her whole life. He gave her a ring and a wreath for her hair. Yup a sweet wedding ceremony where they bow to each other...they hug ( ehhhh where is my kiss???) All they show is their shoes outside the room and the MIL saw it and was so happy.  She must be happy they have consummated the marriage.

The pre-release clip. Then BW came back and asked SK to come out. He led her to the moonlight lit backyard under a red tree. There's a bowl of water there. SK asked what this is. BW said something, sorry I don't understand, but it made SK smiled and teared up. BW asked what happened? Did I make a mistake? SK said no. Then it's the one in the preview, that she wants live with him. BW took her hand and slipped the ring onto her finger. It's official people!! I pronounce them husband and wife, hahaaaa... BW took the flowery crown and put it on SK's head. They took their bows. O gosh, I'm grinning from ear to ear!!! On cloud nine!!! The OST so nice also... one of my fave, I think no.5. They then hugged. Cut to mother coming out and saw their shoes outside SK's room. She is so excited!! I love her. Then cut to morning. Urgh, I knew they're going to pull this trick on us.... arrrrghh!!!!! Mother came out of her room just as BW walking past. She tried to pry for some information but got nothing from clueless BW.

Gosh , this is not looking good , the King agreed to something that Lee wanted - the King seems so defeated because Lee has a lot of support from the Northern faction . The King also keeps getting flasbacks of his father dying ( he was the one who killed the old man) and it does seem like Lee is using that against him.

 

Lee came with his guards to catch BW and his family , but I think that BW managed to find out in advance. This scene seems strange as I am sure it was BW's house they came to .  And now he is telling them they (mum & sis ) need to take CD away from this place first. But damn , he & SK are staying back. The mum & sis didn't want but for CD's sake they had to.

BW and CB in the city. They spotted the royal chef, I think. A run and chase happened. The chef entered a compound and BW and CB followed, until inside the building. Suddenly, it's Lee and a group of ministers there, all standing. Lee asked what's the matter? WY pulled out his sword. CB and BW stunned, then CB half pulling BW to leave. That guy was hiding behind the men. More talk among the men. Outside, BW told CB to go home first, he wants to go to the palace. 

 

At the palace, King is being manicured by Kim, someone announced the arrival of Lee. He came in but there are 3 other ministers with another guy at the back. King asked who is that at the back. Lee asked the person to come forward. It's that guy, the royal chef. King doesn't seem to recognise the trembling man, but Kim whispered to him who that man is. King then sent the rest out leaving Lee alone to talk. Some politics talk. King mentioned about Hwa In, and the place for the widow. Lee is keeping his sly calm look, while King is losing it mentally and emotionally. He truly is weak in this area. 

 

Outside, WY was escorting the royal chef. When they reached where King's personal guard was standing. WY drew his sword and killed the royal chef in front of personal guard, as witness. Cut to Lee with the ministers at his home. WY came and updated that it's done. Cut to personal guard reporting to King that the matter is taken care of. King ordered something to the personal guard and he and Kim stunned. Cut to Lee bringing a troupe of soldiers to BW's residence. They ordered search. But BW is already elsewhere thanks to King's guard who warned him. He said it's not for his sake, but for princess sake. He went back to the palace where Kim is waiting for him, asking him how is princess? He didn't really want to report anything but Kim convinced him that it's King's order? Cut to gisaeng house. BW is hiding everyone there. He came into the room where everyone's waiting with worried look. He updated them about the danger. They want to go together with him, including Cha Dol voicing out, but SK assured Cha Dol that it's for his safety. Then everyone agreed. Cut to BW SK seeing off the mother sister and Cha Dol. They went back inside where CB and Jo waiting. It's back to the foursome again. Jo asked where should they go then. SK suggested going to West Palace? where the queen dowager, aunt of BW is being exiled. BW and CB went to survey but doesn't seem to be easy. CB went back to update SK and Jo, while BW is elsewhere with DY. DY asked where will they go. BW told him. Evening time, the foursome dressed in black, with ladder. They tried to climb over the wall. Aiyoo, so slow... hurry up.... BW on top helping them. Jo is over, SK next, BW holding her hand, while CB still below, but guards came and took hold of SK. One even tried to stab BW but he held the spear with his other hand, while SK is still being pulled down. End of episode.... 

 

The ending was too intense that I didn't pay attention to preview.

They somehow managed to stay alive and she makes it back to  the palace as a maid serving her mother...but Court Lady Kim is selling her out (or is it the King as her mother was distraught at his decision)  ...urghhhhh

SK: No. 

BW: I didn't realise the time is late. I will go back to the room and sleep (with Cha Dol).

SK: Just sleep here tonight. I will prepare the beddings, just sleep here tonight.

BW: Wait. But..

SK: Do you dislike me? That you insist on going back to sleep every night?

BW: Ridiculous. How could I dislike you? It's just that...

SK: Or else, my father has given you an order (against it)?

BW: No, there's no such thing.

SK: Then why are you like this? Even mother is worried whether there are problems between us. If it's not because you dislike me, why do you keep avoiding me?

BW: I'm not avoiding you. I'm doing this to protect you. Please wait here a moment.

 

 

The wedding scene 

 

SK: This is...

(Next morning, BW's mother sees both of their shoes outside the Princess' room indicating that they had spent the night together.)

 

 

I'm not up to speed on this drama yet, but it seems that BW and the Princess have been married together by royal decree. However, BW still doesn't feel married and so has been protecting the Princess' virtue by not sleeping with her. And, thus, this makeshift private wedding ceremony before he can truly take his place as her husband. It's sweet.

Btw, I'm really behind on watching this drama. I'm on episode 8 right now, but may I just say that I'm finding DY rather exasperating? I feel for the guy. By the king's orders, the princess he's in love with was married to his older brother instead, which puts her forever out of his reach. Now she's a widow, but still out of his reach.

 

He's dedicating himself to protecting her, but he doesn't actually have any power to protect her, so that every time he insists she's alive and goes looking for her, he's actually endangering her further as a pawn between his father and her father. I realize that there would be less drama without his character, but he's definitely not the smartest bulb in the universe.

 

Also, Cha Dol is just adorable, with his infallible logic.  In answer to the query of why CD was only asking after the princess' welfare: "The princess is worried about you, dad, so I have to worry about the princess." ROFL

 

Given the scene I translated above, I take it that BW reclaims his rightful heritage somewhat and is even married to the princess, so I'm looking forward to see how that unfolds.

Hahhahaha. Couldn’t help but laugh. Yes. DY annoys me to bits. Not the dimmest bulb but certainly not the brightest for sure. He’s so self-absorbed, I cannot see how anyone would be on his side in the love story. I mean, even the princess dumped him. Blatantly. By cutting off her jeogori ribbon! In Chinese we would say, die also don’t give up. 

 

And yes. Chadol is my favourite Jiminy Cricket.
