Synopsis: 

“The Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi” (literal title) is a historical comedy investigation drama about a young gourmet who ends up becoming a secret royal inspector (a undercover official who inspects local provinces to expose corruption) teaming up with a divorced woman who is searching for happiness. Together, they set out on a grand scheme to uncover the truth.

 

Taecyeon will be playing the secret royal inspector Ra Yi Eon who wishes for nothing more than to open a small dumpling store outside the capital where the land is cheap. But he has a good brain that gets him through the state examination and even secures him a spot as an official in the Office of Special Advisors—a position normally reserved for only the most elite. Ultimately, he finds himself receiving secret orders to carry out missions as a secret royal inspector. Even though he unintentionally ended up following a career path that others would die for, Ra Yi Yeon’s real concerns are securing lunch time during work and getting off work right on time. When he gets home from work, he cooks dumplings for himself and lazily rolls around his room. However, the life of the lazy homebody changes when he meets Kim Jo Yi.

 

Kim Hye Yoon takes on the role of Kim Jo Yi, a unconventional woman of the Joseon era who thinks that getting divorced isn’t a big deal. Three years ago, she got married with a gambling addict and mama’s boy, and needless to say, she led a rocky married life. She finally divorces the man after several complications, only to be met with another obstacle: the appearance of a secret royal inspector. The moment it seemed like her dream to begin a new life was crushed, her life was actually starting anew.

 

Together, the unmotivated secret royal inspector Ra Yi Yeon and the reckless divorced woman Kim Jo Yi will embark on a journey to investigate and defeat corrupt politicians. The fact that the drama features a divorced female character who dismisses the Joseon era idea that a wife must serve her husband draws attention for its novelty.

2PM‘s Taecyeon is currently in discussions to join tvN‘s new fantasy-historical drama Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi.

 

 

According to an exclusive report from Xportnews, Taecyeon is currently in discussions to accept the male lead role in tvN’s new fantasy-historical drama Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi. If he confirms his role, he will join Jung So Min as the lead roles.

 

 

Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi is a fantasy historical drama where secret inspectors will go undercover in an attempt to expose corruption within the kingdom. The drama will also tell the story of a lazy secret inspector and a fierce yet strange woman who join hands to try and dig up the truth.

 

The drama will be led by PD Yoo Jong Seon, who has worked on Descendants of the Sun, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim, and Designated Survivor: 60 Days, and writer Lee Jae Yoon, who wrote for the movie Girl Cops.

 

Earlier in the year, it was reported that Jo Byung Gyu would be taking on the lead role in the drama. However, due to his alleged school violence scandal, his appearance is uncertain, and the drama is working to make sure they have a contingency plan for their lead role.

Following alleged bullying accusations made against actor Jo Byung Gyu, a decision was made to replace him in their upcoming drama. The drama, Tale Of The Secret Royal Inspector And Jo Yi (working title) had previously cast Jo Byung Gyu in the lead role.

 

On March 19, 2020, it was announced that ultimately he had been dropped from the cast. The decision was reported to have been made by the actor’s management rather than tvN. On the other hand, tvN is currently in talks with Ok Taecyeon to replace Jo Byung Gyu in the role.

 

 

Tale Of The Secret Royal Inspector And Jo Yi is about secret royal inspectors who go undercover to expose corruption within the monarchy. Jo Byeong Gyu was previously offered the leading role of Ra Yi Eon, who is said to be extremely smart, placing first in the state exams. He joins the royal inspectors as the youngest member. However, he does not have any plans for the future or strong goals.

On March 19, Taecyeon’s agency 51K confirmed reports that he was in talks to star in the upcoming drama “Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi” (literal translation).

 

A representative of the agency stated, “It’s true that Ok Taecyeon has received a casting offer for ‘Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi.’ It’s one of multiple projects for which he is currently in talks.” They went on to clarify, “Nothing has yet been decided.”

 

Earlier this year, Jo Byeong Gyu was confirmed to have received an offer to star in the drama, though it is unclear whether he is still in talks for the project. Meanwhile, Jung So Min is currently in talks to play the female lead.

Kim Hye-yoon who was proposed the role of Kim Jo-yi, is a waking new woman in the 17th century Confucian holy land of Joseon, and a realist who doesn't think getting divorced is a big deal.

 

"Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi" is an investigative drama about an active investigator who investigates corrupt officials who are lazy and tired of their career, a nosy lady who is full of desire and passion as well as nameless women who investigate corrupt officials. It is directed by Yoo Jong-seon and written by Lee Jae-yoon-IV. Cho Byeong-kyu was initially brought up for the role of Ryan but fell through and the role was given to Ok Taecyeon.

On April 1, media outlets reported that Kim Hye Yoon was offered to play the female lead role for "Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi." 2PM's Ok Taecyeon is in talks to be the male lead of the drama.

 

Kim Hye Yoon received the offer to play the role of Kim Jo Yi, which was also offered to actress Jung So Min.

 

Director Yoo Jong Sun ("Designated Survivor: 60 Days" PD) and scriptwriter Lee Jae Yoon ("The Undateables" writer) will be the ones responsible for the production of "Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi." The drama will narrate the story of undercover royal inspectors who are tasked to expose the wrongdoings of officials.

 

Kim Hye Yoon made her name known in the industry with her spectacular acting in the hit 2018 JTBC drama "Sky Castle". Her follow up project "Extraordinary You" with SF9's Ro Woon and Lee Jae Wook was also well received by the public. The actress is currently filming for the upcoming highly talked about drama "Snowdrop" starring Jung Hae In and BLACKPINK's Kim Ji Soo. If she confirms her casting for "Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi", this will be her second drama for 2021. She is also set to appear in the upcoming movie "Midnight" with Jin Ki Joo and Wi Ha Joon.

 

"Tale of the Secret Royal Inspector and Jo Yi" will begin filming after they have finalized the whole casting. The drama expects to begin airing in the second half of the year.
