Tofu Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 I really like SHS, but body swapping dramas are not something I enjoy. Maybe I'll wait for a couple more episodes to be released before I take a look. It does look really funny and I bet SHS had a fun time acting out her character. 2 2

abs-oluteM Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Domestic viewers love it - great reception Article translated with Papago from here: https://www.tvreport.co.kr/2055804 Queen Cheol-in announced the birth of a legendary fusion historical drama comedy. The highest viewer rating has soared to 11.0 percent since the first broadcast, proving its true value. On the 12th, tvN's Saturday-Sunday drama "Queen Chul-in" (directed by Yoon Sung-sik, scripted by Park Gye-ok and Choi A-il, produced by STUDIO PLEX, and Craveworks) was first aired amid enthusiastic reviews. Beyond the times and sex, the extraordinary period of survival of the palace, a troubled soul that made an emergency landing on the body of the Joseon Dynasty, gave a beautiful smile from the start. The comic synergy between Shin Hye-sun and Kim Jung-hyun, who perfectly completed the "That World" character, was overwhelming. The sensuous production of pleasant laughter and tension, witty lines and dynamic development, combined with the actors' passionate performances, performed the beauty of fusion historical comedy.Viewers' reactions are also explosive. The ratings for the first episode averaged 8.7 percent and up to 11.0 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area, ranking first in all channels, including terrestrial channels. The national standard also topped the list in the same time slot, including cable and cable channels, with an average of 8.0 percent and a maximum of 9.9 percent. This is the second-highest rating on tvN's first Saturday-Sunday drama following "Mr. Sunshine." In the 2049 viewer rating for men and women, which is the target of tvN, the highest average of 4.2 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area, 4.0 percent in the nationwide scale, and 4.9 percent in the same time slot on all channels, including terrestrial channels. (Based on paid platform incorporating cable, IPTV and satellite / Provided by Nielsen Korea)The show began with a strange day for Chef Jang Bong-hwan (played by Choi Jin-hyuk). Jang Bong-hwan, who was as full of bravado as his outstanding ability, was the object of everyone's envy. Jang, who had been on a roll, faced a once-in-a-lifetime crisis. He was caught in someone's trap and was not enough to be fired, and was even investigated for alleged irregularities in food materials. Jang Bong-hwan, who was desperately running away from the detectives, unexpectedly fell into the pool. A strange scene unfolded before Jang Bong-hwan's eyes, struggling to live in the water. Jang Bong-hwan woke up after being kissed by a mysterious woman swimming toward him. But he was shocked by the reality that unfolded before his eyes. It was because the soul was trapped in the body of Kim So-yong (played by Shin Hye-sun), who was chosen as a queen during the Joseon Dynasty. Feeling somewhat empty, he cried out in a sense of loss, and his desperate struggle to return to modern times caused laughter. After falling into a lake, he was unconscious and opened his eyes, and the palace was turned upside down by the medieval tension of the world. Jang Bong-hwan's view of Kim So-yong with his soul has also changed. The same goes for Cheoljong (played by Kim Jung-hyun), who was never close to Kim So-yong at the center of the power struggle. Kim So-yong's changed attitude while stirring the palace with a strange behavior was used to find out his intentions. At the same time, the sight of King Cheoljong falling for nothing when his lieutenants said that the situation of the heavy war was strange made him even more curious about his secret.Meanwhile, news like a bolt from the blue came to Jang Bong-hwan, who was trapped in Kim So-yong's body. That he is the soon-to-be queen. Dazed by the news of the Hapgung that followed the ceremony, he desperately tried to persuade King Cheoljong by confessing his shock, "I'm actually a man," only to appear to be a distracted lieutenant. On the first night of the long-awaited first night, Kim So-yong, who was trying to escape somehow, decided to knock down Cheoljong with alcohol. However, Chul-jong, who was also lukewarm about the'excitement explosion' game, was not a pushover. The ending of Cheoljong's "heart attack" with Kim So-yong, who tried to faint by hitting Mokwooldae as a last resort, raised questions about his future development."Queen Cheol-in" has sparked a heated response from the start, showing the true value of a fusion historical drama comedy. Unusual situations in which the spirit of a modern man is embedded in a heavy-blooded body living under strict discipline brought a fresh laugh. The actors' fantasy Tikitaka doubled the fun and persuasive power of the "setup of the world" and led to praise. In the midst of a pleasant laugh, curious secret codes were placed everywhere, adding to the tension. Kim So-yong, who went back and forth between life and death in the lake, and King Cheoljong, the two-faced king, also have secrets. Kim So-yong, who became a soul-changer, can't remember anything. However, Jang's memory is not the image of a cold iron bell that passed through the family ceremony with a mysterious chest pain. This is why Kim So-yong fell into the lake, and Cho Hwa-jin (Seol In-ah), whose concubine secret was dropped, is also drawing keen attention. Show Window Couple Kim So-yong and Chul-jong. It makes us look forward to the survival of the palace as well as the relationship between the two.Right after the broadcast, the audience's reaction was also explosive. Viewers who watched the show said, "It's crazy from the first show," "Time flies, it wasn't set in this world," "The actors' acting is amazing! Shin Hye-sun, Kim Jung-hyun! Shin Hye -sun, who explains "I'm a man," "I burst into laughter," "Shin Hye-sun, Kim Jung-hyun, Tikitaka, Best, Legendary Couple Reservation," "Kim Jung-hyun is a clever one who gets hit by a momentary change in her eyes," "Heart racing at the ending," "My Boss's Episode on the First Night" is amazing! "Fusion comedy historical drama, which has a different dimension from the original setting," received a lot of responses. mademoiselle Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Episode 1 was fun and a no brainer. It's just watching Shin Hye Sun does all sort of stunts trying to go back to the present day, LOL. What's interesting is the King pretending to play dumb and obedient when in reality he's alert, careful and cautious. He pretends to appeal to the Dae Wang Dae Bi Mama and the Ministers, and in secret he's planning to get rid of the power that makes him a puppet (this one should be clearer in episode 2. Episode 1 hasn't shown this). I do like that he's smart and planning to rebel because it has become quite unrefreshing to keep seeing Joseon royalties being controlled by the Noron and Soron fractions in many sageuks. Since this is a fusion, fantasy sageuk, I definitely welcome changes to spice things up . The imagination is limitless. The King reading porn in broad daylight cracks me up. I mean, how is it that he can even keep a straight face? I'm looking forward to Shin Hye Sun seeing through all his tactics and facade because, well, both of them are men. So the man will understand the man. Haha. And also looking forward to them falling in love. It'll be weird but it'll be the most interesting and hilarious bit. Just not sure whether they'll indeed end it with man x man. And at the "I am Joseon's first no bra" and "marriage is equivalent to sacrificial offering/worhipping" statements, hahahahahaha. Well, I would not disagree there's so much more freedom without it 3
Chocolate Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 This looks like a fun show! Comedy + Palace Intrigue. Is Choi Jin-hyuk's soul going to stay in the Queen's body throughout? I like Kim Jung-hyun. He was half of the second lead in CLOY and they were a well-loved pair. His acting was natural, funny when required and it was heart-breaking when he died. I read that he had mental health issues in his last project before CLOY and took time off. Glad that he is back and doing well. 2 1
bluepebbles Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 @Chocolatealso interestingly there's a slight reference to SeGa with regards to body swap. I think it works fine as long as the story 's comedic theme will go along with it. Off to watch episode 1 ! 1 1 1
Chocolate Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Just finished episode 1. It was hilarious! I love watching dramas where modern men travel back to historical times and vice versa. It is very funny to watch them figure out how things work and use their knowledge to help themselves survive. 4 hours ago, mademoiselle said: And also looking forward to them falling in love. It'll be weird but it'll be the most interesting and hilarious bit. Just not sure whether they'll indeed end it with man x man. Wondering what the k-drama rules are here (managing my expectations in case it becomes another Start-Up situation lol). Is the King and Queen supposed to fall in love? Is romance supposed to be dominant in this show? It seems the King loves the Royal Concubine who seems a kind-hearted lady. Think he told a lie to save her when the Ministers tried to frame her for pushing the Queen into the lake. I suppose Jang Bong Hwan is going to be occupying the Queen's body for a substantial period of time. In that case, we can expect no romance and no sex between them LOL? Although it seems the Queen will have recollections of her female past so not sure how that is going to work out. Perhaps the King will eventually accept that SHE is a man from the future and they will work together to help him succeed in the power struggle with the Dowager? From Wikipedia, the drama is an adaptation from C-drama "Go Princess Go" where the synopsis is: A modern playboy travels back in time 1,000 years to find himself in the body of a royal princess. As a man inside a woman's body, he enjoys flirting and touching his husband's concubines with little impunity. Once having discovered his more feminine side, he truly falls in love with his husband. 👀👀👀 2 1
Chocolate Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 (edited) Kim Jung Hyun And Shin Hye Sun Have A Discreet Late-Night Meeting In “Mr. Queen” DRAMA PREVIEW | Dec 13, 2020 | by S. P “Mr. Queen” is a new historical fantasy-comedy drama about a man from modern times whose soul gets trapped in the body of a queen from the Joseon dynasty. Shin Hye Sun stars as Kim So Yong, the Joseon queen with the soul of Blue House chef Jang Bong Hwan trapped inside her. Kim Jung Hyun plays her husband King Cheoljong, who is a weak and ineffective king on the outside but is stronger and sharper than he appears. Spoilers The first episode provided viewers with plenty of laughs as it depicted the comedic situations that befell Kim So Yong as a queen with the soul of a man from modern times trapped inside of her. In addition, the episode also piqued the curiosity of viewers by dropping various hints about the secrets harbored by both Kim So Yong and King Cheoljong. Now that the pair have become husband and wife, it remains to be seen how Kim So Yong’s unique predicament will affect the palace affairs. In the new stills, Kim So Yong and King Cheoljong meet in the middle of the night. Both the king and queen eye each other with sly smiles, as if they are each trying to figure out the other’s motive. In particular, Kim So Yong seeks out the king in order to propose a “no touching” rule. King Cheoljong appears unfazed by her suggestion as he eyes her with amusement. After learning that water could be the key to her escape, Kim So Yong ended up jumping into every lake in the palace in hopes of returning to her own time. As her quest to find water continues, her next moves are set to become even more unexpected. The drama’s production team commented, “The process of Kim So Yong’s adaptation to palace life will be dynamic and unpredictable. Kim So Young and King Cheoljong will become the catalyst for even more interesting changes within the palace walls. Look forward to how the couple will throw the palace into turmoil.” Edited December 13, 2020 by Chocolate 2 1
bluepebbles Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 Done with first episode 1 also. The time slip + body swap combo elevates to a new crack of comedic antics , specially when the gap of time travelled involves hundreds of years. Queen Cheorin or I should say Bong Hwan is literally fish out of water by engaging himself to the fiasco of court politics and schemes, which during his own time is much as the same. I can only imagine how the korean native speakers are enjoying this, because Queen Cheorin is speaking in the Seoul/modern time dialect in a time where the fourth (?) level of korean language is used. I was giggling to hear him speak on "royal family" while assessing his new persona as the queen. I like the comedic timing of Kim Jung Hyun, his sarcasm ticks me off layering his pretentions of being the dumb king. Bong Hwan's swapping with Queen Cheorin will just take a matter of time for him to adjust, given the mechanical premise that his parents are both history related in their profession. I am not initially interested with the history of King Cheoljong however this is a new uptake to sageuk (even on a fusion ) because I only know of his predecessors like Sukjong, Sejo, Sejong etc. 2 1
bluepebbles Posted December 13, 2020 Author Posted December 13, 2020 HAHA this makes sense. Cheorin is still Bong Hwan Spoiler 3
