Synopsis

Ten years ago, Li Xiang Yi, the master of SiGu Sect, shocked the world. During a battle with the leader of a demon sect, he was schemed by his trusted subordinates. He fell into the water and disappeared. Li Xiang Yi barely survived but was rescued by an old man. Li Xiang Yi lost all his martial arts abilities. He changed his name to Li Lian Hua and chose to live a normal life. Li Lian Hua likes all kind of plants and because of this, everyone mistaken him for a "great doctor" who could bring back the dead. Whenever there is a murder case, someone would ask him to help. 

 

Li Lian Hua meets a young noble master named Fang Duo Bing. Together, the two of them solve many Jiang Hu mysteries. 

 

**Li Lian Hua cannot afford a house so he used scraps to build a moving building called Lian Hua Lou. He doesn't pay more than 50 taels for this because he is poor. Due to the battle, Li Lian Hua is slowly losing his eyesight, his senses are bad, and his hands are crippled. (Credit)

@40somethingahjumma will you try this out? I watched three episodes and it's not that bad. Cheng Yi's character reminds me a bit of Li Hongyi's character in The Blood of Youth -- they were both powerful martial artists, but due to poison/injuries, they lost their power.

It seems this trope ( poison / lost of powere) is being used so often in chinese drama. Is the acting any good. I just love seeing CHeng Yi act but the other male actors I am not moved by them at all. @Tofu

@UnniSara I like Joseph! There isn't so much scenes of the villain yet, but I'm only on episode three. Maybe he'll show up later. It's been a few months since I've watched a wuxia so I'm hoping this continues to be good.

Hi @Tofu Yes, I saw it being mentioned somewhere on the web... can't remember exactly where... but became instantly interested after I saw that Cheng Yi and Joseph Zeng were headlining it. I haven't watched any wuxia for a while so I may take a look eventuallyl. Ugh... all these 40-episode C dramas. It's killing me. I've got to finish Fireworks of My Heart first and then 3 more K dramas. Not to mention all the new ones coming out on the weekend.

I'm all up to date. The show does get better with each case. I do like Cheng Yi in this and his character here is pretty much a scheming Sherlock Holmes not that different to the role he played in Stand By Me. The first couple of cases are okay although Fang Duobing (Joseph Zeng) can get a bit much with all his bluster and jumping to conclusions. He's no idiot and what he lacks is experience but thankfully their dynamic gets better especially when Di Fengshen enters the picture. Then he finds someone else to bicker with which goes from annoying to actually hilarious because of the irony of not knowing that he's keeping company with two of wulin's biggest names.

 

The tomb robbers arc is probably the best. It has multiple layers of complexity and is tied to stuff that happened 10 years earlier.

I'm about to start episode 6 tonight after getting off work. Is that the tomb robbers arc? 

 

I really like the dynamic between LXY/LLH and FDB. They both balance each other really well. While this drama does remind me a bit of The Blood of Youth, I do like that CY's character (LXY/LLH) is a bit more talkative and expressive than LHY's character. Poor FDB though, he's always getting left behind. I've read good things about DFS joining them so I can't wait to see that too. 

 

I don't know about everyone, but I think it's kind of funny that LXY/LLH is not openly hiding himself, yet no one is able to sense that he's around (or that someone is around listening to their conversations).

Fang Duobing loves to jump to conclucsion. I admit I found him so annoying at the beginning because of all his assumption with no evidence.  As the drama progresses, there would be little hints here and there of his ( Fang Duobing) as they solve a case. He really does need the experience and he also needs to slow down so he can follow the clues.  

Di Fenghshen has entered the picture and I am loving it so much. His interaction with FDB is hilarious and so adorable. I plan on making GIFS of them. LLH is the one who is the rational while DFS and FDB are the hot head of this group.

I can't help but find DFS isnt really an evil character at all, he just has his own view of the world and may actually admire LXY/LLH but he doesn't know it. His wanting to fight him isn't malicious at all but more along the line of wanting to be the stronges in the Martial World.
