Not exactly Oppa related, but there's no unnie thread so...I ended up seeing Kim Sejeong again at TRX Mall today  Not very close, but better than nothing (there's a video that is closer, but having trouble linking on my phone :idk:)

So far Kim Sejeong I have seen twice...every other kdrama star = 0 times :heiboi:

Romance is her forte so I think she's OK, and I've enough trust in her to deliver well in this department that I will watch her dramas. That said, I don't think she has had some outstanding performances that made strong impression in this drama or in the previous two. The actress playing Su Min at times became the scene stealer in here due to the villain role she played. But acting wise, I'd say still stronger than some actresses who got famous around the same time as her. Why? What about you?

Reply you here, in case there are any diehard PMY fans there lol. There were some comments on X on how the villian couple were more interesting than the OTP, and a quarrel began 😅

I don't like her. I find her acting artificial. Even when her eyes are pooling with unshed tears, it feels like someone put eyedrops there 😂 So I can't marshal any emotion for the character - there is no pity for her sad state in her 1st life, no elation at her success, and I fast forward all the romance scenes with Na In Woo. It's just blah.

In fact, I think I would enjoy the drama more if the FL was someone else.

@SilverMoonTea Are you still watching MMH?

Think Jen just went to the mall where she is, so don't have to pay. Unless you count time as money, too

Haha time is money! But to brave the crowds at shopping malls when there is a celebrity... I'm not even sure I would go if Hyun Bin came lol. Maybe if both Binjin came.

Lotsa lurkers in this thread, too. What makes you think you're safe here? But I can't believe you set me up in that thread, and decided to hide yours here!  Is there any actresses you are very impressed with in K-entertainment?

Spoiler

PMY has just as many stans as PSH and they defend their biases fiercely. PMY vs PSH - which one do you prefer for performance?

Na In Woo in MMH also has been disappointing. I mean, he looks great, but that's it. I honestly was hoping to get more out of him in this one, if you know what I mean. That said, with actresses, I don't think I can even name one female lead actresses where I'm very impressed with, in a constant manner. I could name older (veteran) like Ra Mi Ran and Kim Mi Kyung being impressive, but others I'm so-so, even Kim Hye Soo sometimes I am not that impressed. Kim Nam Joo was really good in Misty, but that's just one drama. So I'm checking out her upcoming drama to see if I feel the same still. Again, she's an older and seasoned actress, not those in their 20s or 30s. I don't know I'm too tough on the ladies, or the Oppa are just much stronger in acting (and they have better scripts or something). :idk: I discussed this with Tea before.

I'm like you guys actually. Eon years ago there was news LMH will go to another city for CF. I could fly there and wait at the airport, but then I thought why the heck would I drive 1 hour to my airport, fly over there JUST TO SEE HIM FOR FEW MINUTES? Plus, I don't even know when he'll arrive, so I'd have to wait at the airport. No thanks. But, another online friend I know went to LAX (from California) to see him. It was so chaotic that she was pushed closer to him too, so I guess that was worth it? (And we've got pictures/videos of her beside him...hahaha!) The dedication between us was just different. Hahaha! If I can't convince myself it is worth it, I just can't cross that line for Oppa. I often think why can't one of those, I went somewhere and they just happened to be there - that kind of scenario?

In Singapore, I learned that before you ask anything about going somewhere, you ask how long the queue is. People will decide to go somewhere based on that. Where I live, we ask about parking. If there's no parking, it doesn't even make it to my list of places to go. I don't have the patience for things like this anymore. LOL!!

@Chocolate definitely set you up, @mademoiselle. Haha! I saw the PMY question and I avoided responding. I'm actually behind (haven't watched the episodes this week), but I do share the same sentiment.

True. That's totally me, that's why I avoid going to the city or places where it's difficult to find parking. I'd always park inside a mall in the city because that's the best I know with an undercover carpark and I don't have to stress about other public parking lot, as they all charge differently too.

@mademoiselle Where I live, we only pay to park on the street if it's in the downtown area or in an area with lots of traffic. Typically, if it's a restaurant outside the radius of what they consider "downtown", there's no charge to park. It's just that you have to find a parking and sometimes it may be a few miles/km away from the restaurant.

39 minutes ago, mademoiselle said:

Hahaha! You can just leave it. I don't think many people visit JH enough and most that do share similar feelings.

@Tofu Anything near the city has fees, unless it's weekend then it can be free for few hours. The areas outside city but close to downtown are also similar - we called them zone 1. You could probably have a couple hours of free parking on the side street but when the traffic is busy, parallel parking becomes challenging. Zone 1 traffic includes cars and trams. Stressful.

I started to struggle to continue 😅 You know me so well? I like them more before their glowing up session? They're nicer to see with glasses haha. I found her new fashion style a bit over the top and like trying too hard 😆

I think what you said about PMY acting also true. Like you said somehow it's not so satisfying to see her revenge came true. The chemistry is quite nice, but I also not super into them, and now they become kinda lovey dovey my illness started to appear? I think I just dislike a stable love 😂, how to be cured?

Nowadays I'm so into dating show, tag @JenLI'm watching Heart Signal 3 now. It was so fun, I slept too late and now zombying my way into work 🥹. The participants all so pretty and well dressed, the house they stayed in is so nice too. And its relaxing to see they just cooking or chatting. The romance had a lot of one sided love going on, and they keep getting confused and changing their love interests, I think that's why it's so fun 😂

YSY is in the panelist and he's so chatty, like ahjumma gossiping about their niece or nephew love life hahaha... The panelist group are just so passionate and they will argue and being competitive at guessing the correct love line 😅

But Tea and Choco are also the ones who are not willing to pay to see these celebrities 😂

Yes even it's free, the timing often odd and the announcement always late. Heard Xiao Zhan was in MBS but his hairstyle not that great when he came here, the queue also seems quite crazy. I don't even like to queue for food, why I should for oppa ? 🤣 Having said that, our country have a thing for queuing. Remember that long line to get Omega x Swatch watch in MBS ? Or Hello Kitty Mc D ? It's just become singaporean hobby somehow.

Probably if Cheng Yi drop here, I might gather my energy to go there to see him. If too expensive I might back off too 😂

@ssteph@abs-oluteM IU and PBG will make a good visual pairing, but @mademoiselle its hard to ship them cos I'll be thinking about LJS 😂 Sometimes I just wish Dispatch just keep all this news for themself, so I can shipping and deluluing at my own leasure 😅

I'm also looking forward for So Min × Hae In drama. The Jung Jung couple might look cute together.

I'm not feeling for anything IU and PBG (yet). I think he's also in talks to star against Kim So Hyun. A pairing I did want to see eons ago, when I still like him. Now I don't have feelings for him, so anything about him at the moment is zero interest. 😅

So Min x Hae In - I will watch too although I would love a reunion with Soo Bin x Hae In. Ji Soo took out too much time from that drama and left too little for Soo Bin and Hae In. Hmph.

For MMH, they were only lovey-dovey in one episode. Next episode (12), his ex-fiancee appears and started wreaking havoc. So drama returns.

Hahaha! I don't think you should watch Wu Lei's drama then. That romance is too stable for you.

@mademoiselle Park Bo Gum and Kim So Hyun confirmed their drama.

https://www.soompi.com/article/1636645wpp/park-bo-gum-and-kim-so-hyun-confirmed-for-new-comedy-action-drama

I think Park Bo Gum is currently in a play, because I've seen him post pictures of him that looks like he's dressed to perform on stage. Do you think Park Bo Gum has that "it" factor in him still? I feel like since he's be out of the drama scene for so long, there's been lots of rising actors in that time that I don't care much for him anymore. :idk:

@Tofu He doesn't have the "it" factor for me anymore. For others, maybe, because they are more devoted than us. Ahahaha! I like to think he may not be as famous as he used to be in SK. Coz I mean, he was soooo popular and loved back then, but he's disappeared for so long and surely the love has gone to someone else...?

@SilverMoonTea Ah yes, the ship on the building. Everyone should know about that. I just don't know the abbreviation LOL. By the way, are there beach over there? Why "sands"?

PBG's role in Hello Monster was one of my favourites. Technically, I only liked him in Hello Monster and Reply 88. I did find him cute & liked him more in there than Joo Won in Naeil's Cantabile. BTW, did you guys watch this one and also Nodame Cantabile? Wasn't Joo Won disappointing as Chiaki senpai, same for the FL playing Naeil? 😥 The whole drama was a disappointment vs J-version.

What do you think if you watch this MV?IU & LJS? 😅

(I guess if IU didn't go public with LJS, netizens would be out of control to ship her with V. There are behind the scenes vids too.)

Seems like Hae In will have new shippers 😂 I see fans start making collage and video edit of him and So Min.

I feel relieved, his next female lead is an actress and she is So Min, an actress I'm familiar with.

Oh, it's actually not a ship. When the first design was released, the feng shui experts said it looked like ancestral tablets, coffin pallbearers so they changed the design a bit. That "ship" used to be rounded on both sides - now one side is straight line.

Hahaha @mademoiselle is correct @Chocolate - no money was spent this time! I just went to the mall since my aunty was planning to go there anyway to show us TRX which is apparently the newest of all the malls:idk:

Surprisingly, there was not too big a crowd (lots of people, but less than I thought) and I was luckily standing on the right side of the stage (closest to the exit she came in and out of). I feel sorry for the people who waited on the other side coz pretty sure they saw nothing. The people who got the best photos apparently waited 5 hours

I had already saw her concert last year, also I'm not that big a fan to wait several hours. I only waited 1 hour, so not too bad an experience overall:popcorn:

Hahaha I was wondering if MMH was worth watching, but it sounds like another big drama that wasn't worth it according to you seasoned drama watchers, so glad I didn't pick it up. Do all of you watch every Kdrama? What makes you decide if something is worth watching?

I use to watch all the dramas with the big league actors like PMY. But the older I get, the more I can only watch dramas if the story looks good and I like both actors and the pairing looks like it'd work well. Maybe one day I'll watch it if extremely bored :idk:

Question: would you see Rowoon at a paid (or unpaid) thing if he was coming to our city??

I only go to the celebrity things I have definite times for - have never waited at the airport for example because that sounds tricky (long wait for a few seconds, unsure of when they come out, these days most wear masks or caps). But if they're going to be at a shopping mall or fashion event where they'll be there at least an hour and it's not too hard to get to, sure, count me in :BulbaOWO:

@JenL always have the best description about myself and always very accurate one 🤔 So I'm all or nothing type of person 😂 This year is really slow on drama watching for me. I felt like I already watched too many and not easily get entertained anymore.

@Chocolate I never knew about MBS fengshui stuff. I don't really like to go to the shopping mall though because it's so big. I prefer small and neat mall, I'm tired of walking 😅

@mademoiselle I'm not really into the Cantabile Jdrama itself so I didn't try the K version.

@ssteph Haha maybe the shipper area can be revived with jung x jung couple.

@Tofu I'm not into Wulei to start with and this is the biggest problem haha... But yeah I always change my mind. So maybe who knows one day he will become oppa.

It's always fun to catch up with JH people 😍 It make my day after long and draggy work.

I figured you might name Kim Taeri. If you had seen Suzy's older projects, you might understand why there are many criticisms. She's improved over the years. Mainly because she's an idol. People tend to be extra critical towards idols. If you are curious, you can try a few episodes of Dream High. It's on NF. 😁 Dream High has Kim Soo Hyun, Taecyeon, IU – they are all now big stars now.

Yes! I was wondering is she that rich to afford all these clothes! The makeover is too extreme.

I find this always a problem with PPLs in Kdramas. When I first picked up Kdrama around 20 years ago, funny it's PMY's drama again... hahaha. Anyway, I was watching City Hunter, and she's supposed to be poor. And I remember questioning how someone so poor could afford an iPhone.

Oh, it's actually not a ship.

It's not?! I always thought it's made to look like a ship being supported by three buildings  Bahahaha!

LOL, I'd say MMH is still an OK watch thus far. It's tropey, but at least it has a story line. Anything is better than KTL or Sisyphus :lmao2:

We don't watch every Kdramas. During the early kdrama watching years, and I didn't know as many actors, I had tried out to watch all the new new one (except daillies) because I didn't want to miss out any good ones. Back then it's easier too, only SBS, KBS, MBC, tvN, JTBC and OCN. There are so many more platforms now. How to keep up? Also now the reason to watch a drama varies:

(1) Oppa is the main motivation.

(2) If no Oppa, then it means the plot needs to be interesting / looks good in previews

(3) Who directs or writes the drama

(4) Once in awhile, I also think it's good to pick something you totally don't think you have interest in or know anybody. That's how I stumbled upon Hot Stove League, Prison Playbook and My Mister.

(5) Now I know more actors, I'd check out their works if they have promising filmography e.g. Kim Hye Soo.

(6) Sometimes my interest is pique through clips and posts on my TL.

P.S. I've also learnt from @Tofu and @SilverMoonTea to "let go" of the bad ones, LOL!

Question: would you see Rowoon at a paid (or unpaid) thing if he was coming to our city??

When he comes, then I'll let you know. I think it depends on the circumstances. Like you said, if I've to wait hours only to see him in minutes, no thanks. I do wish there is a day where he and Jae Wook would come together. You and I can go fangirl together . Do you have real life friend(s) who likes Jae Wook here?

Parking sounds like the worst! I don't own a car and my life feels all the better for it. I do drive a few times a month, but luckily it's to friend's houses so no troubles for parking.

Do you commute to work by public transport? The PT here takes too long between intervals, so I'd rather drive + park + pay.

@ssteph@abs-oluteM IU and PBG will make a good visual pairing,

I am not a PBG fan. Nothing against him but his pretty-ness does nothing for me. I think he's too pretty , and not quite my type. But then again , I don't even know if I have a type. On the other hand, I am quite intrigued with the pairing of Jung Hae In and JSM.

Yeah, I think they must announce fan meets rather late to reduce massive crowds. I actually didn't know Kim Sejeong was coming until my other aunt mentioned that David Beckham was coming to TRX mall over the same weekend (I did not go to that, but ended up seeing the linked article that KSJ would be there on the day I was going.) :idk:

As for queuing, I remember lining up in Singapore for some Hawker stall that did a Challenge with Gordon Ramsey. It was really good, but so hot standing outside....can see why you would hate it :psweatduck: I think Singaporeans are like me = gets fomo, so must suffer the queues to get rid of the feeling

@SilverMoonTea What is MBS? It's so hot in SG and queueing outside...? Eugh. NO!

Hmph.

Do you think Park Bo Gum has that "it" factor in him still? I feel like since he's be out of the drama scene for so long, there's been lots of rising actors in that time that I don't care much for him anymore. :idk:

I've never understood the PBG fandom, but then again I've never fully made it through one of his dramas I think. Not even Reply 88 :idk:

@mademoiselle wouldn't mind a Chae Soo Bin and Jung Hae In second project. Totally agree - the second lead in that drama ruined it :pandarage2:

@abs-oluteM I don't know if you have a very specific type, but I feel like you have a deeper love for the more masculine oppas - in build and facial features - more so than the extremely boyish or extremely pretty boy ones :heiboi:

What do you think if you watch this MV?IU & LJS? 😅

(I guess if IU didn't go public with LJS, netizens would be out of control to ship her with V. There are behind the scenes vids)

Seems like Hae In will have new shippers 😂 I see fans start making collage and video edit of him and So Min.

I feel relieved, his next female lead is an actress and she is So Min, an actress I'm familiar with.

I thought IU's film clip was so cute and even though people know who she's with, there was still some wistful shipping going on

@ssteph haha I don't know if I would feel relief just yet. I hope the drama for Jung So Min and Jung Hae In goes smoothly with no real life dramas. So Min comes from the golden age of Kdramas (she's one of the actresses in their 30s that became big with the Hallyu wave and has a huge, and rather obsessive fandom) and her fans can be mega defensive on her behalf. When she starred opposite Lee Jae Wook in her last project, there was A LOT of mud slinging by her fans to Lee Jae Wook and her other co-stars because people had made up all these stories saying that Jung So Min wasn't being recognised in the project etc (she was contracted to star in only half the drama and another star was to do the second season.) She seems talented and nice enough, but some of her extreme fans' bad behaviours really left a bad taste because they were borderline bullying the second actress who took over from So Min and were pretty nasty to Lee Jae Wook  Anyway hoping there is no dramas for this drama!

Hahaha, that's me itching to criticise, but I learnt to be more circumspect from you gals, so I test water first hahahaha.

I'd rather watch PSH. She's normal even if not exceptional. She's just too girly for fighting scenes lol.

Kim Taeri comes to mind. She was quite good in Revenant. I haven't watched kdramas long enough to know many and seen many works from any one actress. I thought Bae Suzy was quite good in Anna - not sure why she gets criticised for being a bad actress.

Hahaha everyone has their actresses and non actresses I think. I actually don't mind either PSH or PMY. I think although they're not super strong, they do their baseline characters ok and the characters they play are not annoying on the whole. :idk:

My non actress is KGE. I didn't like her in Goblin, I could barely stand her in Little Women and I made it a point to ignore The King: Eternal Monarch. I feel like she acts the same way in each drama. And the characters she portrays are always annoying in some way. I feel like her characters always complain and do illogical things: act Headstrong when they should back down and be level headed, always get everyone in trouble but are not able to fix the problems they created etc. I feel similarly for Suzy to be honest, but I've seen less of her dramas in recent years :KittyBan:

I do really love Kim Tae Ri though. I've seen almost all her projects and I feel like she's a good actress, who picks diverse roles where the characters have layers but are not annoying!

Oh, no!!! I hope Hae In fans and So Min fans are peaceful now, when the drama is airing, and after the drama end 🙏 I had bad experience with Jisoo fans during and after Snowdrop. I really hope something like that wouldn't happen again.

Do you follow Sejeong as an actress or as a singer? Or both? I didn't know she is a lyricist until I watched her on IU's Palette show. It's my favorite episode. I like Sejeong's song Plant.
